When shopping for a new phone, you’ve probably read reviews and watched comparison videos in search of the “best” device.

While rankings can be helpful, they can’t answer the most important question: which phone is best for me? That answer depends on personal considerations like how you prefer to work, create and stay connected throughout your day.

Why Does Samsung Offer Multiple Foldable Form Factors?

The best foldable isn’t the same for everyone. That’s exactly why Samsung offers three distinct foldable designs with the new Galaxy Z series.

Whether you want to consolidate with a single mobile device that can power through your to-do list, a screen built for streaming and reading, or looking for something more compact and convenient, Galaxy Z series has options.

Through eight generations of refinement, Samsung understands what users want most from foldables. The new Galaxy Z series is the result of all that experience. Every device delivers in the areas users care about most: displays, durability, portability and performance.

As foldable smartphones move from niche innovation to an increasingly established category, there is an interesting story to be told about what it actually takes to build a phone that folds — and what years of developing the technology have taught Samsung about the future of mobile.

Samsung has been at the center of that evolution, from the first Galaxy Fold in 2019 to the increasingly refined Galaxy Z family today. Along the way, it has learned that successful foldables are not created by solving one engineering challenge. They require continuous learning across hardware, software, AI and, perhaps most importantly, human behavior.

Here are eight areas where Samsung has pushed foldables forward.

1. Making foldables more durable

The visible innovation may be a screen that folds, but making that possible requires solving challenges around durability, materials, display support and hinge engineering – challenges that simply don’t exist on conventional smartphones

Samsung’s new Flex Titanium technology in the Galaxy Z series uses a titanium-based display structure to strengthen the display support, improve durability and reduce crease visibility, while helping enable a thinner device1.

2. Making the fold feel seamless and effortless

Years of development have shown that the hinge isn’t just a mechanical component – it affects how naturally a device opens, how thin it can be and how comfortable it feels in everyday use.

The latest Galaxy Z series combines refinements to the hinge mechanism, display tension and folding magnets to make unfolding smoother and more natural. On the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, this contributes to a device measuring just 4.1mm when unfolded.

3. Turning bigger screens into new possibilities

Samsung has learned that additional screen real estate needs to enable genuinely different experiences, not simply provide more pixels.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces a new 4:3 main display, which is optimized for immersive viewing and gaming, while rotating the device creates a 3:4 ratio suited to reading and browsing. The larger canvas also supports content creation and editing through experiences such as My FanCam2.

4. Expanding what a foldable can look like

Consumer behavior has demonstrated that different people want different things from a foldable. Some want a larger workspace; others value compactness, self-expression or quick access.

Samsung now offers three distinct foldable experiences: Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra for productivity, Galaxy Z Fold8 for immersive discovery and Galaxy Z Flip8 for expression and quick interaction. These distinctions show how the form factor can be designed around different lifestyles rather than forcing consumers into just one definition of a foldable.

Image for illustration purposes only

5. Making hardware and software work as one

A phone that physically changes shape also needs software that can change with it. The experience has to flow naturally between screens, orientations and modes.

Samsung has increasingly designed the software experience around the physical flexibility of the devices, from Multi Window, AI-powered multitasking with Now Nudge3 and Gemini Notebook4 on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, to a more capable FlexWindow on the Galaxy Z Flip8, where users can access apps, information and actions without unfolding.

6. Bringing AI into the foldable experience

The next stage of smartphone AI isn’t simply about generating an answer. It is about understanding what the user is doing and helping them move from information to action.

Agentic AI is integrated into the Galaxy Z8 experience, helping users move more naturally between information, apps and actions. On Samsung’s new foldable series, the expanded screens also create a natural canvas for AI-powered productivity, including Gemini Notebook, which can bring together information from different sources and help users organize and work with their thoughts and content in one place. And ultimately, get more done.

7. Removing the barriers to better experiences

Years of real-world use have shown that users prefer the least amount of hassle when it comes to using their devices. Adapting to a new device starts even before the first use, so switching devices itself needs to feel effortless.

The latest generation of the Galaxy Z series brings greater flexibility not just to how consumers use their devices, but how they move into the Galaxy ecosystem. With Smart Switch5, users can wirelessly transfer important data such as contacts, photos, messages, apps and settings from their previous devices, including from iOS. With One UI 9 on the latest Galaxy Z series, iOS device users can initiate the transfer simply by scanning a QR code, remove another barrier to switching.

