Zero Trust is a security framework that replaces implicit trust with explicit trust by continuously assessing security posture, risk and trust levels based on context. The current security solutions market is dominated by network-centric Zero Trust solutions that focus on securing access at the network edge. Unfortunately, this approach by itself neglects a critical blind spot: the endpoint. Endpoints have the largest attack surface and are the most challenging IT assets to protect against cyberattacks. In most cases, they are the most vulnerable points in an organization’s IT ecosystem.

Zero Trust principles for endpoints, when realized correctly, ensure that access requests from endpoints are handled based on context that correlates with the device’s security posture and the user’s needs, and are continuously verified in real time. Although there is no definitive list of core principles behind Zero Trust endpoint protection, the following principles are the most commonly adopted:

• “Never trust, always verify” approach for devices: Devices should no longer be implicitly trusted just because they are within the network boundary. Instead, each device needs to prove its trustworthiness before being granted access.
• Continuous risk assessment and enforcement: Endpoint protection must be agile and ready to adapt to constantly changing risk conditions. This means continuously evaluating context — such as location, time of access and the device’s security posture — and dynamically adjusting security policies accordingly. Suspicious activity needs to be addressed through enforcement actions such as access restrictions or complete isolation.
• Restricted privileges and narrowly scoped access: Endpoints must enforce access control in real time based on context while ensuring privileges are granted dynamically with a narrow scope.
• Incorporation of user identity, device posture and behavioral signals: A Zero Trust-compliant solution needs to make granular and informed trust decisions to enforce tight access controls. To enable such decisions, Zero Trust’s continuous evaluation of context integrates user identity, device posture and behavioral signals.

While the Zero Trust security strategy is growing in adoption, Samsung is fully embracing it. By doing so, we are helping to protect the most vulnerable points in an organization’s IT landscape. Risks related to endpoint security are constantly increasing as cloud-based applications, Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programs and remote work prevail in the modern workplace environment. Other features like Knox Matrix Credential Sync secures user information through end-to-end encryption as it moves between devices, while a Cross Platform SDK ensures consistent security standards across different operating systems like Android, Tizen, and Windows. How Samsung Products Achieve the UL Solutions Diamond-Level Ratings

To provide users with peace of mind, it is crucial to determine that the robot vacuum cleaner has strong security capabilities. Especially in case of Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra,[4] the premium model in the series, uses a camera during the cleaning process and offers features such as home monitoring through SmartThings connectivity.[5] Similarly, robust security measures are essential to Samsung’s screen-based appliances, which can monitor other home appliances and store user information in the web browser.

To establish this standard of protection, Samsung has applied Samsung Knox, which provides a multi-layered security system. The UL Solutions IoT Security Rating Program

UL Solutions is a global safety science leader that evaluates marketing claims for smart devices through objective, rigorous and science-based evaluation. Its IoT Security Rating Program verifies a brand’s marketing claims about its product’s IoT security capabilities and ranks those capabilities on five levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond.

The Diamond-level rating is the highest in the program. Only products that successfully detect and block malicious software, prevent unauthorized access and anonymize user data can earn a Diamond-level rating. Next-Generation Mobile Security for AI Personalization

Samsung is introducing Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP),[1] a new architecture designed to safeguard the next generation of personalized, AI-powered features, as its latest innovation in mobile security. KEEP creates encrypted, app-specific storage environments within the device’s secure storage area, ensuring that each app can access only its own sensitive information and nothing more.

Supporting Galaxy’s Personal Data Engine (PDE),[2] KEEP helps secure a user’s deeply personal insights – such as routines and preferences – that enable features like Now Brief and Smart Gallery search. These insights stay entirely on-device, protected by KEEP and further secured by Knox Vault, Samsung’s tamper-resistant hardware security environment. The result is a seamless foundation for Galaxy AI that delivers personalized intelligence while keeping data tightly contained and under the user’s control.

KEEP’s system-level structure allows it to scale across Galaxy AI innovations. In addition to PDE, it now protects Now Brief, Smart Suggestions and other on-device features that rely on user-specific inputs – enabling more advanced AI experiences without compromising privacy. With KEEP, Samsung is redefining how mobile devices safeguard data in the background to elevate privacy from a setting to an embedded design principle.

