Managing health can be complicated. But what if it didn’t have to be?

At Galaxy Unpacked July 2026 in London on July 22, Dr. Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of the Digital Health Team, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics, sat down with cognitive neuroscientist and science communicator Dr. Dong-seon Chang to explore how AI could make health management simpler and more connected.

Dr. Pak explained how the body changes from day to day and how AI can learn an individual’s daily rhythms and patterns to help transform fragmented health data into more meaningful, personalised guidance. He also introduced Samsung Health’s Connected Care vision, extending beyond devices and data to connect people — from healthcare professionals and families to partners across the broader health ecosystem.

Ultimately, the conversation pointed to a broader question of how society can embrace AI while keeping people at the centre.

Watch the video below to learn more about Samsung’s vision for healthcare that is simpler, more connected, and human-centred.

From foldables to smartwatches, Samsung’s latest Galaxy devices take different forms but share the same design philosophy — comfort.

Samsung Newsroom spoke with Hubert Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of the Design Team, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics, to hear how this approach shaped the new lineup.

▲Hubert Lee

Q. What were the key design considerations for this year’s Galaxy foldable lineup?

Today’s Galaxy devices are faster and more powerful than ever. We considered how we could go one step further to deliver a more natural and comfortable experience.

Slimness and lightness are essential to creating a comfortable user experience, since they influence how naturally a device opens, how comfortable it feels in the hand and how easily it fits into everyday life. That is why we consider not only the product itself, but also every moment of the user experience it creates.

From an aesthetic perspective, we applied the concept of “Emotive Geometry.” This design approach brings human warmth to Galaxy’s simple, refined forms, creating a balanced design that goes beyond powerful performance to connect with users on an emotional level.

▲ Product sketches and design elements on display illustrate the design process behind the new Galaxy Z series.

Q. What drove the expansion of the Galaxy Z series portfolio?

Across seven generations of foldable innovation, we’ve gained a deeper understanding of how people use their devices. As user expectations for foldables have become more diverse, we have also recognised that no single foldable can meet every need – one size does not fit all.

Some users prioritise productivity and multitasking, while others value portability. Based on these insights, we expanded the Galaxy Z series lineup so each device could better serve different priorities.

Q. Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the slimmest Galaxy Z Fold yet. What shaped its exceptionally slim design?

The design concept behind the newest Galaxy Z series is “Emotive Slim” — an approach that focuses not only on reducing thickness, but also on how slim it looks and feels in everyday use.

We applied a gentle slope to the frame to make the foldable easier to open and created a more curved outer silhouette for a softer, more comfortable grip. We also minimised the flat side profile to create a visually slimmer appearance.

Q. Why was a passport chosen as the design inspiration for the new Galaxy Z Fold8?

The classic passport is designed to be easy to carry, hold with one hand and read at a glance. Those same ergonomic principles shaped Galaxy Z Fold8, extending our focus on comfort throughout the device’s overall layout.

When folded, it features a 16:10 aspect ratio optimised for one-handed use. Unfolded, it becomes a more immersive 4:3 display with balanced symmetry.

Q. How were these colors chosen for the new Galaxy Z series?

Each colour was chosen to reflect the lifestyle of the people each device is designed for. Violet Shadow gives Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra a chic, sophisticated look, while Lavender brings freshness and softness to Galaxy Z Fold8. Pink adds vibrant, playful energy to Galaxy Z Flip8. Cream and Graphite round out the palette with timeless versatility.

Q. How did Samsung refine the design of Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9?

If a smartphone lives in the hand, a smartwatch delivers its greatest value when it’s comfortable enough to wear every day. That’s why our approach to the new Galaxy Watch series focused on refinement rather than reinvention, preserving our core design while enhancing the details that matter most.

At the centre of Galaxy Watch is the cushion design. More than a shape, it defines the watch’s identity by balancing presence with softness and precision with comfort. For Galaxy Watch Ultra2, we brought the screen, bezel and cushion body into a seamless form, creating a cleaner profile and a more premium look. We also carefully refined the spacing and tactile separation between the buttons, making each one easier to distinguish by touch and enabling precise control without looking at the screen.

Q. How have the bands on Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 changed?

Bands play a critical role in wearability. For this generation, we made them lighter, thinner and more breathable with a new air pocket structure.

