Samsung Technical School alumni Rajneesh Kumar Jaiswal and Debraj Das and Anuraj are heroes. Anuraj won a Gold Medal and, Rajneesh Kumar Jaiswal & Aakash

Samsung Technical School alumni Rajneesh Kumar Jaiswal and Debraj Das and Anuraj are heroes. Anuraj won a Gold Medal and, Rajneesh Kumar Jaiswal & Aakash won Silver Medals in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning category in the North region of Regional Level IndiaSkills Competition 2021.

Earlier, at the district level they bagged a Gold and a Silver medal at the prestigious IndiaSkills L2 and West Bengal Skills 2021 competitions respectively.

Rajneesh who is from the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Charbagh in Lucknow won Gold in repairing Refrigeration, AC and Home Appliances (RACHA) while Debraj, from ITI, Howrah Homes in West Bengal, won a Silver in repairing Audio Visual (AV) appliances at the competition.

The two prepared for the state level competitions at the Samsung Technical Schools that are part of Samsung’s CSR mission to empower the future generation of India.

Rajneesh, who joined ITI Lucknow in 2018 says the Samsung Technical School helped him gain practical knowledge of repairing and installing refrigerators

These are rigorous competitions that test participants on several levels. Both Rajneesh and Debraj first crossed a district level competition that took place online and then the state-level competition where their practical knowledge was put to test.

These competitions are organized by IndiaSkills, ESSI and the Department of Technical Education, Training & Skill Development.

Participants have to design a complicated electronic circuit, assemble their project and then test them out in a period of 6-7 hours. The best executed project wins.

While this may sound easy on paper, it took Rajneesh and Debraj hours of practice every day at their alma mater – the Samsung Technical Schools they passed out from – to crack the competition.

Rajneesh, who joined ITI Lucknow in 2018 says the Samsung Technical School helped him gain practical knowledge of repairing and installing refrigerators and air conditioners through cutting edge technology that Samsung uses.

“That was the game changer for me in the competition,” says Rajneesh, who chose to set up his own repair outfit after completing his course at Samsung Technical School to provide employment to others like him.

For 21-year-old Debraj, the love and passion that teachers at the ITI in Howrah Homes showed to help him prepare for the competition was that something extra that he needed to win.

Devraj: When I joined the ITI in 2019, I could only repair CTVs whereas now there isn’t a television or music system that I can’t repair

“They were welcoming and shared their expertise with me freely. “When I joined the ITI in 2019, I could only repair CTVs whereas now there isn’t a television or music system that I can’t repair,” says a confident Debraj, who now works with his father to grow their small electronics repair business in Howrah Homes.

“Samsung Technical School taught me how to operate using latest tools and more importantly the value of looing presentable and communicating with customers for building quality relationship,” says Das.

Kudos to Rajneesh and Debraj on winning the state-level competition and qualifying for the regional round after which they will be competing for the national level and might also get an opportunity to represent India in the World Skills Competition next year.

When Deepak Gupta completed his Samsung Technical School course in Refrigeration, AC and Handheld in 2018, he had a dream to set up his own business. The son of a street vendor, he wanted to provide a comfortable life to his parents and this desire led him to set up ‘Refrigeration Hub’ in Gurugram a year later.

Business had just started picking up when the pandemic hit, and like many other small business, had a bitter impact on Deepak’s too. The peak summer season for his business was just round the corner, in March 2020, but one could not step out, shops remained closed, and people were becoming hesitant about calling service personnel home.

Deepak: Consumers were very concerned about the pandemic and it was my responsibility as well to keep them safe, while getting on with my work

Deepak recalls it was a very difficult time for his family.

“I could barely pay the medical bills of my father and we completely exhausted our savings,” he said.

But when he looks back at that time now, he feels it was an opportunity in disguise. And he grabbed it, with both hands.

He shut down the shop he had and decided to operate from home, waiting for calls for home visits. He realized people were hesitant because of the spread of Covid at the time, but also required help with their refrigeration products – AC and refrigerator.

After a while, he did get a call from an existing customer to repair his AC, and when he did, he was prepared. He bought PPE kits and went fully geared up to the customer’s home.

“I knew I had one chance to make a good impression. Consumers were very concerned about the pandemic and it was my responsibility as well to keep them safe, while getting on with my work,” said Deepak.

That visit went well, and finding Deepak riding his bicycle adorned in a full PPE kit became a regular sight in Gurugram.

“At Samsung Technical School, our mentors always taught us to focus on relationship building and customer satisfaction. Using them as the main tools, I started contacting my clients to persuade them to allow me to support them while obeying safety guidelines issued by the government,” he said.

In 2019, Deepak completed his Refrigeration, AC and Handheld (RACHA) course from Samsung Technical School, a CSR initiative by Samsung India. The program aims to support the Government’s vision to Make in India and Make for World by addressing the need for skilled manpower with practical know-how and relevant industry experience.

