Samsung Electronics today announced that the company has successfully completed the industry’s first end-to-end Reduced Capability (RedCap) trial over a private 5G network with Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai Motor), a global leader in smart mobility solutions. This trial highlights the potential of next-generation industrial private 5G connectivity, and will be showcased at the Samsung booth during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025.

The achievement of this industry-first RedCap end-to-end testing follows Samsung’s successful deployment of the private 5G network in Hyundai Motor’s major manufacturing facility last October. The companies have been working together to transform Hyundai Motor’s Ulsan Plant ― the world’s single largest automobile plant, which produces an average of 6,000, vehicles per day ― as a part of their smart factory innovation.

With Samsung, Hyundai Motor has launched an advanced private 5G network to connect and efficiently manage numerous devices and manufacturing systems across its plant, ensuring real-time data upload and download. A high-performance network with reliable connectivity is crucial for automotive manufacturers to control and optimize smart factory automation systems, as well as properly operate their manufacturing systems and Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), which deliver parts to the designated production lines.

▲ The companies have completed end-to-end RedCap test with Samsung’s private 5G solutions and Hyundai Motor’s Diagnostic SCAN (D Scan) equipment for vehicle inspection.

Industry-First End-to-End RedCap Trial on a Samsung-Powered Private 5G Network

As of January, the companies have carried out end-to-end RedCap technology tests at Samsung’s private 5G network testbed, located at its R&D Center. It was aimed to verify RedCap capabilities and integrated performance across the whole network from vehicle inspection terminal to private 5G core, radios and management system. For this trial, Samsung used its RedCap-powered private 5G network solutions including its virtualized 5G Core, baseband units, radios supporting 4.7 GHz band, and an integrated Network Management System.

The trial also focused on integrating Hyundai Motor’s Diagnostic Scan (D Scan) featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon® X35 5G Modem-RF System into Samsung’s private 5G network. This device is developed by Hyundai Motor to be used at its smart factories via wireless communications between vehicles and D Scan to automatically inspect and efficiently determine whether vehicles have been assembled correctly before releasing finished cars. Compared to the old Wi-Fi system, the companies achieved a more seamless, real-time inspection data transmission with high speed and reliable 5G connectivity.

This successful collaboration is another milestone Samsung and Hyundai Motor are marking, as Hyundai Motor plans to continuously expand RedCap private 5G networks to its newest electric vehicle manufacturing facilities to begin their operation in the first half of 2026.

At its smart factories, a range of small devices are in operation ― sensors, cameras, tablet PCs, automatic logistics robots, compact wireless tools and testing equipment ― which make RedCap on a private 5G network a key driver for cost-effective, efficient and intelligent network automation and monitoring.

RedCap is considered a catalyst for the widespread adoption of private 5G networks at manufacturing facilities, construction sites, academic campuses and more. This technology streamlines 5G connectivity for small-size 5G IoT (IoST) devices such as industrial sensors and wearables by lowering complexity and more importantly, increasing battery life while still ensuring the desired data speeds.

“The recent collaboration with Hyundai Motor represents how the two leaders in their respective industries can creatively drive business innovation and unlock new real use cases by merging best-in-class expertise,” said Simon Lee, Vice President and Head of B2B·B2G Business Development, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung’s RedCap-powered private 5G network solutions will open up more possibilities for enterprises, manufacturers and public institutions, serving as a gateway to driving more efficient 5G networks.”

“Hyundai Motor was the first Korean company to implement P-5G in mass production,” said Jae Min Lee, Vice President and Head of E-FOREST Center of Hyundai Motor and Kia. “We are also the industry’s first to verify P-5G RedCap technology, reinforcing our global leadership in smart manufacturing solutions. We will continue to accelerate its commercialization.”

“The adoption of RedCap technology will empower private 5G networks to be more efficient and cost-effective, by allowing for devices with smaller form factors, longer battery life and reduced power consumption.” said Pablo Tomasi, Principal Analyst, Private Networks at Omdia. “Thanks to RedCap, private 5G networks will support an increasingly large set of use cases.”

Samsung continues to actively deliver private 5G networks across a range of verticals, including smart factories, hospitals, universities and construction sites, on top of military facilities and local government agencies. With a proven record in commercial deployments, Samsung provides a comprehensive, end-to-end solution backed by long-term R&D leadership.

Also at MWC 2025, Samsung will unveil its innovative next-generation private 5G network, which leverages the company’s virtualization leadership. Supporting current compact and light hardware-based solutions, Samsung will introduce software-centric private 5G solutions – including vRAN software and other software applications on commercial servers (COTS).

Samsung has pioneered the successful delivery of 5G end-to-end solutions, including chipsets, radios and cores. Through ongoing research and development, Samsung drives the industry to advance 5G networks with its market-leading product portfolio, from vRAN 3.0, Open RAN, core to private network solutions and AI-powered automation tools and applications. The company currently provides innovative network solutions to mobile operators and enterprises that deliver boundless connectivity to hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

The evolution of mobile network technology has changed our lives gradually and dramatically. Such progress has seeped into our everyday lives and changed the way we communicate, spend our free time, and how we work.

