Tonight, when the latest Galaxy products are set to be launched, expectations for what’s next in smartphone innovation have been growing. Samsung Electronics

Tonight, when the latest Galaxy products are set to be launched, expectations for what’s next in smartphone innovation have been growing. Samsung Electronics has consistently been setting the bar for the industry with its latest models unveiled at every Unpacked event, and this year is set to be no different.

Samsung has been leading the industry by introducing hardware (HW) and software (SW) that break the existing mold every year for the past 12 years since the unveiling of the first Galaxy S device in 2010. Some of the most game-changing so far include a large-screen smartphone with excellent immersion; a smartphone-stylus combination that enhanced productivity and creativity; and the world’s first dual-pixel camera technology. In addition, the Galaxy Note series, Galaxy tablet series and various wearable devices including Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Buds have contributed to the wider Galaxy ecosystem that has so transformed user’s lifestyles.

Ahead of the Galaxy Unpacked event set for February 10, Samsung Newsroom is providing a look back at the technological legacy of the Galaxy series. Read on to learn more about the 10 innovative Galaxy smartphone technologies that have set new standards and transformed the way we live our lives.

#1. 2010
The AMOLED Display: Bigger Is Better

One of the major benefits of a smartphone is that it allows users to enjoy content on a large screen with clear picture quality that sits right in the palm of their hand. Samsung kicked off the trend of the large screen era in the smartphone industry with the introduction of their AMOLED display. This display, developed using Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) technology, is characterized by its clear picture quality, self-luminescence and larger screen size.

The Samsung Galaxy S was the world’s first smartphone to be launched with a Super AMOLED display, an ultra-thin screen that consumes less power and provides crisper and more vivid picture quality. With the introduction of the Galaxy S in 2010, users’ interest became piqued in obtaining bigger screens — such as the 4- to 5-inch screens of the AMOLED display compared to the conventional 3-inches on other phones — on which to fully immerse themselves in their favorite content.

Samsung has continued to take its AMOLED technology to the next level by unveiling devices with more powerful and more advanced screens, such as the Galaxy S10, the world’s first mobile device with a High Dynamic Range10+ (HDR10+) supported Dynamic AMOLED display, and the Galaxy S21 series, which features a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an automatic refresh rate of up to 120Hz based on the content type. Samsung’s innovative technology has enabled silky-smooth scrolling and uninterrupted viewing experiences, even on larger screens.

#2. 2011
The Galaxy Note and S Pen: Adding Analog Touch to Digital Devices

As of 2011, it became no longer necessary to keep notebooks and writing instruments in our bags at all times. With the introduction of the Galaxy Note equipped with S Pen, it is now possible to save and share everything from memos to drawings right on our smartphone’s screen. At that time, the Galaxy Note was launched with an S Pen that supported 256 levels of pressure onto the device’s large screen. Since then, both the Note and the S Pen have become inseparable, and as the series has developed, both have evolved significantly.

For example, Samsung introduced Air Command for the Galaxy Note 3 to give users easy access to signature S Pen features when hovering their S Pen over the screen. The company also then incorporated Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology into the Galaxy Note 9 S Pen so that its stylus pen could also function as a remote control. For the Galaxy Note 10, the addition of Air Action features enabled users to remotely control their device when switching camera modes or zooming in or out, a marked change from previous models which only permitted users to take photos from a distance. In line with this innovative spirit, Samsung introduced the artificial intelligence (AI)-powered S Pen for the Galaxy Note 20 in order to provide users with a more delicate and sophisticated drawing experience, and as of last year, the innovative S Pen is now available on devices such as the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold3 to expand its compatibility.

#3. 2013
Samsung Knox: Your Trusted Mobile Bodyguard

We are now living in the era where most of our daily tasks and experiences can be undertaken all with a singular smartphone, meaning that the importance of security cannot be overemphasized. Samsung Knox has become a reliable shield for users concerned about information leakage or virus penetration.

