Enhancing Sensory Experiences in Retail at NRF 2023

2/9/2023

Retail touches so many aspects of our lives – from purchasing essentials for the home to finding the perfect gift for a loved one. As retailers experience upticks in their brick and mortar sales, they will need to deliver more memorable experiences for shoppers in-stores to sustain this growth.

Last month, thousands of retail professionals convened in New York for the National Retail Federation (NRF) 2023 conference to learn about the ways they can uplevel customer experiences in innovative ways. If you were unable to make it, read on to learn the key highlights from Retail’s Big Show.

Delivering Experiences that Meet More than the Eye

Consumer expectations continue to evolve, prompting retailers of all sizes to dramatically transform their stores to meet these growing demands. Samsung reimagined the state of retail in its booth at NRF by featuring an array of brands, including Duck Donuts, The Honest Worm and Beach People Studio, all of which demonstrated how they are using display technologies to deliver immersive and sensory experiences through sight, sound and smell.

From integrating solutions like HARMAN and Blueforce Development that trigger the scent of maple glaze donuts at the Duck Donuts counter to the sound of clucking chickens when walking past the Honest Worm showcase, Samsung’s booth enabled NRF attendees to understand how sensory content can enhance a customer’s experience whether they’re visiting a restaurant, boutique or department store.

Analyzing Customer Insights to Make In-Store Interactions More Impactful

E-commerce retailers often glean insights about a customer’s buying habits through data and use this information to tailor experiences for online shoppers. NRF attendees had the chance to see firsthand how retailers can replicate this process for in-store shoppers. When using Samsung displays, retailers can easily leverage partner platforms that can assess foot traffic interactions and deliver real-time insights to retail employees. As a result, brands can better understand customer purchase behaviors and ultimately adjust store floor plans to increase sales. In addition, Sprinklr, the unified customer experience management (Unified-CXM) platform for modern enterprises, enables retailers to see customer-generated social media content and can ultimately use these insights to connect buyer journeys.

Gone are the days when retailers are left wondering what is resonating with their in-store customers and how they can create more seamless experiences. Rather, retailers are now empowered to create operational efficiencies, drive revenue and develop deep connections.

Revolutionizing Retail Experiences Today and Beyond

The comeback of brick and mortar stores isn’t a mere concept – it’s happening before our eyes and Samsung’s display technologies are equipped to help retailers deliver greater customer experiences, optimize efficiency and scale. In fact, at NRF, Samsung unveiled its new Kiosk Windows 10 IoT Enterprise edition, an innovative and secure self-service display solution known for its ready-to-use capabilities and simple deployment that combines a touch display with a speaker, printer, scanner and payment solution all in a sleek new design. Attendees caught a glimpse of how retailers can complete seamless transactions and streamline backend operations through its automated order capabilities.

Looking ahead to the future, many retailers will be sweetening the deal for customers this year, including Duck Donuts, which plans to deploy Samsung Kiosks in up to 30 of its locally-owned and operated franchise shops across the United States. This is also the case for small businesses like Beach People Studio, which is installing cutting-edge Samsung technologies, including the Kiosk, in its newest retail location in Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., set to open this spring. In a time where meaningful connections matter more than ever, retailers are gearing up to serve their customers an experience that transcends their merchandise – and for many, it starts with Samsung Display.