8. Turning a new form factor into a complete ecosystem

Perhaps the central takeaway: every generation creates new questions around engineering, usability and consumer behavior. The experience of answering those questions, generation after generation, becomes an advantage in itself.

The new Flex Titanium display structure, thinner form factors, redesigned display ratios, more capable FlexWindow experiences and deeper agentic AI integration – all of these features, and more, show how the eighth-generation Galaxy Z Series represents the cumulative result of years of iteration and consumer insight.

Do you remember the first time you ever saw a foldable mobile phone?

Modern foldables of today have evolved far beyond just a screen that folds. Samsung’s line-up now combines intelligent features with large displays for productivity, entertainment, and communication.

Since the introduction of the first Galaxy Fold in 2019, Samsung has been leveraging a deep understanding of consumer needs and strengthening expertise in this category. Valuable insights and experiences gained from seven generations of foldable innovation has resulted in the most complete line-up yet – the all-new Galaxy Z8 series.

This exciting line-up is resonating with consumers globally, including those in Southeast Asia and Oceania. In this region, sales of the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra have grown 40% compared to the Galaxy Z Fold7. The new series is also compelling more people in the region to embrace Samsung foldables, with switchers to the Galaxy Z Fold8 series from other brands increasing by more than 60% compared to those who made a switch to the previous Z Fold generation.

From the latest innovations unveiled in 2026, let’s trace Samsung’s evolution of foldable technology through the years – from its newest breakthroughs, all the way back to the debut of its very first foldable phone. Here’s how the journey unfolded.

Since introducing the first Galaxy Fold at 276 grams in 2019, Samsung Electronics has continued to expand what a foldable smartphone can be, advancing hinge and display design, durability and usability with every generation.

As those technologies evolved, Samsung focused on another challenge: making a large-screen foldable easier to carry every day, without losing the experiences that make the form factor unique.

And through that pursuit, Galaxy Z Fold5 weighed 253 grams, and Galaxy Z Fold6 reduced its weight further to 239 grams.

With Galaxy Z Fold7 came an even more ambitious goal:

“Could a foldable be lighter than a bar-type flagship smartphone?”

At the time, Galaxy S25 Ultra — one of Samsung’s flagship bar-type smartphones — weighed 218 grams. The development team set an even lighter target for Galaxy Z Fold7: 215 grams.

Galaxy Z Fold7 reached that goal. And now, building on years of foldable innovation, Galaxy Z Fold8 combines a new form factor with advances in core technologies, materials and internal architecture to weigh just 201 grams — 52 grams lighter than Galaxy Z Fold5. At 201 grams, Galaxy Z Fold8 is the world’s lightest fold1.

Galaxy Z Fold’s weight and thickness evolution by generation, from 276 grams and 17.1 millimeters with the first Galaxy Fold to Galaxy Z Fold8 at 201 grams and 9.7 millimeters, the world’s lightest foldable, alongside Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra at 8.9 millimeters thick.

But consumers expected more than just a lighter foldable.

A 2024 YouGov survey2 found that a bulky or heavy design remained a concern among consumers not planning to purchase foldables, while battery life, durability and display quality ranked as top priorities for those considering them.

This insight shaped a core engineering goal for Samsung: make foldables thinner and lighter, while maintaining the core experiences users value most.

Battery life, camera performance, thermal management and durability still had to advance.

That could not be achieved by changing a single component. Samsung engineers had to reimagine the entire device — advancing fundamental foldable technologies, introducing new materials and revisiting hundreds of components and auxiliary parts to the fraction-of-a-gram level.

From 253 grams to 201 grams. Three engineering innovations enabled that transformation.

From Galaxy Z Fold5 to Galaxy Z Fold8, Samsung reduced 52 grams to deliver the world’s lightest foldable.

The Thinner and Lighter a Foldable Gets, the More Precise the Engineering Must Become

Making a foldable thinner and lighter brings a new set of engineering challenges.

The layers inside the display need to become thinner while still meeting Samsung’s durability and reliability requirements. The metal plate supporting the display needs to stay extremely flat even as it becomes thinner. And the hinge has to manage the forces created every time the device folds and unfolds, while being designed around the size and structure of each product.