Samsung Knox, installed on Galaxy devices since the Galaxy Note 3 in 2013, protects devices on a step-by-step basis from the chipset to the operating system (OS) and application level, while also blocking hacking and unauthorized access. In addition, thanks to its encrypted container space, a user’s personal and business data can be separated and managed safely.

In 2021, the company launched Samsung Knox Vault with the Galaxy S21 in order to thoroughly ensure the protection of ever-growing amounts of data. In addition to offering the industry’s highest level of security chipset (eSE, or embedded Secure Element) and a secure processor that prevents HW-level attacks, Samsung Knox Vault features a tamper-resistant security memory to protect a user’s various passwords and biometric information.

#4. 2014
Superb IP Rating: Ultimate Protection From Dust and Water

In the early 2010s, if you accidentally dropped your smartphone while using it in water, nothing but despair awaited you. To mitigate this, Samsung expanded the horizon of smartphone experiences by applying waterproof and dustproof functions to the Galaxy S5 for the first time in 2014.

From the Galaxy S7 in 2017 onwards, IP68,1 the highest waterproof and dustproof rating, has been applied to Galaxy devices in order to strengthen their performance. The IP68 rating is given to devices after testing in fresh water at a depth of 1.5m for 30 minutes. Galaxy users are now able to use their smartphones with peace of mind thanks to strong waterproof and dustproof technologies.

#5. 2015
Samsung Pay: A Mobile Wallet in Your Pocket

It is no exaggeration to say that, after 2015, the trend of going ‘wallet-less’ saw a surge in increase. At this time, Samsung introduced Samsung Pay, a mobile payment service that replaces the cash and credit cards in a user’s wallet. Since this service was first introduced on the Galaxy S6 in 2015, it has established itself as a core representational service of the Galaxy smartphone.

When using public transportation, as well as when out shopping, users need just touch their smartphone instead of having to get out their wallet to pay. These days, leaving the house without a wallet has become a normal habit.

#6. 2016
Advanced Camera Technology: The World’s First Dual Pixel Sensor

Smartphone camera technologies are advancing day by day, to the extent at which if you have a smartphone, you’re able to capture pictures and videos comparable to that of professionals.

In 2016, Samsung raised the smartphone camera function to a new level by installing the industry’s first dual pixel in the Galaxy S7. At that time, the dual pixel was an image sensor only seen in high-end digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras. By increasing the amount of light received by both the front and rear cameras, the Galaxy S7 was able to focus quickly and accurately, as well as take optimal photos in dark environments.

Samsung then combined an Ultra-Wide angle lens and intelligent SW in the Galaxy S10 to help users take even sharper pictures. The Galaxy S20 features a remarkable four quad cameras, raising the level of camera functionality once again. In particular, the optical zoom performance has been greatly improved; Galaxy S20 Ultra users can harness the Space Zoom function to zoom in up to 100 times, allowing them to take clear pictures of the night sky.

#7. 2018
One UI: Making My Own Galaxy

One UI is an interface that supports the unique user experience of Samsung Galaxy, and was first introduced in November 2018.

By dividing the viewing area and the touching area, the layout of One UI allows users to comfortably perform all operations with just one hand, and all necessary essential functions are included concisely on-screen so that everyone and anyone is able to use it easily. One UI is also characterized by a unified user experience as it has been applied consistently to devices across the Galaxy ecosystem, including smartphones, tablets and wearables.

One UI 4, updated last year, harnesses a completely different color palette with which to decorate a device’s home screen, icons, notifications and wallpapers in your own style. In addition, One UI 4 features strengthened security features, such as allowing users to easily select what to share and what to keep private in order to keep up with users who increasingly value their individuality and their privacy.

#8. 2019
Galaxy Z Series: The Dawn of the Era of Foldable Smartphones

In 2019, Samsung pioneered the field of foldable smartphones by unveiling the world’s first Galaxy Z Fold, equipped with a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display.

