Six ProVisual Engine Features That Help You Capture Life as It Happens

Motion Photo – With the Galaxy S24 series’ new Motion Photo capabilities, Team Samsung Galaxy b-boy extraordinaire Kid Karam’s signature breaking style can be captured in all its dynamic detail without missing a single movement. By recording the preview for up to three seconds, Motion Photo captures a short span of motion in action and compiles it into a single moving image.^[1]

In the Editor app, you can select any given frame from your Motion Photo to save as a standalone image. Thanks to automatic AI upscaling, the selected frame can be saved as a high-resolution image made up of 12MP for richer detail. Motion Photo also provides Super High Dynamic Range (HDR) capabilities, offering crystal-clear photos even when capturing in a backlit environment.

Finally, from the Gallery app, you can compress your whole three-second Motion Photo together to create a single Long Exposure image. This lets you capture, for example, the spectacular movement and colour of an overhead firework display all in one photo. You can also apply other effects, such as Single Take via the Enhance-X app.

Faster Shot-to-Shot Shutter Speed – With a 30% boost in shot-to-shot shutter speed compared to the previous series, the Galaxy S24 series’ camera can take more photos within a shorter time span. This lets you take crystal-clear photos in rapid succession without having to slow down while images process. The next time you’re capturing your dog at the park, faster shots will let you capture every precious moment without missing it.

Instant Slow-mo – For those moments that are begging to be savoured – like your daughter scoring the winning goal at a soccer match or your uncle busting his moves on the wedding reception dance floor – Instant Slow-mo has you covered, requiring no prior setup for the capturing process. Through intelligent AI Frame Rate Conversion (AI FRC) technology, the Galaxy S24 series can transform HD 24fps to UHD 60fps videos into slow-mo epics. FHD 240fps to UHD 120fps slow-mo videos can go further still with super slow motion. By generating new intermediate frames of movement, Instant Slow-mo achieves silky-smooth, highly detailed replays every time. From late March, Instant Slow-mo will expand to support 480×480 24fps videos, allowing users to create social media-friendly video content with ease.

To achieve these slow-mo effects, the Galaxy S24 series uses powerful AI Frame Rate Conversion (FRC) technology:

• First, AI FRC takes every two frames from the video as it was originally recorded and uses a deep learning model to analyse and extract motion information.
• Extracting this information establishes the differences between frames and helps AI FRC interpolate intermediate frames that give the video slower motion.
• This process is carried out twice – in both square dimension and reverse dimension – to boost the accuracy of the new, additional frames that have been generated.
• Then, two fusion processes are carried out: Fusion Map and Residual. Fusion Map detects and extracts 2D outlines to help detect motion differences between frames, while Residual adds extra corrections and post-edits to minute details for enhanced accuracy. This allows the feature to create accurate intermediate frames extremely quickly.
• When this is completed, the outputs of these two processes are fused one last time to render the final, AI-generated intermediate frames that give the video both fluid slow motion and meticulous detail.

Dual Recording – There are times when your reaction to a moment is just as priceless as the moment itself. With Dual Recording, you can record simultaneously with both the front and the rear camera so that your loved ones can see not only how amazing the view from the mountain peak was, but how ecstatic you were to finally reach it.

Upgraded from the previous Director Mode feature, Dual Recording now even lets you record with two rear cameras at the same time – Ultra Wide with 3x, for example – with Full HD resolution supported on Galaxy S24 and S24+ and Full HD and Ultra HD supported on S24 Ultra. With Preview Snap, you can extract a snapshot image from your recording at any time, while dedicated Image Signal Processor (ISP) Block and enhanced ISP capabilities support improved video noise and brightness.

10 ND Filter Types – Natural Density (ND) filters are often attached to professional-grade cameras to help do things like limit light, reduce noise or lengthen exposure. No attachments are required, with 10 different ND filters built into the Galaxy 24 series’ camera for maximum user choice and control. ND-filtered photos synthesise multiple frames at once and analyse object movement to create one still image with a clear sense of living motion in, for example, photographs of waves or waterfalls.

