Samsung Electronics Singapore has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Metro (Private) Limited to drive retail transformation for the departmental store’s

Samsung Electronics Singapore has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Metro (Private) Limited to drive retail transformation for the departmental store’s Paragon branch. Metro intends to leverage Samsung’s advanced technologies to support its ongoing retail transformation initiatives. This includes implementing large-format digital signage solutions and optimising operations using Samsung SmartThings Pro, an integrated business solution platform, alongside MagicINFO, a comprehensive content management system.

In the coming months, 12 large-format digital signages will be introduced across three floors of Metro Paragon. These will replace conventional, lower-resolution LED and LCD displays. Shoppers will also be able to experience Samsung’s wide portfolio of devices and see how they can be integrated in their households for more intuitive living experiences.

Mr. Erwin Wuysang-Oei, Chief Executive Officer of Metro (Private) Limited and Mr. Jeffrey Hahn, President, Samsung Electronics Singapore at an earlier MoU signing event

“Shoppers are invested in experiential moments when they visit a departmental store today. It is a venue for discovery and experiences, and Metro hopes to excite shoppers with our retail transformation efforts that are engaging, while helping shoppers uncover new brands to connect with. In parallel, we want our investments to help us optimise our operations and drive greater value for our brand in the long run. We are delighted to be working with Samsung where we can lean on their advanced digital capabilities to bring our vision to life,” said Mr. Erwin Wuysang-Oei, Chief Executive Officer of Metro (Private) Limited.

“Metro had a clear vision with how they wanted to elevate retail experience in the heart of Orchard Road. We saw the opportunity to partner with the team on evolving customer experiences, as well as to help the store be more efficient in managing their suite of devices, so that operational processes such as monitoring of energy consumption and content management for digital signages can be better optimised. With SmartThings Pro and MagicINFO, the Metro team can lean on smart insights and manage connected devices easily and securely on our platform.” said Mr. Jeffrey Hahn, President, Samsung Electronics Singapore.

Metro SLEEPLAB to feature largest deployment of indoor Samsung LED screen

At the newly opened 10,000 sq ft SLEEPLAB, shoppers are greeted with a 60.72m U-shaped Samsung IEA Series commercial LED screen (IE025A LED signage), which wraps three sides of the show floor. This is also the largest indoor retail deployment of the IEA Series screen within an indoor retail environment in Singapore. Pave System, a leading audio-visual system integration firm, led the deployment of this setup for the zone.

SLEEPLAB is part of Metro’s retail transformation efforts to better engage shoppers by creating an immersive space for shoppers seeking a perfect sleep experience with the right mattress, pillows and bedding. The space evokes sensory experiences across sight, smell and touch, helping shoppers envision how a good night sleep could potentially feel like.

Metro’s SLEEPLAB features the largest indoor retail deployment of a Samsung IEA Series commercial LED screen, which wraps three sides of the show floor

Metro worked with South Korea’s Habitant to create “Seven Chapters of Sleep”, a 15-minute digital art film that takes advantage of the unique screen set up and advanced LED HDR (High Dynamic Range) feature to create an immersive dreamscape for shoppers as they try out the beddings in the area.

The film brings shoppers through everyday blooms, to the vastness of oceans, and into outer space – which demonstrates the deep and restful sleep experience every individual may encounter. It features ambient audio pieces specially composed to create a soothing environment as shoppers try out mattresses and bedding to find their perfect sleep setup.

Smarter retail operations with SmartThings Pro and MagicINFO

SLEEPLAB’s digital experiences are centrally managed by SmartThings Pro and MagicINFO, where conditions within the space can be automatically adjusted based on preset routines and instructions.

SmartThings Pro is an integrated business solution platform that helps organisations centrally manage their connected devices, monitor energy consumption, as well as help trigger real-time alerts based on AI diagnostics. The goal is to help Metro achieve up to 30% energy savings[1], with plans to expand the use of the platform across all supported devices across its three floors at Paragon.

SmartThings Pro offers organisations the ability to centrally monitor and manage connected appliances

Content for the large-form display can also be centrally managed via MagicINFO, a content management platform that allows Metro to quickly create, upload and manage digital signages. This enables the team to push out promotional content more effectively, and from a virtual location, rather than manually updating individual signages.

In the coming months, shoppers will also be able to try out a connected Samsung experience with the introduction of Galaxy Watch and the Bespoke AirDresser at the space. With Galaxy Watch, shoppers can understand how they can potentially track and improve their sleep quality with the help of Samsung Health, along with a suitable bed and healthy habits. Shoppers can also use the Bespoke AirDresser to sanitise their outerwear before, during and after their time at the SLEEPLAB, which is also meant to mimic a bedroom environment.