Because every wrist is different, we used computational design to validate comfort and fit using more than one hundred million real-user wrist data and ten thousand of simulations.

We refined the balance between the watch body and band for greater stability on the wrist, while expanded band options give users more ways to express their personal style.

Q. What design philosophy ties this year’s Galaxy devices together?

In an era shaped by AI-driven change, human-centred values are more important than ever. Design shouldn’t only be seen — it should also be felt. For design to feel truly human, it must begin with a deep understanding of how people live, work and interact with technology every day. That belief has guided our approach to designing foldables and smartwatches.

On July 22 at Galaxy Unpacked July 2026, Samsung Electronics introduced intelligent eyewear[1] as the first step toward making AI glasses the next interface for mobile AI.

Built on decades of expertise in mobile engineering, hardware design and product craftsmanship, intelligent eyewear combines true wearability with mobile AI experiences and seamless connectivity within the Galaxy ecosystem.

Samsung Newsroom spoke with James Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of XR R&D Team, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics, to learn about the development of intelligent eyewear, the engineering behind its design and Samsung’s long-term vision for the AI glasses category.

Q.Why is Samsung introducing intelligent eyewear now and why does it believe AI glasses will become the next interface for mobile AI?

AI glasses will only become mainstream if people genuinely want to wear them every day. Achieving this level of wearability requires more than advanced AI — it also demands deep engineering expertise, mobile technologies and an understanding of how people use technology in their daily lives. Drawing on decades of mobile leadership, Samsung is well positioned to bring these elements together and help move the category forward.

AI glasses understand what users see, hear and experience around them and enable more natural, contextual and seamless interactions, bringing AI closer to the moments that matter in everyday life. Our goal is not to replace the mobile phone but to create AI glasses that help people use their phones less, while getting more value from the mobile experiences they rely on. Samsung is laying the foundation for this vision through the new intelligent eyewear, extending mobile AI beyond the screen.

Q. What are the biggest engineering priorities when developing AI glasses?

The journey began with Galaxy XR. Through our experience developing it, we learned how to design technology that people can comfortably wear on their faces. We applied those insights to intelligent eyewear, focusing every engineering decision on comfort, fit and everyday use.

Wearability isn’t simply a design challenge — it’s an engineering one. When it comes to eyewear, even a tenth of a millimeter matters. That is why we took a holistic approach, carefully considering weight, materials, thermal management and battery efficiency.

Designed to be slim and light, intelligent eyewear incorporates patented slim hinges, advanced thin-wall molding, lightweight materials and optimized hardware components. Its hinge structure prevents corrosion and withstands the demands of everyday wear, while the patented temple architecture improves structural rigidity. Thermal graphite material on the left side of the glasses also helps prevent heat generated by the AP (Application Processor) from transferring to the user’s face.

Because every face is different, we used computational design and worked closely with our eyewear partners to refine the fit across key contact points including the forehead, cheekbones and behind the ears. We also balanced the weight across both sides of the frame, so users can barely notice any difference.

Samsung has filed around 200 patent applications in this category, reflecting its long-term investment in intelligent eyewear. Ultimately, all that engineering is designed to disappear into the experience, making the glasses feel as natural as an ordinary pair.

▲Intelligent eyewear was introduced at Galaxy Unpacked July 2026.

Q. How did you ensure intelligent eyewear was resilient enough for everyday use?

Users expect Samsung-quality products, regardless of form factor. We applied the manufacturing expertise and rigorous verification standards developed over decades of Galaxy device innovation, while introducing additional testing tailored to intelligent eyewear.

Because it is worn directly on the face, intelligent eyewear had to meet the standards of both mobile devices and eyewear — and go beyond them. It underwent extensive durability, environmental and safety testing, including exposure to high temperatures, humidity, sunscreen, cosmetics and sweat, as well as folding and hinge expansion tests.

Despite the extensive engineering packed into its slim and lightweight design, intelligent eyewear delivers uncompromising performance, including strong battery life. Through hardware and software optimization, intelligent eyewear provides up to nine hours of active use on a single charge, even during demanding experiences such as Gemini and video recording. The charging case enables more than seven full recharges for extended multi-day use.[2]

Q. Why do you see intelligent eyewear as a new entry point for mobile AI?

Intelligent eyewear introduces a more natural and intuitive way to experience mobile AI. Its ability to understand what users see, hear and experience around them enables more personalized, contextual support in the moment.

