Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a Worldwide Mobile and Computing Equipment Partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), announced the official

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a Worldwide Mobile and Computing Equipment Partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), announced the official selection of 10 global Solve for Tomorrow Ambassador teams as part of its ongoing corporate citizenship initiatives.

The announcement was made in Milan, where the ambassador program announcement is being held in conjunction with the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. The three-day program runs from Feb. 8–10 and includes an appointment ceremony, a solution exhibition and networking activities.

Solve for Tomorrow is Samsung’s global problem-solving platform that supports young people in developing innovative STEM-based solutions to address local and global challenges. This year’s global ambassadors were selected from winning teams of Solve for Tomorrow regional competitions around the world, with the final selection being made through a joint evaluation by Samsung and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) based on the innovation, scalability and social impact of each solution. The 10 selected teams are divided into two focus areas — Sport & Tech, and Accessibility & Environment — with five teams chosen in each category.

As part of the Ambassador program, each selected team will receive funding, along with up to two years of continued support from Samsung to help transform their prototypes into commercially viable products. Five teams in the Sport & Tech category will be jointly supported by Samsung and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

During the ceremony, two Solve for Tomorrow alumni — Danielle Yang, a Samsung Solve For Tomorrow Ambassador in Sport & Tech, and Simon Cénet of Team Liova from France — shared personal stories and insights on youth innovation and the real-world impact of their projects.

Yang, who has a hearing disability herself, explained her motivation for participating in the program, stating, “I joined Samsung Solve for Tomorrow to address the challenges I experienced in my daily life.” She added, “With the support of Samsung Electronics and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), I am truly honored and delighted to have the opportunity to share my idea with the world, even on the Olympic stage.”

“Through Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, I gained the confidence that my idea can create positive change in society,” said İrem Erden, an Ambassador from Türkiye who won a regional competition with OilSorb, a marine oil spill response solution that utilises reusable wool-based oil absorption pads and drones. “As a selected ambassador, I will strive to inspire more generations.”

Sustainable Innovation in Sport & Tech

Held under the theme “Sport & Tech,” the aim of Samsung’s 2026 Ambassador program is to empower youth to drive sustainable innovation through the intersection of sports, technology and leadership. The official appointment ceremony took place at Samsung House in Milan and was attended by approximately 80 global stakeholders, including IOC President Kirsty Coventry; Jae Youl Kim, IOC Executive Board Member and President of Samsung Global Research; Olympism 365 Commission Chair Auvita Rapilla; Olympism 365 Commission Member Nawal El Moutawakel; Won-Jin Lee, President and Head of Global Marketing at Samsung Electronics; and Simon Sung, President and CEO Samsung Electronics Europe.

Commitment moment in the appointment ceremony underscored the shared commitment of Samsung and the IOC to jointly nurturing future talent and empowering young people to help shape a better world. This commitment was brought to life through a stage performance in which the composite logos of both organisations were brought together by unfolding and overlapping the Galaxy Z TriFold, completing the visual composition. The act of opening the Galaxy Z TriFold symbolically represented the expansion of ideas and potential, as well as the shared belief of Samsung and the IOC in opening new possibilities as young people step forward to lead the future.

“The projects are truly inspiring: full of creativity, imagination, and passion to make a real difference. You’re using technology to shape a future that is more inclusive, more sustainable, healthier and more active,” said IOC President Coventry. “I am especially excited to see the first-ever Sport & Tech winners — combining sport, technology, and problem-solving in ways that can truly change lives.”

“Through Solve for Tomorrow and our collaboration with the IOC, we are creating environments where young people can discover their strengths, express their ideas, and contribute meaningfully to society,” said Global Marketing Head Lee. “We are not only supporting innovation but also nurturing future leaders who will carry forward the values of excellence, respect, friendship — and creativity.”

Solution Exhibition and Innovation Workshop

On Feb. 9, the ambassador teams will showcase the solutions they developed at Smart City Lab in Milan and attend an innovation-themed workshop led by the IOC’s Olympism365 Innovation Hub that will equip the ambassadors with the skills to be an innovator of sustainable development in the world of sports. The exhibition will be attended by representatives from the IOC, the Milano Cortina 2026 Organising Committee and various Italian government agencies.

On Feb. 10, the ambassadors will take part in a series of on-site programs and official activities, as well as a visit to the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Village. Through these experiences, Samsung is supporting the ambassadors in deepening their understanding of sports, technology and the meaning of the Olympic Games and the Olympic spirit.

We have said farewell to 2025 and as we look ahead and welcome a new year, I am immensely proud of what our teams across Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) have achieved together so far. To Samsung, the SEAO region is more than a collection of markets; it is a strategic hub of innovation, defined by dynamic growth, cultural diversity, and rapid digital adoption. While commercial targets continued to be important last year, we were also focused on anchoring Samsung as a genuine, long-term partner in SEAO’s development.

To strengthen the fundamentals that we established in 2025, I would like to share three core strategic pillars that will continue to anchor our growth path in 2026: delivering breakthrough innovations, empowering the next generation, and driving transformation for our customers; all underpinned by our commitment to become a truly AI-driven company.

