Since the start of the Olympic Games, the Interpreter feature in Galaxy devices has been opening up the City of Light and helping athletes, volunteers and visitors chat with each other.

“I travel a lot, and sometimes there is a language barrier,” said Team Samsung Galaxy member Wilma Anna Helena Murto (Athletics, Finland) who tested Interpreter when visiting Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Village Plaza alongside many other athletes. “This really makes a difference.”

“I can see how helpful the translation feature would be,” said Josefine Christoffersen, a visitor from Sweden who speaks Swedish and English. Since arriving on Saturday, she has enjoyed meeting people from all over the world at her first visit to the Olympic Games.

So far, Christoffersen has cheered on her favourite athletes while watching athletics, beach volleyball and handball. On Tuesday, she tried her hand at the Samsung Olympic Games Pin Master Challenge at Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Square Marigny.

Siqi Chen, a student from China, has been living in France for five years. She visited Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125 to check out the latest Galaxy AI innovations.

“Since moving to France, I’ve been travelling all around Europe and visiting lots of other countries,” said Chen who speaks Chinese, English and French. “Interpreter is very helpful and convenient in these moments — when I visit Spain, for example, I can speak Spanish using Galaxy AI!”

Originally from Martinique, he has been living in Paris for 12 years and working at the pop-up experience since it opened in early May.

“People have been impressed when I show them the cover screen,” said Goma. “Even if it’s hard for them to hear, they can read the translation on the screen which is so helpful. They don’t even have to be connected to the network. They immediately recognise the impact, and it’s one of the most popular features here at the pop-up experience.”

The benefits of Galaxy AI are making a difference for the thousands of volunteers who are helping ensure the Paris 2024 Olympics is a smooth and fun experience for all. Emmanuel Mantilla Jr. from the Philippines has been in Paris since July 25 to volunteer at the Olympic Games for the first time.

“My first few days here were a little overwhelming because even though I speak several languages, I don’t speak French,” said Mantilla Jr. who has been stationed at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. “People thought maybe I couldn’t help them.”

“But Interpreter has been so helpful — not only for communicating with visitors but also with my fellow volunteers. I’ve been using the feature on my Galaxy S24 Ultra with many of the French colleagues in my volunteer group, and we all love it,” he added.

“There are always a lot of tourists in Paris, particularly on the Champs-Elysees,” said Goma. “But there are even more people here for the Olympic Games. This is the perfect opportunity to showcase Galaxy AI’s live translation capabilities, especially for all the visitors who don’t speak French. Now, they can celebrate together — whether at the Olympic Games or in everyday life.”

A former Team Korea volleyball player, Yeon Koung Kim, Team GB Skateboarder Andy Macdonald, Australian Para-athlete Madison de Rozario, and UK contents creator and The Rapping Science Teacher, Matt Green are going to take part in this project as global ambassadors and to actively share content for Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People via social media.

The “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” project was developed by Samsung and the IOC to help Olympic and Paralympic fans around the world experience and engage with the Olympic Movement. The programme is especially focused on younger generations, with the new community designed around the goal of helping youth participants “solve, move and create in the spirit of the Olympic values.”

“Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” introduces three new community-oriented initiatives. Solve Challenge integrates sport and Olympism with Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow programme, a youth-focused social contribution program that empowers young people to design innovative solutions using sport and tech to address key social challenges aligned with the priorities of the IOC’s Olympism365. Move Challenge encourages fans of the Games around the globe to get up and walk more using Samsung’s smart mobile phone. Create Challenge lets participants get creative in an innovative digital artists’ community through Samsung’s smart device and S pen.

At the launch event, 10 teams that excelled in Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow programme were announced as “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” ambassadors. Throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, the ambassadors will showcase the solutions they’ve created to address social challenges and work to engage Olympic fans around the world. They will also collaborate with the IOC Young Leader — as well as diverse initiatives fostered by the IOC — to address solutions including the promotion of sustainable development.

During the “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” event, the ambassadors shared their Solve for Tomorrow projects designed to address real-world problems. A variety of innovative solutions were presented, ranging from help for people to overcome visual disabilities to new ways to promote worker safety.