With a high-quality camera, microphones and speakers integrated into its frame, intelligent eyewear responds through natural conversation, while reducing the need for users to stop and reach for a phone.

From real-time guidance and live translation to line-of-sight capture and context-aware assistance, these experiences are designed to help users access mobile AI while staying present in what they are doing.[3]

Q. How does intelligent eyewear fit within the broader Galaxy ecosystem?

Intelligent eyewear is designed to work as a companion device to Galaxy phones and other Galaxy wearables, extending mobile AI beyond the screen through more personalized experiences. Users can access apps and services they already rely on — from Samsung and Google apps to third-party content — through a natural, hands-free interface.

For example, they can start recording hands-free with intelligent eyewear, preview what they have captured on Now Bar and then access it in Galaxy Gallery on their phone.[4] Through split computing, processing is distributed between intelligent eyewear and the connected Galaxy phone, helping optimize performance.

Intelligent eyewear also works with Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Buds. Users can manage the device directly from their wrist through the Galaxy Watch screen or with intuitive gestures.[5] When Galaxy Buds are connected, they can switch audio without interrupting the experience.

Q. How did you integrate privacy and trust into the design of intelligent eyewear?

As AI becomes more personal and integrated into everyday life, trust becomes even more important. That’s why privacy was built into intelligent eyewear from the beginning, with safeguards designed to protect users and those around them.

A bystander-facing LED indicator and an inner LED clearly show when recording is active. Wear detection automatically disables recording when the glasses are removed, while a thwart detection feature disables recording if the external LED indicator is blocked.

Users can also manage privacy and personalization settings through connected Galaxy phones. Their audio, video and screen-sharing data are not used to train AI models.

Samsung will continue to enhance its privacy features to give users greater transparency and control.

Q. What does intelligent eyewear represent for Samsung’s long-term vision?

Samsung has a long history of helping define new product categories — including foldables — and setting the standards consumers have come to expect from them. Intelligent eyewear is the next step in its vision to make AI more wearable, personal and seamlessly integrated into everyday life, but it is still only the beginning. With this first generation, Samsung aims to establish a new best-in-class benchmark for the emerging category and continue advancing it with each generation.

Across seven generations, Samsung has helped define the foldable category through advances in display technology, hinge engineering and materials innovation — all driven by a deep understanding of how people use their devices.

To hear how those insights guided the engineering behind Samsung’s latest foldables, Samsung Newsroom sat down with Sunghoon Moon, Executive Vice President and Senior Executive of Mobile R&D Office – Hardware, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics.

▲ Sunghoon Moon

Q. How have seven generations of user insights shaped Samsung’s approach to the latest Galaxy Z series?

From the beginning, we saw foldables as an opportunity to redefine how people interact with their smartphones — not simply as a new form factor. Through seven generations, we’ve learned how people open, carry, unfold and rely on their devices. Those insights have shaped our engineering priorities and guided each new generation of the Galaxy Z series.

Over time, three priorities became clear: larger, more immersive displays; thinner and lighter devices without compromising durability; and ultra performance while preserving the unique advantages of the foldable form factor. Delivering all three became the defining engineering challenge behind the latest Galaxy Z series.

Q. Samsung describes foldable innovation as engineering one connected system. What does that mean in practice?

With foldables, every component is interconnected. Making a device thinner, for example, means redesigning the display, hinge, battery, thermal system and internal architecture together. Rather than optimizing individual parts separately, we engineer the entire device as one connected system. This end-to-end engineering philosophy extends from materials and component design to manufacturing, validation and the final product experience — allowing engineering advancements to become improvements people experience every day.

▲ Samsung engineered each of the latest foldables as one connected system to bring about key improvements for users.

Q. The new Galaxy Z series introduces Flex Titanium technology. What engineering challenges did it solve?

Our goal was to make foldables thinner and lighter without compromising durability or the viewing experience. That required us to rework the display support structure protecting the ultra-thin OLED panel while preserving the flexibility needed for repeated folding.

Used in demanding industries such as aerospace, titanium offered the strength and resistance against permanent deformation essential for a foldable display. But selecting the material was only the beginning. The real challenge was developing the processing, structural design and manufacturing expertise needed to make titanium suitable for repeated folding.