Across generations, Samsung has continued to advance the display layers, ultra-thin metal precision machining and hinge technologies central to its foldable devices.

One example is Flex Titanium.

The displays in Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra use Flex Titanium technology featuring a Titanium Alloy Film designed for the foldable display structure.

The film is just tens of micrometers thick — roughly one-third the width of a human hair. Its material and structure work together to maintain performance at this extreme thickness.

The metal plate that supports the display presents a different challenge.

Some metal plates are machined to approximately 0.2 millimeters thick, with the thinnest sections reaching 0.15 millimeters. At that level, simply making the metal thinner is not enough. Thin metal can bend or warp more easily during machining, and even a small change in shape can affect assembly precision or the surface quality of the display.

What matters is the ability to machine ultra-thin metal at around 0.2 millimeters while consistently achieving the required shape and flatness.

Samsung refined the machining sequence, tooling, cooling conditions and process parameters, breaking the process into multiple stages to maintain precision.

The hinge requires the same level of care.

Beyond simply opening and closing the phone, it must distribute the forces created by repeated folding and unfolding across the device while maintaining structural stability.

And these requirements vary by product size and architecture.

Samsung engineers the hinge for each form factor, carefully balancing load distribution, strength, durability, internal space and weight rather than just scaling it down from one generation to the next.

Creating a thinner and lighter foldable requires more than downsizing individual parts.

It comes from greater precision in how materials are machined, how forces are managed and how structures are designed within a limited space.

Lighter, Built for Strength — Starting With the Materials

The second area is materials innovation.

Different parts of a foldable have very different jobs. Some demand high rigidity. Some must withstand repeated movement. Others need to spread heat efficiently.

Samsung selects and develops materials around those specific needs, delivering the performance each requires while optimizing weight and space.

In Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Flex Titanium incorporates a Titanium Alloy Film to support the foldable display structure.

For the exterior, Samsung uses Advanced Armor Aluminum, helping provide the strength and durability needed in a thin and lightweight frame.

Materials also play an important role in thermal management.

As a device gets thinner, there is less room to manage the heat generated inside. Samsung uses graphite with improved thermal performance, while tailoring the overall thermal structure to the size and performance requirements of each product.

In Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which has similar overall dimensions to Galaxy Z Fold7, the volume of the graphite heat-dissipation layer was increased by approximately 7% to help support its enhanced performance.

Samsung also applies Clad Metal inside the rear of the device. By combining the characteristics of different metals, the material helps reduce weight while providing the thermal performance required within a thin structure.

Materials innovation is therefore not just about choosing lighter options, but about using the right material in the right place to deliver the performance each part needs with less weight and space.

Looking Again at the Entire Device — Down to 0.001 Grams

Only so much can be achieved through core technologies and new materials alone.

In a foldable already packed with highly integrated components, finding the next few grams means looking again at almost everything inside the device.

Samsung engineers reviewed approximately 270 components and more than 180 types of auxiliary parts.

This spanned everything from the display, hinge and cameras to circuit boards, antennas, brackets, tapes and fasteners.

The precision extended to reductions of 0.1 grams and 0.1 millimeters, and in some auxiliary parts, as little as 0.001 grams.

The printed circuit board, or PCB, was redesigned to remove unnecessary circuits, improve component layout and minimize its footprint.

The MFC(Magnetic Flux Channel) antenna was also reimagined to reduce unnecessary overlap and interference with surrounding components, allowing the limited internal space to be used more efficiently.

Every auxiliary part, no matter how small, was examined.

Of the more than 180 types previously used, approximately 15 were eliminated.

Engineers then reviewed the remaining 170 types trimming oversized areas, refining shapes and optimizing dimensions. Multiple parts were consolidated into single structures where possible.

In some cases, the savings were measured in increments as small as 0.001 grams.

Each change seems minor in isolation, but repeated across the device, fractions of a gram become tenths of a gram, then whole grams.

The weight savings on a finished device result from hundreds of small engineering decisions.

Finding 6 Grams Again to Make Room for More

The goal was to reinvest the weight and space recovered through engineering into the capabilities people actually experience — including the battery, cameras and thermal system.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra provides a separate example of how this approach can be applied.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold7 have similar overall dimensions and both weigh 215 grams. But within that same weight, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra increases battery capacity from 4,400 mAh to 5,000 mAh.

