The latest addition to Samsung’s Galaxy S series, the Galaxy S10+, was recently rated “Best of Test” by PROTESTE, the largest consumer protection association in Latin America.

The Galaxy S10+ took the top spot in PROTESTE’s smartphone rankings with a record-setting score of 85 points (out of 100). In second and third place are the Galaxy S10 with 84 points, and the Note9 with 83. The Galaxy S10e ranked sixth with 82 points, and the Galaxy S9+ ranked eighth with 81, which means that half of the top ten smartphones in PROTESTE’s rankings are Samsung Galaxy devices.

The Galaxy S10+ stood out in a variety of tests, and was particularly impressive in the portion that evaluated resistance to shocks and water. To test the Galaxy S10+’s durability, PROTESTE repeatedly dropped the device from a height of 90cm, and immersed it in a container of water for an extended period of time.

“We evaluated points that are often extremely important to consumers, such as resistance and the battery,” said Thiago Leite Porto e Silva, a specialist in technology products at PROTESTE. “The Galaxy S10+ exceeded our expectations, and surprised us with the highest grade ever earned in our tests.”

The Galaxy S10+’s top ranking is a testament to the innovation of its features. “This ranking demonstrates that the consumer is at the center of our efforts and development, and will always be our main driving force,” said Jeonghwan Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Samsung Electronics Latin America.

As part of its ongoing commitment to revolutionizing the way payments are made, Samsung Electronics announced that Samsung Pay is now available in Mexico. Samsung Pay’s entry into the Mexican market marks the second Latin American country to receive the service and the 20th market worldwide.

With the launch of Samsung Pay in Mexico, users with a compatible Galaxy device* will now be able to easily make purchases through their smartphones at nearly any establishment across the country that accepts credit, debit, or loyalty cards.

While other payment platforms are limited by their use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, Samsung Pay offers both NFC and its proprietary Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology, making it the most widely accepted mobile payment solution on the market. MST works by releasing a signal that acts like a traditional payment card’s magnetic band, allowing users to pay at nearly any conventional point of sale terminal**.

To bring this service to Mexico, Samsung strategically partnered with some of the country’s leading financial partners, including payment providers (American Express, MasterCard and Visa); banks (Banorte, Banregio, Citibanamex, HSBC and Santander); and banking acquirers, services and tools such as Clip and iZettle.

“We are excited to expand Samsung Pay across Latin America and are confident that our customers in Mexico will embrace the ability to easily pay and earn rewards through the convenience of their smartphones,” said Claudia Contreras, Marketing Director of Samsung Electronics Mexico. “We will continue working to forge alliances with additional partner institutions that our customers care about to reach even more users and help drive the growth of the digital economy.”

In addition to its widespread acceptance and ease of use, Samsung Pay is also one of the most secure payment options for users. Samsung Pay uses three levels of security to ensure its transactions are secure: biometric authentication through fingerprint or iris recognition; tokenization, a system that generates virtual information for each transaction rather than storing financial details in the device; and integration with Samsung Knox, the defense-grade security platform that monitors the device in real time to prevent suspicious use.

For a full list of partners that have aligned with Samsung Pay in Mexico, please visit: www.samsung.com/mx/samsungpay.

*In Mexico, Samsung Pay is compatible with the Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S8 and S8+, Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy A8 and A8+ (2018), Galaxy A5 (2016 and 2017), Galaxy A7 (2016 and 2017), Galaxy A9 (2016), Galaxy A3 (2017), Galaxy J5Pro and Galaxy J7Pro. Samsung Pay is exclusively for Samsung Galaxy smartphones and available through select payment networks, banks and retailers. The service’s availability is subject to change.

**Available almost anywhere, subject to Samsung Pay’s compatibility with MST and/or NFC payment terminals. Card readers on certain payment terminals could require a software update in order to become fully compatible with Samsung Pay.

Samsung Electronics is poised to make a dramatic impact on the Latin American market with the AR9500M, its first wall-mounted Wind-Free air conditioner. Unveiled at Febrava 2017 – the International Trade Fair for Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Air Heating (HVAC-R) – in Brazil on September 12, the AR9500M was awarded the exhibition’s Innovation Award (Selo Destaque Inovação). The product was first launched in Brazil, and features an innovative cooling system designed to simultaneously conserve energy and deliver comfort.

The World’s First Wind-Free Technology

Samsung’s AR9500M sets itself apart by producing no direct air drafts, keeping the room temperature comfortable thanks to Wind-Free technology. This unique technology gently spreads cool air through 21,000 micro air holes and creates “still air” moving at speeds slower than 0.15m/s.*

Wind-Free cooling technology introduces a two-step cooling process, reducing temperature in Fast Cooling Mode before switching to Wind-Free Mode, which maintains the desired temperature while minimizing drafts. In Wind-Free Mode, energy consumption is reduced by up to 72 percent** compared to Fast Cooling Mode. Furthermore, using the Samsung Digital Inverter 8-Pole with POWERboost Technology, the AR9500M takes less time to reach its desired speed.