▲ Flex Titanium technology makes the display thinner and more durable while reducing crease visibility.

Flex Titanium combines two titanium-based elements. The titanium plate beneath the display serves as the primary structural support, helping absorb pressure and impacts from both the front and rear of the device. A precision-engineered lattice structure — created through a hybrid manufacturing process — allows the plate to remain flexible while maintaining structural strength. Beneath the display panel, the titanium-alloy film provides the strength, flexibility and elastic recovery needed to support repeated everyday folding, even at a thickness of just tens of micrometers — roughly one-third the thickness of a human hair.

▲ Flex Titanium technology features an exceptionally thin titanium-alloy film and precision-engineered titanium plate.

Together, these innovations strengthened the display support structure while reducing display module thickness by 10%, creating additional space for the battery, thermal system and camera. For users, that translates into a thinner, lighter device with a flatter display and reduced crease visibility.

Q. How did Samsung reinvent the battery system for the latest Galaxy Z series?

Users expect longer battery life, faster charging and a thinner foldable — without compromising safety, stability or long-term reliability. Meeting those expectations required reengineering the battery system, not simply increasing battery capacity.

We introduced a silicon-carbon anode to improve energy density, but the innovation extends beyond the anode. Because silicon-carbon materials are more reactive, maintaining long-term stability under high-voltage conditions meant optimizing the entire battery system. Improvements to the display structure also created additional internal space, allowing us to redesign the battery system while preserving a slimmer form factor. As a result, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features a 5,000 mAh battery.

The same philosophy shaped charging. Rather than applying a single solution across the lineup, we developed charging architectures tailored to each foldable form factor. Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8 use a dual-path charging architecture that helps distribute power more efficiently across the battery system, enabling faster, more stable and reliable charging while improving heat management. This supports 45 W fast charging, enabling Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra to reach a 67% charge in 30 minutes. For Galaxy Z Flip8, the charging architecture was separately optimized for the unique spatial and thermal requirements of its compact form factor.

Q. To ensure foldables can withstand years of everyday use, how does Samsung validate durability before bringing a device to market?

For us, durability isn’t just about design — it must be proven through testing. We validated the complete foldable system under conditions that reflect how people use their devices. The latest Galaxy Z series was subjected to more than 100 reliability validation tests covering real-world conditions including drops, repeated folding, pressure, moisture and debris. Our goal was to understand how the complete device performs in everyday use, identify potential issues before they reach customers and build foldables people can trust.

Q. Looking back at the entire development process, how would you describe Samsung’s approach behind the Galaxy Z series?

Everything starts with the user. Over seven generations, we’ve transformed user insights into innovations in materials, components and the overall device experience. That philosophy continues to guide the Galaxy Z series — delivering foldables that are thinner, more durable, more capable and more intuitive year after year.

▲ Over the years, Samsung has transformed user insights into advancements for the Galaxy Z series.

Combining agentic AI that understands users with hardware tailored to different lifestyles, the lineup offers three distinct foldable experiences.

Samsung Newsroom got an early look at the new devices during Galaxy Unpacked July 2026 — from Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, the first Ultra model in the Galaxy foldable portfolio, to Galaxy Z Fold8 with its all-new form factor and Galaxy Z Flip8 with more intuitive AI on FlexWindow.

▲ (From left) Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: The Ultra Experience on a Foldable Display

Within the Galaxy lineup, the “Ultra” name represents Samsung’s highest level of performance and user experience. As the first Ultra model in the Galaxy Z series, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra pairs ultra-level performance with an expansive foldable display to elevate productivity through AI-powered multitasking.

▲ Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features a remarkably thin profile when unfolded.

The first thing that stands out is how thin the device is. Unfolding it reveals a spacious 8-inch main display[1]. Measuring 4.1 millimetres thick when unfolded and weighing only 215 grams, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the thinnest Galaxy Z Fold yet — making it comfortable to carry and use throughout the day.

The display has been refined to deliver smoother, more comfortable folding. The folding magnets, hinge mechanism and display tension have been precisely optimised, while refinements to the edge design make the device easier to unfold. Samsung’s proprietary Flex Titanium technology helps minimise the display crease while enhancing durability[2].

▲ Flex Titanium technology reduces crease visibility.

The expansive display also unlocks enhanced AI experiences.