Delivering Breakthrough Innovation Through an AI-Driven Future

At Samsung, we believe AI has fundamentally changed how we operate, innovate, and serve our customers. We have embraced a bold vision to be an AI-driven company and are already weaving AI meaningfully into our R&D product development, operations and user experience.

We first introduced Galaxy AI[1] to the world back in 2024 and we reinforced our AI leadership in 2025 as we delivered an even broader vision of living with AI. In addition to democratisation, we are driving a new era of multi-modal intelligence. This means ensuring that our hardware and software evolve together, creating devices that do not just process commands, but function as intuitive companions.

At CES 2026, we announced our efforts to create a more unified and personal experience across mobile, visual display, home appliances, and services with our “Companion to AI Living” Vision.

What excited audiences at CES 2026 was how Samsung’s displays, such as the 130-inch Micro RGB, are merging hardware excellence and visual intelligence to create a true entertainment companion for your homes. For instance, Samsung’s Vision AI Companion (VAC) uses AI technology to recommend what to watch and even what music to listen to.

Lastly, we introduced our long-term vision for intelligent care driven by Samsung’s integrated device ecosystem. I am truly excited about how we can redefine care from a reactive need to proactive opportunity. We will strive to promote healthier lives by delivering helpful features across AI, phones, appliances, wearables and other connected devices.

Empowering the Next Generation

What also continues to excite me is that the next generation in SEAO will not just be users of technology; they will be creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs who shape how these applications of AI serve their communities.

I believe that technology should serve as a bridge that enables everyone, regardless of background, to connect, create, and thrive. To fully unlock this potential, we have directed our corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts towards cultivating and investing in our youth, nurturing the next generation of talent.

Our flagship Solve for Tomorrow (SFT) program empowers young people to drive meaningful change through technology and innovation. In 2025, participation grew by 40% from 2024, with a total of more than 16,900 youth across the region developing solutions to address challenges in their communities. This growth highlights young people’s readiness to apply technology in practical and meaningful ways when given the tools and opportunities.

Last year, the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) actively bridged the regional skills gap by providing advanced information and communications technology (ICT), coding, and AI education across multiple SEAO markets. This approach mirrors our internal capability-building methodology: just as we train our employees through a structured GenAI curriculum, SIC provides youth with a similar roadmap for progression, enabling them to build foundational AI capabilities and progress to working with more complex applications.

These initiatives are more than CSR programs, but strategic investments we are making to contribute and build up the talent pipeline for our region’s AI-driven digital economy.

2026 is set to be a year where we build on this strong momentum with our CSR programs, as we aim to do even more with governments, corporations, schools, NGOs and community partners.

Driving Ecosystem Transformation

Finally, the foundation of a hyper-connected world fueled by AI agents must be trust. At Samsung, security and privacy are at the heart of our strategy. This principle is increasingly critical as we enter an era of Agentic AI, where intelligent systems do not just respond to commands but anticipate needs on users’ behalf. The power of our “One Samsung” ecosystem ensures that intelligence extends seamlessly from mobile to the entire connected home via SmartThings[2], protected by Samsung Knox.

We also uphold this standard of trust at the enterprise level. Last year, Samsung Business Experience Studios (BES) were launched in markets including Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore. These spaces are designed to help organisations envision how they can adopt innovative Samsung solutions to meet their specific industry challenges. With additional studios set to roll out across Southeast Asia and Oceania, we look forward to more opportunities for collaboration as we partner with enterprises to implement smart and secure solutions for their businesses.

Shaping Our Future Together

My first year leading SEAO has been characterised by our efforts to innovate, empower youth, and transform ecosystems across industries, all anchored in our evolution as an AI leader.

While we are encouraged by what we have achieved so far, our work here is far from over. I invite all our partners, consumers, and regional leaders to continue this journey with us in 2026 and beyond. As we pursue our ambition to establish Samsung as the undisputed leader in AI, we will strive to ensure that AI serves everyone throughout everyday life.

Together, let us shape a future where technology does not just connect devices, but connects people, communities, and possibilities across our vibrant region.

[1] Galaxy AI features are currently free of charge, with any specific plans for premium AI services to be decided in close coordination with our partners. There are currently no plans to charge for Galaxy AI features, however different terms may apply to other AI features provided by third parties.

[2] Requires Samsung Account, internet connection and SmartThings enabled devices. Please visit www.samsung.com/au/apps/smartthings/ for a list of current compatible devices.

Every day, people navigate unique circumstances that shape how they live and interact with their surroundings. At Samsung, we hold fast to our commitment to enhance daily experiences for everyone, developing solutions and technologies that empower people to experience a more personal and impactful world.

Reflecting on this purpose as we mark this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we turn the spotlight to inspiring solutions developed by youth in Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) for Samsung Solve for Tomorrow (SFT) 2025—our global flagship corporate social responsibility program now in its 15th year. The program encourages students to address local and global issues using STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), and we have seen innovative solutions developed by the next generation of changemakers committed to break barriers and drive equity within their communities.