Single Take – Galaxy’s Single Take function lets you capture a range of image types with just a tap – up to 8 in total based on one shot. This means if you want to sneak a quick shot of your friend opening the birthday gift you got them, you don’t need to waste time deliberating over the best camera mode in advance.

AI also enhances Single Take’s pose and skeleton detection capabilities. Previously fine-tuned to analyse human motion, skeleton detection can now recognise pets too, tracking their poses and rapid movements in real time for the best photos, videos and collages of your leaping canines and lounging cats. If a human subject is jumping through the air, for example, skeleton detection identifies when the subject is at their highest point and presents that frame as the best image for the user. When applied to your pet, it analyses your pet’s poses to capture the moment best showing off their facial features.

Galaxy S24 Ultra’s powerful Nightography capabilities mitigate this very struggle even from a distance. Compared to the previous model, its sensor has nearly doubled in size from 0.08 square inches to approximately 0.16 square inches, helping Galaxy S24 Ultra capture even more precise details. It also has bigger pixels – nearly 60% larger with a length of 1.4μm on each side of the pixel at 5x zoom^[1]. Combined with enhanced AI ISP, this means the Galaxy S24 Ultra can capture more light and create brighter, less noisy images. What’s more, the photo shutter speed is 30% faster, and the telephoto camera’s optical image stabilization angle is wider. That means you’ll capture clearer images more quickly, even if your hands are a little shaky.
• Or maybe you’ve already captured your shot, but it’s not quite right. This is where Generative Edit^[2] takes the stage, harnessing generative AI to adjust objects and generate a perfectly blended background in their place. You can perfect the moment you captured, creating the ideal memory to look back on. Server-based Generative AI enables edits such as straightening and resizing, then harnesses in-painting and out-painting techniques to fill any gaps in the image. AI then determines the suitability of the results and handles any necessary post-processing.
  

Capture Expert-Level Results With Precision Tools

For amateur and expert photographers alike, Expert RAW enables the creation of professional-quality images. Using AI, Galaxy S24 features 24MP fusion, which combines images to get the most out of different resolutions. High resolution 50MP images provide more detail, while 12MP images provide multi-frame synthesis, which improves noise and dynamic range. Put together, they create the most incredible photo in any scenario. The latest version of Enhance-X arms you with a new feature: Camera Shift. Moments are fleeting, and sometimes you only have a second to take your shot which can leave the final result less compelling than you intended. Shooting from above can have the effect of making a subject seem smaller, while shooting from below can make it seem bigger or more powerful, and a straight-on angle makes a subject seem more relatable. Camera Shift lets you shift your photo’s perspective after you take your shot. Now you can focus on capturing the moment without worrying about having the perfect angle or camera position. Once you’ve taken your photo, Camera Shift lets you achieve the effect you want by using AI to adjust the angle and perspective.

As an engineer, I have witnessed many examples of incredible innovations, but AI is the most transformative technology of the century. Few engineers get the chance to be involved in something with such seismic potential. It brings great change, not only for Samsung and the mobile industry but for all humankind.

When integrated into phones, AI is, to put it simply, a revolution. This is a new era for mobile experiences and Samsung Galaxy has a leading role to play in it. Samsung Electronics announced the global availability of the new Galaxy S24 series, which has received an impressive number of pre-orders thanks to its transformational Galaxy AI capabilities. Galaxy AI introduces meaningful intelligence aimed at enhancing every part of life, especially the phone’s most fundamental role: communication. When you need to defy language barriers, the Galaxy S24 series makes it easier than ever. Chat with another student or colleague from abroad. Book a reservation while on vacation in another country. It’s all possible with Live Translate^[2], two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone calls within the native app. No third-party apps are required, and on-device AI keeps conversations completely private.

With Interpreter, live conversations can be instantly translated on a split-screen view so people standing opposite each other can read a text transcription of what the other person has said. It even works without cellular data or Wi-Fi.

For messages and other apps, Chat Assist can help perfect conversational tones to ensure communication sounds as it was intended: a polite message to a co-worker or a short and catchy phrase for a social media caption^[3]. AI built into Samsung Keyboard can also translate messages in real-time in 13 languages^[4]. In the car, Android Auto^[5] will automatically summarise incoming messages and suggest relevant replies and actions, like sending someone your ETA, so you can stay connected while staying focused on the road.

