Samsung Electronics today announced that the company is working with NVIDIA to advance AI-RAN technologies. The collaboration underscores Samsung’s commitment to fostering a robust ecosystem and diversifying the computing platforms available. This endeavor aims to support a smooth and easy adoption of AI in mobile networks by expanding the ecosystem of Central Processing Unit (CPU) and bolstering partnerships with Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) companies.

To maximize and bring the power of AI into Radio Access Networks (RAN), Samsung has made significant technological progress leveraging its in-house AI and radio expertise since the beginning of 2024. One of the pivotal milestones achieved was the interoperability between Samsung’s O-RAN compliant virtualized RAN (vRAN) and NVIDIA’s accelerated computing, which took place in Samsung Research’s lab in late last year. Samsung has successfully demonstrated a proof-of-concept to verify how NVIDIA’s accelerated computing can be seamlessly integrated into software-based networks to help enhance AI capabilities.

This achievement further solidifies Samsung’s strides in moving ahead with its unique innovation of combining AI and RAN. With the baseline, Samsung can seamlessly deliver AI-RAN by integrating its vRAN (virtualized Distributed Unit, vDU) with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing into a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) server where Samsung’s vRAN software is installed.

▲ At Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, Samsung showcased its real-world vRAN combined with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing.

In addition, the companies will continue to explore the best-of-breed combinations of AI-RAN options leveraging Samsung vRAN with NVIDIA’s Grace CPU and/or GPU based AI platform using Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) technologies. All of these are optimal for each network deployment environment — from rural, sub-urban to dense urban.

At MWC 2025, Samsung presented its leadership in AI-For-RAN innovations, as exemplified through two AI-RAN demonstrations, endorsed by the AI-RAN Alliance and developed in collaboration with various members including NVIDIA. The demonstrations included AI-based physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) estimation and non-uniform modulation, showing a glimpse in innovative ways to infuse AI into mobile networks.

▲ (From left) NVIDIA Senior Vice President for Telecom Ronnie Vasishta and Samsung Electronics Executive Vice President & Head of R&D June Moon

“While AI is reshaping the telecommunications landscape, Samsung is helping operators to build the right network architecture and environment where AI can thrive, all powered by our proven and AI-powered vRAN,” said June Moon, Executive Vice President, Head of R&D, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics. “This collaboration with NVIDIA signifies our continued efforts to expand GPU and CPU ecosystem, and we look forward to exploring more possibilities in the future.”

“AI-RAN is a critical technology that delivers transformative gains in network utilization, efficiency and performance, while enabling new AI services,” said Ronnie Vasishta, Senior Vice President for Telecom at NVIDIA. “Samsung is a frontrunner in AI-RAN development. Their vRAN expertise and software integrated with the NVIDIA’s AI accelerated computing will accelerate the path to AI-native wireless networks.”

As one of the founding members of the AI-RAN Alliance forged in 2024, Samsung is actively participating in advancing AI-RAN technologies with academic institutions and industry leaders like NVIDIA. As an elected Vice Chair of Board of Directors as well as the Working Group #3 (AI-on-RAN), Samsung is leading industry towards AI-powered next-generation networks.

Samsung’s end-to-end software-based network architecture is the optimal foundation to easily deploy and adopt AI across every layer of the network. As such, Samsung can empower operators with its flexible networks and sharpen their competitive edge to stay at the front of the AI era. This advancement opens doors for utilizing network infrastructure not only for mobile communications but also for processing general workloads, providing a data center-like network architecture that will present new business opportunities.

Samsung has pioneered the successful delivery of 5G end-to-end solutions, including chipsets, radios and cores. Through ongoing research and development, Samsung drives the industry to advance 5G networks with its market-leading product portfolio, from vRAN 3.0, Open RAN, core to private network solutions and AI-powered automation tools and applications. The company currently provides innovative network solutions to mobile operators and enterprises that deliver boundless connectivity to hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

▲ The slim 7.4mm profile combined with the flat frame and key island design offers a firm, comfortable grip when held.

