Samsung Electronics unveiled its latest lineup of MicroLED, QLED 8K and Lifestyle TVs ahead of CES 2020. With the introduction of new display sizes, 8K AI upscaling capabilities, innovative display orientation technology, and more, Samsung showcased how its 2020 lineups redefine immersion and revolutionize home integration.

“Consumers use screens every day to work from home, exercise from home, and even shop from home. As our lifestyles continue to evolve, the TV screen is evolving with them to provide consumers access to their favorite content and real-time information whenever and wherever they want it,” said Jong-hee Han, President of Visual Displays at Samsung Electronics. “As part of our vision of ‘Screens Everywhere,’ we’re thrilled to deliver a more vivid and connected at-home viewing experience by incorporating AI-enabled features and 8K technology into our displays.”

MicroLED Pioneering the Home Entertainment Market

Samsung introduced the home-ready, modular MicroLED, which combines next-generation screen technology with unprecedented customization capabilities. Consumers are now able to personally experience how Samsung’s design and innovation engineering teams have reimagined the TV.

With 75 -,88-, 93- and 110-inch display sizes, MicroLED models are suited for a variety of homes and lifestyles. The new 88- and 150-inch MicroLED models introduce ultra-slim infinity designs, virtually removing all four sides of the bezels for a finish that blends right into any wall. And consumers can also connect multiple MicroLED panels together to create new combinations and adapt their TV for their specific space.

MicroLED displays offer best-in-class picture quality. They deliver greater depth, better resolution, and higher clarity as well as a peak brightness of 5,000 nits. They also leverage upscaling abilities based on deep learning to deliver the highest-quality content, regardless of the source. The result is that these MicroLED displays provide an unparalleled sense of immersion for the at-home viewing experience.

8K QLED Lineup Expands With Strengthened AI Quantum Processor 8K and Design

Samsung’s flagship Q950TS QLED 8K TV is the industry’s first 8K TV to combine a striking, ultra-thin form factor, premium 8K picture quality, and impressive surround-sound audio. Plus, the Q950TS introduces the ‘Infinity Screen,’ which produces a screen-to-body ratio of 99 percent to create an unprecedented viewing experience.

With stunning 8K resolution, the Q950TS delivers the best LCD picture quality on the market. Equipped with the AI Quantum Processor 8K, it has built-in 8K AI upscaling and deep-learning capabilities that can automatically upscale non-8K content to pristine and true-to-life 8K resolution. With a feature called Adaptive Picture, it can also optimize the screen to both ambient conditions and individual images. And the AI Quantum Processor – the powerhouse behind the flagship display – is also helping to power Samsung’s open smart home platform, Tizen, enabling users to experience everything from enhanced picture quality to heightened usability to other connected home functions.

Further supporting the picture quality and design enhancements of the QLED 8K lineup, the 8K ecosystem continues to expand to provide seamless playback for 8K content from providers like YouTube. The adoption of AV1 codec allows for better compression rates, and enables the support of HDR10+ technology, image dimensionality, brightness optimization, and contrast ratio.

And building off of the picture quality amplification are the QLED 8K’s premium sound features – Q-Symphony, Object Tracking Sound+ (OTS+), and Active Voice Amplifier. These features maximize immersive sound by delivering dimensional and dynamic audio that corresponds with large screen viewing experiences. And when paired with the CTA “Best of Innovation”-winning HQ-Q800T soundbar, the TV’s speakers sync with the soundbar to serve as an additional audio channel and create a more dynamic soundscape.

Lifestyle TV “The Sero” Expands Display Possibilities Across the Global Market

Samsung is also growing its portfolio of Lifestyle TVs with an expanded rollout of The Sero. The Sero, which means “vertical” in Korean, has the ability to pivot between horizontal and vertical orientations – just like a smartphone or tablet. Following its initial rollout in South Korea last year, Samsung is set to expand The Sero’s availability to several global markets in 2020 .

The Sero’s display orientation technology connects seamlessly with users’ mobile devices to smoothly and naturally display content in traditional horizontal formats, as well as vertical formats designed for mobile consumption. Consumers can expect to enjoy a variety of content – including social media, YouTube and other personal videos – in whatever display orientation mirrors their mobile device.