Gemini Notebook streamlines the process of organising meeting materials and notes. Users can upload a PDF of meeting minutes or an audio recording of a presentation to generate a summary of the key points, then transform the same source material into a variety of formats — including AI-generated videos, presentation slides, podcasts and quizzes.

▲ Gemini Notebook

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra truly shines in AI-powered multitasking. Agentic AI anticipates when multitasking is needed, using Now Nudge[3] to open Multi Window at the right moment. For example, Now Nudge can suggest adding dinner plans from a messaging app to the calendar and open the Calendar app in Multi Window.

▲ Now Nudge

Qualcomm Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5[4] for Galaxy and a 5,000mAh battery[5] support Galaxy AI experiences and seamless multitasking on the expansive display.

Galaxy Z Fold8: A Foldable, Reimagined

Redesigned with an all-new form factor, Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces an aspect ratio optimised for a wide range of content.

▲ Galaxy Z Fold8 features new display proportions across its 5.5-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch main display.

Unfolding the device expands the display to a 4:3[6] aspect ratio, ideal for watching movies or playing games. Rotating the device switches to a 3:4 aspect ratio that feels more natural for reading e-books or browsing the web. The cover screen’s 10:16[7] aspect ratio also provides a familiar experience for browsing short-form content.

Galaxy Z Fold8 goes beyond content consumption with tools for creating and editing.

Galaxy AI-powered My FanCam[10] makes it easy to create videos focused on a specific person.
▲ My FanCam

The device also delivers a more advanced agentic AI experience.

For example, if a user shares a photo of the Eiffel Tower with Gemini and asks it to book a nearby hotel, the AI agent finds accommodations that match the specified criteria — even while they continue using other apps. Afterward, they can simply review the recommendations and approve only the actions that require confirmation, saving time and effort.

▲ Agentic AI

Galaxy Z Flip8: More Without Unfolding

Galaxy Z Flip8 makes a strong first impression with its thin, lightweight design. Measuring 6.1 millimetres thick when unfolded and weighing only 180 grams, it offers excellent portability. A stronger frame and a more durable hinge made with a new high-strength material improve durability while maintaining the device’s slim profile.

▲ Galaxy Z Flip8 is comfortable to hold.

One of Galaxy Z Flip8’s biggest upgrades is its more versatile FlexWindow. Users can check important information and access their favourite features without unfolding the device.

Another highlight is Galaxy AI’s Now Brief[11]. From FlexWindow, users can instantly see the day’s weather, schedule and important notifications. Everyday information such as exchange rates and stock updates are organised into personalised cards, making it easy to stay on top of the day.

▲ Now Brief on FlexWindow

App functionality also extends to FlexWindow. Without unfolding the device, users can browse photos in the Gallery app, chat with friends through messaging apps and quickly complete tasks. More than a hub for notifications and widgets, FlexWindow has evolved into a gateway to more of what Galaxy has to offer.

The camera experience has also been refined to better complement the Galaxy Z Flip form factor. Camcorder Grip — exclusive to the Galaxy Z Flip series — enables stable one-handed recording, while Super Steady’s horizontal lock helps keep footage smooth and level, even on the move.

Dual Recording captures both the creator and the subject in the same video, perfect for vlogs and social media challenges. Opening the Camera app displays the creator’s view at the top of the screen and the subject’s view below, allowing both perspectives to be recorded simultaneously. A live preview is also available on the cover screen, so both can see the shot while filming.

▲ Dual Recording

From AI-powered productivity on a large display to optimised content viewing and everyday convenience without unfolding, the eighth-generation Galaxy Z series expands the possibilities of foldables. Designed to suit a wide range of needs, the latest Galaxy foldables offer users more ways to choose the mobile experience that suits them.

At Galaxy Unpacked 2026 in London, Samsung Electronics set out its vision for the next chapter of digital health — a future where care moves from reactive treatment toward preventive, personalised and connected experiences, supported by trusted health innovation and partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem.

To explore that vision, Samsung hosted a Health Forum panel, “Rewriting the Rules of Preventive Health.” Moderated by Dr. Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of the Digital Health Team, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics, the session brought together leaders across nutrition, fitness, clinical research and AI to examine how technology can close the gap between knowing and doing in everyday health.

▲ (From left) Otávio Penatti, Kevin Duffy, Moderator Dr. Hon Pak.

