Gold Award Recognizes Design That Offers Customized Experiences for Different Lifestyles

The Bespoke Infinite Line is a premium built-in look refrigerator that is available in a choice of fridge, freezer or wine cellar models and features a timelessly contemporary modular design that seamlessly blends into any interior.² With simple lines, high-quality natural materials and features that maximize convenience and streamline food storage, the Bespoke Infinite Line adds lasting value to consumers’ kitchens.

The refrigerator’s exterior is made from premium aluminum that is more dent- and scratch-resistant and allows marks and stains to be easily wiped away. The interior is bright and refined with its Black Metal Cooling and Tunnel Lighting — two features that epitomize the refrigerator’s elegant balance of form and function.

Total of 80 Awards, From Product to UX Design, Including TVs, Home Appliances and Smartphones

Samsung Electronics’ 80 wins across all design categories, including Product and UX, were the most of any nominee at this year’s awards.

In addition to the Bespoke Infinite Line’s Gold Award, Samsung received awards in the Product category for the Odyssey Ark, the world’s first 55-inch 1000R curved gaming screen; the Bespoke Jet, a cordless stick vacuum with an all-in-one Clean Station; and the Galaxy Z Flip4 Bespoke edition, a smartphone that offers an exclusive customization experience by allowing users to design a device that is uniquely theirs.

Samsung’s accessibility-enhanced TV UX, which includes an avatar-based Sign Language Guide that provides explanations of TV menus in sign language, and Samsung Space Tycoon, a virtual space and management simulation game on the Roblox metaverse platform where users can create and play games and share experiences using Samsung products, were also recognized for design excellence.

Three Gold Award Winning Products Recognized for Designs That Offer Customized Experiences to Different Lifestyles

The Freestyle is a portable screen that can display as large as 254cm in diagonal length depending on the environment where it is used, be it on the wall, the ceiling or the floor as it rotates 180 degrees.

Thanks to its lightweight and minimal design, The Freestyle is highly portable, allowing the user to hold it in one hand, and can be used with ease both indoors and outside such as on camping sites. Depending on each individual lifestyle, it can also be used as a Bluetooth speaker or as an ambient lamp that can glow light in various colors.

The Galaxy Z Flip3 was honored for its iconic and compact design that comes with premium features and exclusive foldable experiences, providing a truly personalized smartphone experience. With Galaxy Z Flip3’s unique form factor, users are able to enjoy the full smartphone experience when unfolded and pocketable design when folded in half. Not only is the design refined by providing a large Cover Screen, but it also maximizes the usability by allowing users to view notifications and capture a quick photo even when folded.

The vacuum cleaner The Bespoke Slim also won the Gold Award for its simple design that blends well with the surrounding living space. The Bespoke concept, which brings customized products to fit lifestyles and tastes, was applied to the product, improving the experience throughout the entire cleaning process from product storage to dust emptying.

Total of 71 Awards, From Product to UX Design, Including TV, Home appliance and Smartphones

With its designs being recognized in all categories at the iF Design Award 2022 including Product and User Interface (UI), Samsung Electronics won the most number of awards totaling 71.

In addition to the three Gold Awards, the Neo QLED 8K, the Bespoke French Door Refrigerator and the Galaxy Buds2 also won awards in the Product category.

The One UI 4, new interface of Galaxy smartphones that enables users to customize their devices, and the Galaxy Upcycling at Home, which allows users to build a smart home by recycling unused Galaxy phones into Home IoT devices were also recognized for the design excellence.

Unveiled at CES 2020, Samsung’s latest ultra-wide curved gaming monitor combines unparalleled depth with HDR 1000 and premium design, all to offer gamers an incomparable experience. The Gold Award honors were given to BESPOKE AX9000N air purifier and BESPOKE City Color Edition. BESPOKE AX9000N air purifier was recognized for its innovative concept of letting the consumers choose the purifier’s front part design according to the consumers’ lifestyle.

In addition, the BESPOKE City Color Edition panel collection was recognized for its range of colors and materials for kitchen appliances including refrigerators, induction cooktops, and ovens. The BESPOKE City Color Edition offers color palettes inspired by various cities such as Stockholm, Berlin, and Seoul.