2. Versatile and Intelligent — Fueled by Awesome Intelligence

Searching Made Simple With Circle to Search

Circle to Search makes finding information effortless. All users need to do is long press the home button , then draw a circle around anything interesting they see on their screen and watch in awe as Google provides relevant search results in an instant.

▲ Circle to Search makes image searching a breeze.

And it’s not just for images! Circle to Search now recognizes music as well — for example, the background music playing in a video. When watching something on YouTube, simply long press the home button. Then tap the music button to instantly find the name of the song featured in the video and the artist who sings it. That same song can be identified even when sung or hummed by a person, instead of being played from the video’s original audio.

▲ Circle to Search can also recognize and identify music in an instant.

3. Picture-Perfect — Smarter Camera Features and Photo-Editing Tools

Nightography and Object Eraser — Flawless Selfies Even at Night

Imagine taking in the atmosphere during a nighttime walk and snapping a selfie, only to be disappointed by the noise in the final image. Or perhaps a scenario where a countless number of selfies had to be taken before realizing none of them quite achieved the right look. With the enhanced Nightography feature on the Galaxy A56 5G, those frustrations are a thing of the past. Clear, vibrant selfies can be captured even at night with a 12MP front camera optimized to reduce noise and deliver smoother results.

Unwanted objects in the background can take away from the perfect selfie as well. Simply trace around those objects to remove them, and Object Eraser will seamlessly fill in the space where they originally were to blend naturally with the background, resulting in a clean, crisp photo.

▲ Clear, vibrant selfies can be taken even at night with Nightography.

Custom Camera Filters for Standout Selfies

Some portrait photos on social media just have that one vibe, an unmistakable look hard to find anywhere else. Instead of scrolling past those images, why not save them? With the Filters feature, users can easily create their own custom camera filters using saved images. Achieving the perfect selfie with the desired aesthetic has never been easier.

▲ The Filters feature provides users with custom camera filters.

Best Face — Perfect Group Photos Everyone Will Love

Group selfies don’t always go as planned — someone could be blinking or have an awkward expression on their face. But with the Best Face feature, those slip-ups are an easy fix. Best Face analyzes the multiple frames of pictures taken using Motion Photo to recommend the best ones. All that is left for Galaxy A56 5G users to do afterwards is simply browse through the suggested frames and select a flawless group selfie where everyone looks their best.

4. Powerful and Secure — Enhanced Privacy Safeguards

The Galaxy A56 5G and A36 5G are the first in the Galaxy A series to feature One UI 7, offering more robust security than ever before. One key highlight is the hardware-backed Knox Vault, which combines a secure processor with secure memory to isolate users’ most sensitive data — like personal identification numbers (PINs) and passwords — from the rest of their device and ensure that no one else can physically or remotely access them. The new smartphones also come equipped with a range of extensive security innovations, including an enhanced Auto Blocker — Galaxy’s opt-in package of security measures that prevents unauthorized app installations and other security threats — and the new Theft Protection feature, which ensures personal data is protected even when devices are lost or stolen.

Samsung also promises six years of security updates along with up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades for the Galaxy A56 5G and A36 5G, ensuring a secure and reliable mobile experience for years to come.

The Galaxy A series is back with cutting-edge innovations. With the Awesome Intelligence-integrated Galaxy A56 5G and A36 5G, Samsung looks forward to seeing even more people enjoy an Awesome lifestyle.

Galaxy AI Tech Forum: The Future of Human-Centric AI

On March 4, panelists explored the future of mobile AI during a Galaxy AI Tech Forum session titled “Human-Centric AI for a True AI Companion: Overcoming Barriers and What’s Next.”

Patrick Chomet, Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics; Christopher Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handsets at Qualcomm; Dr. Chris Brauer, Director of Innovation in the Institute of Management Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London, and Chief Innovation Officer at Symmetry; and moderator Ben Wood, Chief Analyst and Chief Marketing Officer at CCS Insight, discussed human-centric AI, the role of mobile technology in shaping consumers’ daily lives and key barriers to AI adoption.