Until the year 2010, communication was mostly voice and text-based. Over the past 13 years, we’ve seen consistent technology advancements from 4G to 5G and beyond, and we’re now able to enjoy ultra-high-definition, large-capacity multimedia content, anytime, anywhere.

Mobile network technology has redefined the cultural landscape of connections at all levels — between people to people, business to business and industry to industry.

Software Is at the Heart of Mobile Network Evolution, Moving Toward Virtualization

At Samsung, we have been focused on identifying the key technology that will drive mobile network transformation and we think the answer is software.

Venture capitalist Marc Andreessen once said, “software is eating the world.” Just like this famous phrase, global industries are being ‘eaten’ by software and this dynamic transition is called ‘virtualization’ in the network infrastructure world. Whereas hardware is the foundation for traditional networks, virtualization is all about shifting to software.

Virtualization lets you transform many hardware functions and features into software, allowing various services to run on a single hardware platform. Simply put, it works similar to downloading and regularly updating a range of apps on your smartphone.

vRAN Will Eat up the Network Infrastructure World

Samsung has been spearheading the shift toward network virtualization and openness. We introduced the first fully virtualized Radio Access Network also known as vRAN. Although vRAN currently accounts for just 3 percent1 of the global RAN market, it is a pioneering technology that the industry is watching closely.

Samsung has been a forerunner in the innovative path to vRAN, proving our outstanding performance and wide-scale commercialization capabilities in the real-world, leading expansion in major 5G markets, including Asia, Europe and North America.

We supported the largest-scale commercial vRAN for the first time in the world with Verizon in 2020, and since then, have been providing stable and reliable 5G services to millions of customers. We also began our collaboration with DISH Wireless and Vodafone Group, actively expanding our vRAN footprint to new markets, including the U.K., Germany and beyond.

With the innovations that we are bringing to virtualization, we are creating the blueprint for next-generation networks. We are not only committed to advancing our technology, but more importantly, onboarding and growing the best software talents, which we believe is a central pillar to our achievements.

Samsung Networks Chipset: Packaging the Essence of Our Innovation and Technological Capabilities

The power of chipsets not only radiates through hardware-based networks, but also in software-centric virtualized architectures. While most functions and features are being turned into software, there are still integral parts of the network that remain as hardware. Therefore, the ability to pack advanced features into a tiny chipset is one of our invaluable asset.

Our competitive advantage stems from our unique combination of expertise in innovative software solutions and our comprehensive portfolio of hardware combined with our 5G network chipsets.

Samsung is the only major network vendor that has the capability to design, develop and manufacture 4G and 5G network chipsets in-house.

With the rising market demand for higher energy efficiency, as well as support for complex spectrum bands and reduced hardware footprint, there has been a stronger emphasis on chipset technologies.

Compared to previous generations, our latest 5G chipset reduces base station energy consumption by about 40 percent and antenna size by nearly half compared to previous products, and also includes support for multiple spectrum bands.

With a strong foundation built on over 40 years of experience in network technologies, we have managed to stay ahead of evolving market demands, introducing a compact and lightweight radio with high performance and energy efficiency.

Building a Better Tomorrow With Energy Savings Technology

The true value of innovation is not just about advancing technology, but it’s also about pursuing a better tomorrow. Ranging from software to AI and chipsets, sustainability has always been at the core of our product development strategy. Bringing our sustainability vision to life, we are introducing our newest energy saving features for vRAN at MWC this year.

As legendary hockey player Wayne Gretzky once said, “a good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.”

As we continue along our exciting journey, Samsung will always think a step ahead, anticipating future needs of our customers. And, as a pioneer in the mobile network industry, Samsung will continue to drive this paradigm shift by jumpstarting the next wave of unforeseen innovation.

With video calls now a part of everyday life, the Galaxy Book2 Pro series is upgraded for high-quality call experiences every time you connect. Now featuring 1080p FHD webcams and wider field of view angles,7 your video feed will look clear during every call. Studio Mode8 is also upgraded with a variety of new features, including Auto Framing, which keeps you perfectly centered even when you move around the frame. New background effects and Face Effect remove visual distractions from the background while enhancing your appearance, so you’ll look your best no matter where you video chat. To complete the video experience, GREENGUARD-certified AMOLED9 displays are now brighter10 for increased clarity.

Audio on the Galaxy Book Pro2 series is also enhanced for calls that sound just as good as they look. Bi-directional AI noise cancelling11 blocks distracting noises from both you and your colleague’s background, so every word is heard with full clarity. Additionally, the Max 5W output12 Smart Amp produces balanced sound at louder volumes. The Galaxy Book2 pro series also supports AKG and Dolby Atmos sound technology.

Furthermore, the newly added Samsung Device Care application included in the Galaxy Book2 Pro series now allows users to check their device efficiency and provides ways to optimize power and storage to ensure consistent performance throughout the lifespan of the device.

Seamless Continuity for the Connected World

The Galaxy Book2 Pro series offers a variety of connected experiences inside the Galaxy Ecosystem that eliminate friction in users’ daily lives. The new Galaxy Book Experience helps users get familiar with unique Galaxy features and transfers their content onto their new device. Through Single Sign-On with Samsung Account, users just need to enter their usernames and passwords once and instantly have access to Galaxy device apps and content including Samsung Gallery and Samsung Notes as well as have their Galaxy Galaxy Buds13 ready for pairing.

