Not anymore. In the spirit of a ‘Games Wide Open’ at Paris 2024, Samsung is helping athletes create and share new, more personal memories of the celebration atop the podium with the Victory Selfie powered by Galaxy.

In an Olympic Games first, medalists at Paris 2024 have been documenting their ceremonies from their own perspective as they were handed the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition on the podium to take their Victory Selfie after receiving their Olympic medals. The selfies have been uploaded automatically and wirelessly to the Athlete365 portal so athletes can share their moments on a whole new level — perfectly aligning with Samsung’s belief that ‘Open always wins’ and that openness creates new perspectives and infinite possibilities.

“To be able to share the moment of achieving my dream of winning a medal with my fans, family and friends around the world — through my own perspective — was incredible,” said Team Samsung Galaxy member Rayssa Leal (Skateboarding, Brazil). “It not only amplified a moment I’ll never forget but also celebrated the camaraderie beyond the competition as my fellow medalists and I took the Victory Selfie together on the podium.”

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., is set to release a new single called “Open Always Wins” in collaboration with K-Pop icons TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), consisting of SOOBIN, YEONJUN, BEOMGYU, TAEHYUN, and HUENINGKAI. The new Galaxy brand anthem, which was first teased at Galaxy Unpacked last week, champions the pursuit of goals with an open mind, echoing Galaxy’s own core values of openness.

Set to an energetic guitar riff, “Open Always Wins” is an alternative rock track featuring the powerful vocals of TXT. Band members SOOBIN, YEONJUN, TAEHYUN and HUENINGKAI participated in penning the lyrics and based them on their own feelings and experience of openness.

“We are proud to have collaborated with our Galaxy Ambassadors, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, to create a brand anthem that encapsulates the spirit of openness authentically,” said Jamie Park, VP & Head of the Experience Marketing Group, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “We hope it inspires listeners to embrace openness in their own lives, and the experiences and opportunities that come with it.”

The track is brought to life in a new music video that intertwines scenes of TXT preparing for a performance, with appearances from Team Samsung Galaxy athletes, celebrating their efforts and challenges across various sports.

The new single launches at 1PM (KST) today across multiple music platforms — including YouTube Music, Spotify, Melon, Genie, Bugs, Flo and Vibe — and the accompanying music video will be available to watch on Samsung’s official YouTube channel.

In conjunction with the music video release, the “Open Always Wins” dance challenge will kick off as well, encouraging fans worldwide to show their support and cheer for their favorite athletes.

The new Olympic Edition for Paris 2024 is the first-ever Olympic Edition to feature Galaxy AI. • Composer^[3] – helps to draft emails and social media posts in apps by using simple keywords. For social media app specifically, it even analyzes the tone of past content, making it easier for athletes to express their excitement at some of the competition’s most thrilling or poignant moments.

Athletes can also use Galaxy AI on the Olympic Edition phone to help prepare for competition, enhance their creativity, and capture lifelong memories at Paris 2024, with features including:

• Instant Slow-mo^[4] – allows athletes to record, share and analyze their performances in slow motion, making it easier for them to refine their technique.
• Photo Assist^[5] – enables athletes to get the perfect shot every time, by resizing, repositioning or even removing unwanted objects within photos.

Built-in Services and Apps Making the Olympic and Paralympic Experience Fun and Easy

To make it easier for athletes to use the phone while in Paris and beyond, each Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition will come with an eSIM of 100GB 5G data in partnership with Orange, and two years of Samsung’s international warranty. Additionally, to keep track of the latest Games-time schedules and travel around the Olympic venues with ease, several official International Olympic Committee (IOC) apps such as Athlete 365^[6], Olympic Shop, Paris 2024, Transport Accred App, and IOC hotline will be pre-loaded. 

Via Samsung Wallet^[7], it also will come pre-loaded with an in-app pass for free beverages in vending machines located throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Village in partnership with fellow Worldwide Partner, The Coca-Cola Company, and an unlimited complimentary public transport access card, in partnership with Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), so they can enjoy touring the city of Paris and its region.

To bring some fun and personalization to the athlete experience, each Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition will feature a suite of interactive, Paris 2024-themed apps, as well. Sharing Moments of Victory from the Podium Firsthand

Standing atop the Olympic and Paralympic podium during the medal ceremony and realizing a lifelong dream is one of the most emotional and memorable moments an athlete can experience. Traditionally photographed by accredited media only because athletes have been prohibited from bringing personal belongings — including their mobile phones — to the ceremony, the view has always been captured from a distance and not through an athlete’s own lens.

For the first time in Olympic and Paralympic Games history, Samsung will provide the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition for use on the podium at Paris 2024, so athletes can create their own memories and emotions via a new, victory selfie. Samsung’s customized technology will map and sort the athletes’ selfies by sport and upload them to Athlete365 in real-time, which will allow athletes to save and share their iconic moments with family and fans.

The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition will be displayed at Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung showcases, including the one at Champs-Elysees 125, starting July 12. In collaboration with the IOC and International Paralympic Committee (IPC), athletes will receive their Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition from Samsung starting July 18.

As an engineer, I have witnessed many examples of incredible innovations, but AI is the most transformative technology of the century. More than 300 fans onsite watched the matches via a large screen, experiencing the intense gameplay, heart-wrenching losses and triumphant finishes alongside the gamers.

In the breaks between rounds, attendees participated in various online and offline events — including the “Emote Dance Challenge,” where participants followed the moves of PUBG Mobile characters, as well as fan voting and an awards ceremony on Samsung Mobile’s Twitch channel.

The “SuperYongGOD9” team was crowned as the winner of the tournament, consisting of #TeamGalaxy members @rurusama9 and @supercatkei from Singapore, #TeamGalaxy member @arieffyong from Malaysia and Twitch streamer @GaGOD from the U.K.

