London – Friday, December 6, 2024: As Christmas draws closer, new research from Samsung found that leftovers are a consistent headache for Christmas cooks, keeping our fridges jam-packed throughout the festive season, with one in four (80%) of households admitting to being left with surplus supplies after the main Christmas dinner or lunch.

Turkey was the main offender, with one in four households having leftovers, followed by the humble potato and the much-maligned Brussel sprout. Gravy, carrots, and chocolates tie at 15%, while indulgent treats like Christmas cake (14%) and cheese (13%) also make the list.

The top ten ingredients most commonly leftover:

Turkey (25%)

Potatoes (20%)

Brussel sprouts (16%)

Gravy (15%)

Carrots (15%)

Chocolates (15%)

Christmas Cake (14%)

Stuffing (14%)

From Surplus to Scrumptious: How Samsung Food Transforms Christmas Leftovers

To solve Christmas cooking challenges, Samsung’s innovative home appliances can take the stress out of every Christmas meal, whether cooking fresh or with leftovers, leaving hosts to enjoy the day with family and friends. From smart appliances like Samsung’s Dual Cook oven that allows different dishes to be cooked at different temperatures or for different lengths of time, through to innovative AI-powered solutions that automates cooking decisions, Christmas can be prepped on autopilot.

Dan Barfield, Director of Digital Appliances at Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland, said: “If you are hosting at Christmas it can often feel like a never-ending task, with preparation for the main Christmas dinner starting days, if not weeks, beforehand. Every year we face the same challenges around the big day – striving to make the dishes we share perfect and on time, for friends and family.

“That’s why our latest features focus on how we can make our customers’ lives easier. Whether it’s leftover menu inspiration, checking the oven whilst you watch the Christmas movie, or cooking two different dishes at different temperatures in the same oven, our innovative features can take the stress out of any cooking endeavour. It’s just like having your very own sous chef!”

Your own personal sous chef with AI Pro Cooking: Available on the latest Samsung models, it optimises cooking settings, recommends mode, temperature, and time for recognised dishes, and allows real-time monitoring via the SmartThings App’s View Inside feature.

Dual Cook Steam Oven turns two cooking tasks into one: With two independent cooking zones, it lets you cook multiple dishes at different temperatures without flavour transfer, ideal for turkey and dessert prep. Energy-efficient features reduce usage by over 25% and preheat 52% faster[1], saving time and streamlining holiday cooking.

Samsung fridges deliver maximum flexibility when space is at a premium: When it comes to keeping a stocked-up fridge fresh, Samsung fridges are perfect for busy kitchens at Christmas, combining innovative features to maximise freshness and storage. Humidity Fresh crisper drawers preserve fruits and vegetables with adjustable settings, while Space Max technology offers increased capacity without increasing external size[2]. Twin Cooling Plus ensures separate cooling for fridge and freezer, preventing flavour crossover, while Smart Conversion lets you switch the freezer to fridge mode—ideal for hosting large groups during the festive season. Select models also feature AI Vision Inside, an internal camera[3] that can identify certain fresh food items[4] when put in or taken out and allows you to manage a food list, helping to reduce waste.

The Samsung Food app provides effortless menu inspiration – an AI-powered, personalised food and recipe platform available across multiple devices including your phone, tablet and TV and on Android or iOS – can help Christmas cooks plan each meal, compile ingredient lists, compare prices for shopping across popular supermarkets, and even adapt recipes to cater for different dietary requirements.

London, UK – 23rd March 2023 – New research by Samsung Electronics UK Ltd. suggests grey is the new magnolia, with a third (30 percent) of the nation saying they would be more likely to buy a home if the kitchen – the most important room, according to nearly four in ten (37 percent) – and living rooms were painted “light grey”.

Houses with a dark blue or navy front door are the most appealing to potential buyers (27 percent), according to the study of 2,000 UK adults. The research also revealed the colours to avoid if you want to sell your house, with pink, purple and burgundy topping the list. Overall, 79 percent of those surveyed insist that the colour of a room can instantly affect mood.