Organisation also gets a big boost with Note Assist^[6] in Samsung Notes, featuring AI-generated summaries, template creation that streamlines notes with pre-made formats, and cover creation to make notes easy to spot with a brief preview. Unleash Creativity to Discover the World in New Ways

Galaxy S24 series’ ProVisual Engine^[9] is a comprehensive suite of AI-powered tools that transform image capturing abilities and maximise creative freedom every step of the way, from setting up a shot all the way to sharing it on social. Gone are shaky, pixelated images taken from far away. Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Quad Tele System, with new 5x optical zoom lens, works with the 50MP sensor to enable optical-quality performance at zoom levels from 2x, 3x, 5x to 10x^[10] magnification thanks to Adaptive Pixel Sensor. Images also show crystal clear results at 100x with enhanced digital zoom.

With upgraded Nightography capabilities, photos and videos shot on Galaxy S24 Space Zoom are brilliant in any conditions, even when zoomed in. Capture more light in dim conditions with Galaxy S24 Ultra’s larger pixel size, now 1.4 μm, which is 60% bigger^[11]  compared to the previous model. Blur is reduced on Galaxy S24 Ultra with wider optical image stabilizer (OIS) angles and enhanced hand-shake compensation. When recording videos, both front and rear cameras are equipped with Dedicated ISP Block for noise reduction, and Galaxy S24 analyses gyro information to distinguish between the filmer’s movement and the subject’s. This allows more effective noise removal and clear videos in the dark, even from far away.

After great shots are captured, innovative Galaxy AI editing tools enable simple edits like erase, re-compose, and remaster. For easier and more efficient optimisations, Edit Suggestion^[12] uses Galaxy AI to suggest perfectly suitable tweaks for each photo. To give users even more creative control and freedom, Generative Edit^[13] can fill in parts of an image background with generative AI. When a picture is crooked, AI will fill in the borders. When an object needs to be slightly moved to be in the perfect position, AI lets users adjust the position of the subject and generates a perfectly blended background in its original spot. When generative AI is deployed to amplify an image, a watermark will appear on the image and in metadata. And if an action-packed video needs to be slowed down, new Instant Slow-mo can generate additional frames based on movements to smoothly slow down action-packed moments for a more detailed look.

To ensure that every image stuns at every stage, Super HDR reveals lifelike previews before the shutter is ever pressed. And while capturing memories is an essential phone feature, sharing memories with the world is just as meaningful. Now, third-party social apps make the most of Galaxy’s AI-powered camera system. Premium Galaxy S series camera features now integrate directly with mobile apps in HDR to level up social sharing^[14]. When it’s time to find an image in Gallery or Instagram feed and reels, photos and videos are also shown in Super HDR for a more lifelike range of brightness, colour and contrast by analysing highlighted section of the images.

The Next Phase of Samsung’s Environmental Journey

Establishing a new category of mobile experiences also means reimagining how Galaxy technology is designed and packaged to do more with less for people and the planet. Galaxy S24 continues to scale the variety of recycled materials in Galaxy devices by applying recycled plastics, glass and aluminium to internal and external components^[23]. It also takes these efforts one step further. For the first time, the Galaxy S24 series features components made with recycled cobalt and rare earth elements^[24]. In Galaxy S24 Ultra, a minimum of 50% recycled cobalt was used in the battery^[25], and 100% recycled rare earth elements were incorporated into the speakers^[26].

Galaxy S24 is also the first Galaxy S series to be designed with recycled steel and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU). Galaxy S24 Ultra features a minimum of 40% recycled steel in the speakers^[27], and it includes a minimum of 10% pre-consumer recycled TPU in the side and volume keys. Additionally, every Galaxy S24 comes in a packaging box made from 100% recycled paper material.

The latest flagship continues Samsung’s commitment to extending the product lifecycle, offering seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates to help users reliably experience the optimised performance of their Galaxy devices for even longer^[28].
