London – Friday, December 6, 2024: As Christmas draws closer, new research from Samsung found that leftovers are a consistent headache for Christmas cooks, keeping our fridges jam-packed throughout the festive season, with one in four (80%) of households admitting to being left with surplus supplies after the main Christmas dinner or lunch.

The night kicked off with a series of entertaining product demonstrations, assisted by two of the UK’s most formidable drag artistes, the Clean Qweens.  The assembled audience of media, content creators and comedy fans were invited to get hands-on with products, from navigating a Samsung Bespoke Jet Bot around an obstacle course, to timed trials to suck up five balls with the Samsung Bespoke Jet AI Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner. LONDON, UK – 28th June 2024 – One of the UK’s top family relationship experts has advised on how to tackle domestic discord, suggesting AI could be Brits’ secret ally in smoothing out household squabbles.  

Paul C Brunson who is a professional matchmaker, author and life coach, and co-host of Celebs Go Dating and Married at First Sight UK turned his skills to the ultimate challenge – resolving the tensions that lead to everyday bickering within British homes. 

“AI-enabled technology can help make families more harmonious by preventing domestic discord before it happens,” according to the relationship expert. “It can handle many of the household tasks that often cause tensions to mount, helping to keep the wheels from falling off the family wagon. Common flashpoints such as leaving lights on can be dissolved through AI-enabled tech, which allows you to view a 3D map of your home and control your connected devices from your phone.”

His insight follows new research revealing British households collectively notch up 39 hours a year bickering – typically having two disagreements a day lasting roughly three minutes each – adding up to 45 minutes per week or 39 hours per year. That’s the equivalent of enduring or enjoying 26 football matches, without extra time!

Over a quarter (28%) of adults admitted leaving lights on can lead to crossed wires – as well as rising electricity bills.

The study was commissioned to mark the launch of Samsung UK’s new ad campaign: ‘You and AI. As One’ shows their AI-enabled products working in unison together to bring balance to modern family life – helping families with their everyday chores.

The top family tiffs that make everyone’s eyes roll include: not turning lights off (28%), not doing their fair share of chores (24%), and the classic ‘leaving things on the floor’ (23%).

However, the solution could be AI which, only eight per cent have used AI to help them with tasks around the home.

One in four said they think AI could be a peacekeeper, helping to reduce the number of household squabbles. Turning off lights (19 per cent), devices which can control energy usage (17 per cent) and a fridge which tells you when food is about to go off (15 per cent) are the top tech developments people think could help reduce tensions.

Paul C Brunson added: “The rise in AI-enabled tech should be embraced more widely – and could lead to happier households as a result.”

“Household tiffs are a normal part of everyday life,” he said. “But I think we can all agree that spending an inordinate amount of time on these is unnecessary and could be avoided where possible.  I mean, who wants to bicker about keeping the noise down while you’re watching your favourite show when you can have an AI TV that does this for you.”

“Having open and honest communication is key and can be helped by having regular family meetings to air our feelings.”

The poll of 2,000 UK adults found 87 per cent agreed their rows are trivial, whilst 65 per cent agreed the occasional spirited debate was needed to clear the air now and then.

When it comes to figuring out the origins of these trivial tiffs, there are mixed perceptions in UK households. Whilst more than a quarter (26 per cent) boldly held their hands up and admitted often the instigator, a third (36 per cent) proudly claimed to be the ‘Chief Peacekeeper’ at home.

Mr Brunson added: “Samsung has AI-enabled technology like checking the fridge remotely whilst you’re doing a food shop, making sure lights aren’t left on so electricity bills don’t pile up – or even do the vacuuming for us. Paul C Brunson’s tips for solving domestic discord:

