British Gas will offer the chance to win free energy for a year to three lucky customers who sign up

British Gas and Samsung Electronics UK are expanding their collaboration  to launch a unique new tariff, helping customers save money on energy bills this winter.

Owners of eligible Samsung appliances and new customers can now apply for an exclusive fixed British Gas tariff – the Samsung Weekend Saver Fix – giving additional half-price electricity hours between 11am-4pm on Saturdays[1]

To celebrate the two brands coming together in a UK first, British Gas will offer customers who sign up the chance to win free energy for a year for their household, amounting to £1755 in savings, which is the typical cost to power the average home for a year[2]

British Gas customers with a smart meter can already enjoy half-price electricity every Sunday from 11am to 4pm, no matter which tariff they’re on, thanks to the PeakSave scheme. Now, with the Samsung Weekend Saver Fix, they’ll get the same half-price electricity hours on Saturdays too, doubling their savings across the weekend.

This gives customers the flexibility to complete household tasks like doing the laundry, vacuuming and cooking, or to relax and catch up on their favourite TV shows – when energy prices are lower.

Eligible appliances[3] include all Samsung washing machines, tumble dryers, fridges/freezers, dishwashers, ovens and vacuums. The offer is also available on selected mobile devices including Galaxy Smartphones; Galaxy Book, Galaxy Tab; TV and AV models; projectors and gaming monitors and selected residential air conditioning and air source heat pumps.

Since announcing their collaboration in 2024, British Gas and Samsung have helped customers better manage their energy use and increase the adoption of low carbon heating technologies in homes across Britain. Initiatives include integration with the Samsung SmartThings app, enabling customers to schedule appliances  to run when energy demand and costs are lowest, and the introduction of Samsung heat pumps to British Gas’s product range.

Deborah Honig, Chief Customer Officer at Samsung UK, said: “We know many households will be monitoring their energy usage as we approach winter. As well as providing excellent value through this new tariff,  this  collaboration with British Gas helps our customers take the guesswork out of understanding how much energy their home is using. Appliances can be alerted to run when energy is cheaper, all controlled through our SmartThings app, which connects to over 340 brandsWe know energy monitoring is one of the main reasons why UK consumers choose a connected home and are using AI, and we are proud to partner with British Gas to provide even more value to our customers through this tariff’.

James Hughes, Head of Sales and Partnerships at British Gas, commented: “We’re excited to take another step forward in our relationship with Samsung and give customers smarter ways to manage their energy and save money through the use of the latest technology.

More than 1.2 million British Gas customers are already using PeakSave to cut their bills and now Samsung customers can double their savings, with half-price electricity on Saturdays too!  Whether it’s doing the laundry, cooking up a storm in the kitchen, or settling in to watch the football, this new tariff gives households further opportunities to save money at the weekend.”

Growing from 100 million subscribers in 2019 to over 350 million by August 2024, Samsung SmartThings has been leading the way in connected living for a decade. With the power to control devices in the home using a smartphone, SmartThings streamlines routines to make lives more convenient every day. Through SmartThings Energy, you can monitor the energy cost of your appliances, run them on more energy efficient schedules and track your home’s energy use minute by minute.

First launched in 2023, the British Gas PeakSave scheme has already helped 1.2 million customers save a combined total of £30 million and 1606 tonnes of carbon emissions. It forms part of British Gas’ wider commitment to help households reduce energy bills and use energy more efficiently.