Samsung’s newly developed hinge technology makes it possible to open and close the smartphone as smoothly as one opens a book, and offers users secure, long-lasting flexibility that passed a test to withstand 200,000 folds. In 2020, the company’s foldable lineup was expanding to include the Galaxy Z Flip, which features a compact design as the screen unfolds vertically.

Samsung not only pioneered a new form factor, but also new usability options through such functions as Flex mode, which allows for more usage scenarios by fixing the hinge at a specific angle, and Multi-Active Window, which can open and run apps at the same time with applications optimized for the foldable screen for a split screen view.

Last year, Samsung expanded their foldable lineup with the Galaxy Z Fold3, which saw the inclusion of an S Pen and waterproof and dustproof technology, and the colorful, pastel-toned Galaxy Z Flip3 Bespoke Edition, leading the era of foldable popularization.

#9. 2021
An AI-Powered Eraser: Removing Unwanted Objects From Photos

As part of Samsung’s mission to expand the application of innovative AI technologies to all smartphones, the company introduced the Object Eraser feature that lets you remove any unwanted objects in your photos with just a touch.

The Object Eraser function, first introduced in the Galaxy S21 in 2021, is a photo editing tool that harnesses artificial intelligence. Simply by touching the object you want to remove from a photo and tapping the ‘object erase’ button, the object is deleted without the need for a separate editing program. Currently, this function is available on smartphones with One UI 3.1 or higher, such as the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Fold3.

Samsung first applied its AI-powered interface, Bixby, to the Galaxy S8 in 2017, and now users can control their major Galaxy devices using only their voice. In addition, Samsung has been incorporating AI technologies into its device OS, battery and camera in order to improve performance and convenience.

#10. 2021
Galaxy for the Planet: For a Sustainable Future

Samsung is fully committed to minimizing the environmental impact of its products throughout the entire lifecycle of its smartphones, from the design to the production stage through to their usage and disposal, in order to ensure that Galaxy smartphones contribute to greater environmental sustainability. Under the sustainability vision of its Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, “Galaxy for the Planet,” Samsung is consistently working to achieve a circular economy by reusing and recycling resources in order to build a better Galaxy ecosystem.

One such effort towards sustainability is a reduction of plastic usage in smartphone packaging. The percentage of plastics used in the Galaxy S21 packaging accounts for a mere 4 percent of the total weight, cutting down the waste generated per packaging unit by 49 percent as compared with that of the Galaxy S7. In addition, the Galaxy S21 packaging contains only 58 percent of the paper used in that of the Galaxy S7, helping save some 44,802 trees a year. Samsung plans to exclude plastic materials in its product packaging and apply recycled materials to all of its products in the MX division by 2025.

The products set to be unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked 2022 are drawing attention thanks to the revelation that they have been designed using eco-conscious materials recycled from marine waste. Samsung has succeeded in transforming discarded fishing nets, a major contributor to marine pollution, into a material with which to produce smart devices, and the company plans to apply this material to all its products in the future.

1 IP (Degree of Ingress Protection, IP Code) is a product-related protection technology standard established by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and is applied to various IT products and industrial devices. IP68 is the highest rating for dust and water resistance. Ip68 has a waterproof function that can withstand 1.5m of clear water for 30 minutes, but it is recommended that the device be washed off immediately after contact with water and then dried.

This year has seen Samsung Electronics’ portfolio of high-performance foldable devices expand with the release of both the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3.

This year has seen Samsung Electronics’ portfolio of high-performance foldable devices expand with the release of both the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3. In addition to the Galaxy Z Fold3 featuring a wider screen, the device has now evolved further to include an S Pen for the first time ever with a foldable phone. The inclusion of this specially engineered S Pen is allowing users to boost their productivity and ensure they are getting the most out of every moment.

But Samsung’s cutting-edge new foldable solutions couldn’t have been realized without the hard work and collaborative efforts of Samsung’s global network of engineers. Among other accomplishments, these employees were able to incorporate advanced technologies like AI to enable drawing and writing on the Galaxy Z Fold3’s large screen, and to allow the device to convert handwriting in a range of languages into on-screen text with S Pen.