1. Being open and having things like family meetings allows people to address any recurring issues. Family meetings also give you time to figure out solutions together. Make sure everyone is heard, as that’s critical in ensuring buy-in moving forward.
2. Taking the guesswork out of responsibility makes it impossible for there to be any confusion. Things like chore charts are a great visual cue and encourage people to do their fair share. Rotating chores also helps avoid boredom.
3. Get to know each other better. For example, by cooking dinner together the main chef of the house can teach some of their skills to other family members. It can also help show them why a pile of dirty dishes in the sink or a dishwasher full of clean utensils can make a normally fun activity into something more frustrating.
4. Discussing household squabbles outside the home in a neutral setting can reduce emotional intensity and keep the conversation objective and respectful. This is very helpful if you’re running into repeated clashes with a specific family member.
5. Neutral environments, like parks or cafés, help the focus shine on solutions rather than getting stuck in the problem. Keep a positive tone, use structured dialogue, and stay solution-oriented. When at home, implement the solution and keep talking to help encourage progress.
6. If verbal communication isn’t your strong suit, that’s ok. Try writing your family member a letter. This method allows you to express your emotions and thoughts without the pressure of a face-to-face confrontation.

More Efficient Than Class “A” Through Samsung’s Advanced Technologies

The new washing machine lineup brings significant energy savings to the laundry process, with the most notable achievement being the 40% more energy efficient than A rated model1. Samsung has introduced advanced technologies into the lineup in order to achieve this.

The core technology leading the extra energy saving is the Bubble Shot^[3]. It sprays soapy water inside the drum on top of the clothes by pulling it through a circulation pump. This means the detergent penetrates evenly, enhancing overall washing efficiency.

The newly launched Bubble Shot Technology helps users save water and cycle time when using the Cotton cycle. using up to 20% less water^[4] than a conventional washing machine. Using the same amount of detergent, it also means the density of the detergent is higher, enhancing the performance while shortening the washing cycle time by up to 25%^[4] .

With AI Energy Mode^[5], available through the SmartThings app10, energy monitoring is extended even further. Users can monitor their daily, weekly and monthly power consumption, with the feature even estimating users’ monthly energy bills. If the monthly electricity bill indicates that it may exceed a users’ target, SmartThings Energy can turn on the energy saving mode, which then smartly reduces energy consumption by up to 70% compared to washing in warm water^[6].

Elevating User Experiences with AI-Based Technologies

While the new lineup improves the performance in energy efficiency, the core functions also help users reduce efforts in treating their laundry.

AI Wash takes the guesswork out of the perfect wash. Four sensors weigh your wash load and check the level of soiling to adjust the water, amount of detergent dispensed, rinse time and spin speed* for great results and minimal wear and tear with every wash.

A Wide Range of Impressive Laundry Features

Samsung has applied and expanded features in three important areas of the laundry experience ― the reduction of microplastics release, ease of use, and washing time. Here is how:

Less Microfiber Cycle: All entries in the lineup come with the standard Less Microfiber Cycle. It was created to help shed less microplastics being discharged into drain water from clothes. By adjusting the motor’s revolution speed and washing intensiveness, this cycle reduces the amount of microfiber released in the drain water

Detergent Scan^[8] and Care Label Scan^[9]: Enjoy personalised and efficient laundry. Clothing Care^[10] analyses your usage^[11] to make recommendations and customise cycles^[12]. By scanning the barcode on detergent, it automatically sets the appropriate amount for each load^[13]. When you take a photo of the care label on your clothes and register them in ‘My Closet’ it suggests customised courses for items selected from it, so you get the perfect wash.

LONDON, United Kingdom – April 3 2024 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced the launch of its new energy-efficient 75cm Wide Combi Fridge Freezer^[1] in Europe. The refrigerator was unveiled at ‘Welcome to BESPOKE AI’, a global launch event held at les Pavillon des Étangs in Paris on April 3. It achieves a high energy rating as a product itself, while its Wi-Fi capabilities allow for even further energy savings with SmartThings Energy^[2].

“In response to the reality that energy efficiency is more important to consumers than ever, Samsung is launching a new model for the modern era,” said Moohyung Lee, EVP and Head of the Customer Experience Team of Digital Appliances (DA) Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through our considerable R&D efforts, we’ve been able to provide energy-saving opportunities in addition to the Samsung quality and features that global consumers appreciate. We’re confident that users would take advantages of Samsung’s new refrigerator in their day-to-day lives.”

