The new feature introduces a Trip timeline that brings all travel-related plans together in a single view, adding structure to busy itineraries and providing a smoother journey from start to finish. When users add eligible items to Samsung Wallet, Trips groups them together based on factors such as time and location, helping travelers keep itineraries in one place despite details coming from different sources.   

Users can manage a range of travel-related experiences, including bookings such as hotels, flight itineraries, car rentals and excursions — as well as tickets for buses, trains, theme parks and sporting events. Trips also supports the ability to manually add itinerary items and include memos alongside saved items to capture key reminders, plans and notes throughout the journey.

Once a compatible smart door lock is set up through Samsung SmartThings¹ using Matter, the global smart home standard, users can add a Digital Home Key to Samsung Wallet as part of the door lock onboarding process. Depending on device and lock capabilities, users can unlock their door by tapping their smartphone using near-field communication (NFC) technology,² using hands-free access with ultra-wideband (UWB)’s³ proximity detection or remotely through the app.

Samsung Wallet’s Digital Home Key adopts the Aliro standard, an industry-standardized communication protocol developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), to enable secure, interoperable digital keys for smart locks. Along these lines, Samsung is collaborating with leading smart lock brands to support Samsung Wallet Digital Home Key, including Aqara, Nuki, Schlage and Xthings.⁴

Digital Home Keys are securely stored within Samsung Wallet on the device and safeguarded by Samsung Knox,⁵ Samsung’s industry-leading security platform. The solution is designed to align with EAL6+⁶ grade certification standards, providing robust protection against unauthorized access to digital keys.

With this level of protection, users maintain control over their Digital Home Key, even if a device is misplaced. Digital Keys are securely embedded within the device, meeting rigorous EAL6+⁴ security standards to protect against unauthorized access. Using ultra-wideband (UWB) technologies, a standardized communication protocol set by the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), Digital Keys ensure precise functionality and significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized vehicle access.

Should a device containing a Digital Key be misplaced or stolen, users can remotely lock or delete their key via the Samsung Find service, further safeguarding their vehicles. With biometric or PIN-based user authentication requirements, Samsung Wallet protects the vehicle, ensuring privacy and security with every interaction.

Samsung Wallet is a versatile platform that allows Galaxy users to organize Digital Keys, payment methods, identification cards and more in one secure application. Launched in June 2022, Samsung Wallet features a seamless interface protected by defense-grade security from Samsung Knox. It integrates with the Galaxy ecosystem, providing powerful connectivity and fortified security for users in their everyday lives.

Availability

Digital Key functionality for select Audi vehicles will roll out starting this month in Europe,⁵ followed by a global rollout aligned with the launch timeline of Audi vehicles.

Samsung Electronics today announced that it will provide an even smarter and more streamlined Samsung Wallet experience to French residents and tourists in France. Beginning this summer, Samsung Wallet will support Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) integration on Samsung Galaxy devices,¹ ensuring seamless public transportation services across the Île-de-France region through Navigo Travel Card access. The Add to Wallet function will also make it easy for visitors to the region to enjoy popular Paris attractions and sites. And together with new partner, Air France, Samsung Wallet will enable a convenient flight ticket management experience on Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

Enabling Hassle-Free Local Transport in Paris

This summer, residents and visitors can enjoy a seamless public transport experience within Île-de-France region through global IDFM support.² Users can easily access the IDF Mobilités app through a pre-loaded shortcut displayed under the Transit menu of Samsung Wallet.

In addition to efficient city navigation, travelers can leave behind ticket queues and unmanned ticket booths. Samsung Galaxy users can simply tap their devices to board or transfer buses, metros and Réseau Express Régional (RER) lines,³ reducing the need for physical cards or tickets and unlocking a hassle-free transport experience.

Unlocking Simplified Travel in France

Even beyond Paris, Samsung Galaxy users can enjoy the simplicity of payment card-based transit across multiple French cities, including Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Lille and Aix-en-Provence. Plus, the RoissyBus and OrlyBus shuttle provide quick, direct links for travelers between the city center and Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport. With this feature, Samsung Galaxy users can just tap their device to pay and go,⁴ boosting transport speed and accessibility.