Innovating for Independence in Sports

Many of us stay healthy, build friendships, and enjoy the thrill of competition and achievement through sports and physical activity. Yet, individuals living with disabilities often face barriers when taking part in such activities.

Inspired by real challenges faced by the community and even close friends around them, some of our SFT teams explored how the intersection of sports and technological innovation can create meaningful opportunities for all to participate and compete. Projects from the Indonesia and Singapore teams were recognised for their innovative and impactful ideas, developed in line with SFT 2025’s new global theme—Social Change Through Sport & Technology—created in collaboration with the International Olympic Community.

Designed to help visually impaired runners navigate safely, RunSight combines smart glasses with a camera, earbuds, a computing unit, and a mobile app

Team LABMINO, winner for the University category in SFT Indonesia, were inspired by a close friend and avid runner who lives with impaired vision due to cataracts. This led them to create RunSight—a wearable device that recognizes track lines, detects obstacles, and estimates depth in real time. RunSight is designed to work without internet connectivity and with the goal of enabling these individuals to run freely and independently, which may reduce their need for guide runners.

Team Pei Pei Hwa Hwa’s Ando Hypohidrosis Vest acts like a “mechanical sweat gland”, helping individuals with hypohidrosis stay cool during outdoor activities

In Singapore, Team Pei Pei Hwa Hwa set out to improve outdoor experiences for individuals living with hypohidrosis—a condition that limits the body’s ability to produce enough sweat and regulate heat. In tropical climates, overheating can pose a serious risk, often leaving individuals reliant on ice packs, portable fans, or even surgery to stay cool during outdoor activities. To address this, the team developed the Ando Hypohidrosis Vest, an energy-efficient solution designed to keep the wearer’s back cool by circulating chilled coolant, enabling them to participate in everyday outdoor activities and exercise.

Bridging Voices, Building Shared Understanding

Deaf and hard of hearing individuals often face difficulties with understanding others and being understood. This prompted our Australian SFT winner to create a solution to support clearer communication.

Access Lens helps both Deaf and hard of hearing Auslan users feel more confident, connected, and included in everyday conversations

Within Australia’s Deaf and hard of hearing community, accessible and affordable Auslan (Australian sign language) translation tools remain limited. Major Prize SFT winner, Faiz Noorani, created Access Lens, a real-time augmented reality solution that uses smart glasses or a smartphone camera to convert spoken English into Auslan. Designed to run locally, Access Lens enables clearer communications with English speakers while avoiding the common barriers of other translation platforms, such as delays, cloud fees, and advertisements. With his AUD$10,000 (~US$6,574) prize money, Faiz plans to enhance Access Lens’ features, expand its reach, and build strategic partnerships to support long-term impact.

Equitable Medical Access and Early Intervention

AI SpineCheck provides a quick and easy way to screen children for scoliosis risk

In Thailand, Team AI SpineCheck set out to improve early detection of scoliosis after seeing many high school students needing spinal braces or surgery due to late diagnosis-leading to higher treatment costs for more advanced cases. Current screening methods often depend on medical personnel and can be inaccessible or inconsistent for local communities. AI SpineCheck simplifies this process with an AI-powered platform that analyses photos to assess spinal alignment. This offers a more accessible and convenient way to screen for scoliosis, supporting early intervention and better health outcomes.

Creating Better Accessibility and User-Centered Design for All

A key part of inclusion is not only designing innovations specifically for persons with disabilities, but ensuring everyday products and services meet the needs of all users, regardless of ability. Guided by this philosophy, Samsung devices, appliances, and solutions are designed to be inclusive, intuitive and convenient for all.

Visibility enhancement settings on the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo

Our 2025 Bespoke AI home appliances incorporate more streamlined control experiences that empower all users—including those with limited mobility—towards comfortable and accessible use. With simple voice commands, such as “Open the fridge door” to cue features like Auto Open Door for refrigerators[1], or “I’m going to sleep” to turn off lights and appliances via SmartThings routine once its set up[2]—users can manage their home hands-free. The Bespoke AI Pump Combo also features a large, easy-to-read digital display that replaces traditional dials and small text for smoother wash-cycle selection.

Guided by an accessibility-first approach, we constantly refine our designs across product development cycles, working closely with users to test and enhance usability. For instance, Samsung added audio guidance, color inversion or grayscale modes in their screen-equipped appliances for users with visual impairments. To make Samsung appliances easier to navigate, it keeps discovering new ways to enhance accessibility as shown in the award-winning[3] “Samsung Inclusive Essentials” concept, which aims to standardise sensory cues across products.

Building a More Inclusive Future Together

By seamlessly weaving intelligent, inclusive technology into everyday life, Samsung ensures that everyone—regardless of ability or environment—can enjoy connected and personalised experiences. From empowering communities through programs like Solve for Tomorrow to embedding accessibility into our products and services, we remain committed to enabling individuals to live more independently and open up more possibilities for people in their daily life.