This new experience also takes users through the Galaxy Book Smart Switch14 process, helping them move old data, photos, settings and more, from their old PC regardless of manufacturer, to their new PC. And once transferred, the new Galaxy Book2 Pro series experience is more familiar than ever with the intuitive One UI Book 4. Users with other Galaxy devices will feel at home on their new PC with the same UI, apps and menus they’re already familiar with.

Furthermore, the Galaxy Book2 Pro series offers a variety of updates that make everyday interactions more seamless:

Link to Windows / Microsoft Your Phone,15 which pairs your Galaxy smartphone to your Galaxy Book2 Pro series device, now offers Recent Apps, allowing users to swipe up on their Windows 11 taskbar to check their smartphone’s status and even select their most recently used smartphone apps to use directly on their desktops.

With Samsung Multi control,16 you can use your Galaxy Book2 Pro series’ keyboard and trackpad while navigating on your Galaxy Tab S8 screen for seamless interactions across devices.

Private Share17 makes sharing sensitive work documents to colleagues easier than ever. It creates timed links with increased security options based on blockchain technology including view-only access, disabling screen capture abilities while viewing, and fully revoking access, so users keep the full control of their files even after sharing.

Now, Quick Share18 can be used to send large files with the new Link Sharing option, which generates an easily shareable link that recipients can access to quickly share content from PC to other devices.

The Galaxy Book2 Pro series also serves as the perfect hub for your SmartThings19-compatible devices. Turn on the lights, set the temperature or check your security cams all from the convenience of the SmartThings Dashboard. With the new Bixby20 voice control functionality, you can control your IoT devices with the convenience of voice prompts. Plus, with SmartThings Find,21 if a user misplaces their Galaxy Book2 Pro series device, they can quickly locate it even if it is currently turned off.

Galaxy for the Planet

Samsung understands the importance of producing technology in responsible and sustainable methods. The Galaxy Book2 Pro series advances Samsung’s ongoing commitment to minimize its environmental footprint and help Galaxy users adopt more sustainable lifestyles. Samsung recently announced a new high-performance, eco-conscious material that repurposes discarded fishing nets to reduce plastic waste in the ocean, and this material is now featured in the touchpad holder and the inner bracket of the Galaxy Book2 Pro series. Expanding the presence of ocean-bound plastics in Galaxy technology marks a notable achievement in the company’s sustainability journey. Through Galaxy for the Planet, Samsung is powering its scale, innovations and open collaborations to deliver tangible environmental actions across the MX Business and its entire product line-up to preserve the planet for generations to come.

Additionally, new algorithms extend the battery lifecycles and lower standby power reducing the need for frequent battery replacements. Furthermore, AMOLED panels received the GREENGUARD gold certification for eco-conscious products by the Underwriters Laboratories for minimizing VOC emissions for improved indoor air quality. Finally, the Galaxy Book2 Pro series’ packaging uses sustainably sourced paper boxes and mold trays.

Samsung Electronics today announced the release of Galaxy Book2 Business, a powerful new PC built on the vPro platform1 and packed with advanced security and productivity features to help businesses conquer the new reality of a hybrid work environment.

“We are in a new era where hybrid working is the norm,” said KC Choi, EVP and Head of Global Mobile B2B Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics. “Enterprises want to ensure their workforce can be their very best in this new environment, with technology that enables creativity, collaboration and productivity, while also protecting themselves from ever-increasing cyber threats. Galaxy Book2 Business is a PC designed for this hybrid world, empowering enterprises with defense-grade security, advanced productivity features and connected Galaxy experiences across devices and operating systems.”

Best-in-Class Security at Every Level

As remote work increased, so did cybersecurity threats. Enterprises focused on protecting employees working from home who can be more vulnerable to cyber risks but have limited access to the security tools and infrastructure available in the office. Galaxy Book2 Business helps secure the new hybrid work environment using Samsung’s defense-grade security technology, Intel Hardware Shield Technology, and secure embedded processor to protect BIOS. Galaxy Book2 Business is also equipped with a Tamper Alert function that detects and tracks malicious attempts to interfere with security-critical data and stop PC attacks before the operating system is infiltrated.

Galaxy Book2 Business is able to stop attempts to compromise its system by establishing a Hardware-based Root of Trust, which validates BIOS and builds a dependable trust chain between the CPU, secure embedded processor and SPI flash. Should Galaxy Book2 Business become the target of an attack, valuable data is secured with BIOS auto-recovery, which can detect threats during the PC’s boot process and automatically restore the BIOS to a backup copy before corruption strikes.

IT deployment and decentralized device management have never been more important for enterprises of all sizes, and Galaxy Book2 Business equips IT teams with added layers of protection and best-in-class support designed for today’s hybrid work environments. Galaxy Book2 Business PC built on Intel vPro ensures reliable, multi-level security and an Intel Hardware Shield that protects against hardware and OS attacks and reduces the chances of malware exploiting the OS. By monitoring both BIOS and OS levels, Galaxy Book2 Business helps enterprises evade attacks and keep sensitive data safe. Plus, Microsoft Secured-Core PC (SCPC) protects each device from kernel and firmware attacks, so malicious codes can’t corrupt the system.