Notably, the refrigerator has received an energy “A” rating according to EU energy standards, which is for the first time in Samsung’s 75cm Wide Combi Fridge Freezer type. Samsung implements its unique solutions to decrease energy consumption by 55.9% compared to the conventional model^[3]. Especially the new AI Inverter Compressor^[4] is a key part to achieve an A grade according to EU energy standards.

The new high-efficient AI Inverter Compressor has been redesigned to increase the radius of the rotating parts which enables its inertia to be higher than the conventional compressor^[5] by 4.1 times. It means that the compressor can keep the power longer, so it uses less energy while keeping the temperature in the fridge moderate. The compressor also contributes to lowering the noise level by up to 5 times quieter than the conventional model^[6] thanks to the new control technology.

Additionally, the 75cm Wide Combi Fridge Freezer supports the energy saving mode in SmartThings Energy^[7] which can reduce energy use by up to 15%^[8]. The SmartThings AI Energy Mode also allows users to easily check daily, weekly and monthly power consumption, and it even estimates monthly electric bills. If usage exceeds the established estimate, the mode can also proactively save energy^[9]. Furthermore, it can optimize the compressor speed and defrost cycle frequency, based on usage and surroundings, ensuring that users can enjoy fresher food items for longer.

Samsung also made the model to be competitive both in capacity and design as well. To enhance the capacity benefits of having a refrigerator with a wider width than common type, Samsung applies SpaceMax technology which has been the heritage of Samsung refrigerator. The fridge makes use of thin walls and efficient insulation to increase the storage volume while maintaining consistent temperatures. The extra storage space does not impact the exterior of the refrigerator, either, as the relatively compact size creates more room in users’ homes.

Apart from its performance and storage capabilities, the refrigerator brings a sleek design that makes it a great aesthetic fit for modern homes. It boasts a fully flat door and a recessed handle that grants the refrigerator a harmonious aesthetic. The Gentle Lighting controls brightness and prevents glare as well.

Availability

The energy-efficient 75cm Wide Combi Fridge Freezer will be available in three capacity variants (538L, 508L and 458L) depending on the region, launching in Europe, CIS, the Middle East, Latin America, Southeast Asia, Canada and Africa.

The refrigerator is expected to be available from April in Europe and other regions sequentially.

Samsung shares its vision for how connectivity among the products can improve the overall experience at home and how artificial intelligence (AI) enhances the performance of appliances.

Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics, kicked off the marathon of events by opening the media event at the Seoul ‘BESPOKE AI’ by describing how Samsung home appliances not only perform well with everyday tasks but can do more than previously imagined with the power of AI. Especially with interactive screens being added to the refrigerator and induction hob, , Bespoke appliances will become a platform for entertainment, as well as an easy-to-access control hub for other connected Samsung appliances through SmartThings ^[1].

“Since the first introduction of BESPOKE in 2019, Samsung Electronics has presented to the market, appliances that can be customised to best fit each user’s home and lifestyle,” said JH Han. “Five years later, we now share our vision for AI in appliances with the products that expand the Bespoke legacy through enhanced connectivity and AI capabilities that will take the consumer experience to the next level.”

Bespoke AI Appliances Sync to Create New Experiences in Various Home Spaces

With built-in Wi-Fi, internal cameras, AI chips and compatibility with the SmartThings application, Samsung’s latest Bespoke AI appliances come with enhanced features and connectivity to lay the foundation for a truly smart home. In particular, the new AI Hub, a connected 7-inch LCD display that has been added to multiple products, provides intuitive, easy access and control over the entire connected ecosystem.

The AI Hub includes Map View, a feature that provides users with a full 3D view of the house, allowing them to easily locate all the appliances that are connected and control them. When a user is cooking in the kitchen and feels that the temperature is too hot, for instance, they could turn on the air conditioner in other rooms through the AI Hub on the induction range^[2] without leaving the pots and pans unattended. While doing laundry, they could use the AI Hub on the washing machine to start the robot vacuum cleaner in the living room, without having to make the journey back and forth. Moreover, the AI Hub not only makes housework easier, but more enjoyable as well. Users can play their favourite songs, watch videos on the Internet app, or refer to recipes on the screen while they are cooking.