▲ Galaxy AI Tech Forum

“Millions of users are already experiencing Galaxy AI on their devices,” said Wood, opening the conversation on consumer sentiment toward AI evolution and the industry’s efforts to deliver meaningful experiences. “The launch of the Galaxy S25 series introduced even more ways to integrate AI into daily life.”

▲ Ben Wood from CCS Insight

The Galaxy S25 series harnesses multimodal AI-based agent experiences to elevate personalization to new heights. However, there is still work to be done to understand what consumers need from AI to make it a truly meaningful part of their everyday lives.

“While AI technology becomes faster, more powerful and more capable, we’re evolving too — as people and as consumers,” said Chomet. “Neither exists in a vacuum, and our role is to ensure that Galaxy AI evolves alongside our users to empower them without overwhelming or leaving them behind.”

▲ Patrick Chomet from Samsung Electronics

The panelists shared personal anecdotes about how Galaxy AI and the Galaxy S25 series are redefining everyday life before shifting focus to the barriers to AI adoption. “Despite the rise in AI adoption, we identified three key global barriers — lack of confidence in using AI, privacy concerns and doubts about its practical benefits,” explained Dr. Brauer, citing findings from a global study conducted in partnership with Samsung and Symmetry.

While barriers to AI adoption undeniably exist, there are also clear drivers motivating those who use or are willing to use AI. Nearly half of users cite productivity as a key factor, recognizing AI’s potential to streamline tasks and boost efficiency. Additionally, 40% are drawn to AI for creative pursuits, while about a quarter of users believe it will foster new social connections. Building trust and confidence in these benefits will be essential to helping users view AI as a tool for empowerment.

▲ Dr. Chris Brauer from Goldsmiths, University of London, and Symmetry

“AI experiences developed in collaboration with Samsung allow for more powerful, seamless interactions,” said Patrick, emphasizing Qualcomm’s close collaboration with Samsung. “This is how we continue to introduce AI in a way that feels accessible to consumers who may be more hesitant.”

“From my perspective, on-device AI and powerful performance — driven by partnership between Samsung and Qualcomm — are central to truly optimized AI,” he continued. “Data privacy remains a top priority in our ongoing collaboration with Samsung, and we’ve made significant advancements in enabling advanced AI processing entirely on the device.”

▲ Christopher Patrick from Qualcomm

The discussion concluded with insights into the development of the Galaxy S25 series and the future of mobile AI.

“Human-centric AI is the cornerstone of Galaxy AI. At the center of every new feature or experience is one thing — the user,” said Chomet, reaffirming Samsung’s commitment to a user-centric approach. “Our goal is to create an experience that feels second nature to users. They shouldn’t need to be technical experts to access all Galaxy AI has to offer.”

▲ (From left to right) Dr. Chris Brauer, Christopher Patrick, Patrick Chomet and Ben Wood

The S25 Camera Briefing and Galaxy AI Tech Forum at MWC 2025 provided a glimpse into the next-generation mobile experiences powered by the Galaxy S25 series. Samsung is shaping a future where mobile devices transcend functionality, becoming intelligent companions that enhance how users create, connect and engage with the world.

Samsung Electronics today announced that the company has successfully completed the industry’s first end-to-end Reduced Capability (RedCap) trial over a private 5G network with Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai Motor), a global leader in smart mobility solutions. This trial highlights the potential of next-generation industrial private 5G connectivity, and will be showcased at the Samsung booth during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025.

The achievement of this industry-first RedCap end-to-end testing follows Samsung’s successful deployment of the private 5G network in Hyundai Motor’s major manufacturing facility last October. The companies have been working together to transform Hyundai Motor’s Ulsan Plant ― the world’s single largest automobile plant, which produces an average of 6,000, vehicles per day ― as a part of their smart factory innovation.