Geared toward millennial and Gen Z consumers, The Sero provides a modern design that stands out in any space and a range of different display features when it is not in use. A CTA “Best of Innovation” winner at CES, The Sero combines the cutting-edge functions of Samsung’s top-level displays while providing a new approach to home entertainment technology that meets the needs and habits of the growing mobile viewing audience.

“Consumers today expect TVs that can fully integrate into their individual lifestyles and Samsung is redefining the role of the screen creating delivering new digital services and creating new designs to enhance your life” said Grace Dolan, Vice President of Marketing Communication at Samsung Electronics America.

Flashy digital signages at the Time Square and scoreboards at baseball stadiums are things that often come to mind when you think about an ‘LED display.’ In line with the popular belief and real use cases, LED displays tend to belong in public venues and are used for advertisements. While LED displays can be found unfit for home installations, Samsung Electronics has changed the rules of the game with a “Samsung LED for Home – The Wall and IF Series MicroLED displays. Find out how Samsung is transforming the way consumers enjoy the top-of-the-line LED technology by bringing it to their homes.

Bringing Huge LED Displays to the Home

Samsung Electronics’ CEDIA 2018 booth introducing the Super Fine Pixel Pitch technology

In traditional LED displays, which was intended to present visuals from afar, the gap between LED pixels did not have to be as close. However, when these displays are used indoors at homes, hotels or penthouses, the story gets more interesting. Considering the close distance between the display and viewers, it is inevitable for the displays to have extra precision, with pixels as proximate to one another so that the gaps in between cannot be visible to the naked eye.

The perfectly clear image quality with immense details can be achieved with Samsung LED for Home displays. Samsung was able to do this by reducing the LED pixel spaces with MicroLED display’s ‘fine pixel pitch’ technology. As the name suggests, the LEDs arranged in the fine pixel pitch style are set about 1㎜ from each other. Even the closest look at a favorite movie scene in front of the display will have no flaws since the displays capture the tiniest details.

In addition to the splendid presentation features, Samsung LED for Home displays can be synced with high-end audio such as ‘JBL K2 S9900’ of Harman and ‘Model B’ of Steinway Lyngdorf in Denmark.

Samsung Electronics’ LED for Home display (right) in comparison to a conventional display

Not only that, Samsung LED for Home also performs to last with a lifespan that is two to three times longer than an average projector bulb, and remote monitoring options that offer quick and convenient prevention as well as troubleshooting of errors.

“As consumers always anticipate for the next big thing, we wanted to transform the way people watch video with our Samsung LED for Home displays,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Samsung’s Visual Display Enterprise Business Team. “Not only do these displays offer the best picture quality, but they ultimately deliver never-before-seen viewing experiences.”

146-inch The Wall and 219-inch IF Series Hit the Market

At the Consumer Electronic Show 2018 held this January, Samsung unveiled The Wall, the world’s first modular, 146-inch and 0.8㎜ pixel pitch with MicroLED display that delivers intense black and pure colors along with outstanding brightness and contrast. The Wall also provides intense expression of blacks for the ultimate contrast, and superior color purity for true-to-life imagery. Awarded ‘Best New Product’ in the AV/Home Theater category at the CEDIA 2018, The Wall offers HDR 10+ technology that enhances the peak brightness, colors and contrast in every scene.

“Through a rigorous manufacturing process that meticulously arranges 24 million individual pixels to craft a UHD display to an ultra-low reflection black surface technology, The Wall is packed with an array of specialized and advanced technologies that viewers can’t get from anywhere but Samsung,” explains TaeYoung Huh, Vice President and Head of Samsung’s Visual Display Product Strategy Team.

Another Samsung LED for Home option is the IF Series. The IF Series P1.2 provides excellent FHD (109-inch) and UHD (219-inch) resolution displays that are packed with advanced technologies for enhanced image clarity and performance bringing life-like viewing into the homes of consumers. The display boasts enhanced peak brightness, nearly two times higher than standard LED maximum brightness norms, and also supports HDR10+* and LED HDR to deliver clearly defined and near-perfect visuals with deep blacks and crisp colors.

The key advantage of Samsung LED for Home is its modular formation, which allows configuration in a variety of sizes and shapes beyond the standard 16:9 aspect ratio screen. Since these displays are unaffected by ambient light, they can readily be installed in various indoor locations within homes – a dark private media room or a bright living room.