Ultimate Productivity In and Out of the Office

Video calls have become routine and Galaxy Book2 Business delivers optimal performance tailor-made for hybrid meetings and work. Whether using video-conferencing apps such as Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Cisco Webex Meet, Studio Mode2 ensures every online meeting has a crisp, clean and professional feel. Auto Framing3 keeps the camera focused on the faces on-screen while Background Effects like blurred background and virtual office settings minimize distractions and enable employees to be the center of attention, even when taking calls from busy locations. Every Galaxy Book2 Business PC automatically filters static and background sounds, so voices come through clearly and every word is heard and understood.

When you’re in and out of back-to-back meetings, typing in your password to log back into your laptop can feel tedious. With Galaxy Book2 Business’ IR Camera, authorized users can log in with facial detection for easy access that saves time. Galaxy Book2 Business is also designed to keep up with rigorous work environments such as excessive altitudes, temperatures or humidity.

A Galaxy of Flexible, Connected Experiences

To keep up with today’s businesses, Galaxy Book2 Business offers the security solutions and connected power of the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem. Employees can use the Samsung Account Single Sign-On feature, which simplifies the authentication process by requiring credentials to be entered only once. Samsung’s new blockchain-based Private Share4 also gives enterprise customers the safest platform for encrypting and sharing confidential information. Employees can authorize access and set expiration dates for every file they send, so proprietary and privileged information stays classified. And should an employee misplace their Galaxy Book2 Business PC at any point, they can use Samsung’s SmartThings Find5 to search for their Galaxy devices and pinpoint the location of each one.

As part of the Galaxy ecosystem, Galaxy Book2 Business can sync with smartphone apps through Link to Windows6 to send texts and take calls using both devices. The crossover app continuity also enables users to select recently used phone apps and open them up on their Galaxy Book2 Business PC, so they can pick up right where they left off. Samsung has also updated its Quick Share7 feature and merged it with Link Sharing, so users can instantly and easily share work with others from anywhere.

Availability

Samsung Electronics and SK Telecom (SKT) announced they have successfully completed the industry’s first 5G-4G SA Option 4 (NE-DC, New Radio–E-UTRAN Dual Connectivity) trial in SKT’s 5G Standalone (5G SA) commercial network. SA Option 4 is a dual connectivity technology that connects both 5G and 4G radios to a 5G Core in advanced 5G SA mode, enabling operators to increase reliability and maximize their current network resources.

The two companies verified the 5G Option 4 technology at the SKT R&D Center to achieve the equal data speed as the NSA, using 175MHz of bandwidth, and also completed the verification of SA’s specialized functions. For this commercial field trial, SKT used Samsung’s 5G SA Core, 5G radios and 4G radios, which are already deployed across SKT’s 5G commercial networks.

5G Option 4 is a more advanced option than the existing 5G Standalone mode (SA Option 2) and provides the equivalent level of speed and quality as the NSA while utilizing the specialized functions of the SA Option 2 such as network slicing and the evolved 5G Core network.

SA Option 4 helps operators deliver innovative services including Urban Air Mobility (UAM), automated vehicles, remote control for heavy equipment, remote control robots and more. Network slicing creates multiple virtual networks within a single physical network infrastructure, optimizing network resources to meet specific performance needs for various services.

“While we supported the launch of the world’s first commercial 5G services in Korea, we are excited to continue spearheading the advancement of 5G through 5G SA technology, which will power innovative 5G services by leveraging the world-class LTE network that is well established in Korea,” said Jong-Kwan Park, Vice President and Head of 5GX Technology Group at SKT. “We will continue to expand our collaboration with industry leaders to continue driving this advanced technology and in growing this 5G SA ecosystem, to demonstrate new ways to tap the full potential of next-generation networks.”

“Through this commercial trial, Samsung is proud to collaborate with SKT to achieve another milestone in advancing 5G SA technology, demonstrating the equal performance as NSA with 5G Option 4 technology in 5G SA mode,” said June Moon, Executive Vice President and Head of Technology Strategy, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics. “We look forward to continue collaborating with SKT for the development and commercialization of advanced 5G SA technology, to deliver market-leading services to consumers and diverse use cases across industry.”

While in the early stages of 5G, operators used E-UTRAN New Radio Dual Connectivity (EN-DC) technology to combine 5G and 4G networks in 5G NSA mode, and now with 5G SA, they can leverage SA Option 4, which is a more advanced dual connectivity technology.

This latest milestone is a result of Samsung and SKT’s continued commitment to developing cutting-edge network technologies that power innovative 5G use cases. As part of their ongoing collaboration, the companies have successfully completed the EN-DC test in 2019, following the world’s first 5G Next-Generation Core (5G NC) trial in June 2018. In March 2021, SKT began delivering 5G SA commercial services to private networks using Samsung’s advanced 5G end-to-end solutions. In a collaborative effort, the companies will continue delivering advanced network services to mobile users in Korea.

