You may recall having heard about the Evolution Kit for Samsung Smart TV that was announced at CES 2013 in Las Vegas. You may also be aware that the 2013 Evolution Kit will be launched soon in Korea. Then again, busy people have busy lives, and it’s possible that you missed the news of one of the most exciting Smart TV innovations yet. So, for those who have not yet been introduced to this advanced TV kit, let’s bring you up to speed. Samsung’s Evolution Kit is the most innovative solution for optimizing your Smart TV experience, allowing upgrades to the TV’s features without the need to make the investment in a new TV. Users can enjoy the latest Samsung Smart TV by simply adding the Evolution Kit to their TVs, making their Samsung Smart TV into an Evolutionary TV.

Now the TV with the 2012 Smart Hub will change into a TV with the 2013 Smart Hub!

As a refresher, the picture above is the 2012 Smart Hub. As you can see, there is only one panel with five categories, Samsung Apps, Social TV, Family Story, Fitness, and Kids.

However, with the Evolution Kit installed on your Smart TV, the user interface changes into the new 2013 Smart Hub, which consists of five panels, ON TV, APPS, MOVIES & TV SHOWS, SOCIAL, and PHOTOS, CLIPS & MUSIC. The five categories from 2012 have expanded and been diversified in the 2013 Smart Hub, allowing for greater visibility of options and choices.

The changes don’t end with the five panels either – the TV itself has become much easier to use with ever-evolving functions of the Evolution Kit, motion control, voice control, and S Recommendation and faster with the upgraded quad-core processor.

Smart Interaction

With the Evolution Kit installed, your control over your Smart TV has never been greater. To show what we mean, let’s look at the smart interactive features briefly. The Motion Control feature allows you to control your TV using simple hand gestures, while the Voice Control feature lets you command your TV with just your voice.

Motion Control

Wonder how to control your TV just by using your two bare hands? Then let’s give it a shot! Click on “Go to Experience”.

The image below will appear on your screen. Click on ‘Gesture Mode’ to try out the motions with your hands.

The Motion Control consists of Motion Activation, Volume & Channel Control, Smart Hub Explore, Focus Movement, Photo Control, and Flip & Share. Let’s check out these features one by one.

Just by waving your hands, you can activate your TV.

Changing the channels and volume is also a cinch. By simply moving your hands or tracker to the up and down arrows for channels and plus and minus signs for volume, you can “grab” the screen and experience complete control.

Feel like something different? Simply swipe your hand to the left or right to move the screen.

You can also adjust the focus by moving your hands or the tracker.

Too small? Use both hands to zoom in and out on images. Not the right orientation? Change it to landscape or portrait on the 2013 Smart Hub.

You can also share your pictures and rotate the TV image by flipping your hands with the ‘Flip & Share’ feature.

If you are not sure of the motions, click on the “TV Gesture Book,” which is on the very first page of the Motion Control experience. But trust us, these gestures will become second nature to you quickly, and you’ll no longer have to wonder where the remote control has gotten to!

Voice Control

In addition to gestures, you can control the TV with the power of your voice. Quick note though – you won’t actually be able to check out the voice control on the microsite, but you will be able to see how it works if you were to install the Evolution Kit.

Just by saying “Hi TV,” the TV will turn on.

Change the volume and channel simply by saying the number of the volume and channel you would like to hear and watch.

The magic words “Smart Hub” will bring you back in no time.

S Recommendation with Voice Interaction

Instead of wasting time endlessly surfing through channels, you can discover what you want to watch just by asking your TV “Are there any shows worth watching today?” Your TV will respond to your request with a list of viewing options based on your previous viewing preferences. The S Recommendation will get better and better as it learns what you like to spend your time watching.