To find out more about just what went into the development of the innovative new S Pen, Newsroom spoke to Olga Radyvonenko from the Visual Intelligence Team at Samsung Research Ukraine.

Q: Can you briefly introduce the Ukrainian Research Institute and the kind of work that goes on there?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the key technologies of our R&D center. Our lab is focused on bringing Samsung users human-centric AI technologies that make input and interaction easy and enjoyable.

Q: The S Pen has now been applied to the Galaxy Z Fold3, making it the first of its kind among foldable smartphones. What role did you play in this process?

The major contributions of our lab to the Z Fold3 were the development of on-device deep learning technologies for handwritten content recognition and the technology for reducing S Pen input latency that combines advances in graphics and AI.

Q: What is the S Pen Software Development Kit? What particular advantages does it bring?

The S Pen Software Development Kit (SDK) is being developed by Samsung researchers and developers from many countries around the world, and we are very proud to be part of this international team. The S Pen SDK provides ways to speed up rendering and to reduce and optimize S Pen input latency. In addition, it comprises smart AI-powered features, such as recognition of handwritten text, shapes, diagrams and handwriting straightening.

Q: Given the unique function of the S Pen on the Z Fold3, was there any function of the S Pen that was developed or expanded specifically for the foldable smartphone?

As the new Z Fold3 has a massive and unique foldable display, we’ve focused on using our AI technology to optimize the S Pen experience as well as improve the latency. Thanks to our point prediction technology powered by deep learning, we are able to predict the next movement of the S Pen to minimize the delay between input and output on the screen of the Z Fold3. This, in combination with the front buffer rendering technology and unique large screen, means that our users can enjoy the most natural handwriting, note-taking and drawing on their Z Fold3.

Q: How many languages does the S Pen now support? What were some of the difficulties of expanding the number of recognized languages for the Z Fold3’s S Pen?

At this moment, the S Pen supports 88 languages in total, 14 of which were newly added in the past year.

Adding a new language for handwriting recognition requires a lot of effort. In order to achieve the world’s best level of recognition quality and speed, we have developed an advanced AI technology. This technology is based on deep learning across millions of users’ samples and language modeling for natural language processing (NLP).

Q: Do you have any special tips for making the most out of the S Pen on the Z Fold3 to share with users?

For those who love writing by hand, the S Pen To Text feature now supports writing with the S Pen directly into text fields. The handwriting is then automatically converted to text. Also, you can edit any printed text with your S Pen – for example, when correcting spacing or inserting words.

One feature that will also interest many users is Neat Shape mode. It can help you to not only draw shapes, but also build a flowchart.

Make sure to check the Tips application and not skip usage tips – there you will discover the newest S Pen and input features, and also learn how to use many other Samsung apps to their fullest potential.

Q: Looking forward, what do you think the future of the S Pen looks like? How might it evolve?

We hope to introduce more ways to support better user experiences by providing even more personalization in the near future. Our mission is to make S Pen input like writing in your notepad with a pen, but better and smarter.

Most of all, I want for as many people as possible to experience the power and convenience of the S Pen and its handwritten input capabilities. It has the potential to enhance input on a wide range of devices. We view the S Pen not only as a cool gadget, but first and foremost as an accessible and useful tool. I hope I will see the S Pen and its features casually used in education, in the workplace and in everyday life. I do believe we are set to see a revolution in input technology.

With the tablet as the canvas and the digital pen as the brush, the world of digital drawing unfolds, allowing you to capture beauty and bring what inspires you to life. Wherever you may be, simply turn on your tablet to transcend the limits of time and space and make colorful, multi-textured creations come alive.

Faster and more convenient due to their big-screen displays, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ offer users a new and better kind of canvas. Featuring an S Pen with significantly improved latency for smoother writing and drawing and a maximum 120Hz refresh rate that enables the display to react immediately to the strokes of the S Pen, the Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ are bringing a new level of fluid input to tablet use.