Over the months, he has been able to rebuild his client base, and word of mouth has definitely helped build trust.

Deepak is finally stable now and is looking forward to expanding his business more parts of Gurugram.

Cheil India has won the silver award in the ‘Glass: The Lion for Change’ category at the prestigious Cannes Lions 2018 for the Samsung Technical School-Seema Nagar campaign. It had conceptualized the campaign for Samsung India.

The campaign film depicts the real life story of Seema Nagar, a young village girl who breaks stereotypes to achieve her dreams.

‘Glass: The Lion for Change’ at Cannes Lions 2018 celebrates culture-shifting creativity and recognizes work that implicitly or explicitly addresses issues of gender inequality or prejudice, through the conscious representation of gender in advertising.

Seema Nagar, the young girl from a small village near Jaipur, who defied odds to become a Samsung technician has become a household name. Samsung India’s campaign film caught public imagination and has been viewed 81 million times on YouTube, over 24 million of them women, the highest for any advertising video on YouTube in India.

The campaign, #SapneHueBade, is aimed at highlighting women empowerment. It showcases how Samsung cares for dreams of girls in India. The focus of the film is around the real life story of Ms Nagar, the trials and tribulations she goes through before entering Samsung Technical School and how it enables her to dream big.

After being trained at Samsung Technical School, Jaipur, she joined a Samsung Service Center in the same city. She also worked as a trainer in the same technical school where she studied.

Samsung Technical School, which is a part of Samsung’s citizenship initiative, was started in 2013 and aims to support the government’s vision to make India a global manufacturing hub by addressing the need for talented manpower with practical know-how and relevant industry experience. There are 22 such centres set up across India in collaboration with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Departments of Technical Education in different states such as Rajasthan, Kerala, Bihar, Delhi, West Bengal, Karnataka and Jharkhand.

Reinforcing its commitment to the government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign, Samsung also announced the MSME-Samsung Technical School Scholarship program for girls and differently-abled trainees.

These schools have so far trained over 4,000 youth and made them job-ready across different technical trades. Around 70% of these students have got jobs, 45% of them with Samsung service centres. The initiative is part of Samsung’s ‘Make for India’ initiative and contributes to the government’s Skill India mission.

Both these campaigns have been much appreciated in India and across the world.

Samsung India’s service campaign ‘We’ll Take Care of You, Wherever You Are’ showcases the journey of a young Samsung engineer on his way to provide services in a remote village in India, highlighting Samsung’s vision of creating long-lasting relationships with its consumers through timely service.

In February this year, the Samsung Service campaign film became the fastest among advertising videos on YouTube in India to cross 100 million views. It was also the highest-viewed advertising video in the Consumer Electronics and Smartphones category worldwide and the highest-viewed advertising video on YouTube across all categories in India. This is a testimony of consumer love and trust in brand Samsung.

In October 2016, Samsung , India’s most trusted brand in the mobile and consumer durables categories, strengthened its commitment to provide quality customer service in both urban and rural India by augmenting its service network with 535 service vans.

With this, Samsung India’s service network has grown to over 3,000 from 2,000 service points earlier, extending its reach to customers in over 6,000 talukas across the country. Samsung now has the largest service network in the mobile and consumer durables categories in India. These vans have travelled over 1 million kilometres across the country so far and have helped in bringing down the overall time taken for attending customer complaints in rural areas significantly.

The Samsung Technical School campaign (#SapneHueBade), on the other hand, went on to be viewed by over 80 million, over 24 million of them women, the highest for any advertising video on YouTube in India.

The digital campaign film, aimed at highlighting women empowerment, is based on the real life of Seema Nagar, a young girl from a small village near Jaipur, who defied odds to become a Samsung technician. She has now become a household name. The film depicts her trials and tribulations before she entered Samsung Technical School. Following her training at Samsung Technical School, Jaipur, Ms. Nagar took up a job at Samsung Service Center in the same city.

She recently got a government job with the same institute she got her technical education from and is now busy teaching students, inspiring them to dream big.

Samsung Technical School initiative was started in 2013 in collaboration with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Departments of Technical Education in different states such as Rajasthan, Kerala, Bihar, Delhi and West Bengal. Today, 22 Samsung Technical School have so far trained over 2,000 youth and made them job-ready across different technical trades. Through this initiative, Samsung aims to support the government’s vision to make India a global manufacturing hub by addressing the need for talented manpower with practical know-how and relevant industry experience.

In its recent campaigns, Samsung has been connecting with consumers through the warmth of the brand. It has launched several heart-warming campaigns such as the Samsung Smart Class campaign, the Samsung Technical School campaign, the Customer Service Vans campaign as well as the recent Samsung Safe India campaign that encourages people to use their mobile phones responsibly.