Without restrictions in size or form, the Samsung LED for Home displays foster a truly original experience. To help create homes and indoor spaces where the displays are in perfect harmony with the surrounding environment and users’ unique styles, Samsung plans to expand the Samsung LED for Home product lineup and further develop technologies to integrate the displays into the daily lifestyles of consumers.

* The IF series will support HDR10+ from the fourth quarter of 2018.

Samsung Electronics is committed to developing products that suit consumers’ changing lifestyles. Along this line, Samsung understands that the TV screen is everywhere these days – no longer just serving its traditional role of a television provider. TV screens are becoming the ultimate lifestyle product, and Samsung is at the forefront of evolving screens beyond previous size, resolution, form and usage limitations. For the first in the Online Docent series, Samsung invites you to join us on a tour of Samsung’s TV technology, straight from the City Cube Berlin. Read on for a virtual guide of the state of the art display technology on offer in Samsung’s dedicated booths at the IFA Exhibition Hall.

The Ultimate in TV Picture Quality: QLED 8K

This year at IFA, Samsung is introducing the QLED 8K, the very latest example of how Samsung products put you right into the center of the action. Right at the front of the visual display zone is a curved wall showcasing the QLED 8K, offering users the most advanced version of the current TV image on the market.

In the example video, see how 8K video brings you so close to the image with an immersive result that is truly life-life, making you feel like you could reach out and touch the details on screen; the quality of the image means you can even make out the minutiae of the hair on the ant’s back. This is because the QLED 8K has 33 million pixels, four times more than a 4K UHD TV. Because more pixels are packed into the same size display, you can sense the real vividness and clarity of the image even when looking close-up. In particular, extra-large screen options of 65-inch, 75-inch and beyond give you an unprecedented sense of depth, just like being in a movie theater.

With 4,000 nit peak brightness –the highest amongst mass-produced TVs and the standard followed by major Hollywood studios – viewers can see things they have never seen on a TV screen before. Real 8K resolution, combined with QLED Quantum Dot technology and Q HDR 8K, has come together to create the viewing experience that users actually want – be it the detailing in the flicker of a campfire or the contrast balance of afternoon sunlight passing through leaves.

At this exhibit, visitors can get a sense of the QLED 8K’s revolutionary AI upscaling features, which transform UHD, HD and even SD content into near-8K quality resolution. On the right-hand side of the 8K HL Zone, an informative panel is set up to inform visitors about the 8K QLED’s AI features. The 8K AI Upscaling capabilities use machine learning to upscale your content to near 8K standards. Visitors can compare 4K and upscaling 8K picture quality: details not previously visible in at 4K resolution are now rendered vividly present. Comparing the two resolutions of the same content side by side, you can clearly see how the upscaling feature optimizes textures and features so that they appear sharp and life-like, in comparison with the other resolutions which, next to 8K, appear pixelated and less vibrant.

Smarter Lifestyle, Meaningful Screens: Perfect Solutions

Moving along to the Living Room section, visitors can peruse the multitude of Samsung’s solutions to keeping your television and living space as aesthetically pleasing as possible, such as the One Invisible Connection.

Across from this presentation space is the Ambient Mode Zone, offering the ultimate in complementary smart TV design. With Ambient Mode, Samsung presents a rebuttal to the notion that TVs are useless once switched off by enabling users to customize the ‘off’ screen with pictures, weather updates, soothing patterns – and, as demonstrated to visitors in the Ambient Mode Zone, even existing wallpaper patterns for seamless design consistency.

Just next to this Ambient Mode display is the Contest booth, showcasing the finalist designs for this year’s exciting competition put on by Samsung and design magazine Dezeen to create the next Ambient Mode lifestyle screen options, conceptualized by users themselves. The competition’s grand prize winner is to be announced here at IFA, with shortlisted works on display at Ambient Mode Contest booth.

Directly across from the Ambient Mode presentations is The Frame 2018, a game-changer in the lifestyle TV category. Visitors are enjoying the latest improvements to The Frame’s beloved art display features, with various screens showcasing the ‘Slideshow’ function, which changes the display content automatically on user-set time patterns. The ‘Favorite’ feature can highlight and prioritize the most-viewed artwork so that users can view their favorite contents, displayed in crystal-clear quality. The variety of content options offered by The Frame has also expanded to feature over 850 iconic pieces of art, with new artworks available on the Frame’s Art Store from such revered collections as the Tate, London, and the Uffizi, Florence.