“Samsung Solve for Tomorrow empowers high school students with the courage to change the world,” said Ngan Huu Kim Le, a member of the U.S. team that developed an insect-based environmental cleanup solution. “It’s an honour to take part and have a chance to present our solution to help build a brighter future for our planet here at Paris 2024 with prominent athletes from around the world.”

“I am impressed by the opportunities that “Samsung Solve for Tomorrow” has given to hundreds of thousands of young people to develop as future leaders,” said IOC President Thomas Bach. “They will be our innovators of tomorrow, and I look forward to seeing them tackle various challenges facing our world. We’re pleased to join with our Worldwide Partner Samsung to continue to work together to identify and support talented young people at the intersection of sport and technology through the “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” initiative.”

“This project — creating a program in which young people can directly participate and experience Olympic values — is a wonderful outcome from our long-standing collaboration with the IOC,” said YH Lee, President and Head of Global Marketing Office at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to support young people to take on bold and meaningful challenges toward a brighter future.”

The Olympic medal ceremony is one of the most emotional and memorable moments for athletes as they realise a lifelong dream. However, the event has traditionally been photographed by accredited media only — captured from a distance and not from the athlete’s own lens.

Not anymore. In the spirit of a ‘Games Wide Open’ at Paris 2024, Samsung is helping athletes create and share new, more personal memories of the celebration atop the podium with the Victory Selfie powered by Galaxy.

In an Olympic Games first, medalists at Paris 2024 have been documenting their ceremonies from their own perspective as they were handed the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition on the podium to take their Victory Selfie after receiving their Olympic medals. The selfies have been uploaded automatically and wirelessly to the Athlete365 portal so athletes can share their moments on a whole new level — perfectly aligning with Samsung’s belief that ‘Open always wins’ and that openness creates new perspectives and infinite possibilities.

“To be able to share the moment of achieving my dream of winning a medal with my fans, family and friends around the world — through my own perspective — was incredible,” said Team Samsung Galaxy member Rayssa Leal (Skateboarding, Brazil). “It not only amplified a moment I’ll never forget but also celebrated the camaraderie beyond the competition as my fellow medalists and I took the Victory Selfie together on the podium.”

Samsung Newsroom picked some of the best shots from the Paris 2024 medal ceremonies below. The new Victory Selfie program will continue throughout the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Who said an Olympic Opening Ceremony must happen inside a stadium? In a night of firsts, the Olympic Games Paris 2024 officially kicked off with a historic ceremony on the Seine River — and Samsung Electronics, a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, provided the groundbreaking innovation that made it so special.

To bring fans closer to the action than ever before, Samsung installed more than 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones on the 85 athlete boats taking part in the Opening Ceremony. The event was livestreamed through a private 5G network powered by Orange, the official mobile network provider for Paris 2024 in France).

Team Kenya athlete shares a selfie with fans with the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition.

Fans tuning into the broadcast were given a closer look at an already unique celebration of the Olympic spirit in the 2024 host city of Paris. Those who watched the Opening Ceremony could experience the event from the athletes’ point of view as they shared scenes from this memorable ceremony using their Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition smartphones.

Team Australia athlete shares a selfie with fans with the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition.

Samsung collaborated with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) to create a meaningful night for athletes and fans — requiring extensive planning with various Olympic partners for real-time footage streams, seamless 5G connectivity and other technology support.

The opening ceremony livestream is just one of several ways Samsung is sharing the excitement from Paris 2024 with the world. The sailing competition in Marseille and Victory Selfies will also bring fans closer to the Olympic Games. For a brand-new view of the sailing competition in Marseille, Samsung is installing Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones to the boats and on the athletes’ shoulders.
LONDON, U.K – June 18, 2024 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, today announced its plans alongside the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) to revolutionise the Paris 2024 broadcast experience for viewers and fans.