Smarter, More Connected Threat Response with Knox Matrix

As AI becomes more integrated across the ecosystem, Samsung is advancing protections that offer not just stronger security, but greater transparency and control for users, with Knox Matrix leading the way. Through One UI 8, Samsung is evolving Knox Matrix to deliver more proactive and user-friendly protection for connected Galaxy devices. When a device is flagged for serious risk – such as system manipulation or identity forgery – it is designed to automatically sign out of the Samsung Account, cutting off access to cloud-connected services to prevent threats from spreading.[3]

Users are notified across their connected Galaxy devices and guided to the ‘Security status of your devices’ page, where they can review the issue and take action. Even devices without the latest security status updates trigger a yellow-level warning, helping users respond before vulnerabilities grow.

Together, these updates make Samsung Galaxy’s ecosystem-level protection more dynamic, intuitive and visible, empowering users to maintain trust across all their devices with more confidence and clarity.

Secure Wi-Fi Strengthened with Quantum-Resistant Encryption

In continuation of its commitment to quantum-safe security, Samsung is bringing post-quantum cryptography to Secure Wi-Fi,[4] extending the trusted approach first introduced on the Galaxy S25 series through Post-Quantum Enhanced Data Protection (EDP). Secure Wi-Fi is now being upgraded with a new cryptographic framework[5] designed to strengthen network protection against emerging threats, particularly those anticipated in the era of quantum computing. This enhancement secures the key exchange process at the core of encrypted connections, helping ensure robust privacy even over public networks.

Quantum computing, once fully realized, could undermine many of today’s data protection methods. By integrating post-quantum cryptography, Secure Wi-Fi is built to withstand future attacks that capture encrypted data with the intent to break it once quantum technology matures – a tactic known as “harvest now, decrypt later.” This upgrade fortifies the secure tunnel between Galaxy devices and Samsung servers, reinforcing the integrity of data transmissions in high-risk environments like public Wi-Fi.

In addition to this future-ready foundation, Secure Wi-Fi offers a suite of advanced privacy features:

• Auto Protect: Automatically activates in public places like cafés, airports or hotels, securing Wi-Fi connections without requiring user action.
• Enhanced Privacy Protection (EPP): Encrypts internet traffic and routes it through multiple layers, combining packet encryption and relay to anonymize device information and help prevent tracking.

[4] Secure Folder offers users a separate and protected area of their phone or tablet to store sensitive apps and data. It allows users to set up separate profiles which can duplicate your apps. Users can customize the Secure Folder app and set up their own lock type, including PIN, pattern, password and fingerprint. For enhanced security, Secure Folder users are also provided with an option to hide and encrypt the Secure Folder, which helps keep data safe from advanced cybersecurity threats. While hidden, the apps will stop working to keep your data safe. Once the Secure Folder is opened again, the encryption will be deactivated, and the apps will resume normal operation.

Samsung recently started rolling out One UI 7 with security updates to existing features, including additional theft protection and anti-robbery features. These will now also be available to even more devices, having started with the launch of the Galaxy S25 series in February, and now expanding across more Galaxy smartphones throughout the year.

Samsung is introducing new security updates to better protect users in the event of phone theft. One major update is Theft Protection – a multi-layered suite of features developed to safeguard personal data, even in high-risk situations such as robbery.

Theft Protection builds on standard Android safeguards, which are effective in typical theft scenarios where the thief doesn’t know the PIN. With One UI 7, Samsung goes further by introducing additional protections that address more advanced or high-risk threat scenarios, including cases where access credentials may have been exposed.

Galaxy users can now enable a range of new security measures, including Identity Check, designed to offer stronger protection in complex theft scenarios. These features respond automatically and intelligently to suspicious activity, helping ensure that personal data remains secure and under the user’s control in these critical moments.

Existing and updated features in Theft Protection include:

• Theft Detection Lock: This uses machine learning to detect motions associated with theft such as snatching, and instantly locks the screen to stop unauthorized access.
• Offline Device Lock: The screen gets automatically locked if the device is disconnected from the network for an extended period, ensuring protection even when the device is offline.
• Remote Lock: If the device has already been stolen, users can lock it remotely using their phone number and a quick verification step. Remote Lock also allows users to regain control of their account and explore additional recovery options.

New Anti-Robbery features released on One UI 7 include:

• Identity Check: In unfamiliar locations, the ‘Safe Places’ feature requires biometric authentication for any changes to sensitive security settings, adding an additional layer of protection when a PIN may have been compromised.
  • Security Delay: A key component of Identity Check, it triggers a one-hour waiting period if someone attempts to reset biometric data. This crucial buffer gives users time to lock the stolen phone from a connected device, such as a PC or tablet, before unauthorized access can occur.

These updated theft features are now becoming available on previous flagship devices, starting with the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold6, Z Flip6, Z Fold5, Z Flip 5, S23 and S22 series,  with future updates planned for even more Galaxy smartphones.

