As a long-time partner of the Canadian Olympic Committee, Samsung’s donation of up to $25,000 for as many as 25 medal wins, will help fund community-level sports programming and education for aspiring athletes.

Sport is a powerful pastime that inspires confidence, collaboration and unity, all foundational elements of the Olympic spirit. To stand by Team Canada athletes during these unprecedented Games and inspire the next generation, Samsung Canada is excited to announce a $1,000 pledge for every medal won by Canadian Olympic athletes. The funding effort, which will support the Canadian sport system through the Canadian Olympic Foundation (COF), means each medal will be more than a single victory for any individual athlete, but an investment in the future of high-performance sport across Canada.

“Team Canada athletes and Olympians around the globe have long relied on support networks of family, friends and fans to get to the podium. Without that support network in the stands this year, we must do more to make each medal win extra special, and to pass the torch to the next generation of high-performance athletes across Canada,” said Jeff Jo, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics Canada. “From coast to coast, from one team to another, Samsung Canada wishes Team Canada a successful Games. We look forward to cheering on our athletes throughout their time in Tokyo.”

While the Olympic Games are the ultimate spectator sport, high-performance athletes rely heavily on funding to achieve their dreams. As the official charitable organization of the Canadian Olympic Committee, the COF supports athletes and coaches with the resources needed to reach their full potential and pursue the podium. As stewards of the Samsung donation, the COF will invest the funds to support training, coaching, nutrition and state-of-the-art equipment across the country.

“We are thrilled that Samsung Canada has chosen to show its support for Team Canada by investing in Canadian athletes and the national programs that help make their dreams possible,” said David Shoemaker, CEO & Secretary General, Canadian Olympic Committee. “The Olympic Games may be different this year, but the passion of our athletes is as strong as ever and they rely on this type of support to reach the podium.”

With a commitment of up to $25,000 for as many as 25 medal wins at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, the Samsung pledge will serve as added inspiration for Team Canada and more reason for fans watching from home to rally behind our athletes.