The study also revealed a list of house-hunting ‘turn ons’, with the bedrooms being a good size coming top of the list with 63 percent of the vote. A large kitchen (56 percent), sizeable garden (56 percent), a private drive (49 percent), built in kitchen appliances (28 percent), and a smart front door (20 percent) also featured high on the list of things we look for in a new home. The colour of the outside of the home (17 percent) and the rooms inside (16 percent) also featured in the list.

In addition, close to two thirds (63 percent) admit that they love when a colour scheme runs through the entire house with home appliances that match, such as Samsung’s Bespoke Range which come in a range of colours to suit all tastes.

And when it comes to what puts us off a property, unreliable boilers and central heating systems (50 percent), a lack of natural light (48 percent), no double glazing (47 percent), and an old kitchen that would need updating (30 percent) all topped of the list.

While 27 percent said they wouldn’t consider a property with a living room that wasn’t big enough for their TV, and 15 percent said a house painted in colours they disliked would put them off it instantly.

Dan Harvie, VP, Head of Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics (UK) Ltd., said: “Colour is clearly a huge factor for the nation when it comes to buying a house and can affect purchasing decisions. With six in ten wanting appliances that fit with the colour scheme of their property, it highlights the need for customisable and personalised products. There are now a variety of stylish and unique products on the market that allow you to do just this, offering individuals the chance to choose options that suit their own personal style and truly complement their home colour choices.

“For example, Samsung’s Bespoke Range is designed to meet consumers needs in line with their ever-evolving lifestyle and personal preferences. The range allows them to match their appliances to their space, with 14 different colours[1] to make their home their own. Samsung Bespoke products include refrigerators, ovens, laundry appliances and vacuums.”

And if that’s not enough, Samsung’s SmartThings app gives you more control over your smart devices by connecting, automating, and managing everything in one easy-to-use app. From a variety of versatile configurations to create your perfect refrigerator to stylish vacuums that are too good to be locked away, Samsung has you covered – keeping products relevant for longer.

The study found that 79 percent of the nation believes that the colour of a room affects their mood, with a red room the most likely to make us feel angry (29 percent), a blue room most likely to make us feel cold (24 percent), a yellow room most likely to make us feel happy (20 percent), and a green room most likely to make us feel calm (19 percent).

In addition, the study found that, so important is colour to our buying decisions, that 33 percent of the nation claim they’d possibly walk away from a beautiful home if it were painted in colours we disliked – while 13 percent said they’d definitely walk away.

And 88 percent of the nation said the smell of a property could either definitely or probably impact whether they wanted to move in. Get a bun in the oven if you want to encourage a viewer to buy your home, as the smell of freshly baked bread was the most appealing fragrance for a house viewing, according to 41 percent of those polled. Fresh flowers (40 percent), vanilla candles (33 percent), freshly made coffee (33 percent) and freshly washed laundry (25 percent) are all also popular smells for a house viewing.

Samsung has partnered with TV personality and property expert Phil Spencer for expert advice when it comes to colour in the home. He said: “Colour is hugely important and influential in the home; it can totally transform the look and feel of a room and home. It is just as much about how somewhere can make you ‘feel’ as much as how large, or how practical a space can be – this is especially important when putting your home up for sale and attempting to entice buyers, whilst trying to achieve the best price possible.”

Overall, 78 percent of those polled said they instantly knew if they wanted to move into a new property as soon as they went inside.

Notes to Editor: The study of 2000 UK-based adults was commissioned by Samsung Electronics and conducted by Perspectus Global in March 2023.

[1] Refrigeration colours include, Glass: Clean Black, Clean White, Satin Beige, Satin Sky Blue, Glam Navy, Glam Peach and Glam Lavender.

Frankfurt, Germany – February 23, 2023 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a pioneer for connected device experiences, hosts the first European Samsung Summit, showcasing its 2023 product line-ups in television and audio, Smart Home and digital appliance.

“At Samsung, we innovate to create connected experiences that help our customers to save energy and live more convenient lifestyles. From industry-leading Neo QLED and OLED TVs, to washing machines that use AI to choose the amount of time, detergent and water actually needed, our products are alive and connected through SmartThings,” said Benjamin Braun, Samsung Europe’s Chief Marketing Officer. “At Samsung Summit, we are celebrating the features of our new products, and how they can help customers to live a calm and connected lifestyle.”