The Paradox — and the “Missing Miles” of Health

Opening the discussion, Dr. Pak described a paradox at the heart of modern health: innovation and technology today has been transformational and accelerating, yet chronic disease continues to rise around the world.

“We live in the most measured era in human history — billions of people track their sleep, their stress, their heart rate every single day. And yet chronic disease keeps rising. More data, it turns out, hasn’t resulted in better health.”

He framed the disconnect as two “missing miles.” The first mile is detection and monitoring: much of what shapes our health happens outside the clinic, and until recently, continuous monitoring was neither available nor connected to the physician. The last mile is action: even after a diagnosis and a care plan, it is the individual who has to act day after day — and life is busy, and change is hard.

▲ Dr. Hon Pak

Samsung, Dr. Pak argued, is uniquely positioned to close both gaps. With technology that stays with people throughout their daily lives — across wearables, mobile phones, and a connected ecosystem — Samsung can understand not just raw biometric numbers, but the context behind them.

“We don’t just see a number — we see what’s around it: whether this is a moment you’re ready to change something, or a moment you need a bit of support. Being there, at the point where personal decisions actually get made, is hard for a hospital, or any other company, to measure or act upon.”

But no single company can do this alone. That, he said, is why Samsung is building Connected Care together with partners — closing the first and last mile to scale prevention, with AI as the enabler across both. He introduced the three focus areas that would structure the conversation: everyday behaviour, clinical credibility and privacy, and advanced AI and research.

Everyday Behaviour: Closing the Last Mile at the Dinner Table and the Gym

Diet and exercise are two of the biggest levers on long-term health — and two of the most within our control. They are also, Dr. Pak noted, where the gap between knowing and doing is widest.

Kartik Poria, Head of Product at Samsung Food, located that gap in a moment everyone recognises.

“It’s Tuesday, six o’clock. You’re tired, you’re staring into the fridge, and everything you know about eating well loses to whatever’s quickest. That moment is what we’re going after — because what you eat, day after day, is one of the biggest levers we have on preventing chronic disease.”

He described how Samsung Health and Samsung Food are coming together to tackle two halves of the same problem: Samsung Health surfaces what is happening beneath the surface — indicators such as meal logs, BMI, the Antioxidant Index and the AGEs Index — while Samsung Food’s global recipe library facilitates meal planning and its food intelligence reflect how people actually like to eat. Sitting on top is a nutrition experience grounded in behaviour change science rather than tracking alone — learning a person’s habits and working with them so the healthier pattern becomes the easier one.

“We’re not adding another thing to manage — we’re making the healthy choice the easy one, for the night you’ve got the energy to cook and the night you don’t.”

▲ Kartik Poria from Samsung Food

Turning to movement, Kevin Duffy, CEO of iFIT, described exercise as foundational to both physical and mental wellbeing, and explained how iFIT’s expert-led programs are becoming more accessible through Samsung Health.

“Exercise is vital for both physical and mental wellbeing — cardiovascular health, strength, mobility, sleep quality, stress management.”

Through Samsung Health, users can discover and subscribe to iFIT’s premium fitness programs, while iFIT workouts integrate with Galaxy Watch so users can track key metrics during guided sessions. With Fitness Index, they receive a holistic view of their physical fitness in a single, easy-to-understand score, with personalised recommendations. Looking ahead, Duffy pointed to Samsung’s Health Assistant as a way to bring a user’s Fitness Index, goals and activity history together to surface the most relevant workout at the right moment.

“Exercise is not just about being active — it’s about understanding your body, building sustainable habits, and having the right guidance at the right time. By combining iFIT’s expert-led experiences with Samsung Health’s connected insights, we can help more people make movement a meaningful part of their everyday lives.”

▲ Kevin Duffy from iFIT

But content and insights alone, Dr. Pak noted, don’t close the last mile. The harder question is how to move from engagement to activation. Samsung designs for real life, recognising that people slip and miss goals most of the time — and that those moments are precisely when timely, well-contextualised support matters most.

The real measure, he argued, is not how often the system nudges someone, but how many healthy actions actually happen — a doctor’s low-salt advice quietly showing up as items in a grocery cart, or a workout that meets a person where they actually are that day. Poria added that this is the true shift: from nudging people to changing the choice in front of them.