By Leslie Goh, Regional Head of Display, Southeast Asia & Oceania, Samsung Electronics

The challenges in this ever-changing world have led to an accelerated demand for digital transformation in recent years. Now more than ever, there is a strong need to adapt to and evolve alongside multiple waves of disruption.

In fact, many business leaders whom I have spoken to said that the volatile business climate has not reduced the appetite for organisations to transform. On the contrary, businesses are finding greater urgency for change across a broad spectrum of activities, from redefining their service offerings to uplifting customer experiences.

Samsung Kiosks integrated into KFC Philippines’ restaurants

Another example is KFC Philippines, a quick service restaurant serving its secret recipe fried chicken at close to 400 stores nationwide. In 2017, its digital transformation journey first started with the integration of more than 1,000 Samsung large-format displays pre-installed with the MagicINFO platform, for digital menu boards across all stores. This helped KFC improve customer experiences by catering more visually appealing images, whilst ensuring their operations teams could continually update their menu board and promotions effectively and efficiently.

In 2022, KFC accelerated its digital transformation journey by integrating Samsung KM24A kiosks in restaurants and OM55B outdoor displays in drive-thru stores. By the end of 2024, 800 kiosks and over 150 OMB55B outdoor displays will also be deployed to minimise queues and increase order accuracy, and further elevate customer experiences.

A New Era of Innovation

The successful deployment story of KFC Philippines is a reminder of the risk-taking and innovation that are needed in today’s dynamic and competitive marketplace, whether in the F&B, retail, hospitality, or other sectors.

Staying ahead of the curve with our customers and partners means:

Having the urgency to take digital transformation to another level: With dynamic market conditions, agility is needed more than ever, with technology providing the crucial breakthrough in unlocking new value. As KFC discovered, digital technologies could radically open opportunities not possible before, enabling further growth.

Meeting the need for integrated solutions: While point solutions are attractive short-term options, larger and more complex challenges such as meeting sustainability goals require a more strategic and integrated approach. Similarly, to meet big market opportunities, such as winning over customers in the Gen Z and Gen M demographics, businesses have to redefine and transform their processes in a holistic rather than piecemeal fashion.

Not compromising on sustainability and security: Sustainability is now central to everything businesses do, from procuring to using energy efficiently and finally recycling their products from customers, post-purchase. Similarly, security has to be integrated into all parts of a digital business, ensuring that best practices are incorporated seamlessly to minimise risks while undergoing rapid digitalisation at scale.

These sentiments were also shared amongst participants at the Samsung Display Tech Summit 2023, which was awarded Bronze for the “Best Brand Experience – B2B” event, at the prestigious Campaign Asia Pacific’s Event Marketing Awards 2024.

Held in October last year, the Summit was an immersive 2-day program in Seoul, South Korea, attended by enterprise customers and partners across the Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) region. Here, we shared our technology vision while showcasing our latest display, IT and industrial solutions and services to help enterprises become more agile and competitive in the fast-evolving digital world.

An Integrated Approach to Big Challenges

With these same priorities in mind, Samsung is ready to help enterprise customers overcome their challenges and meet business goals with an entire ecosystem of products, services, and partners.

Through Samsung’s unifying offering for integrated IT and devices solutions and services, it is our company’s vision to help businesses in this region push the boundaries of what they can do and to enable the next dimension of digital transformation for organisations. The key here is seamlessly integrating end-to-end offerings in devices, services, and solutions to connect people and enable them to be more productive. In each area, Samsung is bringing its market leading expertise in technology and solutions.

Samsung has a wide range of devices such as the well-loved Galaxy series smartphones and devices that with industry-leading security innovations like Samsung Knox Matrix, infrastructure offerings from system air-conditioners to mobile networks as well as strong leadership positioning in display technologies. For the past 14 consecutive years, we have been an industry leader in the global signage market[1] by pushing innovation in LED and Micro LED technologies and also, developing a product strategy with a focus on sustainability that was recently recognised by System Contractor News, a leading audio and visual publication, through the Installation Product Awards for Most Innovative Sustainable Product Strategy in June 2023.

Combined with its solutions for device, display, content and smart building management, and enterprise grade Knox security services, Samsung can provide a holistic portfolio of seamlessly integrated offerings such as eco-conscious innovations showcased at CES 2024, to create the modern digital enterprise founded on commitments to security and sustainability.