For messages and other apps, Chat Assist can help perfect conversational tones to ensure communication sounds as it was intended: a polite message to a co-worker or a short and catchy phrase for a social media caption^[3]. AI built into Samsung Keyboard can also translate messages in real-time in 13 languages^[4]. In the car, Android Auto^[5] will automatically summarise incoming messages and suggest relevant replies and actions, like sending someone your ETA, so you can stay connected while staying focused on the road.

Organisation also gets a big boost with Note Assist^[6] in Samsung Notes, featuring AI-generated summaries, template creation that streamlines notes with pre-made formats, and cover creation to make notes easy to spot with a brief preview. For voice recordings, even when there are multiple speakers, Transcript Assist^[7] uses AI and Speech-to-Text technology to transcribe, summarise and even translate recordings.

Communication isn’t the only way the Galaxy S24 series takes the fundamental benefits of the phone into the future. Online search has transformed nearly every aspect of life. The Galaxy S24 series marks a milestone in the history of search as the first phone to debut intuitive, gesture-driven Circle to Search^[8] with Google. To give Galaxy users an incredible new tool, Galaxy turned to the worldwide leader of search, Google, and opened up new forms of discovery with a simple gesture. With a long press on the home button, users can circle, highlight, scribble on, or tap anything on the Galaxy S24 series’ screen to see helpful, high-quality search results. Seeing a beautiful landmark in the background of a friend’s social media post or a surprising fun fact on YouTube Shorts can quickly become an accurate search to learn more – without having to leave that app. And depending on a user‘s location, for certain searches, generative AI-powered overviews can provide helpful information and context pulled together from across the web, and users can ask more complex and nuanced questions. Unleash Creativity to Discover the World in New Ways

Galaxy S24 series’ ProVisual Engine^[9] is a comprehensive suite of AI-powered tools that transform image capturing abilities and maximise creative freedom every step of the way, from setting up a shot all the way to sharing it on social. Gone are shaky, pixelated images taken from far away. Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Quad Tele System, with new 5x optical zoom lens, works with the 50MP sensor to enable optical-quality performance at zoom levels from 2x, 3x, 5x to 10x^[10] magnification thanks to Adaptive Pixel Sensor. Images also show crystal clear results at 100x with enhanced digital zoom.

With upgraded Nightography capabilities, photos and videos shot on Galaxy S24 Space Zoom are brilliant in any conditions, even when zoomed in. Capture more light in dim conditions with Galaxy S24 Ultra’s larger pixel size, now 1.4 μm, which is 60% bigger^[11]  compared to the previous model. Blur is reduced on Galaxy S24 Ultra with wider optical image stabilizer (OIS) angles and enhanced hand-shake compensation. When recording videos, both front and rear cameras are equipped with Dedicated ISP Block for noise reduction, and Galaxy S24 analyses gyro information to distinguish between the filmer’s movement and the subject’s. This allows more effective noise removal and clear videos in the dark, even from far away.

After great shots are captured, innovative Galaxy AI editing tools enable simple edits like erase, re-compose, and remaster. For easier and more efficient optimisations, Edit Suggestion^[12] uses Galaxy AI to suggest perfectly suitable tweaks for each photo. To give users even more creative control and freedom, Generative Edit^[13] can fill in parts of an image background with generative AI. When a picture is crooked, AI will fill in the borders. When an object needs to be slightly moved to be in the perfect position, AI lets users adjust the position of the subject and generates a perfectly blended background in its original spot. When generative AI is deployed to amplify an image, a watermark will appear on the image and in metadata. And if an action-packed video needs to be slowed down, new Instant Slow-mo can generate additional frames based on movements to smoothly slow down action-packed moments for a more detailed look.

To ensure that every image stuns at every stage, Super HDR reveals lifelike previews before the shutter is ever pressed. And while capturing memories is an essential phone feature, sharing memories with the world is just as meaningful. Now, third-party social apps make the most of Galaxy’s AI-powered camera system. Premium Galaxy S series camera features now integrate directly with mobile apps in HDR to level up social sharing^[14]. When it’s time to find an image in Gallery or Instagram feed and reels, photos and videos are also shown in Super HDR for a more lifelike range of brightness, colour and contrast by analysing highlighted section of the images.

The Next Phase of Samsung’s Environmental Journey

Establishing a new category of mobile experiences also means reimagining how Galaxy technology is designed and packaged to do more with less for people and the planet. Galaxy S24 continues to scale the variety of recycled materials in Galaxy devices by applying recycled plastics, glass and aluminium to internal and external components^[23]. It also takes these efforts one step further. For the first time, the Galaxy S24 series features components made with recycled cobalt and rare earth elements^[24]. In Galaxy S24 Ultra, a minimum of 50% recycled cobalt was used in the battery^[25], and 100% recycled rare earth elements were incorporated into the speakers^[26].

Galaxy S24 is also the first Galaxy S series to be designed with recycled steel and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU). Galaxy S24 Ultra features a minimum of 40% recycled steel in the speakers^[27], and it includes a minimum of 10% pre-consumer recycled TPU in the side and volume keys. Additionally, every Galaxy S24 comes in a packaging box made from 100% recycled paper material.

The latest flagship continues Samsung’s commitment to extending the product lifecycle, offering seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates to help users reliably experience the optimised performance of their Galaxy devices for even longer^[28]. Lastly, the Galaxy S24 series is UL ECOLOGO^® certified^[29], and its carbon footprint has been measured and verified by The Carbon Trust^[30].

Galaxy S24 is a demonstration of progress against Samsung Mobile eXperience’s (MX) environmental roadmap. Samsung remains steadfast in delivering on its set of goals to be achieved by the end of 2025^[31].