How to remotely lock your Samsung Galaxy device:

• Sign into Samsung Find using your Samsung account
• Select your phone on the left-hand side of the page, then choose Lost Mode in the device details section
• Create a PIN to unlock your phone if recovered, and enter it twice to confirm
• You will have the option to add an emergency contact and a custom message that will display on the locked screen (It’s recommended to skip this step to avoid sharing personal contact details)

How to remotely delete data on your Samsung Galaxy device:

• All the data on your mobile, including Samsung Pay information, will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered

• It is recommended to change the passwords for your Samsung and Google accounts (or whichever accounts are linked to your device) by signing in through their respective websites
• Once changed, you will be signed out of all connected devices, except the one you’re using
• This prevents unauthorized access to account-linked features and protects your personal information

How to track your Galaxy device:

If your device is turned on and connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data, its last known location will appear on a map

• Sign in with the Samsung account associated with your device (or a guardian’s account)
• If multiple devices are linked to your account, they will all appear – select the one you want to locate
• You’ll see its current or last known location

Q1: How do you see smartphones evolving in the ongoing AI revolution?

It is safe to say that generative AI is becoming the transformative technological development of our time. At Samsung, we believe smartphones will empower this AI revolution as the main way that people experience this powerful technology.

Since launching the Galaxy S24 series last year, Samsung has led the way in creating powerful smartphones with seamless AI integration. One year on, I am glad to say that we have reached a point where AI is no longer a futuristic technology, but something that is built into the devices that we use every day.

And we are just beginning to see AI’s true potential! Devices like the Galaxy S25 series will continue to transform how we interact with technology, whether in our creative work or daily communications. Which is why we are dedicated to bringing Galaxy AI to as many users as possible worldwide.

Q2: What are consumers looking for in a smartphone today, and how is that changing with AI?

Our Customer and Marketing Insights team recently conducted a survey[1], which revealed what matters most to users across Southeast Asia and Oceania:

1. Advanced camera features
2. Integrated AI capabilities
3. Improved durability
4. Long-lasting battery
5. High-performance processing for AI and gaming.

This highlights an important shift in consumer expectations — just 18 months ago, AI would not have been a consideration for smartphone users, and now it is a top priority. The key word here is “integration” – consumers expect that AI will not be an entirely new, independent thing, but an enhancement of how they already use their mobile devices. And as the technology evolves, people will expect their smartphones to act as intelligent assistants that understand and adapt to their needs as individuals – in an integrated and personalized way.

This type of insight helps to guide our development efforts, as we continue exploring AI’s potential to create more meaningful experiences for Samsung users.

Q3: What does “personalization” mean in the context of mobile AI?

In a region like SEAO with its melting pot of diverse cultures, a one-size-fits-all approach simply will not work. In this context, technologies like generative AI present a powerful opportunity for us to deliver more personalized and meaningful experiences to Samsung users. That is why personalization and integration are the cornerstones of Galaxy AI, and for the Galaxy S25 series. The way we see it, true AI personalization means that technology learns from your unique patterns and preferences to deliver experiences tailored specifically to you.

Take for instance, the Now Brief[2] feature on the new Galaxy S25 series. Now Brief acts like an information hub that delivers tailored updates and information to you throughout the day, accessible either through the dedicated Now Brief home screen widget, or via the Now Bar. Tapping on the Morning Brief button first thing in the morning can deliver the weather forecast, traffic information, and your calendar for the day, for example.

As you continue using this feature, your phone learns from your behavior and personalizes the information it shows you. Over time, these suggestions become more relevant to your specific preferences and interests. For example, showing you news summaries from your most-read sources or reminding you of your friend’s birthday.

The real breakthrough comes when AI understands not just what you do, but the context around it. Through features like Writing Assist, Galaxy AI is able to recognize the context of what is displayed on your screen such as emails and messages to summarize content for you without the need to switch between applications.

Q4: You mentioned that camera features are a top priority for consumers. How is AI enhancing photography, and is it changing the photo taking experience for them?

Most of us primarily use our smartphones for getting information, for creating memories or for connecting with others. This is especially true when it comes to the smartphone camera, which is particularly important to customers in Southeast Asia and Oceania.

What’s fascinating is how Galaxy AI enhances photography in ways that feel naturally integrated with existing behaviors. We have designed AI camera features that do not change the familiar photo-taking experience itself but dramatically improve the end results. Take features like Object Eraser, Best Face, and Audio Eraser — these are AI-enabled innovations that do not interfere with how you capture the moment, but they give you unprecedented control over the final image or video simply from your fingertips.