Coming now to the very front of the visual display section, and the end of our tour, we reach the Wall – the zenith of display technology that goes beyond previous conception s of screen size, resolution and form limitations. Visitors to this presentation are experiencing the awe-inspiring picture quality and definition of the 146-inch screen with a module-based, bezel-less design and MicroLED technology. MicroLED technology emits color and light without color filters and backlights, and ultra-low reflection black technology and HDR10+ further contributes to the most vivid, life-like image quality to date.

Visitors are taken aback by the luminosity of the Wall’s image quality, with none of the images – regardless of scale – losing their contrast or textures. Not a single detail or color point is compromised on this impressive display. The Wall is built with inorganic materials for excellent luminescence efficiency and durability, and is free from the burn-in. The Wall for B2B was launched in June this year, and this latest Wall will be released for home line next year.

Samsung Electronics announced today its partnership with the world’s finest audio systems company, Steinway Lyngdorf, for its next generation MicroLED display, ‘The Wall’. Samsung’s impressive display and Steinway Lyngdorf’s state-of-the-art sound system are a perfect combination that provides the ultimate viewing experience. First introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018, The Wall was one of the most talked-about displays of the show and continues to generate buzz within the industry.

“The Wall is Samsung’s latest symbol of true innovation,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through our partnership with Steinway Lyngdorf, we are pioneering a new name in display technology and delivering an unmatched, one-of-a-kind audiovisual experience.”

The first of its kind, The Wall provides superior color purity and accuracy, perfect viewing experience in both light and dark environments, and is more durable than conventional displays, all with less energy consumption. Its modular design is configurable and its 146-inch standard size is customizable without affecting performance or presentation quality.

The first audio company to create a fully digital amplifier in 1998, Steinway Lyngdorf is the perfect audio partner for The Wall. Steinway Lyngdorf’s audio system became the winner of the coveted “Editor’s Choice” award from The Absolute Sound magazine for six consecutive years. Their audio system includes a sound tuning service with RoomPerfect room correction, which is one of the world’s most sophisticated solutions for adapting the sound system to the environment.

Complementing Samsung’s extraordinary visuals is the exquisite sound from Steinway Lyngdorf’s freestanding Steinway & Sons Model B loudspeaker, which is paired with the new Steinway & Sons P100 surround sound processor. The Model B is a full-range dipole speaker finely-crafted to produce pure sound quality and lifelike musicality.

“Both products are made with one ultimate goal – to create the most realistic experience possible with today’s advanced display technology and the leading sound system design,” said Peter Lyngdorf, owner and founder of Steinway Lyngdorf. “By combining a state-of-the-art visual display with a refined audio system, Samsung and Steinway Lyngdorf delivers an enhanced sense of ‘being there’, and no cost was spared to achieve the ultimate experience.”

Samsung and Steinway Lyngdorf are exhibiting Steinway & Sons Model B speaker with The Wall Professional at InfoComm 2018, from June 6th to 8th. The Wall Professional, which is now available for pre-order, is geared toward both commercial and residential markets from premium indoor spaces, to media spaces and private cinemas.

When it comes to the state of the current TV market, it’s clear that consumers are after larger screens, a trend driven by rising income levels and changing consumer expectations. Recent years have seen the standard for what constitutes a large screen TV change. Whereas previously, large screen TVs were classified as measuring 55-inch. Now, that classification has crept up to TVs over 65- or 75- inch in size, with the super large category also now a category in its own right.

Rapid Growth of Large-sized TV Market

While growth in the overall global TV market has plateaued, sales of larger screen TVs 65-inch and over has grown by more than 30 percent in recent years. According to research firm IHS Markit, the market volume of 65-inch and over TVs was 8 million in 2016 and increased to 11.4 million in 2017. This year, market volume is expected to reach 16 million units.

The market for extra-large, or above 75-inch, TVs is expected to experience even more pronounced growth of 47% this year, a key reason why Samsung has made this segment a core focus area. In the first quarter of this year, the company’s global sales of 65-inch and larger TVs increased over 35% year over year. In the same period, sales of Samsung TVs in the South American market spiked nearly four times, and the demand for large-sized Samsung TVs almost doubled in Korea.

