Samsung Electronics America Applauds New York State as First in the U.S. to Launch Retail Consumer Rebates for Appliances under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)

New Yorkers will be able to save up to $840 on Samsung’s innovative ENERGY STAR® home appliances

11/21/2024

Samsung Electronics America, a global leader in innovative consumer electronics technology, and an ENERGY STAR® Award leader, today applauds New York as the first state in the United States to launch retail consumer rebates for appliances under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). With this action, New York will be the first to make the IRA’s Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate (HEAR) program accessible to consumers through upfront rebates at participating retail partners and through direct-to-consumer options. Samsung is the first company in New York to offer up-front discounts to consumers statewide through the state’s IRA HEAR program.

As part of the IRA HEAR rebate program, consumers will now be able to save up to $840 on Samsung’s innovative ENERGY STAR products, including laundry appliances like heat pump dryers and all-in-one combo washers + heat pump dryers. Samsung is committed to its award-winning, energy-efficient portfolio that can help families save energy and money, while helping build a more sustainable future.

“Samsung Electronics America is grateful for the partnership and leadership of the White House, Department of Energy, New York State, our retailer partners, and environmental non-profit leaders to make these critical rebates under the Inflation Reduction Act a reality for New Yorkers,” said Mark Lippert, Executive Vice President and Head of North American Public Affairs at Samsung Electronics America. “At Samsung, we are committed to empowering consumer choice and proud of the role we play through our energy-efficient portfolio, in helping families save energy, time, and money. This is just the beginning of our rebates journey in New York and across the U.S., and we look forward to working with our partners to expand these retail rebates to more products and in more states across the country.”

This historic development is the result of years of cross-sector collaboration between appliance manufacturers, retail partners, environmental non-profit advocates, and local, state, and federal officials to deliver tangible results for New Yorkers seeking affordable ways to reduce their energy footprint and costs. The IRA provides rebates and tax credits to households across America, among other provisions.

Doreen M. Harris, President and CEO, NYSERDA said, “It is with the support of partners, like Samsung Electronics America, that New York is leading the way to provide direct retail point-of-sale appliance rebates that support an affordable clean energy transition. Through these critical public-private partnerships, we are creating a path for low- to moderate-income New Yorkers to save energy and benefit from healthier, more comfortable living spaces.”

The HEAR program – part of the IRA – provides American households in participating states with rebates covering 50-100% of the cost of certain energy-efficient home upgrades and appliances, encouraging broader adoption of sustainable appliances. Depending on household income, consumers are eligible for the HEAR rebates for several appliances and home upgrades. Samsung offers four ENERGY STAR-certified products that will be eligible for this initial retail launch, including the new all-in-one Bespoke AI Laundry Combo and three Electric Ventless Heat Pump Dryers, which all help consumers reduce their energy consumption and maintain high standards of quality and convenience in their homes.  The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, which is a washer and a heat pump dryer, is the fastest and largest capacity product of its kind in the market and provides both washing and drying capabilities, thereby saving space and adding convenience for consumers.  According to EPA ENERGY STAR, heat pump dryers are 28% more energy efficient than standard dryers.

This milestone is just the beginning— New York will continue to expand the range of energy-efficient products eligible for rebates in 2025 to include ENERGY STAR induction cooking products, an area where Samsung also offers cutting-edge and innovative energy-efficient solutions. Samsung remains committed to collaborating with industry partners, retailers, government officials, non-profit leaders, and agencies across the country to ensure consumers have convenient access to affordable, energy-efficient products.

Samsung is a longstanding ENERGY STAR leader with more than 600 ENERGY STAR-certified products and 27 awards from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including being honored with the 2024 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award. Samsung is the only company to be recognized with two Sustained Excellence Awards in 2024. By taking bold action today through its innovative technology, Samsung remains committed to its leadership and paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable tomorrow.