At Samsung, we strive for continuous growth and improvement, while also recognising the importance of empowering the next generation to drive their own innovation and progress. Today, technologies like generative artificial intelligence (AI) are fast becoming the transformative technological developments of this era, and we strongly believe in the technology’s potential in enhancing our capabilities.

I found a recent report from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to be quite interesting; the findings revealed global human development progress – a measure of improvements in health, education, and income levels according to the UNDP’s Human Development Index (HDI) – has slowed to a 35-year low. While this take was concerning, what followed was unprecedented optimism about AI’s potential – with 60% of respondents worldwide hopeful that AI will create new job opportunities[1].

We now stand at the edge of a digital divide. As a global technology leader, we are taking on the responsibility to equip all with technology – such as AI – as well as skills that empower them to co-create meaningful change at scale.

Inspiring Collective Innovation Through Human-Centered AI

In the vibrant Southeast Asia & Oceania (SEAO) region, we are already seeing the next generation embracing AI’s potential, not just to shape their careers, but also to drive meaningful social change[2]. These insights align with UNDP findings that show two-thirds of respondents anticipating the usage of AI in education, health, or work within the next year.

At Samsung, initiatives like Solve for Tomorrow (SFT), our global flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, embodies the United Nations’ (UN) call for building an economy where people leverage AI rather than compete against it. Across SEAO, the 2025 edition of SFT has kicked off in Australia ,Vietnam, Indonesia, , Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia and New Zealand.

The Solve For Tomorrow 2025 Australia Major Prize winner hails from Melbourne, Australia, with his entry, “Access Lens”.

Through the competition, participants gain the skills and confidence to tackle complex problems, transforming their ideas into actionable solutions that solve real problems. One such example is Samsung Australia’s Solve for Tomorrow Major Winner, Faiz Noorani whose concept, Access Lens which is an AI-powered solution that uses augmented reality to improve real-time Auslan translation to assist Deaf and hard of hearing Australians. Designed to translate spoken English into Auslan signs via smart glasses or a smartphone camera, Access Lens aims to help users feel more confident, connected and included in everyday interactions.

Our approach to CSR also reflects the UN’s focus on embedding human agency across the full AI lifecycle, from design to deployment. Through programs like SFT, we ensure that young innovators remain at the center of technological solutions, and not just as passive recipients.

Investing in the Leaders of Tomorrow

Today, we are also seeing the democratisation of AI underway. Our own youth survey on AI reveals that 9 in 10 youths in SEAO are using AI daily.

Notably, the UNDP highlights that 70% of people in low- and medium-HDI countries expect AI to increase their productivity. These insights reinforce the potential of AI as a bridge to new knowledge and skills, thereby making Samsung’s contributions towards skills development not just beneficial, but essential for regional economic growth and competitiveness.

Creating a future-ready workforce means bridging the digital divide, and ensuring those without easy access to education, technology, and upskilling opportunities, have the support they need to both participate in and drive change.

Samsung Innovation Campus is a global education program that helps youth build advanced IT skills and practical capabilities for better opportunities.

Across the region, we empower young people through initiatives like Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC), providing information and communications technology education in areas such as Coding & Programming, Internet of Things and AI. By bridging the skills gap and laying a foundation for future employment, we’re contributing to the development of skilled professionals and supporting national goals, such as Indonesia’s digital economy growth, which will need an additional 9 million digital talent by 2030.

Over in Thailand, our decade-long partnership with the Office of the Vocational Education Commission through the Dual Vocational Education (DVE) program empowers vocational students with real-world experience and future-ready capabilities. By combining classroom learning with on-the-job training, the program not only strengthens technical expertise, but also cultivates vital skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. This well-rounded approach ensures that students are fully equipped to succeed and contribute meaningfully to Thailand’s development.

Technology as a Bridge

This commitment to inclusivity extends beyond product design and into how we think about the future of work. As industries evolve and the green economy expands, we must ensure that no one is left behind.

By working closely with government agencies, educators, partners, customers, and the youth who will inherit this future, we are building not just products but responding to the urgent need for new approaches to development, by creating pathways where innovation uplifts communities, and ensuring that everyone has a role in shaping an AI-enhanced future.

Designed to translate spoken English into Auslan signs via smart glasses or a smartphone camera, Access Lens aims to help users feel more confident, connected and included in everyday interactions.

Motivated by the lack of accessible Auslan learning tools, Faiz also envisioned Access Lens as an educational platform offering interactive, self-paced lessons. Designed to run locally, it removes barriers like delays, cloud fees and ads, with the potential to be subsidised for broader community access. With applications in both communication and education, Access Lens marks a promising step toward greater inclusion for Deaf and hard of hearing Australians.

Faiz will use the $10,000 prize to further develop Access Lens; enhancing its features, expanding its reach, and building strategic partnerships to support long-term impact.

Faiz said, “Winning Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow competition is something I’m very proud of. The idea came from seeing a friend who is partly deaf, struggle to communicate in class, and it made me think about how many people face similar challenges every day. I wanted to create something that could help break down those barriers and make communication fairer and more accessible. It’s amazing to see that idea recognised, and it’s a reminder that you don’t need to have everything figured out to start—you just need a bit of curiosity and the drive to keep learning.”