To check it for herself, digital artist Young-eun Lee (a.k.a. mingmiraclegreen) tried drawing a picture with the S Pen on the Galaxy Tab S7+. Having previously drawn many portraits on tablets, she drew world-renowned boy band BTS (who have collaborated with Samsung a number of times) by using the Tracing feature that allows even beginners to create artworks by drawing on top of images placed beneath the canvas. Take a look at the video below to see, step by step, how a blank canvas on the Galaxy Tab S7+ is transformed into a work of art.

Describing My Experience with the Galaxy Tab S7+

A short interview with artist Young-eun Lee

Q1. Please introduce yourself.

I’m Young-eun Lee. I’m an artist also known as mingmiraclegreen. I’ve been working to create a variety of digital art since I first experienced the beauty of digital drawing, which is quite different from drawing by hand.

Q2. What was it like drawing on the Galaxy Tab S7+?

Even though I was using the Galaxy Tab S7+ for the first time, after using it for just a short time I found the drawing experience very comfortable – much like drawing with a pencil. I was most impressed with how sensitive the tablet is to the S Pen. Even tiny strokes for things like strands of hair were accurately recognized and reflected. The button on the side of the stylus that allows you to switch into eraser mode instantly is a great time-saver as well.

Lately, I’ve been suffering from wrist pain due to all the drawing I’ve done over the years. But the S Pen is lightweight and has a comfortable grip that protects your wrist during extended use. The S Pen’s battery is long-lasting and it charges rapidly, allowing you to stay focused on your drawing and avoid distractions.

Q3. Any tips or tricks for those who would like to draw on the Galaxy Tab S7+?

If you’re trying to recreate a photo, I recommend using the Multi Window feature that splits the screen into different parts. The navigation button at the bottom opens up the list of apps you’ve used recently. Here, just select the “Open in split screen view” option by pressing and holding the icon for the app of your choice. After that, you’ll be able to open another app in the remaining space, allowing you to have the photo you’re recreating on one side, and the illustration app on the other without having to switch back and forth all the time.

Q4. How was your experience drawing with the Clip Studio Paint program?

The Clip Studio Paint EX version app is offered to Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ users free of charge for 6 months. I’ve tried it and noticed that it has a lot of great benefits. First, its interface is very similar to that of Photoshop, so Photoshop users will have no problem using it. The app comes with a wide selection of brushes, and makes it easier to save your work than some other apps. Also, the app automatically saves your previous color palettes to make it easier to recall them, removing the need to create them again from scratch.

Q5. What do you enjoy most about digital drawing?

First of all, drawing digitally allows you to draw anywhere, anytime using a broad range of materials. With analog drawing, you need to prepare a lot of materials and find a good spot to set up. But with digital, there are none of these restrictions.

Then there’s the huge advantage of being able to quickly and easily fix your mistakes. Any mistake made while drawing on a tablet is reversible, so it’s a great tool for beginners who are just starting out. So don’t be afraid – grab an S Pen and start drawing!

The S Pen has come a long way since it was first introduced in 2011, tucked into the bottom edge of the very first Galaxy Note.

Just as Samsung’s flagship series has redefined the mobile experience as we know it, the S Pen has rewritten the rules for what a smartphone stylus can do. From jotting notes on the go to snapping group photos from afar, and from editing and sharing documents to controlling media, the S Pen allows users to do so much more with their mobile device, more comfortably and conveniently than ever before.

The Galaxy Note20’s S Pen – the series’ tenth – enriches the user experience even further by offering smoother, more intuitive note-taking and lifelike precision. Follow along as we commemorate this monumental release by taking a closer look at the S Pen’s evolution over the years.

The 2011 introduction of the Galaxy Note and the S Pen launched a new category of mobile device: the phablet. Combining the characteristics of a smartphone and a tablet, the Galaxy Note made waves around the world with its groundbreaking design and notepad-like functionality.