That larger battery brought its own challenge: the battery itself added approximately 6 grams.

So the development team faced a new question:

“Where could we find those 6 grams again?”

There was no single component that could provide the answer.

Instead, engineers applied the same systematic approach across the entire device — materials and structures, circuit layouts and component placement, down to the smallest auxiliary parts — identifying weight savings across all components.

This strategy extended to internal space optimization.

By reducing unnecessary overlap between the display, circuits, antennas and surrounding components, and by improving packaging efficiency, Samsung created room for a larger battery and enhanced thermal and camera systems.

As a result, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra accommodates a 5,000 mAh battery while increasing the volume of its graphite heat-dissipation layer by approximately 7% compared with the similarly sized Galaxy Z Fold7.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features a 200 MP main camera and introduces the first 50 MP Ultra-Wide camera on a Galaxy Z Fold device.

Samsung’s approach to a thinner and lighter foldable is therefore not about removing capabilities.

It is about redirecting weight and space savings toward the flagship experiences users value most.

From 253 Grams to 201 Grams: Redefining the Weight Standard for Foldables

The journey began with the first Galaxy Fold at 276 grams in 2019. Across eight generations, Samsung has continued to advance the technologies, materials and internal architecture behind the foldable experience.

In recent generations, that progress accelerated — from 253 grams with Galaxy Z Fold5 to 201 grams with Galaxy Z Fold8.

But the story isn’t just about reducing weight.

Samsung’s goal has been to make a large-screen foldable easier to carry without giving up the qualities users expect from a flagship smartphone.

The weight and space recovered through advances in core technologies, materials and component design were put back into the battery, cameras, thermal system and other flagship experiences users value most.

From 253 grams to 201 grams.

No single material or component made that transformation possible.

Eight generations of engineering enabled this, advancing core technologies, introducing new materials and rethinking the entire device to make Galaxy Z Fold easier to carry without compromising the flagship experience.

[Factoid] Galaxy Z Fold Series: A Thinner, Lighter Journey in Numbers

Q. Can I edit photos and videos directly on the Galaxy Z8 Series?

Yes. The Galaxy Z8 Series lets users capture, edit, and share photos and video in one continuous flow, without switching to another device. On the expansive foldable display, Galaxy AI editing tools — including My FanCam, which keeps a chosen person centered in a saved video — make polished edits faster on the phone itself.

Q. What camera sensors does the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra have?

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has different options that users can choose according to their needs. The 200 MP Wide with 2x optical quality zoom is great for ultra-high-resolution photos and advanced detail. The 10 MP Telephoto with 3x optical zoom delivers clear shots even when zoomed in. For expansive landscape and group photos, users can pick the 50 MP Ultra Wide.

Meanwhile, the 10 MP cover screen camera is ideal for sharp natural selfies and the 10 MP main screen’s camera has a 100-degree field of view so users can get more people in the shot when taking group selfies.

Q. Can I transfer my data from another phone to a Galaxy Z8 series device?

Yes. With the updated Smart Switch, iOS users scan a QR code and transfer data wirelessly — including passwords, passkeys, call history, accessibility settings and eSIM data — without downloading additional apps.

You’re probably familiar with the gaps that happen every day – the half-made dinner plan in a group chat, meeting notes scattered across three apps, and that one tiny thing you meant to sort out three hours ago. But stress no more – with Galaxy AI on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8, get ready to transform your thoughts into action.

You heard that right – Galaxy AI on the new Z8 series has been optimized to each of the foldable form factors, with intuitive helpful features that make it easier to stay in control of your day, even when life gets busy.

And what’s great is that all this intelligence happens on a screen that unfolds into an expansive display — so the conversation you’re having and the task you’re working on can sit side by side if you wish, providing helpful reference when needed, while reducing the hassle of toggling between apps. Another good part? If you’re reading this on a mobile that’s not Galaxy, getting here might be even easier than you think.

For many people, the morning usually begins with a dozen things half-loaded in mind — an upcoming work deadline, a reply you owe a friend, a dinner plan with family for tonight — and keeping them straight has been your job alone. Now Brief1 takes on that job, surfacing personalized insights tailored to your routines, interests and daily needs. Without unfolding your Galaxy Z Flip8, the FlexWindow also offers a view of the day’s weather, schedule and important notifications at a glance.

