Simplify Your Routine

We all have our routines that help us manage our day, and time is, of course, precious. That’s why Samsung developed Bixby Routines – a clever feature that allows Bixby to learn your unique routines and recommend ways to save more time.

Bixby Routines utilizes machine learning to analyze your personal patterns and preferences based on how you use your phone. It uses that insight to suggest easily configurable routines – incorporating specific native apps, settings or features – that can instantly automate multiple tasks to make your life easier.

In addition to offering nine convenient preset options, Bixby Routines presents you with up to six personalized routines – based on how you use your phone at certain times and places – that minimize the steps required to get things done. For example, when you go to bed, your Galaxy S10 may run your personal “Before Bed” routine, which may include automatically turning on Night Mode, lowering the brightness, and muting sound. It’s as simple – and convenient – as that.

Instant Insight with Bixby Vision

Featuring a built-in AI that provides better image recognition and is capable of recognizing a wide range of objects, the camera’s enhanced Bixby Vision function places all-new AR capabilities at users’ fingertips.

Bixby Vision’s expanded Lens Mode features a variety of image-recognition options, including a new Wish List option. When you see a product you’re interested in buying, Wish List makes it easy to save it for later reference.¹

The new Apps Mode offers users more convenient ways to utilize AR in their everyday lives. Use it to, for instance, virtually try on a new pair of sunglasses or some new makeup, or see how your hair would look dyed, or how your living space would look if you added an appliance or piece of furniture that you’re interested in buying.²

Apps Mode also makes it easy to learn more about movies you’re interested in through its new Picture Play³ feature. When you see a poster for an upcoming release, simply show it to Bixby and it’ll instantly play the trailer.

Hands-Free Convenience

Galaxy device users are used to asking Bixby to help them search the web, make a reservation, or launch an app when their hands are full. Now, Bixby’s new Voice Unlock⁴ feature allows you to activate and interact with Bixby when your phone is locked for an even more comfortable user experience.

Bixby Voice Unlock creates a convenient way to utilize Bixby when your phone is out of reach. Say you’re in the middle of making dinner and you need to double check exactly how much of a particular ingredient the recipe calls for. With Bixby Voice Unlock, rather than smudging up your screen with sauce and bits of food, you can simply say “Hi Bixby” to unlock your phone, and then ask Bixby to pull up the recipe for you.

Make Bixby Your Own

To offer users more freedom to utilize Bixby’s handy button, the Galaxy S10 introduces Bixby Key Customization.⁵ Now, you can customize the button to launch Bixby with either a single or double press, and map the other option to launch your favorite app or Quick command. It’s just another convenient way to make Bixby your own.

Speaking of Quick commands, Bixby’s update also makes it easy to share customized Quick commands with your friends.

Quick commands make using Bixby even more convenient by allowing you to replace one or more commands with a simple word or phrase. The opportunities for personalization are endless, and your Quick commands can also be saved as shortcut icons on your phone’s home screen for easy access.⁶ This is especially useful in situations when you’d rather not speak out loud. So for example, when you’re heading into a theater, if you tap the icon for your “Movie Time” Quick command, Bixby will instantly switch your phone to silent mode, turn on “Do not disturb,” reduce brightness completely, and turn off the screen so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the film without interruptions.

And now, with the Galaxy S10, if you’ve crafted the perfect Quick command and you want to send it to someone else, you can simply tap “share” to instantly send it as a link via text message or messaging app.⁷

Held at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium on February 20, Galaxy Unpacked 2019 saw the company unveil a total of five new flagship phones: the highly anticipated Galaxy Fold, which features a game-changing foldable form and Samsung’s largest-ever mobile display, as well as four Galaxy S10 models that allow users to choose the phone that’s best for them.

But that’s not all. The company also announced exciting partnerships that will enable Galaxy S10 users to capture and share moments in dynamic new ways, and revealed three new wearables – the Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Fit – that will change how users enjoy their favorite music and keep track of their fitness.

Samsung Electronics America’s Senior Vice President of Product Marketing, Justin Denison, kicks off the event by introducing the world to the Galaxy Fold – a device that marks the beginning of a whole new mobile category. Summing up the Galaxy Fold as phone “unlike any you’ve ever seen,” Denison demonstrates how the device’s breakthrough design, seamless portability, and intuitive user experience will change everything from multitasking to mobile entertainment, to snapping selfies.

Samsung Electronics America’s Director of Product Marketing, Suzanne de Silva, discusses the ins and outs of the Galaxy S10’s Infinity-O Display. With the world’s first Dynamic AMOLED display and support for HDR10+, she explains, the Galaxy S10 offers “a truly next-generation, cinematic experience.” She also describes how the display’s first-of-its-kind Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner provides vault-like security to keep your device safe.