The S Pen equipping that initial release was capable of serving as a pen, pencil, brush and highlighter. It also introduced what would be the first of many shortcuts designed to help users get things done faster; double tapping the screen while pressing the S Pen’s button would automatically open the S Memo app.

Introduced the following year, the Galaxy Note2 featured a redesigned S Pen that was flattened on one side to offer a more ergonomic grip.

The most notable enhancement from the first to second model was in pressure sensitivity. While the previous version supported up to 256 levels of pressure sensitivity, the new model supported up to 1,024, or four times as much. The improvement enabled users to enjoy a more nuanced and natural writing experience. A brush menu and eye dropper tool, which made it easy to lift colors from within the Note (from an image, for instance), were also added.

The improvements in the Galaxy Note3’s S Pen went beyond refining the handwriting experience and drastically enhanced the stylus’s productivity features. The new Air Command menu allowed users to instantly access important features simply by ejecting the S Pen or by clicking its button. The addition of this handy feature simplified making calls, sending emails and messages, adding doodles and notes to captured images, and much more.

The Galaxy Note4’s S Pen enhancements were about fostering a more realistic writing experience and adding more productivity tools.

Samsung started by greatly improving the S Pen’s accuracy, doubling its pressure sensitivity from 1,024 levels to 2,048. A new feature, Smart select, was also added to make it easier for users to share a variety of content. With Smart select, users could use their S Pen to instantly select, share and save content on their screen – no matter the app – and then share it with others via email or message.

The Galaxy Note5’s Screen off memo function was added because you never quite know when inspiration will strike, and when it does, you want to be able to capture it as quickly as possible.

The ability to jot memos directly onto the smartphone’s screen – memos that would be instantly saved once the user put the S Pen back into the device – added a new level of convenience to the note-taking experience. To enhance that convenience even further, Samsung simplified how the S Pen was removed. Whereas previous S Pens needed to be pulled out manually via the notch at the end, the Note5’s S Pen ejected with a light press.

Since 2017, many of Samsung’s S Pen enhancements have focused on enabling users to express themselves in fun and meaningful ways.

Introduced with the Galaxy Note8, Live messages are a perfect example of meaningful communication. This feature allows users to use the S Pen to draw their own fun, animated GIFS which can be instantly shared with friends or on social media. Text, drawings and GIFs created with Live message, which offers a diverse range of brushes and pens for users to choose from, can be saved in the Gallery and reused whenever the user likes.

By the time the Galaxy Note9 was introduced, the S Pen had evolved into so much more than a stylus. Now, on top of offering a diverse array of note-taking and productivity tools, the S Pen would serve as a convenient remote control for a wide variety of functions.

The addition of Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE) technology meant that the Note9’s S Pen could be utilized to, for example, snap a group photo from afar by using the S Pen’s button as a shutter, and to remotely control slides in presentations. The S Pen would automatically start charging once it was placed back in the device, and offered up to 30 minutes of use (or around 200 clicks) once fully charged.

With the Galaxy Note10, the S Pen became more than a remote control; it became a magic wand of sorts.

The introduction of S Pen Air actions opened the door for users to remotely control their device using simple gestures. With a press of the S Pen’s button, the user could use these intuitive actions to switch between cameras and shooting modes, zoom in or out of a shot, and execute a variety of other convenient functions, all with customizable gestures. The smartphone also introduced enhancements designed to help users maximize productivity, including a feature that enables handwriting to be instantly converted to text and exported via a variety of formats.

In a rapidly digitizing world, we can find ourselves missing the analog days every now and then. For those who find themselves longing for that pen-and-paper feel, the Galaxy Note20’s S Pen offers the most true-to-life note-taking experience yet.

A bevy of enhancements, including AI technology that allows for more accurate coordinate prediction, as well as an improved gyro sensor and accelerometer, have combined to support the most realistic handwriting and drawing experiences possible. Those experiences are amplified by the new S Pen’s greatly reduced latency. The Galaxy Note20 Ultra’s latency has been reduced by nearly 80 percent compared to the Note10. Such responsiveness enable users to enjoy a more lifelike writing experience – one that feels like the real thing.