In other categories, Samsung’s designs that consider accessibility and environment have won awards including:

Samsung received the gold award for the Sero and the Bespoke customizable refrigerator. The Sero, which means “vertical” in Korean, has the ability to pivot between horizontal and vertical orientations. This new lifestyle TV features a modern and elegant design that stands out in any space. The Bespoke refrigerator, customizable to customers’ personal tastes, consists of eight models ranging from one-door to four-door units and offers a replaceable front panel of the sleek door which allows mixing and matching of different materials and colors, reflecting personal preferences in style. The ‘Kitchen Fit’ door was employed to give a ‘built in-like’ look to any kitchen.

• Galaxy Fold, a foldable smartphone that optimizes content viewing experience when unfolded and maximizes portability when folded.
• Galaxy Watch Active2, a smartwatch that has a soft, seamless silhouette with reduced bezel size for expanded viewing experience.
• Space Monitor, an integrated clamp monitor stand which helps maximize desk space and allows its users to reclaim their workspace.
• AirDresser, a clothing refresher that has a full-length mirror highlighted with a pinstripe pattern and color gradation to accentuate any space harmoniously with its premium look.
• Samsung Induction Plate, a portable and slim dual induction range, is ideal for cooking multiple dishes at once. It has a sleek design appearance, making it a refined centrepiece when placed on the kitchen or table.

Samsung won two iF Design Awards in the packaging category:

• Galaxy Fold package, featuring new graphics, showcases a folded version of the original Galaxy logo.
• Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ packages demonstrate an eco-friendly approach, removing unnecessary elements and using pulp mold.

Samsung won 17 iF Design Awards in the communication category:

• Foldable UX for Galaxy Fold offers seamless experiences between the cover display and main display.
• Emotional Air Conditioner UX emphasizes necessary information subtly yet vividly through ‘Ambient Lighting.’
• Samsung Flip UX is an intuitive electronic board UX that digitizes the analog experience to allow easy use.
• Samsung ‘Resonance,’ an exhibition in the Milan Design Week 2019 which was an integrated brand communication campaign to convey the spirit of Samsung’s design philosophy.

Samsung won eight iF Design Awards in the professional concept category:

• GEMS (Gait Enhancing & Motivating System), an exoskeleton that assists in posture correction and helps health management on mobile devices.
• Device Sync, a feature that enables effortless connection between IoT devices through Vision Recognition and real-time Generative Visualization technologies.

This year’s achievement of 55 awards, including the gold award for the Modernist Column Refrigerator, CHG90 QLED gaming monitor, the Odyssey gaming PC set, and Samsung Power, is Samsung’s greatest yet, since first participating in the iF Design Award in 1996. Samsung has now won more prizes than any other company in the last three years of the iF Design Award.

The Modernist Column Refrigerator is a super-premium built-in column-type refrigerator leading change in modern design in the U.S. built-in market. It features 3DLighting, which illuminates the elegant all-stainless-steel interiors, and intuitive functions such as the dual door-mounted cameras, Push-To-Open Door assist, and waist-high Hidden Touch Control Panel. An internal water dispenser provides fresh filtered water, while Dual Icemakers serve both traditional and Cocktail Ice.  Precise Cooling technology with two evaporators also ensures the freshest ingredients.

The CHG90 QLED gaming monitor, a super ultra-wide 49-inch 32:9 screen with 1800R curvature, is equivalent to two 16:9 monitors side by side, generates an exceptionally engaging gaming experience. The monitor frame and stand embody robustness, solidness and durability, while the monitor can be tilted up and down or adjusted left or right for optimal usability. Gamer-friendly features, such as shortcut keys that can save personal settings in each of the gaming screens, ensure smoother gameplay for the winning edge in onscreen contests.

The Odyssey is a compact, powerful gaming desktop offering a clean and fresh approach to gaming with a keyboard and mouse. Samsung Electronics announced that it won 38 iF Design Awards, including one Gold award, at the world renowned International Forum Design Awards 2016. Twenty-six of the awards were given for superior product design, eight for communication design, two for concept design, one for package design and one for interior architecture design.