With Samsung, Hyundai Motor has launched an advanced private 5G network to connect and efficiently manage numerous devices and manufacturing systems across its plant, ensuring real-time data upload and download. A high-performance network with reliable connectivity is crucial for automotive manufacturers to control and optimize smart factory automation systems, as well as properly operate their manufacturing systems and Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), which deliver parts to the designated production lines.

▲ The companies have completed end-to-end RedCap test with Samsung’s private 5G solutions and Hyundai Motor’s Diagnostic SCAN (D Scan) equipment for vehicle inspection.

Industry-First End-to-End RedCap Trial on a Samsung-Powered Private 5G Network

As of January, the companies have carried out end-to-end RedCap technology tests at Samsung’s private 5G network testbed, located at its R&D Center. It was aimed to verify RedCap capabilities and integrated performance across the whole network from vehicle inspection terminal to private 5G core, radios and management system. For this trial, Samsung used its RedCap-powered private 5G network solutions including its virtualized 5G Core, baseband units, radios supporting 4.7 GHz band, and an integrated Network Management System.

The trial also focused on integrating Hyundai Motor’s Diagnostic Scan (D Scan) featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon® X35 5G Modem-RF System into Samsung’s private 5G network. This device is developed by Hyundai Motor to be used at its smart factories via wireless communications between vehicles and D Scan to automatically inspect and efficiently determine whether vehicles have been assembled correctly before releasing finished cars. Compared to the old Wi-Fi system, the companies achieved a more seamless, real-time inspection data transmission with high speed and reliable 5G connectivity.

This successful collaboration is another milestone Samsung and Hyundai Motor are marking, as Hyundai Motor plans to continuously expand RedCap private 5G networks to its newest electric vehicle manufacturing facilities to begin their operation in the first half of 2026.

At its smart factories, a range of small devices are in operation ― sensors, cameras, tablet PCs, automatic logistics robots, compact wireless tools and testing equipment ― which make RedCap on a private 5G network a key driver for cost-effective, efficient and intelligent network automation and monitoring.

RedCap is considered a catalyst for the widespread adoption of private 5G networks at manufacturing facilities, construction sites, academic campuses and more. This technology streamlines 5G connectivity for small-size 5G IoT (IoST) devices such as industrial sensors and wearables by lowering complexity and more importantly, increasing battery life while still ensuring the desired data speeds.

“The recent collaboration with Hyundai Motor represents how the two leaders in their respective industries can creatively drive business innovation and unlock new real use cases by merging best-in-class expertise,” said Simon Lee, Vice President and Head of B2B·B2G Business Development, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung’s RedCap-powered private 5G network solutions will open up more possibilities for enterprises, manufacturers and public institutions, serving as a gateway to driving more efficient 5G networks.”

“Hyundai Motor was the first Korean company to implement P-5G in mass production,” said Jae Min Lee, Vice President and Head of E-FOREST Center of Hyundai Motor and Kia. “We are also the industry’s first to verify P-5G RedCap technology, reinforcing our global leadership in smart manufacturing solutions. We will continue to accelerate its commercialization.”

“The adoption of RedCap technology will empower private 5G networks to be more efficient and cost-effective, by allowing for devices with smaller form factors, longer battery life and reduced power consumption.” said Pablo Tomasi, Principal Analyst, Private Networks at Omdia. “Thanks to RedCap, private 5G networks will support an increasingly large set of use cases.”

Samsung continues to actively deliver private 5G networks across a range of verticals, including smart factories, hospitals, universities and construction sites, on top of military facilities and local government agencies. With a proven record in commercial deployments, Samsung provides a comprehensive, end-to-end solution backed by long-term R&D leadership.

Also at MWC 2025, Samsung will unveil its innovative next-generation private 5G network, which leverages the company’s virtualization leadership. Supporting current compact and light hardware-based solutions, Samsung will introduce software-centric private 5G solutions – including vRAN software and other software applications on commercial servers (COTS).