De Silva explains how the Galaxy S10’s triple rear camera system, which includes an all-new, 123-degree Ultra Wide lens, offers users “a pro-grade camera for every situation.”

After de Silva announces a partnership with Adobe to design a version of (video editing software) Premiere Rush specifically for Galaxy devices, Brazilian YouTube stars Leon Martins and Nilce Moretto demonstrate how the Galaxy S10’s camera and Adobe Premiere Rush CC for Samsung allow users to create incredible content on the go.

De Silva welcomes the Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri (center right), to the stage to discuss how the Galaxy S10 makes sharing photos faster, easier, and better than ever. He reveals that the Galaxy S10 includes a new Instagram Mode built into its camera that allows you to take a photo or video and immediately upload it to your Instagram feed. He also sums up the Galaxy S10 as “the best way to express yourself on Instagram,” and to demonstrate just how easy it is to use, he snaps and posts a quick selfie with his friend, DJ Koh (center left).

“From expansive storage to advanced speeds, the (Galaxy) S10 is like having a super computer in your pocket,” says Drew Blackard, Samsung Electronics America’s Senior Director of Product Marketing. As he explains, the Galaxy S10+ is available with up to 12GB of RAM and a terabyte of base storage, and the Galaxy S10’s new processor enables 29 percent faster CPU speeds and 37 percent faster GPU speeds. He also announces that the Galaxy S10 models will be the first mobile devices optimized to work seamlessly with Unity’s new, gaming engine-enhancing Adaptive Performance feature. The combination of premium performance specs and Adaptive Performance support will enable the Galaxy S10 to power next-level gaming experiences.

Blackard offers the crowd an up-close look at the Galaxy S10 line’s specs, and reveals that the smartphones will be available on March 8, and will also feature new, eco-friendly packaging.

Elina Vives, Samsung Electronics America’s Senior Director of Marketing, introduces Samsung’s new, cord-free Galaxy Buds. Featuring built-in Bixby support, easy controls, clear and smart sound, and a comfortable and compact form factor, the Galaxy Buds are an everyday, in-ear lifestyle companion. They’re designed to keep up with you all day – offering up to six hours of music and up to five hours of calls – and feature a compact case that delivers 1.7 hours of use after a quick 15-minute charge.

Vives explains how the new Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Fit combine exercise-tracking functions with innovations that can help users keep track of their overall wellness. These include heart rate monitors that check for irregular heartbeats, and continuous stress tracking – “to keep you calm when life gets overwhelming.”

Blackard returns to the stage to reveal the final member of the Galaxy S10 family: the Galaxy S10 5G. The first Galaxy phone to be compatible with 5G networks, the Galaxy S10 5G places the power of ultra-high speeds directly into users’ hands. It also features a powerful new 3D Depth Camera, as well as the largest screen and most powerful battery ever included in a Galaxy S device.

After discussing Samsung technologies that have helped accelerate the development of 5G commercial networks over the last ten years, DJ Koh hands the stage over to Hans Vestberg, CEO of Verizon, who reveals that his company will be the first carrier to launch the Galaxy S10 5G.

The Galaxy S10 takes the barely there top and bottom bezels that have become synonymous with Samsung’s flagship phones and reduces them even further. This creates more room to watch movies, read books, and play games on the immersive, 19:9 Infinity-O Display. The devices also feature an in-display camera design that maximizes screen real estate by packing sensors and camera technologies into a tiny hole.

Even with their larger screens and more immersive visuals, the Galaxy S10 models feature slimmer and lighter¹ designs than last year’s editions, and offer users a comfortable one-handed grip. Each Galaxy S10 comes equipped with Samsung’s all-new 123-degree Ultra Wide lens – which features a field of view that’s similar to the human eye, and allows you to capture the world exactly as you see it – as well as a 12MP, Wide-angle, Dual Aperture, Super Speed Dual Pixel lens. The Galaxy S10 and S10+’s triple rear camera setup also includes a 12MP Telephoto (zoom) lens, and the Galaxy S10 5G’s quad rear camera setup features an additional 3D Depth Camera, which improves the quality of portrait-style images.

Each Galaxy S10 also comes equipped with a 10MP, UHD, Dual Pixel front-facing camera that’s perfect for taking high-quality selfies. On the Galaxy S10+ and S10 5G, it’s paired with an RGB depth lens for added capabilities.

Working behind the scenes to help you snap stellar pics is a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that streamlines image processing and makes features like Scene Optimizer even better. The Dynamic AMOLED display also includes an in-display fingerprint-recognition system that adds new levels of comfort and security to unlocking your phone. Samsung’s new in-display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner utilizes ultrasonic waves to map out your fingerprint’s unique pattern, and features an anti-spoofing algorithm that enables it to recognize your real, physical fingerprint and reject images or copies of it.