Melbourne-based 22-year-old Ahan Khiani was awarded the ‘Runner-Up 19–24’ prize for his concept, Team Up—a mobile app designed to help adults stay active and socially connected through sport.

Recognising the difficulty of finding teammates and casual sports games after school or university, Team Up uses AI to match users with local teams, open games and fellow players based on sport preferences, location, availability and skill level. The platform also supports community teams seeking fill-ins, helping to foster a more inclusive and dynamic grassroots sporting ecosystem. With plans to pilot the app in local venues and expand through partnerships, Team Up aims to remove barriers to participation and promote lifelong engagement in sport.

Ahan said, “Sport should be one of the most inclusive parts of our week, but I saw how quickly participation drops when teams are short of players or games are cancelled. That experience—and the data—led me to create Team Up, a simple web app that helps clubs and players connect so more people can stay active and involved. Being recognised through Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow competition is a powerful reminder that young people’s ideas can drive real change when given the right support. Starting was the hardest part, but by staying curious and learning through doing, I’ve seen how technology like AI and STEM can help build stronger, more connected communities.”

NSW-based, Jack Lowe has been awarded the ‘Runner-Up 14–18’ prize for his concept, Eilik—an AI-powered results comparison platform designed to help educators identify potential academic dishonesty in the age of generative AI.

By analysing a student’s historical performance across subjects, Eilik estimates expected outcomes and flags significant anomalies for teacher review. Jack’s goal is to support fair learning environments and ensure students receive the help they need to build strong foundations in science, mathematics and English. With plans to expand its capabilities and explore broader applications in education, Eilik reflects a thoughtful response to one of the sector’s emerging challenges.

Jack said, “What started as a school project quickly became something much bigger. I saw how widespread cheating through AI had become and felt it was an issue that needed to be addressed. Over the past few months, I’ve taught myself Python and built a solution from the ground up, which showed me how powerful technology can be when it’s used to solve real problems. I’m proud to be recognised as one of the winners of Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow competition. For anyone thinking about getting into STEM or AI – stick with it. It’s not always easy, but the effort you put in can lead to something genuinely meaningful”

In addition to prize money, each of the three winners received a Samsung ‘Productivity Pack’ including a Galaxy Z Flip7/Galaxy A56, Smart Monitor M70D and Galaxy Buds3.

Brett Turnbull, Director of Corporate Marketing at Samsung Electronics Australia, said, Programs such as Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow are more than competitions – they’re a launchpad for the problem solvers and innovators our future depends on. By backing young Australians with the skills and support to explore STEM and AI capabilities, we’re helping to shape a pipeline of talent ready to drive progress and make a real change, both in their communities and future industries”

Dr Kirsten Banks, Astrophysicist, STEM advocate and Solve for Tomorrow 2025 Ambassador, said, “Each year, I’m impressed by the depth of thinking and creativity shown by young Australians using STEM and AI to address real-world issues. The 2025 entries show just how powerful technology can be when paired with empathy and purpose. It’s inspiring to see these ideas not only tackle complex challenges, but also reflect a deep commitment to inclusion, education, and community impact.”

Now in its 15th year globally, Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow continues to champion youth-led innovation. The 2025 program introduced new themes—Technology for Sustainability and Social Change through Sports—alongside existing categories Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Education. The challenge encouraged bold thinking and empowered young Australians to apply STEM and AI to real-world issues, from climate action to inclusive education. Solve for Tomorrow continues to demonstrate the power of education and industry working together – showcasing how Australia’s next generation can use STEM and AI to solve issues, build new opportunities and create lasting impact for communities.

Samsung Electronics has today announced its annual Solve for Tomorrow 2025 competition, which is calling on Gen Z Australians to harness the power of STEM[3], creativity, and technology to tackle real-world challenges.

The nationwide challenge is open to problems-solvers who are seeking to shape a better future through STEM. Whether it’s tackling climate change or improving equity in education, the program empowers young minds to turn ideas into action.

The 2025 launch comes as new Samsung research reveals 70% of Gen Z Australians state they are motivated to improve societal issues and the state of the world, while 68% stating they believe STEM can play a critical role in solving some of the world’s most pressing problems such as climate change and equitable access to education [4]. This generation isn’t just hopeful – they’re action-oriented, driven by a desire to create meaningful change through innovation. Solve for Tomorrow 2025 aims to harness that passion, providing a platform for their ideas to help shape a smarter, more sustainable future.

Now in its 15th year globally, Solve for Tomorrow has become a global launch pad and dynamic platform for youth-led innovation. This year’s program introduces two new timely themes: ‘Technology for Sustainability’ and ‘Social Change through Sports and Technology’ – joining the original categories of ‘Diversity, Equity and Inclusion’ and ‘Education’, all of which are designed to encourage participants to think big, and act boldly, developing solutions with global impact.

Returning as Samsung Australia’s Solve for Tomorrow ambassador is renowned astrophysicist to encourage participants to think big, and act boldly, and ultimately develop solutions that will help make a global impact and science communicator Dr Kirsten Banks, who will inspire young Australians to explore how STEM and AI can drive meaningful change.