In 2026, Now Brief also keeps an eye out for you, by surfacing security and privacy insights, as well as flagging potential risks alongside the day’s priorities. By the time your first coffee is done, you already have everything you need to know for the day ahead.

Anticipating the Next Step

How can the Galaxy Z8 series help me coordinate and manage my schedule?

Late morning, a dinner plan starts to take shape in your group chat. Everyone’s keen, but no one’s checked a schedule or picked a place — and this is exactly where plans usually stall. Now Nudge2 catches them: when plans begin brewing in a conversation, it surfaces relevant next steps like checking calendars for a suitable date and time to keep things moving.

On the Galaxy Z Fold8’s unfolded main display, those suggestions sit right beside the conversation, so the chat can continue while your plan comes together – less manual effort but more progress.

Getting Things Done

How can my mobile phone help me finish tasks with less effort?

Knowing what you need to do is the first step. But having to toggle between three different apps can be a big obstacle. With the hassle of tab-switching and copy-pasting, it’s no wonder tasks get abandoned halfway. But with Galaxy AI on Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z8 Series, when you need something, all you have to do is simply ask.

Gemini Intelligence can help you move from request to result in fewer steps: simply describe what you need in a natural voice or through text, or add screen or image context. App automation3 works across more than 40 supported apps and services — whether it’s looking up tickets, finding a nearby restaurant and making the reservation.

On the Galaxy Z Flip8, such automation4 is even easier to access: the AI-ready FlexWindow lets you cue connected actions with a side-key press or a natural voice request. You don’t even have to open the device for Automation – you can cue and monitor progress directly on the cover screen. The dinner plan that began in your group chat an hour ago? That’s now a confirmed table.

Turning Scattered Information into Useful Outputs

Can my mobile phone help me quickly organize my meeting notes?

By afternoon, a long meeting has just ended, and the recap you owe your team lives everywhere at once — a voice memo, photos of a whiteboard, half-typed notes in two languages.

Gemini Notebook is that one, consistent workplace where you can collect, organize and develop your ideas. Whether your content is in notes, images, recordings, files, or document format, use Gemini Notebook to transform that content into meeting recaps, reports, visual summaries, infographics or audio overviews.

On the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, drag-and-drop in Split view makes your workflow even more direct and simple: retain your source material on one side of the 8.0-inch main display5, and see the finished recap taking shape on the other. Getting organized – even on the go – then becomes one shareable document with minimal time and effort.

Ending the Day a Step Ahead

Usually the day just ends — whatever didn’t get done rolls quietly into tomorrow, unexamined. This evening looks different. Dinner’s booked and the recap’s sent so you can wind down today and calmly look forward to tomorrow.

Seven years ago, Samsung set out to redefine what a smartphone could be.

At the time, foldable devices represented more than a new category of technology. They represented a question: could a smartphone become fundamentally different from the slab we had known for decades? Could a device change its shape to change the way we live, work, create and experience content?

Samsung believed the answer was yes.

Today, as we introduce the latest Galaxy Z8 Series in Malaysia, that belief has evolved into years of innovation, engineering and learning. We are in our eighth year of pushing boundaries, listening to consumers and challenging ourselves to imagine what comes next.

Our journey has never been about creating a device that simply folds. It has been about creating experiences that could not exist on a conventional smartphone.

Innovation, after all, is not about technology for technology’s sake. It is about using technology to unlock experiences that were previously impossible.

This philosophy is particularly evident in the evolution of our foldable portfolio.

While Galaxy Z Fold has continually redefined what a foldable smartphone can be, this year marks an exciting new chapter in that journey with the introduction of a new foldable form factor with the Galaxy Z Fold8. It is not simply another variation of an existing design. It represents a new category within foldables, created around a different way of experiencing mobile content.

At its heart is a simple idea: when the experience demands more, the screen should give you more.

The expansive display is designed to bring immersive experiences closer to the way they were meant to be experienced. Whether watching a film, exploring rich visual content, viewing photos, gaming or simply immersing yourself in the content you love, the larger canvas creates a sense of scale and engagement that a traditional smartphone cannot replicate.