Powerful Charging Options

In addition to boasting support for Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, the Galaxy S10 features an all-new wireless charging innovation that will change how you power your other devices.

The Galaxy S10’s Wireless PowerShare³ technology allows you to share your power with compatible phones and wearables when they need it most. This means that if you’re away from an outlet and your Galaxy Buds are running low on power, you’ll be able to charge them up by simply placing their case on the back of your phone. The Galaxy S10 introduces Samsung’s new, 19:9 Infinity-O Display, which maximizes screen space to offer users more room to do more, more comfortably. Bezels have been reduced to create more space for what matters most, like watching movies, reading books, and playing games. In fact, compared to the Galaxy S9, the ultra-slim top bezel has been decreased by more than three times.¹

To free up even more pixels for users’ content, the Galaxy S10 features an in-display camera design that packs an array of sensors and camera technologies into a small space. Samsung used a proprietary laser cutting technology to carve a tiny hole in the display – while minimizing damage to the surrounding pixels – that would enable users to enjoy all the essential camera and sensor technologies without losing any screen.

Perfecting this aspect of the design enabled Samsung to craft a revolutionary display that covers the entire front of the phone and makes everything from watching a movie to playing games that much more immersive and enjoyable.

In addition, users can trust that whatever activity they’re engaged in, thanks to its use of Gorilla Glass 6, which is twice as durable as Gorilla Glass 5, the Galaxy S10 is built to last.²

Cinema Screen

The Galaxy S10’s new Dynamic AMOLED display fosters truly cinematic viewing experiences. Featuring a peak luminance of 1200 nits, the display is capable of producing over 16 million colors (36 percent better color range than SDR), with 100 percent mobile color volume in the DCI-P3 color range.

When tested by the experts at DisplayMate, the Dynamic AMOLED display received a 0.4 Just Noticeable Color Difference (JNCD) score. An improvement on the Galaxy S9’s 0.7 JNCD rating, this score confirms the Galaxy S10’s exceptionally accurate color reproduction. In other words, the colors you see on Samsung’s new smartphones are a near-perfect match to colors in real life.

The company’s latest groundbreaking display is also the first smartphone display in the world to support HDR10+: a next-generation open standard for high dynamic range (HDR) video. HDR10+ support effectively delivers cinema-quality visuals to users’ pockets by enabling compatible content to be depicted precisely as the creators intended. This means that when streaming a favorite film, for instance, colors are more accurate, and the viewing experience is more immersive.

The display utilizes dynamic tone mapping technology to optimize colors from scene to scene, and to produce better contrast between light and dark scenes. It also optimizes brightness levels so that even the smallest details look beautiful, and produces true black colors³ for better shadow detail, even in low-light conditions.

The Galaxy S10’s bright, brilliant screen ensures that colors are crisp even under harsh sunlight. So when you’re out and about or lounging by the pool, the sun won’t stop you from catching up on a favorite show, or checking out that video clip your friend just sent.

Beefed-Up Biometric Security

Embedded beneath the Dynamic AMOLED display is Samsung’s new, in-display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner,⁴ which offers vault-like security to keep your device safe.

The scanner works by emitting ultrasonic waves that map the unique pattern of your fingerprint by sensing the tiny air gaps between your finger and the screen. That wave data is then sent back to the scanner and analyzed by the phone’s main chipset in order to determine whether it’s a match.

It works in the blink of an eye, and features 3D anti-spoofing technology that applies a machine learning-based algorithm to the on-screen fingerprint to offer a high level of security. This ensures that your phone will only open once it’s registered your physical fingerprint, and not an image of it. Its security is backed by the world’s first FIDO Alliance Biometric Component certification, and it’s been tested to work in the most challenging of conditions, including in sub-zero temperatures and under bright sunlight.

Easy on the Eyes

Comfort is key when it comes to the Galaxy S10, which is why Samsung optimized its newest flagships with innovations that make these beautiful devices even easier on the eyes.

If you regularly check your phone before going to bed, you’re likely familiar with blue light emissions, which studies indicate can affect your sleep. The Dynamic AMOLED display has been certified by the experts at TÜV Rheinland to reduce blue light by a full 42 percent,⁵ which can help users protect their eyes. Best of all, in addition to making it easier for users to get a good night’s rest, the smartphones’ blue light-reducing technology doesn’t require filters, and won’t compromise the display’s picture quality.

To offer users greater comfort and convenience, each Galaxy S10 also features a comfortable, lightweight design, as well as Samsung’s revolutionary One UI. The latter features a clean, intuitive interface that reduces clutter to help users stay focused, and places important information at the bottom of the display to enable them to comfortably manage their device with one hand. Each Galaxy S10 is like a professional-grade camera that fits in your pocket. The devices’ easy-to-use cameras were designed to allow you to capture any shot and angle. So no matter what you’re shooting, you’ll always have the right lens for the job.