“Young Australians are already leading the way – using technology, creativity and curiosity to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our world,” said Dr Kirsten Banks. “Solve for Tomorrow is about giving them the tools, support and a platform. I’m proud to be part of a program that empowers the next generation to explore how STEM and AI can drive meaningful, lasting change – not just for their communities, but for our collective future.”

A Platform for Purpose-Driven Innovation

Running from 19 June to 25 July 2025, the 2025 Solve for Tomorrow competition invites participants aged 14–24 to submit an application up to 400 words describing their STEM-based solution in line with one of the global themes[5]. Participants can enter via the official Solve for Tomorrow website.

A panel of judges will review the submissions and invite all shortlisted entries to attend Design Thinking workshops to further develop their idea and receive mentoring. From there, the shortlisted entrants will submit a final video pitch for judging with the announcement of the overall winner and runners-up happening in September.

For the opportunity to win an additional prize, participants can along with their main submission include a link to a TikTok video describing their STEM-based solution. TikTok entries must use #SFT_AU_2025 and #SolveForTomorrow to be eligible for the Social Amplify competition[6].

In 2025, there are a range of prizes for the Solve for Tomorrow Main Competition, including one Major Prize of $10,000 in cash and a Samsung Ultimate Productivity Pack that includes a includes a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 5G, 32” Smart Monitor M70D UHD and Galaxy Buds3. As a part of the Social Amplify competition, participants who submit a TikTok video alongside their main submission also have the chance to win a Galaxy A56.[7]

Gen Z Leaning into Social Media and AI

This year’s socially-led competition approach taps into where Gen Z already spends their time – Samsung research shows that 59% of Gen Z use social media daily, with 72% most active on TikTok, and over 52% believing TikTok’s recently launched STEM tab can help boost their skills and knowledge of STEM[8].

In addition, the findings paint a picture of a generation with 57% of Gen Z Australians describe themselves as “hopeful but cautious”, emphasising the need to use technology responsibly[9]. Meanwhile, 15% express concern that society isn’t moving fast enough to address the major challenges ahead[10].

AI also features prominently in their vision for the future, with 60% of respondents stating they see AI as a force for good in society, with 43% already incorporating it into their daily routines[11]. When thinking about where AI could make the biggest difference in the next five years, young Australians are looking beyond just entertainment. In fact, 38% say AI has the most potential to transform education by improving access and enabling more personalised ways to learn[12]. That’s well ahead of areas like healthcare, showing just how strongly Gen Z believes in the power of technology to help shape a better and smarter future. As a global leader in technology, Samsung is committed to help drive awareness, harnessing the power of AI and potentially delivering meaningful impact across education, sustainability, and innovation.

A Global Movement with Local Impact

Since 2010, Solve for Tomorrow has supported over 2 million students worldwide. In 2025, Samsung remains committed to equipping the next generation of innovators with the tools, technology, and platform to amplify their voices, and generate ideas.

Samsung Electronics Australia has today announced the winners of its 2024 Solve for Tomorrow competition. The nationwide program invites young Australians aged 14-24 years to develop innovative solutions for real-world issues they’re passionate about, using STEM skills, creativity, critical thinking and collaborative teamwork to bring these to life.

Solve for Tomorrow 2024 Major Winners – Exam Insights – Jason Zhong, Bradley Cox

Queensland-based 19-year-old, Bradley Cox, has taken out the top prize. His start-up, Exam Insights, is on a mission to provide a question bank in every classroom, built from resources students and teachers already have. Launched in late 2023, the platform centralised past exam papers into highly accessible question banks specifically for Year 12 QLD external exams, making them accessible and useful for students and educators.

After seeing the platform benefit over 22,000 users across Queensland, Brad and his co-founder, Jason Zhong, soon realised they hadn’t just solved their own problem—they’d created a solution with far-reaching potential. They expanded Exam Insights into a tool that could help anyone organise and align their own resources, reducing workloads for educators and simplifying study for students.

As the major prize winner, Brad has won $10,000 to put towards enhancing the platform with new features and services, expanding across Australia and supporting new, strategic partnerships.

Brad said, “What began as a tool to solve our own problem quickly grew into a platform designed to empower classrooms everywhere. Being selected as the winner of Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow competition is an incredible honour and validation of our work and impact on students and educators alike. STEM is an incredible field where curiosity and creativity come together to create solutions that matter. To young Aussies interested in studying STEM, I say start small, learn as you go, and don’t be afraid to fail—it’s all part of the process. Most importantly, focus on how your skills can help others. That’s where the real impact lies, and that’s what makes the journey worthwhile.”

Queensland-based 22-year-old, Keziah Furnell has been awarded the ‘Runner-Up 19-24’ prize with her business, STEM Sisterhood which is aimed at fostering greater participation in STEM for girls and women via a series of workshops exploring different STEM fields, problem solving and collaboration – with a particular focus on accessing girls and women in regional areas. As the prize winner in this category, Keziah has been awarded $5,000 to go towards developing a new range of workshops that will expand into more regional towns, purchase further scientific equipment for the workshops, and enable further engagement with female STEM experts to host the workshops and connect and collaborate with students.