Almost Half of 75-inch TVs Sold Worldwide Made by Samsung

In 2017, Samsung Electronics maintained its top ranking in the worldwide TV market for the 12th consecutive year, with more than 20% market share last year.

Samsung’s presence is even more noticeable in the fast-growing, large-sized TV market. The company is leading the worldwide market of 65-inch and over TVs, with 31.1% share of total number of units sold and 34.1% share for total sales last year, according to IHS Markit.

The share is even higher for 75-inch and larger TVs, reaching up to 47.4% share based on number of units sold. This means that one out of every two extra-large TVs sold worldwide is a Samsung TV. The popularity of Samsung TVs is particularly noteworthy in Europe and Latin America, where the company holds almost 60% of market share.

For the overall 75-inch and larger TV market, there was almost three times sales growth in the first half of this year, as compared to the same period last year. To meet and hone in on the growing customer demand in this segment, Samsung has strengthened its 75-inch and larger TV lineup in the four series lines (Q6F, Q7F, Q8C, Q9F) of the 2018 QLED TV portfolio.

QLED Leads Larger TV Market with Aims to Double its Growth

Samsung’s 2018 QLED TV lineup has received strong reception since its global launch in March this year, for example experiencing a sevenfold increase in number of units sold in the first four weeks following launch in the United States compared to last year. In China and South Korea, sales volume doubled in the first quarter of 2018, compared to the fourth quarter of last year.

Samsung will continue its growth in both sales and innovation involving QLED TV. Samsung’s 2018 QLED TV lineup has incorporated various additional functions to optimize high-resolution content for a very large screen, delivering a mesmerizing, immersive experience. Among other standout features, Samsung’s QLED TV is the world’s only TV delivering 100% color volume, and has been upgraded with technologies such as ‘Anti-reflection’ so users can enjoy pure blacks without reflection. ‘HDR 2000’ enhances the level of brightness and expressed detail, and 4K Q Engine, automatically upscales content to 4K resolution, optimizing the content for the big screen.

Samsung QLED TV has also been designed with convenience in mind and reflecting consumer needs with features such as artificial intelligence based on Bixby and SmartThings App, the One Invisible Connection that combines complex connection lines into a single cable, and Ambient mode which enables the TV to depict images and information, even when the TV is off.

“With the very full major sporting events line up this year, including 2018 World Cup Russia and the Asian Games, we expect the demand for large-sized TVs to grow rapidly,” said Jongsuk Chu, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics. “This year, for QLED TVs, we aim to double growth, as well as continue our leadership in the global TV market by driving the ultra-large TV market.”

Samsung Electronics has been the world’s number one TV manufacturer for 12 consecutive years now. During that time, Samsung TVs have continuously raised the bar when it comes to design, color accuracy and image quality, offering consumers increasingly more immersive and enjoyable viewing experiences.

In 2006, the beginning of Samsung’s market-leading run, the company laid the foundation for a new era of TV design with the unveiling of the Bordeaux, an LCD display with an elegant, wine glass-inspired form. Since then, Samsung TVs have become synonymous for pairing refined designs, like the Bordeaux’s, with first-of-their-kind innovations that take the viewing experience to new heights.

For example, in 2009, Samsung launched the world’s first edge-lit LED TV, which, in addition to being incredibly thin, introduced consumers to a new level of picture quality. That groundbreaking development was followed up, in 2010, by the world’s first 3D LED TV, which opened the door to a world of immersive 3D entertainment. That same year, Samsung unveiled the world’s first smart TV app store, and in 2011, the company launched Smart Hub, its intuitive smart TV user interface.

Other pioneering developments that demonstrate Samsung’s position ahead of the curve include the launches of the world’s first OLED TV, in 2013, and the first curved and bendable UHD TVs, in 2014.

Samsung’s new QLED TVs represent the pinnacle of this innovative history. The TVs’ combination of premium aesthetics and lifelike visuals has prompted many consumers to rethink how they assess a TV’s immersive qualities.

Featuring new Bixby integration and powered by quantum dot technology, QLED TVs offer a viewing experience defined by seamless controls and immersive visuals. The TVs’ ability to provide 100 percent color volume enables them to produce much brighter and deeper colors, allowing content to be displayed in the manner that producers intended.

