LONDON, United Kingdom – December 2023 – In a ground-breaking partnership that visualises the future of education, Samsung has joined forces with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), in collaboration with IDNS as the system integration partner, to transform traditional learning spaces into cutting-edge, immersive environments.

The centrepieces of this educational revolution are the state-of-the-art LED immersive rooms – boasting 18 metres of the latest Samsung LED screens across three walls, engaging students in a 12K resolution learning environment on both the Swansea and Carmarthen campuses.

From interactive lessons enabling full immersion into subject matter, to empowering students to curate a digital rendition of the university within a gamified world, this advanced technology is fostering creativity and engagement to new levels. As a testament to its impact, the project was also nominated for Education Project of the Year at the prestigious AV Awards 2023.

Full features delivered following the wider partnership include HyFlex rooms equipped with interactive displays, like the Flip and Crystal UHD signage, encouraging students to actively participate and engage with the curriculum on a deeper level – which also allows students joining remotely to feel more involved and engaged in the lessons. The solution was born following the after effects of Covid, in which classes became a mix of in-person and hybrid, enabling lecturers to better engage with all students.

Professor Dylan Jones, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UWTSD, expressed the impact of the partnership, saying, “When it comes to revolutionised education, we want to be ahead of the game, and a partnership with Samsung allows us to do that. Through the Immersive Space, we can provide students with learning experiences that push the boundaries of innovation and I’m excited to see the different ways in which this inspires the students.”

Steve Robertson, Head of Signage, Samsung UK Display, remarked, “The Immersive Room is the culmination of many months of work and collaboration between UWTSD, IDNS and Samsung and I couldn’t be more delighted with the results. An incredible space has been created and Samsung Display Technology is at the centre of it. Thanks to the Universities progressive and forward thinking approach to technology and learning they are able to support a wide ranging and ever growing number of academic and research requirements..”

UWTSD and IDNS’ commitment to innovation, together with Samsung’s expertise in display technology have combined to redefine the educational landscape, setting a benchmark for immersive learning experiences in the 21st century.