Samsung pioneers technology that meets the needs of the modern hybrid world and an ever-growing demand for connected device experiences, with the average European household containing 8-10 connected devices. The new cutting-edge TV and Sound Device innovations offer consumers connected features with their most interactive experience yet, as do its new digital appliances that marry connectivity with improved efficiency and beautiful design.

A smarter ecosystem of entertainment

Built in IoT Hub allows an enhanced connectivity and compatibility on Samsung’s new Neo QLED 4K and 8K TVs, meaning customers no longer need to buy an additional dongle on most of their devices.[1] The 12-bit processing and AI upscaling enables features such as Shape Adaptive Light Control and Real Depth Enhancer Pro[2], combined with Auto HDR remastering, generate a brighter and more lifelike picture, bringing you closer to your content than ever before. Likewise, the new 77-inch S95C OLED model, which also ranges in 55-inch and 65inch, features Quantum Dot technology and Neural Quantum Processors to simultaneously improve brightness and colour representation. Samsung’s new Lifestyle TV products and features elevate the user’s personalised experience, offering a customisable product and viewing experience both indoors with The Frame, The Serif, and Sero, and outdoors, with The Terrace. The Frame’s popular Samsung Art Store layout will be reorganised early this year to provide a more dynamic home page that allows users to preview artworks of any size at a glance, mimicking the browsing experience of visiting real-life art galleries and museums. All of Samsung’s new 2023 TV line-up are connected by the Samsung SmartThings app.

A premium and connected screen experience would only be complete with ultra-immersive audio. Samsung TVs are integrated with Dolby Atmos[3]and Samsung Object Tracking Sound (OTS)[4], allowing movies, sport or gaming sounds to pan to speakers to allow superior atmospheric surround sound. Samsung’s Smart range supports Q-Symphony when paired with a Q-Series or S-Series Samsung Soundbar, allowing powerful audio from both TV and Soundbar speakers to enhance the viewing experience for something truly cinematic. By pairing Samsung TV’s with Samsung Soundbars, like the new HW-Q990C or the innovative Ultra-Slim HW-S801, these devices will offer great entertainment experiences whether looking for the ultimate in cinematic sound or sleek design combined with powerful audio.

Joining this impressive display portfolio are monitors for avid gamers. Samsung announced its new offerings for Odyssey, ViewFinity and Smart Monitor at CES 2023. Delivering unmatched image quality and a range of innovative features for people looking to work, play and live through their monitor display, Samsung Summit will display premium gaming monitors such as the 43” Odyssey Neo G7, Odyssey Ark 55” and Samsung’s latest gaming TV, the OLED 77”. Like Samsung’s 2023 Smart TV range, these all easily connect to Samsung Gaming Hub[5], the all-in-one game streaming platform.

Connected, customisable and smarter digital appliances

Services like SmartThings Energy are setting new standards for product efficiency; Samsung’s newest home appliances helps users reduce energy usage, saving money. SmartThings Energy automatically detects the amount of energy that connected Samsung devices consume, while activating AI Energy Mode, which once users opt in, ensures that their Samsung devices automatically run at optimal energy levels, so they don’t use more than they need to. It can reduce power consumption on compatible appliances by up to 15% for refrigerators[6] and up to 70% for washing machines.[7] In addition to that, Samsung’s Less Microfiber Cycle is a wash cycle that significantly reduces micro plastic release by up to 54%.[8] These latest advancements make it easier for consumers to reduce their impact on the environment.

Combining energy saving potential with powerful AI, seamless connectivity, and customised but premium designs, Samsung’s expanded Bespoke line-up will lead the way for consumers to enjoy more personalised and environmentally conscious lifestyles. Samsung’s 2023 Series 7 Bespoke AI Oven range offers consumers the chance to view their food cooking via a built in webcam that can be viewed on the SmartThings app, making it a fun and easy way to check on your meal. And when it comes to keeping the home clean, Samsung’s Bespoke Jet makes vacuuming a breeze with powerful performance from start to finish.

[1] SmartThings with built-in IOT Hub is supported on all models, but a dongle is required on CU7100, CU8000 & CU8500 models.