At 123-degrees, the rear camera’s new 16MP Ultra Wide lens features a field of view that’s similar to the human eye. It covers approximately 4.3 times more area¹ than a 77-degree Wide-angle lens, and allows you to capture the world as you see it. Perfect for taking epic landscape shots, big panoramas (both horizontally and vertically), or simply fitting the entire family into a photo, the Ultra Wide lens ensures that you’re always able to capture the full scene.

Each Galaxy S10’s rear camera setup also includes a 12MP Wide-angle, Dual Aperture, Super Speed Dual Pixel lens. It combines an f/1.5-aperture lens with an f/2.4, and automatically adjusts to light just like our eyes to help users snap professional-looking photos, day or night. The Galaxy S10 and S10+’s triple rear camera setup also includes a 12MP Telephoto (zoom) lens. The addition of the advanced NPU makes the camera’s Scene Optimizer function that much more powerful. Now, Scene Optimizer is capable of analyzing even more complex scenes, and can simultaneously process more image recognition data than before. The camera recognizes up to 30 different types of scenes in all (up from 20 with the Galaxy Note9), including “Face,” “Baby,” “Dog,” “Vehicles,” and more. The function will also automatically optimize the color, saturation, white balance and contrast in order to ensure that the image you see on your screen appears as true to life as possible.

When the camera recognizes specific scenes, it will also suggest other ways to potentially improve your photo. For example, if you’re taking a picture of a sunrise, the camera will automatically ask you if you’d like to switch to the Ultra Wide lens to ensure that you capture the scene in all its glory. If you’re taking a picture in extreme low-light conditions, it will propose that you take a Bright Night Shot for a professional-quality picture.

The camera also offers users instant, automatic recommendations on how to best frame their photo through its Shot Suggestion feature. Utilizing a database of over 100 million pictures, Shot Suggestion’s composition guide offers helpful tips to help you improve your photo’s proportions, positioning and overall composition.

The camera’s upgraded Live Focus mode allows you to customize your photos with artistic effects. The Galaxy S10+ utilizes its dual front cameras to support the feature, which includes options to add new spin bokeh, zoom bokeh, and color point effects, while the Galaxy S10 and S10e’s front-facing camera utilizes the NPU’s intelligence.

Silky Smooth Videos

Recorded videos are so much smoother with the Galaxy S10, thanks to groundbreaking innovations that ensure that users’ footage looks fantastic.

The camera’s Super Steady video-recording feature is the first of its kind on a smartphone, and offers users up to three times better video stabilization than conventional technologies. Powered by anti-shake stabilization technology (VDIS), Super Steady evens out shaky footage, allowing you to record fluid video during even your most active moments. So whether you’re dancing at a concert or recording a bumpy bike ride, with the Galaxy S10, the content you capture will be nice and steady.

Both the front and rear cameras are capable of recording pro-grade UHD footage, which allows users to step up their social game with true-to-life video quality. And in another smartphone first, the rear camera offers users the ability to take their recordings to the next level by capturing them in stunning HDR10+.

Utilizing dynamic tone mapping technology that provides 2.1 times broader color range than SDR, the Galaxy S10 allows you to take videos that are brighter and more dynamic than those taken with other smartphone cameras. That’s because the camera uses tone mapping techniques to go frame-by-frame and optimize the color for every scene.

A New AR Emoji Experience

Support for Smarter Wi-Fi

The Galaxy S10 also introduces a dynamic duo of technologies designed to bring an end to the days of spotty Wi-Fi connections.

The first, Intelligent Wi-Fi, allows the devices to seamlessly switch between Wi-Fi and LTE networks in order to foster safe and uninterrupted connections. It uses machine learning to recognize when you’re in an enclosed location where the Wi-Fi might be unreliable, such as an elevator, and it can tell when you’re on the move, like when you’re in a car or walking down the street. In fact, it switches from Wi-Fi to data more than twice as fast as before.

Should your phone encounter a risky Wi-Fi connection, it will alert you with a pop-up asking whether you’d still like to connect.

The Galaxy S10 devices are also the first phones to boast support for the next generation of Wi-Fi technology: Wi-Fi 6.³ Up to 20 percent faster than the previous Wi-Fi standard, Wi-Fi 6 takes downloading and uploading content to the next level. Now, Samsung is celebrating a decade of game-changing innovations with a set of captivating billboards that pay homage to the company’s Korean originality, and tease an exciting future for the Galaxy lineup. In other words, a bold new vision for the Galaxy brand that will drive smartphone innovation for the next 10 years and beyond.

The billboards – which have been installed in Paris’s famous Place de la Concorde – pair beautiful imagery with text written in Hangeul, the Korean letters. When translated, the intriguing messages “미래를 펼치다” and “이월 이십일” are revealed to say, “The future unfolds” and “February twentieth.”