Considering how people have mobile phones with them most of the time, Mobile Smart Connect is a new feature that pushes an alert to the phone when it is at close range with registered appliances. The pop-up notification includes quick control menu to execute key functions for the appliance directly from the phone, so users no longer have to look through the house to find the actual remote control^[3]. This eliminates even the few steps and clicks that were required to access same features in the SmartThings application.

At the BESPOKE AI event, Samsung also showcases the new feature ‘Calm Onboarding’, which makes it easier for users to join Samsung’s connected life. It frees users from having to go through the hassle of product registration, as it directly registers products purchased under a Samsung account at Samsung.com on to the SmartThings app with the same account.

To provide assurance to users as they step into the era of hyper-connected home appliances driven by technological advancement, Samsung also highlighted its comprehensive Knox Matrix security platform that protects all user data located on the connected appliances. In fact, the 4-Door French Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub^[4] became the first product in the industry to be verified to level ‘Diamond’ for its IoT security capabilities by UL Solutions, a leading global safety science company that evaluates hundreds of marketing claims each year. Other Family Hub models ^[5]applying the same technology, and the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI have also achieved the same verification.

AI Expands Spectrum of Features to Samsung Home Appliances

The most distinctive difference between the three events, other than the location, is the product lineup unveiled during the respective press conferences, which reflects the actual appliances that will launch in each market.

The Seoul ‘BESPOKE AI’ event started off with the biggest lineup among the three locations with 14 new products including: the Bespoke French Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+, Hybrid Refrigerator, Bespoke Infinite Induction Line, Bespoke AI Laundry Combo^[6], Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI, Bespoke Jet AI, Bespoke Cube Air Infinite Line and more.

The French Style Four Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub^[7] is the primary control centre for all things food, connecting the refrigerator to other appliances in the home. The AI Family Hub+^[8], which is the large LCD screen in the front right panel of the refrigerator, is the key to intuitive AI experience, where users can view recommended recipes and play music and videos for kitchen entertainment. It comes with AI Vision Inside^[9] which uses an internal camera to identify 33 fresh food items that go in and out of the fridge. The recognised food items are listed and managed on the Family Hub display and can also be checked on the SmartThings app^[10].

Another key product is the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI, a robot vacuum and mop cleaner with AI-enhanced features such as intelligent AI Recognition and Clean Station Steam+ to achieve better cleaning results with less effort. The intelligent AI Recognition performs in different ways. The AI Object Recognition uses the AI Deep Neural Network (DNN) model and camera to recognize various objects^[11] including people^[12], pets^[13], and hard-to-see items like thin phone cables, rugs or mats. The AI Floor Detect senses the type of floor to clean, and when carpets are detected, the robot vacuum decides whether to lift up its mop or to go and leave the mop at its station to avoid contaminating the carpet with its wet mop.

As energy-saving is an important criteria in the European market, the Paris ‘BESPOKE AI’ event additionally introduced the new energy-efficient extra wide fridge freezer^[14] and the washer lineup. The extra wide fridge freezer is the first of its kind in the European market to receive an “A” grade according to European energy standards, thanks to Samsung’s unique solutions to decrease energy consumption by 56% compared to the conventional model^[15]. The new washer lineup includes various models from A-10%, A-20% and even an A-40% extra energy saving model^[16]. Especially A-40% extra energy efficient model is equipped with Bubble Shot Technology, which saves energy by pumping up the water inside the drum and spraying it on to top of the clothes.

The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, presented at both Seoul and NYC events, is the All-in-One washer and dryer, providing the advantages of two separate appliances while freeing up valuable space. It comes with various AI features, such as remembering the periodic and seasonal needs of users and recommending the optimal cycle for the wash^[17]. With AI Opti Wash & Dry, the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo intelligently adjusts the washing and drying performance for each load and senses the weight of the laundry to dispense the appropriate amount of water and detergent. It also detects the fabric^[18] and monitors the level of soiling during a cycle, adding more detergent and varying the washing time if necessary. It then adjusts the drying process to suit the weight and fabric type of users’ laundry. After finishing the cycle, users can monitor how much energy and water were consumed through a report provided on the Smart Things app^[19].

