A Virtual Summer Internship at Samsung

by Lauren Schwartzbard, Video Production Intern, Samsung Electronics America, Intern Class of 2020

8/20/2020

On Monday, June 15th, 56 interns from a variety of universities started their summer internships with Samsung Electronics America.

With many internships canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I know I speak on behalf of my colleagues when I say we were all grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow this summer. And it was an incredible eight weeks at Samsung!

Personally, I wasn’t sure what to expect coming into my internship, but every day was unique and rewarding. The program spanned two months and focused on impactful individual and group projects with consistent feedback. Samsung truly wanted to gain perspective from the interns and potentially implement our ideas in the business.

As a video production intern on the Corporate Communications team, I led a variety of video recording and editing projects. I worked on an internal video blog called Intern Insiders, which captured life as an intern through the stories and experiences of my colleagues, created LinkedIn videos that spotlighted #LifeatSamsung from an intern’s perspective and developed a leadership video for Samsung’s new hire orientation program.

What stands out to me upon reflecting on the summer is not what we did for Samsung, but what Samsung did for us. The University Relations team poured in time and energy to fill our days with more than just projects, by crafting worthwhile experiences. We had Lunch n’ Learns almost every Friday, workshops geared toward growing as leaders along with professional development, and several social events to let us interns bond with each other even in a remote environment. We even were able to promote Samsung’s value of co-prosperity through a Virtual Day of Service, where we were able to aid in humanitarian causes and help K-12 students, all without leaving our homes.

Now that the Samsung Summer Internship Program has come to an end for 56 bright-eyed and enthusiastic future leaders, we’re going take what we’ve learned and not only be thankful for it, but apply it to our next adventure!