“In an increasingly connected society, Samsung Galaxy mobile technology has helped deepen and transform users’ relationships with the world, wherever they are. Having been a Worldwide Partner for nearly three decades, we know first-hand how important it is to create and enable the same meaningful connections at the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Stephanie Choi, EVP & Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “We’re honored to be working closely with the IOC and OBS to provide high quality footage that will be part of a series of firsts at Paris 2024 and bring fans at home and onsite even closer to the excitement.”

In about a month, the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place outside of a stadium for the first time ever. Paris 2024 will see 10,500 athletes float down the Seine River in designated boats for each national delegation, in what aims to be the most open and accessible opening ceremony in history. Departing from the Austerlitz bridge, the iconic parade will follow a six-kilometer route through the centre of Paris, passing some of the official Olympic Games venues before the ceremony’s grand finale at the Trocadéro.

Galaxy S24 Ultra Gives Viewers Front Row Seat to the Games

To bring fans at home closer to the action and provide an intimate glimpse of athlete’s reactions during this once-in-a-lifetime voyage, Samsung will install more than 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones at the bow and sides of each of the 85 athlete vessels at the opening ceremony. The high-quality HDR footage taken with the Galaxy S24 Ultra devices will be shared and streamed via a private 5G network powered by Orange, the official mobile network provider of Paris 2024 in France. Orange will install more than a dozen of 5G antennas along the Seine to create the first-ever 5G standalone network in France, as this pioneering collaboration is designed to ensure a seamless 5G connectivity and viewing experience for fans around the world.

Samsung will also deploy the same technology for the sailing competitions in Marseille by installing the Galaxy S24 Ultra on each competition boat, letting fans experience the thrill of the race alongside their favorite Olympians and allowing them to truly get in on the action.

This presented a whole new set of challenges and months of research, development and testing – in close collaboration with the OBS and Orange – to guarantee video quality and connectivity performance across various bodies of water and weather conditions, which can be really windy with huge waves or extremely hot and sunny. Samsung and its partners addressed these challenges by leveraging the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Optical image stabilisation (OIS) features, increasing transmission power, and installing relay towers on chase boat to ensure a seamless livestream experience for viewers.

“As host broadcaster of the Olympic Games, we’re incredibly excited about this partnership with Samsung which will allow a truly original perspective of Paris 2024, evolving the way in which fans will experience the Games,” said Yiannis Exarchos, Chief Executive Officer of OBS. “Samsung’s latest mobile innovation will allow millions of fans around the world to live and breathe the spirit, action and emotion of the Opening Ceremony and sailing competitions alongside their favorite athletes in real-time.”

Samsung’s Long-Running Contribution to the Games

This announcement marks the next stage of Samsung’s long-standing commitment, in close collaboration with the IOC, to drive digital transformation and deliver cutting-edge technology at the Games by opening up the latest mobile innovations to athletes, fans and communities alike. This originated with the first ‘Call Home’ program which allowed nearly 2,500 athletes to speak to their families back home for free in 1998, when access to mobile phones was limited. It continued with the Wireless Olympic Works (WOW) app, the first official Olympic information service on mobile. The WOW app was introduced to Olympic organisers via Samsung-supplied Palm OS phones at Athens 2004 and then was made available to the public at Vancouver 2010, providing fans with the latest Games-time updates straight to their mobile phones.

In addition to driving mobile innovation, Samsung has also contributed to how athletes, and staff, connect and communicate during the Games-time. Since Nagano 1998, Samsung has provided athletes and staff with a total of more than 120,000 mobile products.

Details of how Samsung will further leverage its technological capabilities to bring fans closer to athletes, in another Olympic first will be revealed in the coming weeks.

About Samsung’s Involvement in the Olympic Games

Samsung has been a Worldwide Olympic Partner since the Olympic Winter Games Nagano 1998. For over 25 years, athletes and fans have trusted Samsung’s transformative mobile technology to share the Olympic spirit globally and continue to shape the digital future of the Olympic Games for Paris 2024 and beyond. The company’s commitment to the Olympic Movement soon faces its fourth decade of partnership and extends through Los Angeles 2028. Samsung’s purposeful innovations in the wireless communications and computing equipment category, including equipment that features artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality and 5G will change the way the world experiences the Olympic Games.