A unique appliance introduced only at the New York event held in Samsung 837 was the Bespoke Slide-in Range with AI Hub. This product is a multi-functional induction range that also comes with various fun factors. It comes with an Internal Oven Camera that lets users see inside the oven from remote places, like on the TV^[20] from the living room, or even from outside the home through Smart Things on their mobile phones. With this, users can even get a short time-lapse video clip^[21] with highlights of the cooking process that they can share on social media.

Furthermore, Samsung is the first in the industry to incorporate generative AI to home appliances. Especially, Bixby, Samsung’s voice assistant, will be a key in this. Generative AI will allow Bixby to go one step further from the current ability of being able to execute one order at a time, comprehending complex sentences and engage in natural conversations. First of all, it will be able to understand compound demands like “Turn on the air conditioner to Wind Free mode, and let me know how the weather is.” It can also retain context from previous interactions for continuity, so if the user instructs Bixby to turn off the air purifier and then add, “Oh, and the TV, too,” Bixby can assist both requests. Users can also rely on Bixby to come up with solutions, simply saying “the living room feels humid”, and ask, “What should I do with all the potatoes I bought yesterday?” Bixby will interpret these multi-layered tasks and respond naturally to users’ prompts.

Advancing into the Future of More Eco-Conscious Appliances

Samsung is not only dedicated to presenting a better home experience, but also committed to creating products that can help build a better future for the environment and society at large. With SmartThings Energy, it is easy to monitor and control the amount of energy consumed by connected Samsung appliances. In the near future, Samsung also plans to launch its new Samsung Rewards which will allow users to get stamps each day if they save a certain amount of energy using AI Energy mode. Accumulated stamps can be converted and used at Samsung.com, Samsung Galaxy store and other Samsung purchase platforms.

Moreover, to reduce the frequency of appliance replacements, Smart Forward assures Samsung Bespoke users with the latest technology and security, bringing peace of mind. Announced for the first time at the event, this service brings newest features and operating systems to all Bespoke appliances through regular software updates.

To make efforts more impactful, Samsung introduces collaborative efforts it has made to implement solutions resulting in tangible reductions of energy use and carbon emissions, while also making lives more convenient for users. Through partnership with utility companies like Southern Company and participation in development of residential communities like the ones at Brobyholm, Sweden, Samsung strives to enhance the impact of its energy efficient appliances and SmartThings to finally target the Net Zero Home potentially. Additionally, Samsung’s partnership with British Gas allows users to easily enjoy economic benefits of saving energy by linking SmartThings Energy’s Auto Demand Response feature with British Gas’s PeakSave rewards program.

As a leading company in the home appliance industry, Samsung revealed its goal to utilise next generation technologies for purposes beyond creating innovative products. The company plans to use engineering solutions that prolong product lifecycles, reduce the frequency of replacements, and contribute to resource conservation and recycling efforts. Some of the methods introduced in the press conference include: AI Hybrid Cooling, which incorporates the newly installed high-power ‘Peltier’ thermoelectric components in addition to the compressor resulting in improved cooling efficiency and performance, and the low-maintenance filters for air purifiers removing the need for filter purchases or replacements.

Samsung is also making sincere efforts to incorporate more eco-conscious practices when making Bespoke products – from the selection of raw materials to the design structure of each model. Samsung uses recycled resin in plastic parts in its appliances and aims to apply recycled resin to 50% of plastic components by 2030 and to all plastic components by 2050.

Product safety is also an important factor that Samsung prioritises, with the company striving strive to achieve and expand certifications to prove its product liability across all appliance categories, including reduced fire risk (RFR) certification for new products. This will assure that Bespoke appliances are designed to effectively prevent fire incidents caused by products.

This renewed collaboration means Samsung will continue to build awareness around its Bespoke Home appliance range through product placement and sponsorship idents throughout the programming that highlight its core technologies and home appliance features. The Sunday Brunch kitchen will continue to amplify key products including the Family Hub fridge freezer and Series 7 AI ovens and this year will also include the Samsung Frame TV, among various other products.

In addition, Samsung will sponsor a new recipe licence with Sunday Brunch co-host and cooking expert Simon Rimmer as well as being available on Samsung UK’s social channels.