Samsung received the Gold award for its Serif TV, a result of its focus on design that harmoniously interacts with people’s surrounding environments and naturally blends in with everyday furniture and various household objects. Main features of the Serif TV include: a design that resembles a capital “I” in serif font; a detachable stand, which allows the product to be placed anywhere within the home without standing out; and a fabric cover on the back side of the product, which heightens its beauty from every angle.

In addition to the Gold award, Samsung won a total of 26 iF Design Awards in the product category:

• Galaxy S6 & S6 edge: Both smartphones feature a harmonious design of metal and glass parts, and the Galaxy S6 edge features the first dual-edge display on either sides.
• Gear S2: A smart wearable device with a unique rotating bezel, and an optimized UX for easy operation.
• Chef Collection Fridge: A refrigerator for the European market, featuring a Kitchen Fit design that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding kitchen furniture without needing additional built-in construction.
• AddWash Front-load Washing Machine: A washer with a distinctive access door that makes it convenient to add any item during a wash cycle without opening the main washer door.
• System Air Conditioner 360Cassette: A circular, ceiling-mounted system air conditioner that controls the temperature of the room by providing an even distribution of air across a full 360 degree range.
• MX3: A3 Multifunction Printer with a 7 inch LCD screen for easy operation.

In the remaining categories, Samsung received 12 awards. Following are the key products and concepts:

• Galaxy Note5 UX: A smartphone UX that allows consumers to write a memo with an S Pen without turning on the screen. Awarded in the communications category.
• Visual Identity Toolkit: A visual identity toolkit that provides a unified guideline for all digital and printed media of Samsung Printing Solutions. Awarded in the communications category.
• TV UI (Stripe UI): An intuitive TV user interface that offers consumers a novel experience in navigating media content. Awarded in the professional concept design category.
• Avengers Package: The Galaxy S6 edge limited edition package inspired by the Avengers. Awarded in the package designs category.
• Samsung d’light: An exhibition space that provides the Samsung brand experience and showcases Samsung’s latest products and solutions. Awarded in the interior architecture category.

Samsung Electronics printers and Multi-function Printers (MFP) were recognized for their design prowess, receiving four iF Design Awards, including one Gold Award. The award-winning products were the MultiXpress 4 (MX4), MultiXpress 7 (MX7), M5370 and the M45.

The iF Design Award is an international design competition hosted by the International Forum Design in Germany. First held in 1953, the iF Design Award is one of the world’s three major design awards along with the Red Dot Design Award and the IDEA Award. The awards are categorized into five groups: product design, communication design packaging design, interior architecture and professional concept. International expert juries gather to carefully evaluate and analyze all the submitted products according to design, appropriate use of material and innovation. The top 75 products are awarded the Gold Award.

The MX4 led the way with a Gold Award that recognizes not only the unit’s outstanding design but also excellence in creating an integrated design identity. Designed specifically to enhance user experience, the MX4 provides simple and fast usability by replacing complex feature buttons with an integrated 10.1-inch tablet and our highly acclaimed Smart UI.

Integrated Design Identity

Since the release of the CLP-415 and CLX-4195 series in 2013, both of which won Gold iF Awards, we have created an integrated design identity and implemented it across our printer lineup.

The pioneering design concept splits the interface and the box, and represents Samsung’s back-to-basics idea of keeping it simple, clean and timeless. To keep the design sleek and organized, the upper interface and lower storage are separated. The upper interface portion has an organic design with a smooth look and feel, while the lower engine and storage section completes the overall look with a simple and clean shape.

The goal of the design process was to put the end user first, providing both value and long term reliability while also considering usability and ergonomics. The signature color scheme includes a unique combination of warm and cool color tones, adding sophistication to the otherwise dull achromatic colors. The ebony brown interface and light grey storage color combination matches the latest office trends of using warm tones for the office environment.

“The integrated design provides higher value through shape, color, and usability,” said Jeong. “We were able to be creative in utilizing the latest in ergonomic design concepts, and we will continue to use this as the core of our mid- to long term design strategy.”

He added, “We understand the need to have streamlined printer operations in the office, and continue to discover new methods in design and integrated technological innovation within their office products.”