About Samsung’s Involvement in the Paralympic Games

London, UK – 30 May 2024 – The Olympic Games Paris 2024 are set to be bigger than ever this year, particularly amongst young adults, with a whopping 54% planning to watch Paris 2024.

Adding new activities to this year’s games has inspired more than a third (39%) to be more adventurous with sports. In particular, breaking – or breakdancing – has caught the eye of a fifth of Brits who say this sport is on their TV agenda this summer, alongside surfing, sport climbing and skateboarding.

Whilst there is excitement to watch athletes on screen, 47% feel the UK lacks opportunities for them to try sports themselves.

With this in mind, Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner Samsung, and impressive newcomer to Olympic Games Paris 2024, Karam Singh, are encouraging the nation to try new sports.

Karam comments “Don’t be afraid of being open to new possibilities”, as he shares his top breaking moves and how to embrace them:

It’s all in the footwork – One of the most important categories in Breaking is footwork! Footwork is based around steps or patterns that are usually performed on all fours. Breaking starts with mastering the “0 position” – a low squat with your heels flat on the floor. And here’s the secret weapon – ditch the flat hands! Get comfy holding yourself up with just your fingertips, building strength and balance for footwork patterns such as Six Step, CCs, Hooks and Kick.

Top Rock –Ignite your inner breaker with ‘top rock’, the opening act of breakdancing. Unlike the floorwork, this is your chance to shine standing tall. Staying light on your feet is key, so let loose and let your character show. It’s not about what you do, it’s how you do it! Some killer moves to master are the cross step, Indian step and salsa step.

Power Moves – Ready to push the boundaries? It’s time to try out power moves. These are the wow-factor moves – head spins, backspins, flares, windmills and air flares – the ultimate crowd-pleasers. Conquer them by working on your core strength, ensuring you have solid basic freeze positions, good technique and most importantly being fearless. Fear is not real so just go for it!

To open up breaking and empower young people to get moving, Karam brought local dance communities from across the capital together for an exclusive breaking workshop on the popular St Katharine’s Way[1] near the iconic Tower Bridge, known for being a cultural hub of the capital.

The workshop saw Karam lead a showcase of live breaking demos and how to do them, all captured hands-free with the Flex Mode feature on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5.

“At Samsung, we believe in opening up new experiences and meaningful connections. We’re championing this in our Open Always Wins campaign as a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic partner, and are excited to use this as a platform to raise awareness of new sports such as breakdancing. By working with Karam to host an exciting community event in a thriving London hotspot, we’re empowering young people to be more open to trying new sports and defying limitations.” said Annika Bizon, Director of Marketing, Omnichannel & Head of Ireland – MX Division.

Joining Team Samsung Galaxy’s roster for Paris 2024, Karam is one of 25 athletes who will each embody the spirit of the ‘Open Always Wins’ campaign throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024. A movement to articulate Samsung’s belief that with an open mind, every new experience becomes a meaningful achievement that leads to new perspectives.

Whether you’re trying to perfect your footwork or framing your freezes, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip5’s form factor with its show-stopping, hands-free camera ensures breakers never miss a trick.
[1] Under the expert guidance of breakdancing professional Karam Singh, attendees learned the fundamentals of breakdancing moves in a safe and controlled environment. As with any physical activity, participation was at the participant’s own risk.

LONDON, UK – January 11, 2024 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, today announced its central message for the Olympic

LONDON, UK – January 11, 2024 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, today announced its central message for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, ‘Open always wins.’ The message articulates Samsung’s belief that with an open mind, every new experience becomes a meaningful achievement that opens up new perspectives and infinite possibilities. It will serve as the heart of Samsung’s Paris 2024 programme and will be brought to life in its various activations leading up to and during the Games, and through the remarkable athlete ambassadors of Team Samsung Galaxy, who were also announced today.