For international travel, the Add to Wallet function is now being extended to Air France and partner flights, allowing Samsung Galaxy users to add boarding passes to Samsung Wallet.⁵ What’s more, travelers from abroad can rest assured that international payments and Add to Wallet capabilities will work smoothly when visiting France. Upon arriving at their destination, travelers will be prompted via push notification⁶ to explore these features, ensuring user awareness of all that Samsung Wallet has to offer during their visit to the region — from enhanced sight-seeing and local transport to simplified international travel.

Enhancing Tourism Across Attractions

Samsung Wallet is also enabling the Add to Wallet function for tickets to iconic landmarks and other attractions, making them all conveniently accessible from a Samsung Galaxy device. Visitors can explore all the entertainment France has to offer with ease, from sites like the Palace of Versailles to over 200 cinemas.

• Samsung Wallet: Last year, Samsung Wallet combined Samsung Pay with Samsung Pass to consolidate more of users’ wallets on their smartphones. With the all-in-one Samsung Wallet app, users can easily make payments, provide IDs and pull up show tickets² right on their smartwatch.
• Thermo Check: Thanks to the new Skin Temperature API — a part of Samsung’s Privileged Health software development kit (SDK) — partners can now take full advantage of the Galaxy Watch’s advanced infrared technology for temperature measurements. The new Thermo Check app allows users to easily measure the temperature of their surroundings, from meals they are about to eat to water they are about to swim in, all without any physical contact required. • WhatsApp: In a new expansion of the unified Wear OS ecosystem, Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch4 users can now use WhatsApp’s first-ever smartwatch app. The app will let users continue conversations, reply to messages by voice and even answer calls, all without needing to take out their phones.⁴

Samsung Electronics today announced it will host the Samsung Developer Conference 2022 (SDC22) at the Moscone North in San Francisco on October 12. More Than a Payment Service

Samsung Wallet also supports for digital automobile keys on select BMW, Genesis and Hyundai models⁷ which let users lock and unlock cars, start engines and more. And Samsung’s partnership with Korean Air allows Korean Air boarding passes⁸ to be stored in Samsung Wallet for easy access, making it simple and convenient to board a flight.

As Secure as It Is Simple, Protected by Samsung Knox

Samsung Wallet is protected by a defense-grade security platform, Samsung Knox. Protections include fingerprint recognition and encryption which help safeguard users’ sensitive data, so only the device owners can access their important information. Along with Samsung Knox, certain key sensitive items in Samsung Wallet are stored in an isolated environment — the embedded Secure Element, which also helps protect against digital and physical hacking.

The Future of Smart Car Keys With UWB

UWB is a wireless technology that allows your smartphone to connect and communicate directly with your car. Once a digital key is registered, the GV60 can identify authorized Galaxy devices and unlock the doors as they approach.

Travel Light With Digital Key on Samsung Pass

Digital key is available through Samsung Pass, a system for storing digital signatures, IDs and passwords. Later this year, we are excited to expand this service to Samsung Wallet, which will also allow users to securely store and manage digital IDs, boarding passes, vouchers and credit cards on their phone.² It helps you keep everything you need to get through the day in one, safe, practical and convenient place.

To use a digital key on your smartphone:

• Install and open up the Genesis Connected Service app in the car.
• Select “Vehicle” menu on the infotainment system.
• Select the “Digital Key” menu on the screen, and “Register” on your Genesis Connected app.

That’s it! Samsung Pass should start automatically registering the key in both apps.

Now, you can leave your car keys at home.

Unlock New Ways of Starting Your Car

Depending on your car’s settings, there are two ways to unlock your car using UWB. You can open your car door by pressing the door handle while your phone is in your bag or pocket, or you can automatically unlock it simply by approaching the car with your smartphone.³ Both ways can be used interchangeably, so you can always choose the option that makes life easier.

Users can also enjoy some helpful features remotely on their phone, like honking the horn or starting the car, before entering the vehicle by pressing the engine button in Samsung Pass.

Share Your Digital Key With Family and Friends

What about when someone needs to borrow your car? You can choose to share your digital key with three of your contacts by selecting them from a list and clicking ‘Send digital key’. This will send a text message that guides them through setting up a digital key on their Galaxy smartphone. Once you share the key, the recipient can start using it immediately by adding it to their Samsung Pass. You can even control how long they have access to the key, and revoke access when needed.

Users can enjoy peace of mind knowing that their digital key is secure, thanks to the high-level security chipset protecting Samsung Pass. The app’s authentication process ensures you always have control over who can borrow your car key, and when.