Visit SK Telecom’s booth at MWC Barcelona 2022 for this Option 4 (NE-DC) demonstration and more.

Samsung has pioneered the successful delivery of 5G end-to-end solutions including chipsets, radios and core. Through ongoing research and development, Samsung drives the industry to advance 5G networks with its market-leading product portfolio from fully virtualized RAN and Core to private network solutions and AI-powered automation tools. The company is currently providing network solutions to mobile operators that deliver connectivity to hundreds of millions of users around the world.

When I started my career at Samsung 25 years ago, I was a young engineer with a passion for technology and all it could do. Over the years, the capacity of mobile innovation has exceeded even my ambitious expectations. It has brought us conveniences and capabilities that make our lives better, but it has also given us the opportunity to be better. The ability to connect without proximity empowers us to break down barriers and work together to make progress. And with humanity facing some of its most complex challenges yet, we need to collaborate and innovate solutions more than ever before. That’s why I believe mobile technology has a vital role to play in helping us protect our planet.

Samsung has always challenged what’s possible with technology. And now, we are taking our next step towards putting sustainability at the center of our innovations. From eco-conscious materials to global partnerships, we are exploring every opportunity to help power the world with mobile technology that serves as a tool for positive change.

Innovation With Impact

We’ve been on a journey for years at Samsung, marrying sustainability and innovation by using recycled materials in our smartphones, wearables and accessories. In addition to our ongoing effort to use more eco-conscious materials including recycled PCM (post-consumer materials), the new Galaxy smartphones and tablets that were unveiled at our latest Unpacked used select components containing 20% recycled ocean-bound plastic from discarded fishing nets.

We focused our innovation efforts on a pervasive and especially hazardous type of plastic waste that is harming marine life and our natural ecosystems — discarded fishing nets. Every year, 640,000 tons of fishing nets are abandoned in and around our oceans. With help from like-minded partners, we found a way to repurpose them into a new, high-performance material that can be incorporated into critical components of the Galaxy S22 series. From now on, more and more Galaxy devices will play a small part in reducing plastic waste in our oceans.

I know we still have a long way to go. And at Mobile World Congress 2022, we will share our next wave of innovations that incorporate recycled ocean-bound plastics.

Using Technology as a Force for Good

At Samsung, we believe in making mobile technology that has positive environmental impact and putting the power of our Galaxy ecosystem into the hands of passionate change makers.

I’ve seen this firsthand with our growing Generation17 initiative, which Samsung leads in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme. Generation17 empowers young activists to take on pressing issues like climate change, education and more, so the world can make headway towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals, by 2030. And with the recent addition of six new Young Leaders, the program now spans countries in Africa, Asia & The Pacific, Europe, North America, Latin America and the Middle East and supports work across all 17 Global Goals.

That’s how mobile innovation fuels transformation. It amplifies simple actions and individual voices and brings them together to amount to big, global change.

We Need Collective Action

I am in awe of the impactful ways people are helping to change the world with Galaxy, and I promise our work does not end here. Samsung will continue developing innovative technology that bridges barriers, connects communities and addresses the climate crisis.

Samsung is ready to do more. We will take real action, hold ourselves accountable and share our journey — from our successes to our challenges and lessons learned. We will act with our industry peers, with developers, with the Galaxy community, with everyone, to strengthen technology as a force for good.

It is only the second month of 2022, and yet, it has already been quite a year for Samsung Electronics!

Just a few days ago, we announced our Galaxy S22 series, a series that represents the best of Samsung’s mobility, innovation and ingenuity coming together to improve people’s daily lifestyles, and is also something that is also greatly influencing another lineup at Samsung: the PC.

Putting Users at the Heart of the Galaxy Experience

For the past two years, one of the biggest goals at Samsung has been to redefine the computing experience for the mobile world. We have been focusing on revamping our PC lineup to offer the best of Samsung’s mobile and ecosystem experiences with devices like the Galaxy Book Pro 360. This is also why we are committed to openness, a dedication to our customers that promises breakthrough innovations and leading collaborations in order to put our users at the heart of the Galaxy experience.

Last year, we reached more PC consumers in more markets than ever before, and as a result, PC sales increased by 63 percent year-over-year. Now in 2022, we are doing everything we can to further remove the friction from our users’ daily digital lives so that they can work, connect with loved ones, and enjoy their hobbies from anywhere with simple and seamless technology experiences. As a part of this initiative, we’ve emphasized device continuity, ensuring that the devices in the Galaxy Ecosystem work together for our users.

Therefore, as PCs continue to power many of our daily routines, we are continuing our efforts with our Galaxy Book lineup to provide best-in-class experiences across our devices. That’s why we’re continuing our longstanding partnership with Intel and Microsoft. Together, we will achieve three goals with our soon-to-be-announced next generation Galaxy Book lineup that is set to transform the way people use their devices within their daily lives: a seamless experience across devices and operating systems, the combination of the best of Galaxy mobility powered by Intel, and peace of mind brought about through robust security.

We are excited to share the full details of the next generation of Galaxy Book with you right ahead of Mobile World Congress (MWC), but in the meantime, here are a few things you can expect.