Such an integrated approach would benefit, for example, an organisation that wants to create a new company-wise workspace and is considering various options to not just optimise spaces but also enable new hybrid work experiences. A prime case study is the Jeju Dream Tower, where Samsung has provided smart signage for lobbies and rooms, TVs for all hotel rooms, central air-conditioning solutions, room management and mobile device systems.

Click here to see how Samsung has transform customer experiences at the iconic Jeju Dream Tower

For Every Business Need

Technology is crucial but only one part of the answer. To ensure that the various pieces of the puzzle come together to produce the desired results, Samsung works with trusted and experienced partners to transform products and services into end-to-end solutions.

Each industry is different and so are the needs. This is why Samsung also provides an array of solutions, products and services specifically designed for various verticals, ensuring that they are tailored to deliver results desired in each industry.

[1] Samsung Electronics achieved a 31.1% share of sales in the commercial display market in 2022, according to market researcher Omdia, ranking first. With this, Samsung Electronics proves that it is the strongest player in the commercial display market, and maintained the No. 1 position for 14 consecutive years from 2009 to 2022.” (Note: Consumer TVs, along with Commercial Lite and Hospitality TVs used for signage are excluded.)

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. today announced the number of Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip smartphones sold for enterprise use has more than doubled year on year. From January to October 2022, the number of foldable smartphones Samsung contracted to enterprise customers increased by 105% compared to the same period in 2021.[1]

With foldable smartphone shipments expected to reach 16 million units worldwide[2] – an increase of 73% year on year – the form factor is rapidly becoming mainstream, and shipments are expected to grow to 26 million units in 2023. The ease of multitasking on a large screen, and the powerful app optimizations for foldable devices, are helping drive adoption among enterprise users.

Benefits of Foldables for Enterprise Users

As companies shift towards work-from-anywhere policies, they are looking to technology for new ways to maximize productivity. Foldables have particularly attracted the financial services industry, where 74%[3] of a sample group of financial advisors say staying connected via mobile apps is important or critical.

“Galaxy foldable smartphones were created to open up opportunities for new ways to work and explore creativity,” said KC Choi, EVP and Head of Global Mobile B2B Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics. “This rapid growth in investment demonstrates our enterprise customers’ need for meaningful innovations to enhance workforce productivity.”

The Galaxy Z Fold4 – Samsung’s fourth-generation foldable smartphone – is a multi-tasking powerhouse ideal for business use. Despite its pocket-friendly dimensions, it offers a large, tablet-sized screen, making it easier to get things done compared to traditional smartphone screens.

The Galaxy Z Fold4’s expansive screen offers a larger working area, well suited to make the most of features from desktop computers. The perfect tool for juggling multiple tasks and pairs of apps, the PC-like Taskbar enables users to manage, launch and switch between apps, all without interrupting work.

The huge screen space is also a natural fit for working with Multi Windows. The Galaxy Z Fold4 can open up to three apps at once, including two of the same app for side-by-side comparisons. For example, users can respond to Gmail while viewing two Chrome browser tabs, just like working at a desk with multiple screens.

The Galaxy Z Fold4 also adapts to workflow needs. Flex Mode not only provides a hands-free experience for major video conferencing tools, it can now support dedicated e-signature or note-taking on partner apps using S Pen.

Powerful Partnerships That Enhance the Experience of Foldable Devices

These experiences have been popular across many sectors of businesses and industries. In the current market, competition is fierce, especially in the financial services sector. Professionals need the best tools to help them maintain consistency and routine, even while working remotely.

Their devices must support complex workflows, including alerts, research, charts and portfolios, and give them the power and productivity advantage they need to stay competitive. Working with industry-leading partners, Samsung has enhanced Galaxy Z Fold4’s utility in unique ways, leading to wider adoption of foldables for enterprise use.

According to a recent survey, the Bloomberg Professional app[4] is the most used financial services app by investment professionals, such as traders, analysts and portfolio managers.[5] It takes advantage of the Galaxy Z Fold’s unique form factor enable financial professionals to access Bloomberg’s market data, analytics, news, and communications on the go in a more intuitive and immersive way, while preserving the user experience and functionality with which they are familiar. On Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, the Bloomberg Professional app’s adaptive layout provides for easy continuity and multitasking on the go. Users can effortlessly switch from the cover screen, ideal for quick Instant Bloomberg (IB) conversations, to the large screen that makes it easier to read news stories, monitoring real-time market data, browse portfolios or perform chart analysis. This allows financial professionals to do familiar work in an enhanced way on their foldable device.