It is a shift from simply having more screen to experiencing content in a fundamentally different way. And that is what makes this new form factor so meaningful. We did not begin with the question of how we could make a larger foldable. We began by asking what people could do if they had a larger, more immersive canvas that could still fit into the mobile experience. The answer is a device designed around the moments when immersion matters. This is the essence of Samsung’s approach to foldable innovation: the form factor should serve the experience.

Over seven generations, we have made our foldables thinner, lighter and more durable. We have refined the hinge, strengthened the display and advanced the materials and engineering behind every generation. But the real measure of that progress is not found in specifications alone. It is found in what people can do with the device.

That is why our foldables have evolved from being a technological curiosity into a category that is increasingly becoming part of everyday life.

The latest Galaxy Z Fold8 continues this philosophy by bringing together a new form factor, an expansive display, Galaxy AI and the connected Galaxy ecosystem. Together, these technologies allow us to rethink not only how a smartphone looks, but how it behaves and how people experience it.

For content, this means more room to immerse.

For creativity, it means more canvas to explore.

For productivity, it means more space to work.

And for everyday experiences, it means a device that can adapt to different moments and different ways of interacting.

This is where we believe the future of mobile technology becomes particularly exciting.

The next chapter of innovation will not be defined simply by adding more technology. It will be defined by how seamlessly that technology fits into our lives, and how naturally new technology can open experiences we did not previously think were possible.

A device should not ask people to change the way they live just to accommodate technology. Instead, technology should evolve around people.

That belief has guided Samsung for seven years of foldable leadership.

Being a pioneer is not simply about being first. It is about having the conviction to invest in an idea before its potential is fully understood, the discipline to keep improving it, and the vision to continue redefining what comes next.

Seven generations of Galaxy Z have taught us that innovation is a journey, not a destination.

And our latest generation represents another step forward, not only in how a foldable device is designed, but in how we think about the experiences it can create.

The future of mobile is no longer constrained by the shape of the smartphone we have always known.

A screen can become larger when immersion matters. A device can take on a new shape when the experience calls for it. And technology can become more intuitive when it is designed around people rather than limitations.

This is why we continue to lead with foldable innovation.

Because the greatest opportunity of this technology is not simply that a screen can bend.

It is that a different form can unlock a different experience.

As we enter the next chapter of Galaxy Z, our ambition remains unchanged: to challenge the familiar, redefine what is possible and create technology around the experiences people want to have.

Seven years ago, we showed the world that smartphones could take a new shape.

Today, we are showing what becomes possible when that new shape is designed around a new way of experiencing the world.

The future does not have to look like the past. Sometimes, all it takes is a new form to unlock an entirely new experience.

And at Samsung, we intend to keep leading the way.

At Galaxy Unpacked this July, Samsung unveiled the newest additions to the Galaxy portfolio, continuing the legacy, innovation and leadership that have defined the foldable category across generations of the Galaxy Z series.

Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra combine intelligent capabilities with innovative form factors to deliver more personal and adaptive experiences while setting a new standard for the AI era.

Is it time for an upgrade? Here’s how the latest Galaxy Z series foldables unfold new experiences:

Thinner and Lighter

It’s no secret that Samsung is always working to deliver devices that integrate into your life seamlessly. Part of doing that is creating devices that feel comfortable and natural to use. New generations of Galaxy Z series foldables offer thinner and lighter designs, and when it comes to Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip8, the difference is clear. Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is thinner than Galaxy Z Fold7, and Galaxy Z Flip8 is nearly 0.5 mm thinner and 8 g lighter than Galaxy Z Flip7. The new Galaxy Z Fold8 is Samsung’s lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet at just 201 g.[1]

Elevated Camera Experiences

Galaxy Z Fold8’s dual 50 MP cameras deliver consistent high-resolution detail across wide and ultra-wide perspectives.

We know that camera capabilities play a huge role in your decision to upgrade or not. So, year after year, we innovate toward offering the best camera experience possible with options that best suit your needs.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features the most powerful camera experience ever offered in the Galaxy Z series. The 200 MP Wide camera and upgraded 50 MP Ultra Wide camera allow you to take scenic shots in high-resolution detail. Plus, wider apertures on the Ultra-Wide sensor provide improved brightness compared with Galaxy Z Fold7. And the new My FanCam[2] feature gives you added versatility to reframe and track the subject of your video.