“Samsung has championed the Olympic spirit — and has been enabling meaningful connection — since its very first Olympic Games in 1988,” said Stephanie Choi, EVP & Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “For Paris 2024, Samsung’s latest innovation and technology will support the staging of the Games and will help deliver on its promise to be the most open Games ever. The brand’s ‘Open always wins’ message reflects this alignment of values and will be featured throughout Samsung’s Paris 2024 programming.”

Team Samsung Galaxy will serve as the primary voices for ‘Open always wins,’ and by sharing their journeys, they will demonstrate how Samsung is helping athletes and fans open up to new opportunities through its technologies. Each athlete on Team Samsung Galaxy, which includes British skateboarding star and longstanding brand ambassador Sky Brown, knows firsthand that an open mindset drives you to victory, in sport and beyond.

“Samsung has been elevating the Olympic and Paralympic Games experience — and supporting athletes — for nearly four decades,” said Tony Estanguet, president of Paris 2024. “As we look to create a ‘Games Wide Open,’ we are confident that Samsung’s deep-rooted belief in openness, and its innovative mobile technology, will play a central role at Paris 2024. Together, we will proudly engage, inspire, and enhance the Olympic and Paralympic Games for athletes and fans alike.”

Team Samsung Galaxy for Paris 2024

For Paris 2024, Team Samsung Galaxy is made up of over 25 Olympians and Paralympians — including British skateboarder Sky Brown, Spanish badminton champion Carolina Marin, French skateboarding hero Aurélien Giraud, American B-girl[1] Grace “Sunny” Choi, German Para sprinter Johannes Floors, and South Korean football icon Son Heung-min — with more to be named. It features several athletes from some of the Games’ newest sports — skateboarding, surfing, and breaking — which, like Samsung, share core values of open-mindedness and self-expression.

“We are proud to support this incredible team of athletes and welcome them to the Samsung family,” added Stephanie Choi. “Not only are they inspiring humans on and off the field of play, but they’re also making an impact on their communities and on the next generation. Together with Team Samsung Galaxy, we are thrilled to encourage fans around the world to open up to new possibilities in their everyday lives.”

The team also includes 15-year-old skateboarder Rayssa Leal, who became the youngest Brazilian ever to participate in the Olympic Games when she won silver at Tokyo 2020; Yeri Kim, the “limitless” South Korean B-girl who overcame a hearing impairment to rise to the top of her sport; Jagger Eaton (U.S.), who champions skateboarding’s culture of open-mindedness; surfers Johanne Defay (France), John John Florence (U.S.) and Jack Robinson (Australia), who are not only fierce competitors on the waves, but also fierce ocean and climate advocates; and Paralympians Madison de Rozario (Australia) and Ugo Didier (France) who use their platforms to drive accessibility and inclusivity in sport and society.

Madison de Rozario said: “Samsung’s been a part of the Paralympics for so long, and one of the highest privileges of being a Paralympian is getting to partner with a brand that feels so strongly about the Paralympic movement. Tech is playing an enormous role right now, particularly in Paralympic and women’s sports. Being able to engage with fans directly has progressed the movement far quicker than anything else.”

Johanne Defay said: “I am super happy to be part of Team Samsung Galaxy. ‘Open always wins’ reminds me of the open-mindedness one can acquire through competition – sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, which challenges many aspects of ourselves. We ponder a lot on how we can evolve, and I think that’s a form of open-mindedness.”

Jagger Eaton said: “To be a part of Team Samsung Galaxy means the world to me. From somebody who approaches skateboarding in a diverse way, to be a part of a brand that does the same is amazing. ‘Open always wins,’ to me, means inclusion of everybody. I think that the Olympic Games is not only an amazing time for everybody to get together and cheer for their country, but an opportunity to do what I love on the world stage. For me, I always stay open in skateboarding because I believe it’s one of the most open-minded activities that you can do.”

More information on how ‘Open always wins’ will come to life, the many ways Samsung will enhance the Olympic and Paralympic Games experience at Paris 2024, and the additional athletes of Team Samsung Galaxy, will be announced as the Road to the Games continues. Team Samsung Galaxy’s full roster has been included below.