Seamless Experiences That Transcend Device and OS

As consumers continue to own and carry more mobile devices, from smartphones and tablets to PCs and wearables, we understand how vitally important it is that their tech works flawlessly together, no matter what operating system or form factor they are using.

We have already made major progress in tandem with Microsoft on apps like Link to Windows, and in 2022, we will expand these experiences even further. From smartphones to PCs, Galaxy devices already maintain a seamless experience that enables access to Microsoft apps such as Office, OneDrive and Outlook for full on-the-go functionality. Going forward, we will be bringing even more continuity to users as they work, connect, play and more.

To provide more consistency in the way our device experiences look and feel for all users, we recently announced One UI Book 4. Now, your favorite Samsung apps like Samsung Gallery and Samsung Notes look clean and consistent, whether you’re using them on your phone or your PC.

Combining the Best of Galaxy Mobility, Powered by Intel

We’re committed to creating devices in the Galaxy Ecosystem that are as thin and as light as possible while still being able to power your full productivity.

With the next generation of Galaxy Book, Samsung and Intel are building a modern PC experience, bringing the best of the connected Galaxy Ecosystem and mobility together with next-generation performance, battery life to give users a series of PCs that fulfill all their needs no matter where they are in life, or their day.

Peace of Mind for Our Users

These days, more and more people are working at home and facing unprecedented security risks to both themselves and their companies. We remain committed to providing safe, private and secure experiences no matter where our customers are to help contribute to a safer society.

The threat of cybercrime has increased substantially since the start of the pandemic, something which has the potential to cause untold damage to companies and individuals alike. However, we want to do everything we can to protect Galaxy users.

Nowadays, it’s vital that we deliver an experience that’s as secure as possible. One thing is clear: we can’t do this alone. To deliver the safest PCs possible, we worked together with Intel and Microsoft to ensure the next generation of devices meets the strongest security standards and combats modern security threats. We can’t wait to show you the next generation of Galaxy Book alongside our trusted partners. Look out for more updates soon once we’re ready to share our full vision of the modern PC experience.

Samsung Electronics today introduced its One UI Watch user experience at Mobile World Congress (MWC) today. The new interface is designed to make the Galaxy Watch and smartphone experience more deeply connected. Samsung also confirmed that One UI Watch will be available for Galaxy Watch on the new, unified platform it jointly built with Google, bringing performance enhancements, a more seamless experience between the Watch and Android smartphones, and access to an even greater number of applications. Samsung further revealed that its upcoming Galaxy Watch will be the first to feature the new unified platform and One UI Watch, which will make its debut at the Unpacked event later this summer.

“To unlock the full potential of these wearables, we’re leveraging our long legacy of mobile innovations and our partnerships with trusted industry leaders who have grown with us in our open ecosystem,” said Patrick Chomet, EVP and Head of Customer Experience Office, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through these efforts, we will enrich our smartwatch experience and convenience of the Galaxy ecosystem for our consumers.”

One UI Watch together with the new unified platform will create an entirely new Galaxy Watch experience. As part of the new experience, once you install watch-compatible apps on your smartphone, they will be swiftly downloaded onto your smartwatch. If you’ve customized your clock app on your phone to show the time in different cities around the globe, this will be automatically reflected on your watch as well. And if you block calls and messages from your watch, they will now be blocked on your smartphone, too.

The unified platform will open up new features and integrations with popular third-party apps available to download from Google Play directly on your Galaxy Watch. So, whether you’re a sports and fitness fanatic who wants to get more out of apps like Adidas Running, GOLFBUDDY Smart Caddie, Strava and Swim.com, a wellness seeker who wants to live a more balanced lifestyle with apps like Calm or Sleep Cycle, a music lover who revels in discovering new artists on Spotify and YouTube Music, or an intrepid explorer ready to roam with Google Maps—there’s something for everyone, thanks to a diverse range of partners.

“Samsung and Google have a long history of collaboration and whenever we’ve worked together, the experience for our consumers has been dramatically better for everyone,” said Sameer Samat, Vice President of Product Management, Android and Wear, Google. “That certainly holds true for this new, unified platform, which will be rolling out for the first time on Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch. In collaboration with Samsung, we’re thrilled to bring longer battery life, faster performance, and a wide range of apps, including many from Google to a whole new wearable experience.”

In addition, Samsung will bring an improved watch face design tool, making it easier than ever for designers to create new watch faces. Later this year, Android developers will be able to unleash their creativity and release fun, new designs that will be added to Samsung’s ever-growing collection of watch faces to give consumers even more options for customizing their smartwatches to suit their mood, activity and personality.

The new Galaxy Watch will be the first-ever device to feature One UI Watch and the new, unified platform, which is scheduled to be announced at Samsung’s Unpacked event later this summer. Stay tuned for the new Galaxy Watch and much more.

Your car might not be able to drive it self just yet, but the automobiles of the near future will be very different from the ones drivers are used to getting around in today. That’s because everyone from automobile manufacturers to IT companies to city planners are developing a variety of new technologies and methods that will make cars far more digitally connected. Samsung is working hard to lead this trend and showcased its connected car service, as well as its most recent partnerships at its “The Car, Connected” event at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 22.