Galaxy Z Flip8 gives you the ability to go hands-free with FlexCam while the lens picks up true-to-life details, so your pictures are always authentically you. Plus, Super Steady now offers a Horizontal Lock[3] option to help keep your footage looking smooth.

Better Battery Life and Performance

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra’s larger 5,000 mAh battery helps users stay productive for longer, supporting a full day of work, creation and entertainment in a slimmer foldable design.

No one wants to be interrupted by a low battery while they’re mid-scroll, mid-call or mid-game. The 5000 mAh battery[4] on Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra protects against that. Engineered to maintain a slim frame, the battery powers an expansive screen without compromising design, so you can enjoy up to 27 hours of video content before a quick refuel session with Super-Fast charging.[5]

When it comes to Galaxy Z Flip8, you get powerful performance to support all the ways you creatively express yourself. Powered by Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, Flip8 will help you to handle demanding days without breaking your flow. The advanced NPU delivers 41% faster AI performance compared to Z Flip7, while the improved GPU provides optimized graphics performance, and the CPU provides 30% faster processing.

Try Something New Entirely

Galaxy Z Fold8 is Samsung’s all-new foldable form factor. The shorter, wider design enables Galaxy Z Fold8 to shift naturally and fluidly to match the ways you enjoy content.

The 10:16 cover screen is ideal for scrolling social media, and the immersive 4:3 main screen is great for unfolding to enjoy movies and e-books.[6] Whichever you choose, optimized aspect ratios on both screens enable you to watch content exactly how you want. Plus, anti-reflection on the main screen and 3000 nits of brightness provide better clarity indoors or outdoors, while new Flex Titanium technology strengthens display support, absorbs pressure and impact, and reduces crease visibility over time for a better viewing experience.

But it’s more than just a new form factor. Galaxy Z Fold8 features powerful performance, dual 50 MP cameras and Fold-optimized AI experiences.

Ready to Make the Switch?

If you’re looking to boost your productivity, upgrade to Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra for a slim and sleek design with Ultra performance, a long-lasting battery[7] and an Ultra camera.

Leaning into creativity? Upgrading to Galaxy Z Flip8 will give you more ways to express yourself using Samsung’s most pocketable foldable.

Samsung Electronics officially launches the new Galaxy Z series and Galaxy Watch line-up in Southeast Asia and Oceania, with the devices available across the region from 14 August 2026 onwards. Before the start of official sales, the region achieved a record high volume of pre-order foldables sales in Southeast Asia and Oceania with the launch of Galaxy Z8 series. Total sales of the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra devices were almost 60% higher compared to the Galaxy Z Fold7.

Since its unveiling, the Galaxy Z8 series has seen positive consumer response across the globe – with pre-orders for the new lineup increasing by more than 30% compared with the previous generation. Demand for the new devices in Southeast Asia and Oceania has also been robust. The Galaxy Z Fold8 has emerged as the most popular option in the region, accounting for almost six in every ten Galaxy Z8 devices ordered.

[1]

Built on seven generations of accumulated foldable technology and expertise, the new Galaxy Z series introduced an even more powerful foldable lineup and drew significant attention from the outset. The new line-up also resonated with the younger audience in Southeast Asia and Oceania, with consumers in their teens through 30s making up almost 60% of Galaxy Z8 series customers who placed their orders through Samsung.com.

By color, Graphite and Lavender were the most popular among Southeast Asia and Oceania consumers who went for the Galaxy Z Fold8, while Violet Shadow and Graphite were preferred for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Pink was the top color for the Galaxy Z Flip8.

The Galaxy Z Fold8, optimized for immersive viewing of content popular among younger consumers — including short-form videos, webtoons, games and e-books — led demand. This fresh form factor supports immersive viewing, reading and gaming on the 4:3 main display[2] and at just 201g, it is Samsung’s lightest Galaxy Z Fold.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, appealed to consumers who prioritize productivity with its large-screen experience. Its expansive 8-inch main display offers more room for multitasking and an upgraded camera system helps users capture richer detail, color, and clarity. The Galaxy Z Flip8 is designed for those who value maximum portability – it is Samsung’s sleekest Flip ever released – and self-expression.