QLED TV’s engrossing visuals are complemented by a minimalist design that eliminates distractions to enable users to be utterly immersed in their content. This aspect of the design is bolstered by both the One Invisible Connection, which seamlessly combines the AV and power cords, as well as those of peripheral devices, into a single, transparent cable, and the new Ambient Mode, which allows the TVs to display ambient images that enable them to seamlessly blend in with their surroundings.

Going forward, Samsung will continue to innovate with exciting TV technologies that will foster even more enriching and immersive viewing experiences. These include quantum dots, as well as the self-emitting MicroLED modules that the company debuted at CES 2018. Look forward to more updates on that milestone development in the latter half of this year.

A business-ready variation of one of CES 2018’s most talked-about consumer displays, The Wall Professional’s modular design allows for customized configurations beyond or below its 146-inch size standard. Users can add or remove unlimited LED screens to and from The Wall Professional without impacting performance or presentation quality. The display’s self-emitting MicroLED pixel modules produce brilliant imagery free of color filters or backlighting and envelop viewers through elevated peak brightness (up to 1,600nit) and a near infinite contrast ratio.

The Wall Professional builds upon its consumer counterpart with the integration of Samsung’s MagicInfo content management platform. Within MagicInfo, users can create, schedule and deploy content across a single Wall Professional display or Wall Professional display network from any location. The platform also provides complete display performance visibility for immediate error detection and troubleshooting.

3D Cinema LED: A Star-Studded Sequel

ISE 2018 attendees will be the first to see the next evolution of Samsung’s pioneering cinema display technology with the debut of the world’s first 3D Cinema LED screen. This enhanced display maintains consistent brightness to deliver subtitle text, images and even minor visual details with unprecedented accuracy, even while viewers wear 3D glasses. Unlike standard 3D cinemas with more limited visual reach, the Samsung 3D Cinema LED screen delivers these quality-enhancing benefits throughout the entire theater, ensuring that all movie-goers enjoy the same immersive viewing experience.

This 3D film accommodation marks a significant advancement upon the initial Samsung Cinema LED screen model. First introduced in March 2017, Samsung’s High Dynamic Range (HDR) Cinema LED Screen surpasses the capabilities of legacy screen-and-projector operations to deliver superior visual quality, technical performance and reliability for theaters and their guests.

Intelligent UHD Signage: A Consistent UHD Presentation

Samsung’s new QM (450nit brightness) and QB Series (350nit brightness) Intelligent UHD displays foster a next-level content experience thanks to an integrated conversion engine that automatically upgrades FHD materials to sharper, clearer UHD quality. As a result, business users can achieve bolder and more brilliant message delivery without the need for manual picture presetting. The Intelligent UHD displays’ Optimal Color Mode also intuitively adjusts picture quality to match usage and visibility trends.

The QM and QB Series displays also simplify the content delivery and maintenance processes for various forms of implementation. Each enclosed, wall-mounted Intelligent UHD display provides a centralized infrared receiver (Center IR) for user-friendly control and management. For added durability, the Intelligent UHD displays also undergo rigorous IP5x certification to maintain performance even when exposed to dust, dirt and other potentially hazardous environmental variables.

IF-D Series LED Signage: A Creative and Clear Content Center

Samsung’s fine pixel-pitch IF-D Series LED Signage invites booth visitors to explore new opportunities to deliver stunning and inspiring content within customizable, easy-to-manage formats. The IF-D Series displays align Samsung’s market-best video processing tools with HDR picture refinement to produce visuals that shine even against white or dark backgrounds. This combination elevates peak brightness levels (2,400nit) and initiates scene-by-scene gradation and optimization through Scene Adaptive HDR technology.

For additional eye-catching impact, businesses can configure the IF-D Series LED displays in a range of traditional and unconventional formats. The IF-D Series’ design flexibility includes curved compositions, with concave and convex implementations.

Samsung Flip Display: Flip the Future of Collaboration

Fresh off a successful debut at CES 2018, Samsung will also formally introduce its Samsung Flip interactive digital flip chart to the European market at ISE 2018. The Samsung Flip centralizes and expands collaborative capabilities within any business environment, eliminating the frustrations of the modern meeting and fostering more productive interaction.