In addition, for the Galaxy Note20, Samsung has expanded Air actions’ gesture controls to offer users more convenience. New ‘Anywhere actions’ make navigating your phone fast and easy, no matter which app you’re using. Using them is simple. A gesture resembling a clamp pointing to the right (>) pulls up recently used apps; an upward clamp (^) brings you back to the home screen; a clamp pointing to the left (<) signifies a backward action; and a downward clamp (∨) runs Smart select. Lightly shaking the S Pen automatically activates Screen Write, which instantly captures a screenshot of your screen and displays the S Pen’s annotation tools.

The S Pen’s evolution over the last nine years has been guided by a desire to maximize the usefulness of having a stylus-equipped smartphone. The Galaxy Note20 and its advanced S Pen are the latest products of this unwavering commitment to convenience. Going forward, as we transition to the next normal, Samsung will continue to enrich Note users’ lives by making the S Pen more versatile, powerful and fun to use.

Now more than ever, we need relevant, meaningful innovations that help people connect, create, and communicate more easily so they can work, play, and stay in touch with family and friends from anywhere.

A next normal has arrived and people are already adapting and finding new ways to be productive and enjoy entertainment. In-home data usage has grown by nearly 50 percent in the U.S. since the start of the year.1 More than 25 percent of professionals said they have started using video conferencing, or are using it more often, in that same period.2

The Galaxy Note20 series is making adapting to the next normal even easier by building on the heritage of the Note series and delivering an unparalleled experience designed for users that want to get more done and enjoy premium entertainment in the palm of their hands from anywhere they desire.

Here’s a look at the Galaxy Note20 series’ most impressive features for both work and play.

Mightiest S Pen Yet

From scribbling notes during a meeting to remote controlling your presentations, the S Pen has evolved to become the ultimate productivity companion. The Galaxy Note20 series takes everything you already loved about the S Pen and supercharges it.3

Powered by deep-learning technology, the Galaxy Note20 series’ S Pen has significantly improved latency for more natural, fluid writing. The Galaxy Note20 Ultra’s 120Hz display enhances the experience even more for life-like precision whether you’re jotting down notes in a meeting or scribbling down a grocery list. The S Pen’s built-in remote controls have also received a major update.

Gesture control is easier than ever on the Galaxy Note20 series with Anywhere actions – five new customizable gestures that expand on the capabilities offered by Air Actions. The new remote controls allow users to customize new actions for Back, Home, Recent App, Smart Select, and Screen Write, and make navigating and presenting easier no matter which app you’re using.

Ideas Worth Noting

We’ve all had that frustrating moment in the middle of a meeting where we realize the note or document we need is stored on another device. Thanks to improvements to Samsung Notes, you’ll never have to worry about that again.

Backed by auto-saving and syncing across mobile, tablet and Windows PCs, you can access your Samsung Notes no matter what device you’re using. So, even if you saved notes on the Galaxy Note20 or Galaxy Note20 Ultra, you can pull them up on your laptop at the meeting without hesitation. Enhancements to Samsung Notes have also made taking, editing, and managing your notes a smoother experience.

While using the S Pen to take notes, for example, Auto Straighten adjusts uneven or sideways writing so your notes are easier to read. While in business meetings and lectures, the Audio Bookmark feature now allows users to sync handwritten notes with audio recordings, allowing you to record while jotting down questions and comments simultaneously. While reviewing the audio, your notes will appear as bookmarks to help you remember the most important parts.

Other updates to Samsung Notes include exporting handwritten notes into PowerPoint slides in addition to PDFs and Word documents, a range of new template options such as checklists and graph paper, and the ability to import PDFs into Samsung Notes and make handwritten notes and annotations on them – perfect for signing contracts or making notes on a report.