Clinical Credibility and Privacy: Trust Earned Through Evidence

Dr. Pak turned next to the question of trust — noting that wearable data is now something most clinicians have seen, but far fewer have been able to build into their day-to-day care. Closing that gap, he said, is a matter of evidence, workflow and trust.

Rohit Ail, Head of the Technology Incubation Lab at Samsung R&D Institute UK (SRUK), spoke to how his team works to generate clinical evidence in real-world settings.

“Our goal is to meet the standards expected by clinicians, researchers and regulatory bodies, and that means generating evidence in real-world clinical environments. This commitment builds on Samsung’s growing body of clinical research and validation evidence.”

He referenced ongoing collaborations across Europe, including partnerships with the NHS and clinical validation studies with leading hospitals. With San Cecilio University Hospital in Spain and Gemelli in Italy, Samsung is working on identifying and managing cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk using AI and decision-support technologies; with Fondazione IRCCS in Italy, the focus is on understanding and addressing the late effects faced by adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors through AI-based digital phenotyping and a non-invasive, holistic approach.

On privacy, Ail noted that Samsung considers user data to belong to the user, with Samsung acting as custodian.

“Trust begins with protecting users’ data. Samsung takes a three-layer approach: Samsung Knox for device-level security, GDPR-compliant infrastructure, and alignment with the European Health Data Space framework.”

He added that SRUK has also developed a Decentralized Clinical Trial framework, in which participant identities remain under the control of healthcare organisations and data is pseudonymised from the outset.

▲ Rohit Ail from Samsung R&D Institute UK

Advanced AI and Research: Reading the Body’s Signals

If everyday reach and clinical trust are two of the three pillars, intelligence is what binds them together. Dr. Pak introduced foundation models as a genuine turning point — a shift from population averages to something truly personal.

Otávio Penatti, Head of the Health AI R&D Team at Samsung R&D Institute Brazil (SRBR), explained what a foundation model for health actually means.

“A health foundation model is an AI model that uses self-supervised learning to learn meaningful features from unlabelled biosignal data. At Samsung, we are advancing health foundation model research across multiple global research teams, combining expertise in biosignal intelligence, wearable AI, and personalised health insights. Building on the success of large language models, we can now interpret complex biosignals — such as ECG, ACC and PPG — not as isolated data points, but as a structured biological language. These signals can be measured through wearable devices in everyday situations, and by applying foundation models to understand these biological patterns, we have the potential to provide more accurate predictions and continuous, personalised health insights.”

▲ Otávio Penatti from Samsung R&D Institute Brazil

Three Focus Areas, One Goal

To close, Dr. Pak asked each panelist for a one-sentence vision of Connected Care in the era of AI five years from now.

Kartik Poria (Samsung Food): “In five years, eating well won’t run on willpower — it’ll feel like having a chef and a dietitian in your pocket, turning what your body needs into what’s for dinner, day after day.”

Kevin Duffy (iFIT): “A coach that knows your body and adapts every workout to who you are that day.”

Rohit Ail (SRUK): “Care that clinicians trust and patients control — evidence-based and private by design.”

Otávio Penatti (SRBR): “AI that understands the body’s language and acts before problems begin.”

Dr. Pak closed by tying the threads together: everyday behaviour, clinical trust and personal AI — three focus areas, one goal of closing the first and last mile to scale prevention while meeting people where they are.

“The future of health is connected, trusted and proactive — and it’s a road we’re glad to be traveling together.”

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today introduced its intelligent eyewear at Galaxy Unpacked in London. Building on the concepts announced at the latest Google I/O, the new designs were developed with global eyewear brands, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. The intelligent eyewear shows how the Galaxy ecosystem can move beyond the mobile phone and into eyewear that supports daily routines, work, travel and hands-free moments.

What’s New:

Designed for everyday use, the eyewear pairs a lightweight frame and slim profile with the durability and comfort needed for daily wear.

Developed in collaboration with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, the eyewear reflects each brand’s expertise in design, offering a range of frame styles, colours and lens options to suit different preferences and lifestyles.

“As agentic AI reshapes mobile experiences, the next step is to make those experiences more intuitive and responsive to each user’s context,” said Won-Joon Choi, Chief Operating Officer of the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. “Intelligent eyewear creates a new point of interaction, bringing more personalised AI assistance naturally into the moments that make up everyday life.”