The interactive display captured two 2018 Top New Technology (TNT) Awards, emerging victorious in the program’s Commercial Digital Signage Solutions: Hardware and Commercial Digital Signage Solutions: Software categories. Sponsored by CE Pro, Commercial Integrator, Essential Install and TechDecisions, and distributed annually at the start of ISE, the TNT Awards call attention to the top new technologies in the commercial, professional and residential integration spaces.

Perhaps one of the most attention-garnering products unveiled by Samsung Electronics at CES 2018 is its 146-inch The Wall, the world’s first modular display. Featuring a number of display technology advancements, The Wall is set to usher in the future of displays by providing an unsurpassed viewing experience while seamlessly integrating into consumers’ lives – and living rooms.

The Wall’s true innovation lies in its incorporation of brand-new, self-emitting display technology that clusters numerous MicroLED chips and removes the need for color filters altogether. This advanced technology allows the screen to outperform existing displays in just about every aspect of picture quality. Offering the truest natural colors and improved response time, The Wall provides an entirely new viewing experience.

Furthermore, The Wall’s module-based and bezel-less design, which is capable of reaching over 100 inches, enables consumers to easily customize their display size to align with their style preferences and living environment. Each 9.37-inch module seamlessly integrates with the next without altering the display’s fine-tuned MicroLED structure. Therefore, users always get optimum picture quality and resolution no matter how big they decide to build their screen.

Just ahead of CES 2018, Samsung Electronics debuted its new 146-inch modular display, The Wall, at a product unveiling on January 7 at the Enclave event venue in Las Vegas.

The world’s first modular TV for consumers, The Wall is a MicroLED display that features self-emitting technology as well as a bezel-less, modular-based structure that can be customized to fit into any home environment.

JH Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, hosted the event, and explained in his opening remarks that the introduction of the company’s breakthrough display and its features is a first step to bring to life Samsung’s vision to make screens “the center of everyday life.”

Nevertheless, as Dave Das, Senior Vice President at Samsung Electronics America, noted, The Wall and its enhancements in picture quality and design are only one example of how Samsung is working “to redefine the possibilities of television, and let you do what you couldn’t do before.” Other innovations include Samsung’s new artificial intelligence (AI) technology for 8K content and improved Smart TV features, which were also showcased at the event.

MicroLED Technology for an Unprecedented TV Experience

Made possible by Samsung’s advancements in semiconductor processing techniques and LED technology, the pixel LED modules of The Wall’s self-emitting technology are smaller than ever before, and each chip incorporates RGB color. As a result, The Wall’s self-emitting technology removes the need for color filters altogether and is able to deliver up to 2000 nits of peak brightness, brighter white hues, darker black shades and the truest natural colors.

Additionally, its bezel-less design enables the individual modules of The Wall to fit together seamlessly, removing limitations to screen size and making it difficult to tell where the screen ends and the wall begins.

Event attendees eagerly await the unveiling of Samsung’s breakthrough display, The Wall.

“Screens should not be limited by size or space. Instead, they should be able to blend into any home,” said Han, referring to Samsung’s vision for the future of displays.

The Wall is debuted on the First Look stage.

With its bezel-less modular design, consumers can build their TV to reach over 100 inches, extending the screen size to larger-than-life levels.

Because the pixels of Samsung’s MicroLED modules (right) are much smaller than those of conventional LED displays (left), they’re able to provide a much more vivid and detailed picture.

A Smarter and More Advanced Technology for the Future Display

The Wall offers superlative picture quality and can be extended to just about any size or shape. But to complete the viewing experience, it also needs high-resolution content. That’s why Samsung’s 85-inch 2018 QLED TV is equipped with AI technology which transforms all pictures into 8K high-quality content by adjusting the algorithm in the display based on a user’s prior experiences.

At the event, participants were also able to experience the latest TV technologies such as Samsung’s HDR 10+ platform, the enhanced smart features and HDR gaming capabilities.

Samsung’s 8K QLED TVs feature image-upscaling AI technology that makes pictures appear more detailed and vibrant than they would on a 4K display.

Samsung’s new TV lineup enhances the gaming experience by offering optimum low input lag and incredibly fast frame rate conversions.

Now accessible on the Smart TV platform, Samsung SmartThings will enable users to automatically detect and connect their Samsung smart products and hundreds of other devices to create a truly integrated home experience.