Expanded Microsoft Integration

Samsung’s partnership with Microsoft reaches new heights on the Galaxy Note20 series. With Microsoft’s Your Phone app and Link to Windows integration on select Samsung phones, users can sync their Galaxy smartphone to their Windows10 PC to share messages, photos, notifications and calendar reminders in almost real-time. The Galaxy Note20 series introduces a suite of new experiences for a more continuous productivity flows.

While working from home, it’s easy to get distracted with life’s little interruptions. But no matter your workflow or workspace, Microsoft integrations on the Galaxy Note20 series make it easy to be your most productive.

Enjoy a seamless workflow across your phone, tablet, and Windows10 PC through your Samsung Account, which automatically syncs Samsung Notes to Microsoft 365 experiences, including Outlook and OneNote. Your notes appear in Outlook or OneNote as an image file, so you’ll always have notes for those impromptu conference calls. You can even get your Reminders across all platforms including Outlook, To Do, and Teams, to make sure you’re always on top of that to-do list. In addition to this, Link to Windows allows you to be more productive while using multiple devices.

Building on existing Link to Windows features that allow you to answer phone calls, respond to texts, receive notifications, and access your favorite mobile apps right on your PC, the Galaxy Note20 series delivers the ultimate multitasking experience.

The Your Phone Apps feature allows you to add your favorite mobile apps to your Windows10 PC Taskbar and Start menu to launch multiple apps from your phone with ease. The app now also allows you to copy and paste text and drag-and-drop files between your devices, so you can focus on getting more done. But the Microsoft partnership doesn’t stop at productivity features – it’s connecting users to a whole universe of gaming.

Play Your Favorite Games On the Go

From action-packed, sci-fi RPGs to strategic fantasy titles, the Galaxy Note20 series delivers the best mobile gaming experience with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Players can access a curated library of more than 100 of their favorite Xbox games from the cloud (beta), including Minecraft Dungeons, Gears 5, and more.

Powered by Galaxy Note20 series’ hyper-fast 5G4 and Wi-Fi 65 with optimized latency, you’ll be able to game with high-quality graphics on the go. Pair your device with a Bluetooth game controller for an even better cloud gaming experience.

Home Video Worthy of the Big Screen

Whether you’re capturing a baby’s first steps, a silly moment with your puppy, or a hike with family, the Galaxy Note20 series lets you relive your fondest memories in high-fidelity with Pro Video mode. Shoot like a movie director in 8K or 4K at 24 frames per second to give your home videos that cinematic look. Alternatively, shoot in Full HD at 120 frames per second and play back the video at 120Hz to get a super smooth look.

The Galaxy Note20 series also comes with a range of tools to make capturing video even easier. Control over zoom speed, for example, allows you to add a dramatic touch to your footage by zooming in slowly for close-ups or quickly zooming out for a grand reveal of your scene. Paired with Galaxy Buds Live, you’ll get crystal clear audio while minimizing noise in the background, making the Galaxy Note20 series the ultimate vlogging device.

Take Play to the Next Level with Multitasking

Multitasking isn’t just for maximizing productivity – it’s also for maximizing fun. The Galaxy Note20 series lets you make the most of your downtime by allowing you to connect to Samsung DeX6 wirelessly with your Smart TV while still allowing you to open and use apps on your smartphone screen.

Take notes while watching a tutorial or get feedback from friends in real-time while sharing your latest video masterpiece on the Smart TV screen. You can also watch movies together with family and friends while using the Galaxy Note20 series as a remote and control the mirroring and casting functions right from your phone.

The Galaxy Note20 series also introduces new three-finger Touch Pad controls to Samsung DeX for easier navigation when using Samsung DeX without the need for additional accessories.

All Wrapped in a Timeless Design

A feature-packed device wouldn’t be complete without a design to match. The Galaxy Note20 series elevates the design heritage of the Note series with a timeless and durable design featuring new Mystic color options and a matching S Pen. Soft, neutral tones and a textured haze finish add a touch of sophistication and a premium feel to Samsung’s most powerful Note yet.