Keziah said, “I was inspired to tackle the issue of underrepresentation of regional and public-school female STEM students when I walked into my first university engineering lecture and discovered only 12 women out of 120 students. I wanted to make girls see from a young age that the ‘play’ they engage in is science that has real scientific pathways. My workshops focus on exploring chemistry through the wonderful world of bath bombs or kitchen chemistry. I am so grateful to be chosen as a recipient of the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition and would advise any young Australians interested in studying STEM to go for it – your ideas are valid and important, and anyone has the capacity to change the world.”

Sydney-based 16-year-old, Shuwei Guo is the minor winner within the 14-18 year-old category with his personalised education platform concept, Enlight – an innovative, free and AI-powered short-form platform designed to make learning addictive by tailoring education to each individual’s knowledge level, learning type (e.g. visual learning vs. kinaesthetic) by harnessing specific nomenclature and proprietary AI models to gamify traditional education.

The $5,000 prize money will go towards establishing a pilot program within local schools, libraries and community centres, as well as working with educators to refine the platform and establishing a volunteer program of tech-savvy individuals to assist those using the platform.

Shuwei said, “I was inspired to tackle educational inequality after seeing firsthand how limited access to quality learning resources can impact students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Something imperative to my design and iteration processes was making a product that you and your friends would genuinely and consistently use – not ‘just’ another mediocre GPT wrapper. My formative experiences as a student taught me examples of how much personalised, engaging educational content can have a poignant impact in helping students reach their full potential, and I’m grateful to Samsung for the opportunity to showcase how technology can be used to create positive change in our communities.”

In addition to the prize money, each of the three winners have received a Samsung productivity pack that includes a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 5G/Galaxy A55 5G, 32″ Smart Monitor M70D UHD, and Galaxy Buds2.

Brett Turnbull, Director of Corporate Marketing at Samsung Electronics Australia, and judge on the panel for Solve for Tomorrow 2024 said, “At Samsung, we’re dedicated to empowering young Australians to turn their innovative ideas into impactful solutions. This year’s entries showcased the remarkable creativity and purpose-driven mindset of this generation, with participants tackling a diverse range of issues with passion and ingenuity. It’s inspiring to see the potential of STEM in helping develop meaningful change and shape a better future for all.”

Dr Kirsten Banks, Astrophysicist, STEM advocate and Solve for Tomorrow 2024 ambassador said, “I’m continually inspired by the ingenuity and passion of young Australians, and it was exciting to see that firsthand in the submissions. The Solve for Tomorrow 2024 entries demonstrate the power of STEM to address real-world challenges, and the innovative solutions shared make me excited to see what comes next from these bright and curious minds.”

To participate in Solve for Tomorrow, young Australians aged 14-24 years needed to submit a 400-word proposal outlining the issue facing their community and how they would use STEM to solve it, attend a Design Thinking Workshop, and then submit a final video pitch proposal. A panel of judges reviewed the proposals and selected the winners based on a scoring system analysing their STEM application, creativity, feasibility, relevancy and presentation.

The Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition has been empowering young innovators since launching in Australia in 2021; reaching hundreds of students and fostering their passion for STEM while encouraging them to pursue careers in the industry.

Samsung Electronics Australia in partnership with Student Edge has today released insights from its Gen Z survey, “Voices of Tomorrow: overcoming roadblocks to youth action today”[1] to coincide with its Solve for Tomorrow STEM competition for young Australian innovators.

The survey was commissioned to uncover the dynamic and inventive ways Australians aged 14 to 24 years are taking action on the issues that matter most to them; while also revealing the common roadblocks standing in their way when it comes to turning ideas into actions to create positive societal change.

The findings uncover a surprising truth: young Australians, often seen as a vocal generation, feel significantly disempowered in their ability to create meaningful change. The majority (83%) agreed that STEM skills are essential in helping enact positive change, yet three-quarters (75%) felt largely unequipped to take advantage of these skills.

Young Australians are disconnected on how they can have a positive impact on issues that matter to them. Despite wanting to stand up for what they believe in, nearly half (44%) of Gen Z do not feel like it would make a difference, and 39% don’t know how best to take a stand on the social issues they care about. Highlighting a possible way forward for the unsure generation, more than half (53%) of Gen Z think using STEM to create technology or solutions that address the issues they care about is the most effective way to bring about change.

Nearly four million Gen Z Australians[2] could be the next generation of STEM innovators with 83% of those surveyed agreeing that understanding and using technology is key to making positive changes in the world. Despite over half strongly agreeing that STEM enables the opportunities to turn innovative ideas into reality, only one in four (25%) are confident they have the STEM skills to do so. Almost half (49%) say the biggest hurdle is the lack of resources, support network, and monetary support to enable them to do so. These findings indicate that more focus is needed on upskilling young Australians in STEM-related skills to bridge the gap between intentions to create positive change and equipping them with the right skills and resources to do so.

