Receipts, vouchers and digital documents are now among the most commonly misplaced items in the UK, according to new research commissioned by Samsung – highlighting how the everyday frustration of losing things has shifted from pockets and bags to screens and storage.

The study of 2,000 UK adults found that more than half (52%) have reached a checkout or returns desk without the receipt they needed. Other frequently misplaced physical items include the TV remote (24%), house keys (19%) and earbuds or headphones (15%).

But the frustration does not stop with physical belongings. As more of everyday life moves online, managing digital clutter is becoming just as challenging. More than eight in ten (83%) say they struggle to find documents or files on their devices when they need them.

For some, this search adds up to a significant amount of lost time. The research shows that people can spend up to six hours a month searching for misplaced digital documents on their laptop or computer – the equivalent of up to 72^[1]hours a year simply trying to rediscover files they already own.

Important digital content is also frequently misplaced. Three in ten say they have lost track of important passwords, while nearly a quarter struggle to find emails (24%) and almost one in five have difficulty locating photos (18%) they know are saved somewhere on their device.

This growing digital overload is reflected in how people organise their technology. Almost a third (32%) say they find it harder to organise items on their phone, tablet or laptop compared to real life, while 34% admit to endlessly scrolling through their camera roll trying to find something specific. A further 31% struggle to remember which folder or chat a file has been saved in.

On average, people now estimate they have more than 3,000 documents, photos or videos stored across their devices. As a result, more than a quarter (28%) say they would not feel confident they could find a specific item within 30 seconds.

Everyday routines also play a role. More than half (52%) say changes in routine make them more forgetful, while 34% feel they lose more items now than they did when they were younger. Nearly one in five (19%) admit they can never find the document they are looking for when they need to send it to friends or family.

The findings come as Samsung unveils the new Galaxy Book6 series at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, which features Intelligent Search designed to help users quickly rediscover documents, photos and contacts, even when they can’t remember exact names, locations or details.

The findings also reveal why traditional organisation methods are struggling to keep up. 35% say files are often saved in the wrong place by mistake, while 29% say current search tools don’t always surface the right results, reinforcing the need for smarter, more intuitive ways to rediscover information.

As technology continues to store more of everyday life, the research suggests that staying organised, both physically and digitally, is becoming an essential modern skill.

• Link to Windows^[17] on your Galaxy phones brings phone apps, messages and notifications to Galaxy Book6’s larger display for more comfortable and efficient multitasking. LONDON, England – Tuesday 22nd June 2021: Samsung KX today announces the launch of ‘Wild Writing’, a series that focuses on how to elevate your creative writing skills using the great outdoors as your creative muse, all via the new Samsung Galaxy Book Pro.

New research commissioned by Samsung KX found that nearly a third of Brits named ‘creative writing’ as one of their favourite hobbies. However, an average of four ideas are discarded for every one that gets developed, with three in 10 Brits believing that they have a best-selling novel in them. The study also found that 45% lose interest in a creative endeavour before finishing it, while 43% simply lack the confidence to see a project through to the end.

Of those polled, 47% believe that being a professional creative, like an author or musician, is their ‘dream job’, but just over half (55%) fear they will never finish writing the album, novel or movie script they aspire to create. It also emerged that just under a third (31%) find daily life too tiring to dedicate any more head-space to something creative, while one in three are just ‘uninspired by their daily surroundings’.

Presenter and songwriter Chelcee Grimes, who has written lyrics for the likes of Dua Lipa and Kylie Minogue, will host a live panel event at Samsung KX on Friday 25th June alongside George the Poet and outdoors adventurer Alastair Humphreys. The event will explore how and why truly disconnecting and choosing to work outdoors can be a fruitful creative pursuit, how technology has evolved to enable us to create outside, and how finding inspiration for written work can be found in the places where you least expect to find it.

George the Poet added: “Being outdoors definitely helps my creativity. Something about the sounds, colours and senses of being outdoors really helps me focus and the ideas just flow. The inspiration for my latest poem for Samsung KX ‘Natural Poetry’ came from a day at Epping Forest taking in all the beauty – the scenery was inspiring, and it was a pleasure to put that moment into words”.

In the study, it emerged that Brits also feel most creative when they are ‘at one with nature’, and specifically when they are beside a body of water such as a lake, or the sea. A further 59% believe technology enables them to be more creative, with a laptop (37%) and a smartphone (32%) top of the list.

LONDON, UK – 19 May, 2021 – earlier this week Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd unveiled a daring new creative instalment in the heart of London, to bring to life the slim design of the new Samsung Galaxy Book Pro.

In a Samsung UK first, Monday morning’s unique showcase, located on Fashion Street by London’s Spitalfields Market, was more modern art than traditional bus stop advertising. The piece, consisting of a Samsung Galaxy Book Pro suspended inside two panes of glass, turned the heads of passers-by who were surprised to realise the unique advert was in fact an exhibit of the incredible form factor of Samsung’s thinnest PC ever.

The Galaxy Book Pro’s system measures just 8.5mm in thickness when fully open (even less than Samsung’s latest flagship Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G device which is 8.9mm^[1]) so is still able to fit inside the slender space of a bus stop 6-sheet poster, demonstrating its lightweight convenience.

Supported by Samsung’s partners at Clear Channel Advertising, this feat was achieved using a thin wire to suspend the laptop inside the bus stop advertising space- something usually reserved for paper posters. The one-of-a kind showcase was live at the bus stop until Monday lunchtime when the device was replaced by a poster display.