Why it Matters

As AI enters an agentic era, the question is no longer only how intelligent it becomes, but where and how that intelligence meets people. Mobile phones remain at the center of connected experiences, while devices across the Galaxy ecosystem add context to different moments of daily life. Intelligent eyewear represents that next step, bringing AI closer to people as they move, work, communicate and explore, without requiring every interaction to begin with a screen.

Built for these moments, intelligent eyewear brings AI directly into the user’s line of sight, providing timely information and assistance while allowing them to stay engaged with the people, places and tasks around them. Clear controls and safeguards support responsible and secure use, while hands-free access delivers assistance naturally without requiring users to stop what they are doing or turn to another screen.

New Intelligent Eyewear Experience

Designed for everyday wear, the eyewear combines a lightweight frame, slim profile and battery performance, offering up to nine hours on a single charge with up to seven additional full charges from the charging case. [1] A built-in camera brings visual context into the AI experience, while Snapdragon® AR1 Gen1 [2] Platform supports the AI performance designed for real-time assistance, with touch interaction, connectivity, power efficiency and thermal management optimised within the eyewear’s compact frame.

As a hands-free extension of the Galaxy experience, the device lets users stay focused on the moment. Built in partnership with Google, it brings Gemini into a familiar wearable form factor, making interaction feel more natural, immediate and intuitive.

“Google and Samsung have a shared vision to bring helpful and context-aware intelligence into everyday life.” said Sameer Samat, President of Android Ecosystem at Google. “Built on the Android XR platform, the intelligent eyewear blends world-class designs with Gemini’s advanced assistance that naturally responds to what you see, delivering all-day, hands-free help. We’re excited to continue this momentum and bring this experience to people soon.”

Key experiences include:

Staying in the moment: The device can help summarise long messages, read key information aloud, support live translation and allow users to control the experience with simple voice or gesture interactions through connected devices.[3]

Capturing context: When prompted, the eyewear can capture what the user is seeing, such as a whiteboard or meeting discussion, organise key information in Notes, and make it easier to review, share and follow-up on later.[4]

Real-time interaction: Users can ask for guidance based on their location, such as finding a route, setting a destination or understanding what is around them, while live translation can support communication in another language. [5]

Context-aware assistance: The device can support more useful follow-up interactions by understanding the user’s current context and connecting relevant information across tasks, helping users continue where they left off with less repetition. [6]

Live visual sharing: Users can share what they are seeing during a call or record their own point of view, making communication more immediate while keeping their hands free. [7]

A More Personal Approach to Eyewear

Eyewear is both a functional product and a personal style statement. Samsung worked with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to create intelligent eyewear that balances thoughtful design, comfort and everyday wearability. By combining Samsung’s hardware craftsmanship with each brand’s distinctive design approach, the collaboration offers a broader range of styles to suit different preferences, lifestyles and occasions.

At Unpacked, Samsung introduced two distinct designs by: Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.

The Gentle Monster edition features a slim frame in black, pairing a straight upper rim with softly rounded lower edges to create a refined and fashion-forward silhouette. The Warby Parker style features a subtly upswept brow line in a rich brown hue, creating a refined, versatile shape perfect for everyday settings.

Throughout the design process, Samsung worked closely with the eyewear partners to refine key fit points such as the forehead and ears. These insights helped shape the final designs with enhanced comfort and everyday wearability. Fit considerations were tailored to each model, alongside durability and reliable performance.

[1]Battery life varies by network environment, features and apps used, device settings, the number of times charged, and may other factors.

[2]Snapdragon is a trademark or registered trademark of Qualcomm Incorporated. Snapdragon and Snapdragon branded products are products of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and/or its subsidiaries.

[3]Feature availability of the features may require a network connection, compatible Galaxy device or supported app. Gesture interactions are only provided through Watch9

[4]Feature availability and supported workflows may vary. Samsung Notes integration and related actions may require compatible Samsung services and devices.

[5]Translation and navigation-related experiences may vary by language, region, app, service provider and network environment.

[6]Contextual and history-based experiences may require user permission, supported apps and compatible services.

[7]Live visual sharing and recording features may vary by app, service, market and applicable laws or consent requirements.

AI-Powered Health Intelligence: Comprehensive and Actionable Health Insights

At the core of Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 are Samsung’s AI-powered health features.