For instance, the ProVisual Engine in the Galaxy S25 series works with the device’s first 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera to capture stunning landscapes and group shots with remarkable detail. Then AI steps in afterward to let you make your photo or video even better – by removing photo-bombers, by eliminating background noise from your videos, or by selecting the best face of each individual in group photos, to ensure everyone is looking their best.

This approach enables people to create photos and videos exactly as they want them, preserving the moment as they remember it, without overly complicating or interfering with the photo-taking experience itself. That is the power of thoughtfully integrated AI – it enhances our capabilities and provides better experiences – all while not getting in the way!

Q5: How are you balancing personalization with privacy concerns?

This is the most critical question in the AI era. Personalization requires data, but users rightfully demand control over their personal information. We believe that advanced AI and strong privacy protection must evolve together — they are two sides of the same coin.

Our approach to AI in this context is rooted in both transparency and control. People should always understand how their data is being used and have granular control over what information AI systems can access. This builds trust, which is essential for wider AI adoption.

As such, we want to give users the flexibility to personalize their privacy and security settings, exactly according to their preferences. Users can decide which Galaxy AI feature to operate on their device, with the choice to opt out of cloud-based processing[3].

The new Galaxy S25 series features a Personal Data Engine[4], which safely analyzes your data on-device to deliver highly tailored experiences that reflect your preferences and usage patterns. Ensuring privacy and mobile security remains a key focus for all of us at Samsung in this AI-driven era, as users have the right to understand how their data is being used and to control the level of AI intervention in their digital lives.

At Samsung we recognize that there is no privacy without security, and our defense-grade Samsung Knox security platform[5] is built to protect users’ personal data. Q6: Looking ahead, how do you see mobile AI evolving over the next few years?

We are just beginning to scratch the surface of what is possible. We are already seeing AI becoming more “multimodal”; capable of processing and connecting information across different formats like text, images, voice, and sensor data.

Most importantly, AI will become more democratized. Advanced capabilities that once required specialized knowledge or expensive hardware will become accessible to everyone through their smartphones. This democratization of AI has the potential to level playing fields and empower people in unprecedented ways.

Samsung Electronics has been working on a new form of cutting-edge mobile security, starting from the Galaxy S25 series. Known as post-quantum cryptography (PQC), the technology uses advanced algorithms to future-proof against the potential risks that quantum computing poses to traditional encryption methods.

Eyes on the Horizon

Quantum computing represents one of the most transformative fields in modern technology, offering unparalleled problem-solving capabilities. By harnessing the power of quantum computers, complex challenges can be solved exponentially faster than with traditional computing — unlocking breakthroughs in numerous industries from medicine to logistics. For instance, quantum algorithms could streamline supply chains or improve punctuality in transportation systems.

However, this immense computational power comes with risks. Because quantum algorithms have the potential to break certain encryption methods used to safeguard today’s data, addressing this vulnerability is critical to ensuring data protection in the future.

While quantum computing is not expected to reach full-scale implementation immediately, early action is essential to protection against “harvest now, decrypt later” threats — where attackers collect data now to decrypt it with future quantum capabilities.

Redefining Standards of Defense

Samsung has been working on PQC to ensure encrypted data remains secure in a quantum-powered world.

The company is closely following standards recommended by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)[1] to defend against quantum computer attacks. For example, the ML-KEM (Module-Lattice-Based Key-Encapsulation Mechanism) algorithm employs lattice-based mathematics — complex multidimensional structures that make encryption keys exceptionally difficult to solve, even for quantum computers. Ideal for secure communication between connected devices, the algorithm provides robust security while optimizing performance and minimizing data exchange.

NIST’s PQC standards secure a wide range of electronic information from confidential emails to e-commerce transactions. For Samsung, they are a way to future-proof cloud data against quantum threats.

Samsung’s Strategic Approach 

Committed to protecting user data as technologies such as quantum computing evolve, Samsung is introducing Post-Quantum Enhanced Data Protection (EDP) to Samsung Knox Matrix — the company’s industry-leading protection for connected device ecosystems.

Samsung’s EDP feature currently provides end-to-end encryption for user data when backing up, restoring or syncing personal information through Samsung Cloud.

With the integration of PQC technology to Knox Matrix, another layer of protection has been added — setting a new standard for cloud security on mobile devices. Knox Matrix’s cross-device compatibility will ensure seamless quantum-safe protection for Samsung Cloud backups and synced data across smartphones, TVs and digital appliances.

This feature is available on the new Galaxy S25 series as the first device operating on One UI 7, giving Galaxy users enhanced protection against quantum computing threats.