The AR9500M’s unique Triangle Architecture also contributes to its superior cooling performance. The upgraded structure’s wider inlet allows for more air to be drawn in at once, while the optimal width and angle of the outlet, extra v-blades and large fan – which is 22 percent larger than in previous models – ensure that air is cooled and expelled faster, farther and wider to reach every corner of the room.

The Wi-Fi enabled AR9500M allows temperature and product settings to be adjusted remotely via the Samsung Connect application. The application offers users real-time updates on performance and power consumption, and it can identify problems in need of repair.

The AR9500M was introduced to industry professionals at Febrava 2017, alongside the 360 Cassette, the world’s first circular-designed air conditioner, and the Wind-Free 1Way Cassette for residential as well as commercial use. Taking place until September 15 at São Paulo’s Expo Exhibition and Convention Center, the trade fair is the most important event in the HVAC-R chain in Latin America, showcasing over 550 HVAC-R companies and attracting more than 30,000 visitors each year.

Visitors to the Samsung booth can appreciate the comfort and quiet of Wind-Free technology for themselves at the company’s Wind-Free experience zone, which showcases its air conditioning technologies. Also on display are Samsung’s further cutting-edge HVAC-R solutions, including its corrosion resistance technology for long-lasting performance, with special protection optimized for the Latin American market.

Brazil is a significant first step for Samsung towards capturing the Latin American market. The country represents the continent’s core market, with an air conditioner market share of over 25 percent and a high demand for the comfort and efficiency offered by the premium air conditioner.

Brazil’s Latin American neighbors will not be left wanting. Samsung has mapped out a further expansion into the region’s substantial market, equivalent to $2.4 billion dollars, in the latter half of 2017. There will be consecutive launches in new Latin American markets, when countries such as Peru, Argentina and Chile will be able to welcome Wind-Free technology and comfort into their lives.

Samsung Electronics and America Movil have signed and formalized a letter of intent to develop a series of pioneering projects across Latin America. Under the agreement, both companies will develop technologies for the new era of hyper-connectivity and of the “Internet of Things” (IoT) in Mexico and elsewhere in the region.

This collaboration represents an important step in the evolution of telecommunications. The implementation of the 4.5G network within Mexico and other Latin-American countries is the main objective, but the initiative also looks to perfect and commercialize smart products and solutions that allow consumers to tap into the IoT universe.

The partnership between the two companies consists of supporting the testing of 4.5G technologies using the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy S7 edge devices in countries such as Mexico and Puerto Rico. The aim of these tests and examinations will be to realize the co-development of technologies such as VoLTE, VoWiFi, 4×4 MIMO, 256-QAM, and IoT.

“Given that America Movil provides integrated telecommunication services across 17 countries within the Latin-American region, the company represents an important strategic player for the permeation of the latest mobile networks within the region. We are confident that, with the support of the technology pertaining to Samsung devices, we will soon be able to place new connectivity options within the grasp of consumers,” said Pedro Kim, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics Latin America.

“Through this collaboration with Samsung, we will be able to offer our customers innovative solutions that address a variety of needs and allow them to benefit from the Internet of Things and new technological tools to boost productivity, become more efficient and make their lives easier. With the grand telecommunications infrastructure that we have developed and the forthcoming implementation of the 4.5G network, each new device that connects to the internet through our net system will find less latency, much greater speed, vast coverage and the best overall connectivity support,” added Angel Alija, America Movil’s Wireless COO (Chief Operating Officer).

Consistently perfecting mobile networks that are capable of withstanding larger volumes of traffic and transactions is essential for the successful deployment of the IoT. By ensuring that both connectivity and the exchange of high-speed mobile data are sustained at all times and in all places, an optimal user-experience will emerge.

Wrapping up its “Launching People – Mixed Talents” campaign in Latin America, Samsung Electronics held a creativity marathon from May 11 to May 12 in Mexico City to encourage the region’s youth to work for the democratization of access to information. The campaign aimed to encourage Millennials to propose solutions to improve the digital inclusion of children in Latin America.

The creativity marathon, entitled “Interaction for Action,” was held over a period of 15 hours, and saw teams of 60 participants—including educators, developers, programmers and NGO leaders—interact to create a solution that allows children to more easily access communication technologies. The team with the most inventive proposal received a monetary reward for their idea.

The campaign aimed to encourage Millennials to propose solutions to improve the digital inclusion of children in Latin America.

the Internet or utilizing smartphone applications, might be effortless for many around the world, but is still unfeasible for about half of Latin America’s population, according to a survey by Datanalisis.

This lack of access interferes directly in the educational and economic progress of Latin countries. In fact, 61 percent of Latin youth agree that the scarcity of access to technology can be a challenge and an obstacle to gaining an education.

“That’s why we chose digital inclusion as a theme for the campaign ‘Launching People – Mixed Talents’ in Latin America,” explains Mario Laffitte, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at Samsung Latin America. “We conducted this campaign to motivate young people to interact in search of creative and innovative ideas and to show that Samsung technology can be used in a meaningful way, when combined with the thoughts and ideas of young people.”

Despite existing challenges, the majority of Millennials, the cohort of 18- to 29-year-olds that represents approximately a quarter of the world’s population, want and believe they can make a difference in their countries.