Mok Oh, Vice President of New Services, Samsung Electronics’ Enterprise Business, welcomes visitors to Samsung’s “Car, Connected” event at MWC 2016.

Safety First

Equipped with internet connectivity and software that enable drivers to stream music, look up traffic and weather conditions, prevent their teenagers from texting and even power driving-assistance services such as self-parking, the connected car is providing entirely new value to drivers.

Furthermore, utilizing driving data lowers costs to insurance and third-party service providers, disrupting the automobile market. Growing at a compound annual growth rate of 30 percent, this next generation vehicle is creating massive new business opportunities and making consumers rethink the way they drive.

Samsung’s Connect Auto service features an app that allows users to monitor their driving habits and helps them improve their driving behavior.

Samsung, too, is hoping to transform transportation with its new connected car solution, Samsung Connect Auto. Slated to launch in the second quarter of this year, starting in the US, Samsung Connect Auto uses real-time alerts to help consumers improve their driving behavior, including increased fuel efficiency, while offering a Wi-Fi hotspot and other features to create a multimedia center for the car. And what’s better is it plugs directly into the on-board diagnostics connector making it compatible with most automobiles on the road today.

Hyesung Ha, Senior Vice President of Samsung’s Enterprise Business, discusses the importance of privacy and security in the connected car industry.

Despite these benefits, some consumers are hesitant to utilize connected car technologies. Delivering the keynote speech at Samsung’s connected car event, Hyesung Ha, Senior Vice President of Samsung’s Enterprise Business, noted a McKinsey report that found two main reasons for consumers’ hesitations are privacy and safety.

“We understand our success depends on consumers’ trust in us and the products and services that we provide,” Ha explained. “The data and information of users is our top priority, and we work hard to safeguard the valuable information of our consumers.”

Samsung has taken steps to reassure hesitant consumers by securing Samsung Connect Auto with eSE (embeded Secure Element) based on Samsung KNOX, the most robust mobile security platform in the world. This essentially creates a firewall protecting hackers from accessing Samsung Connect Auto, preventing user data from falling in to the wrong hands.

Representatives of Samsung’s partner companies share their insights as automotive industry leaders on trends, challenges, benefits and the future of the connected car.

A Connected Ecosystem for a Truly Connected Car

Yet, even when armed with the technology and security needed to power a connected vehicle, the industry cannot fully thrive without a connected ecosystem. As such, Samsung is taking the reins to build a linked network of carriers, insurance companies, roadside assistance operators and maintenance networks that responds to the changing demands of current and potential automobile owners.

Representatives from Samsung’s major partner companies, including FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Willis Towers Watson, AT&T, SEAT, Cisco and Tantalum Corporation were part of a panel discussion at the event and explored how always-on automobiles have already begun to improve road safety and change driving behaviors for the better. The panel also touched on the existing challenges and potential benefits for all parties involved. Insurers, for example, can not only provide potential discounts to their current customers, but also new services to customers who are willing to opt-in and share their driving behavior data from their connected car.

By bridging the gaps between consumer electronics, IoT, and the automotive industries, Samsung is transforming the always-on automobile to be safe, secure, eco-friendly and productive.

In its establishment of valuable partner relationships, Samsung is helping to bridge the gap between the automotive, consumer electronics and IoT industries by making its products and partner services seamlessly integrated for a driving experience that is safe, secure, eco-friendly and, of course, fun.

And while this is only the beginning of the connected car era, the future of the industry is bright. With experts predicting that all cars will be connected in the not-too-distant future, there are huge opportunities for new applications and services that take advantage of this always-on connection. Samsung Connect Auto, as well as the technology leader’s efforts to build a diverse, connected ecosystem, is a step in the right direction. Through these endeavors, the company will bring the car into the already connected world of smartphones, smart homes and wearables, ultimately allowing the automobile to be the next part of the IoT revolution.

With Samsung’s recent announcement of its plan to expand its Samsung Pay service to even more countries, people in all corners of the world are getting ready to pay in an entirely new way.

Spain is the one of the countries preparing for the expansion of Samsung Pay. Ahead of the Spanish launch soon, people can experience the mobile payment service at several locations throughout Barcelona, including the Samsung Experience Store in the city’s Gran Via 2 shopping complex.

“People in Spain are familiar with contactless payments, and have been for quite some time,” stated a sales representative at the store. “They’re really thrilled that they will be finally able to use this service with their own smartphones.”

The just-opened Samsung Experience Store boasts a Samsung Pay demonstration in which customers can see for themselves just how easy, flexible and convenient Samsung’s mobile payment service is. Those who have tried the in-store demonstration are especially fond of the security offered in Samsung Pay.

A sales representative of the Samsung Experience Store demonstrates Samsung Pay.

“They really like the fingerprint verification feature, as it makes the transaction feel more secure,” the representative said.

Barcelonians can also get hands-on with Samsung Pay at El Corte Inglés, the biggest department store group in Europe.

Launched last year in Korea and the U.S., Samsung Pay experienced a strong adoption rate, with five million registered users and over 500 million dollars processed in its first six months.