Dr Kirsten Banks, Astrophysicist, STEM advocate and Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2024 spokesperson said, “There’s definitely a drive in this generation to enact change but there’s a disconnect between the tools, skills and resources they need to be able to speak out on and action the issues that matter to them most.”

“The opportunity is well and truly there for our innovative young thinkers to create meaningful change with STEM when given the opportunities and support. This is why I’m thrilled to be involved in this year’s Samsung Solve for Tomorrow program, supporting young innovators to use STEM to turn their ideas and dreams into creating real, positive change in their communities”

Young Australians are not just seeing STEM as a way to bring about change. They also see it as a viable career path, with over four in five (83%) agreeing that STEM skills are essential not only to enact positive change, but also for future careers. Additionally, three-quarters (75%) agreed that STEM presents exciting opportunities and career pathways for them in the future.

With the number of STEM jobs growing twice as fast[3] as non-STEM related roles, there has never been a more pertinent time for equipping young Australians to upskill in STEM.

Brett Turnbull, Director of Corporate Marketing at Samsung Electronics Australia said, “Solve for Tomorrow is a great starting point for any young innovator wanting to get involved in STEM and understand how it can empower their community and future career opportunities at the same time.”

“As a global technology leader, Samsung understands the vital importance of STEM education in shaping the innovators of tomorrow. We are dedicated to empowering Australia’s next generation of problem solvers by nurturing their skills and offering opportunities for students to engage with both inside and beyond the classroom. Through initiatives like Solve for Tomorrow, we aim to inspire young minds and equip them with the tools they need to make a real difference in the world.”

What is Solve for Tomorrow and How Do You Enter?

Free to participate for Australians aged 14 to 24, Solve for Tomorrow is designed to empower the next generation of innovators by solving a problem facing their community under one of three categories, Sustainability, Education and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. The major winner will take home $10,000 cash as well as a suite of Samsung products to help make it a reality.

Educators also stand to win in Solve for Tomorrow, as entries that nominate their high school will be considered for the School Prize, a Flip Pro Interactive Display to help promote collaboration and engagement in the classroom. Recognising Gen Z’s passion for using social media for good, one participant will also receive a Samsung Productivity Pack as the Social Amplify Prize for best raising awareness for their cause on social media. To be considered, participants need to tag @SamsungAU and use the hashtag #SFT_AU_2024 across their social posts highlighting their cause.[4]

“I highly encourage any young person in Australia to get involved in Solve for Tomorrow. Building skills in critical thinking, creativity and communication can truly make meaningful change in the future and I can’t wait to see what you come up with” said Dr Kirsten Banks.

Samsung Electronics has today announced its Solve for Tomorrow 2024 competition is now open to young Australians aged 14 to 24 years[1].

Solve for Tomorrow is a national initiative from Samsung designed to engage and inspire the next generation of Australian innovators and problem solvers using STEM[2] skills, as well as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication to create solutions that address issues they are most passionate about.

Free to participate, the competition also supports the aspirations of young Australians considering a future career in STEM, at a time when the government is calling on industry and education to support young Australians to upskill in STEM for Australia’s changing future[3].

Brett Turnbull, Director of Corporate Marketing at Samsung Electronics Australia said, “Young people in Australia are leading the way in innovation, finding new and creative ways to tackle important societal issues, using technology and social media to help generate awareness and start movements. This proactivity and creativity needs to be supported with tangible platforms that can help bring these ideas-for-good to reality.”

“As a leader in technology and AI, it is our goal to help encourage young minds to envision and realise innovative solutions that can resolve challenges and risks their communities face. With Solve for Tomorrow, we’re proud to facilitate a real-world opportunity to problem solve, as well as inspire a future career path in STEM.”

This year, Samsung has again partnered with Student Edge to connect its network of 1.3 million students to the Solve for Tomorrow competition via ongoing engagement and content on social media and Design Thinking workshops happening in September.

To get involved, young Australians are invited to submit a written application of up to 400 words via the Solve for Tomorrow website that identifies an issue their community is facing and outlines a potential STEM solution to that issue.

A panel of judges will review the submissions and invite all shortlisted entries to attend a Design Thinking workshop to further develop their idea and receive mentoring. From there, the shortlisted entrants will submit a final video pitch for judging, with the announcement of the overall winner and runners-up happening in December.

There are five chances to win across the Solve for Tomorrow competition, including one Major Prize of $10,000 in cash and a Samsung Ultimate Productivity Pack that includes a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 5G, 32” Smart Monitor M70D UHD and Galaxy Buds2.

For the first time, entries that also nominate their high school will be eligible to be awarded the ‘School Prize’, comprising a 75″ Flip Pro Interactive Display for their school. A ‘Social Amplify Prize’ has also been introduced to recognise an entrant’s creative social content that raises awareness of their STEM solution for their community or societal issue. To be considered, entrants must include the hashtag #SFT_AU_2024 in their content.[4]

Since launching in Australia in 2021, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow has empowered young innovators and reached thousands of students, fostering their passion for STEM and encouraging them to pursue careers in the industry.