The “Mixed Talents” campaign in Latin America, which was held in Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Chile in the latter part of 2015 to the first half of this year, has demonstrated that this powerful group of young people does in fact have the power to make a change. The initiative has also demonstrated that Samsung’s technology can be used in a meaningful way, when combined with Millennials’ ideas, like the ones presented at the creativity marathon.

“We are certain that our campaign helped to awaken the social interest of young people,” notes Laffitte. “With this, we plant a seed. From now on, there is a huge potential to alleviate the current situation.”

As Samsung’s 2015 Launching People campaign comes to an end, it is certain that future initiatives will continue to help individuals use technology to realize their dreams and reach their full potential. Launching People will also continue to bring to light creative and innovative ideas that illustrate how powerful technology can be when it comes to solving society’s biggest challenges.

Samsung Electronics announced its commitment to education and presented its innovations including virtual reality devices at the Brazilian Fair of Sciences and Engineering – FEBRACE 2016, which was held during March , in São Paulo – Brazil. During the event, which was promoted by the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (Poli – USP), students from high school and technical colleges from across Brazil presented more than 300 projects focused on several knowledge areas.

On the third day of the event, three Samsung executives, Gabriel Farias, Guilherme Selber and Antonio Marcon, gave lectures on the Internet of Things (IoT) and Samsung’s innovations. On the following day was an award ceremony, during which a project was awarded the “Samsung Internet of Things Award.” The project was recognized for providing the best solution—using connectivity and technology—to a local community issue. As recognition, the winning team received a trophy, medals and educational kits with electronic materials.

“Samsung uses its global network and its innovations to generate positive changes around the world,” said Helvio Kanamaru, Senior Manager of Corporate Citizenship at Samsung Latin America. “We believe that technology is an excellent mechanism for young people to have access to a world of possibilities and develop new opportunities.”

“FEBRACE invites and encourages students from high school to develop projects and exercise scientific research,” Kanamaru said. “It is an important convergence of social responsibility, education and integration with the academic world – topics that are very important in Samsung’s Corporate Citizenship platform.”

FEBRACE’s coordinator, professor Roseli de Deus Lopes, highlighted the expectations of the fair in relation to the students.

“The most important aspect is not the result of developing a prototype or product, but the whole process, the various stages of research, reflection, construction and observation required for projects development,” Ms Lopes said

Samsung has contributed to improvements in education through its own initiatives carried out in Latin American countries, such as ‘Respostas para o Amanhã’ (Solve for Tomorrow), a contest that encourages students and teachers from public high schools to develop projects that benefit their communities, using the knowledge acquired in the classroom.

The company has also been developing the Tech Institute Program, which offers opportunities for young people to obtain technical training through the sponsorship of scholarships. Last year, Samsung promoted a special edition in Brazil – the Tech Institute Internet of Things, a course offered to high school students in order to encourage them to create solutions for a smart house using the Internet of Things. This edition of the program was held in partnership with the Integrated Technology Systems Lab (LSITEC) that is also responsible for organizing FEBRACE.

“We live in an increasingly connected world,” Kanamaru said. “Samsung’s electronic devices already offer great interaction between them, but we want to go beyond. Therefore, we are promoting the Tech Institute IoT with LSITEC and sponsoring FEBRACE. The new innovation-based labor market needs young professionals with solid training in those fields.”

Two Samsung Smart TV digital campaign videos from Latin America have been receiving positive feedback for their messages, which tug at people’s heart strings. The two spots have stories that deal with families that are separated by long distances keeping in touch through Samsung Smart TVs. The storytelling is easily relatable for many families in Latin America, and around the world for that matter, who must do their best to stay in close contact with family members.

The first, titled “Connect with Those You Love Most with Samsung Smart TV,” depicts a father using his Samsung Smart TV to learn how to prepare his daughter for her ballet performance. He uses such features as Quick connect (to get a closer look at some makeup), Group Video Call (to consult with family members) and the Multi Link Screen capability (to keep an eye on the game while also learning a thing or two about hairstyling).

In the second video, titled “A Happy Connected Birthday with Samsung Smart TV”, a young boy spends the day using the Samsung Smart TV to prepare a birthday party for his father, which takes place via video conference.

Samsung SUHD TVs not only have sensational picture quality, with nano crystal color technology and stunning contrast, it also offers a stylish design and a selection of great smart features. With Quick Connect, Samsung Smart TVs can auto-detect your mobile phone through BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) and share content between mobile devices and TVs with just one click. This allows you to share photos, videos or music from your mobile device on your Smart TV, use your device as a remote control or play mobile apps on the Smart TV screen.

With the Multi-Link Screen, you can split the screen in two, and watch live TV on one side and use an app on the other. Or, watch two TV channels side by side. It is even possible to adjust the sizes of each window for added multi-tasking convenience.

Finally, the JS9500 Samsung SUHD TV not only comes with the elegant real metal grand chamfer design, it also has a built-in camera, which allows for free group video conferencing in 1080p. In addition to all the great features and Smart TV content previously available, these new features really help families to connect more easily than ever.