Compatible with both card and NFC readers, the most widely accepted mobile payment system in the world will soon reach even more consumers, beginning with China in March. It will continue its expansion in Australia, Brazil, Singapore, Spain, and the United Kingdom in the later part of this year.

Samsung Electronics, will showcase 4G LTE and advanced mobile technologies that pave the way towards a 5G future at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC). To provide ultra-fast mobile communication with reliable mobility and architectural flexibility, Samsung is also introducing multilink connectivity technology, centralized radio, Internet of Things, and mmWave radio access solutions.

“The evolution of communication technologies has transformed the way people live their lives,” said Youngky Kim, President and Head of Networks Business at Samsung Electronics. “5G technology will offer us a new level of experience, which is immersive, tactile and ubiquitous. Thanks to seamless mobility, higher throughput and low latency of 5G technology, new services like hologram calls, virtual reality broadcasting of live football games and self-driving cars will enrich our lives.” he added.

5G Technology

At MWC 2016, Samsung will make 5G technology a reality by introducing reliable mobility and feasibility to utilize spectrums above 6GHz. Samsung will demonstrate the capability of the technology by transmitting eight Ultra High-Definition 4K videos over the air without delays. The company will simultaneously use its mmWave radio system for spectrums above 6GHz. This will show a low latency of less than one millisecond and a high speed data communication in gigabit throughput.

In addition, Samsung will introduce world’s first mobile handover test using the mmWave radio system and smartphone-integrated, multiple antenna modules in a small form factor. It is another footstep toward realization of 5G technology into reality that no one has not yet introduced.

Multi-link Connectivity Solution

The explosive growth in demand for mobile data is forcing operators to find new ways to make their network architecture simple and flexible. Operators face challenges to efficiently manage heterogeneous networks that include LTE/WiFi, macro/small cells, licensed/unlicensed spectrums and even different generations from 2G to 5G.

To address these challenges, Samsung will present a range of new solutions, including LTE-Unlicensed (LTE-U) / License Assisted Access (LAA), Multi-Path Transfer Control Protocol (MP-TCP), D-RAN Inter-site Carrier Aggregation and Samsung Smart Multi-Linktm.

Multi-Path Transfer Control Protocol (MP-TCP) technology is currently one of the key priorities for Samsung. This technology allows aggregation among independent networks using different technologies, such as WiFi, IoT, 3G, 4G, 5G and more. Distinguished from other technologies such as Dual/Multi connectivity, MP-TCP enables the merging of data streams from each independent network, including non-3GPP standard based networks, at the Internet Protocol (IP) layer, which makes aggregation much simpler and faster. This technology has already been successfully commercialized in Korea, one of the world’s most data-centric countries, last year.

Samsung is also introducing Smart Multi-Linktm for the first time, based on its Unified Core architecture. This is designed to support backward and forward compatibility, incorporating 2G to 5G technology, in addition to embracing non-3GPP standard technologies. Using Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Self Defined Network (SDN), Smart Multi-Linktm enables the transformation of distributive networks into one unified and flexible network.

Internet of Things (IoT)

The key lineup of Samsung IoT solutions will be seen at this year’s MWC as well; including IoT Core, Gateways and various radio access solutions such as a standalone IoT base station, IoT integrated Digital Unit (DU) and LoRaTM based Unlicensed Low Power Wide Area (LPWA).

Samsung will also introduce its Mission-Critical IoT service, a new use case incorporated with Public Safety-LTE. As a total solution provider of consumer electronics and carrier solutions, Samsung can provide a complete package of Mission-Critical IoT services, even including a diverse range of sensors and devices.

Not only will Samsung fulfill its requirements for 3GPP standards such as CAT-0, CAT-1, CAT-M, NB-IoT in 2016, but the company will also unveil its ‘standard beyond’ technologies in 2017, which will be especially optimal for Mission-Critical IoT.

Public-Safety LTE

Samsung will demonstrate its live Push-to-Talk services with multiple handheld devices, to show a typical emergency use case. In particular, this demonstration will be showcased with Evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services (eMBMS), which enables HD videos and images to be broadcast to multiple devices instantly with minimized network resources. And with a virtualized core solution, a single PS-LTE network can be configured and operated independently for each government agency such as the police, fire services and national railways, while being controlled efficiently from a single point at the main control center.

Furthermore, Samsung will be deploying the world’s first 3GPP standard based PS-LTE network in Korea as the only end-to-end solution provider—from devices to core and radio solutions.

Centralized-RAN Evolution: C-RAN 2.0+

With commercial deployment of C-RAN in Korea, Samsung has already undergone two cycles of upgrades. This year, Samsung will enhance its C-RAN platform once again by introducing C-RAN 2.0+. Retaining the benefits from Samsung’s Smart SON and Smart Scheduler, base stations will detect the interference at the cell-edge and control radio transmission power in real time and maximize the total data throughput by 40~50% on average.

C-RAN is already considered a revolutionary part of the cellular industry’s future. Samsung’s continuous C-RAN evolution will be an important asset for operators preparing for 5G networks.

All of these latest solutions will be exhibited at the Samsung booth (Exhibit Hall 2 Stand 2M10) during Mobile World Congress 2016 from February 22-25 in Barcelona, Spain.
