Quantum dots have attracted attention as next-generation material for a wide range of applications including displays, medical devices and solar cells. In 2014, Samsung Electronics developed its no-cadmium quantum dot material and successfully commercialized quantum dot technology with its SUHD TVs[1]. Since 2017, the company has continued to build on its legacy of quantum dot mastery through QLED — its own quantum dot TV series. Samsung Newsroom explored how quantum dots are taking Samsung displays to the next level.

Quantum Dots: The Next Generation of Display Innovation

Quantum dots are ultra-fine semiconductor particles that are tens of thousands of times thinner than a human hair. Since inception, their physical characteristics that allow them to provide the highest level of colour accuracy and brightness among existing materials had them positioned to revolutionize display technology.

When used in displays, quantum dots support a wide colour gamut that closely matches colours perceived by the human eye and facilitate pixel-level light adjustment for more accurate black levels. Emitting light in all directions, quantum dots deliver uniform luminance and consistent colour from different viewing angles while minimizing blue light exposure for a more comfortable viewing experience.

SUHD TVs at CES 2015

What Sets Quantum Dot TVs Apart: Content, Film Quality and No-Cadmium Technology

The TV industry continues research and development into the commercialization of quantum dots as the material becomes a game-changer in display technology. For that reason, a variety of quantum dot TVs have hit the market recently — offering a wide range of options to customers.

However, key differences in quantum dot TVs lie in how the technology is implemented and the overall quality of the display. To deliver a premium viewing experience, factors such as the amount of quantum dot content, the quality of quantum dot film and the use of no-cadmium materials must be considered.

Factors to consider when selecting a high-quality quantum dot TV

Quantum Dot Content

The true quality of a Samsung quantum dot TV is defined by its quantum dot content. The quantum dot film requires a minimum of 3,000 parts per million (ppm) of the material to achieve the vivid, rich picture quality and colour expression that quantum dots are known to deliver.

Quantum Dot Film

Samsung QLEDs eliminate the need for a separate phosphor layer, enhancing light and energy efficiency while delivering vivid colours. A quantum dot OLED (QD-OLED), which consists of a thin-film transistor (TFT) layer,1 a self-emitting light source and a quantum dot film that uses the light emitted from the light source, takes a step further enhancing picture quality. In either case, a dedicated quantum dot film that contains sufficient quantum dots is key in delivering stunning picture quality.

A comparison of QD-OLED and LCD displays

No Cadmium

In the early stages of developing quantum dot TVs, cadmium was essential to achieving the key benefits of quantum dots such as colour reproduction and contrast ratio. At the time, cadmium was considered the most efficient material for producing quantum dots.

However, cadmium’s toxicity became a significant obstacle to the commercialization of quantum dot technology.

In response to this challenge, Samsung developed no-cadmium quantum dot material in 2014 and successfully commercialized quantum dot technology with its SUHD TVs in the following year to open a new era of quantum dot TVs.[2]

10 Years of Quantum Dot Innovation and Leadership

Samsung has quickly recognized the potential of quantum dot technology and sought innovation in the global display market over the past decade through continuous research and investment.

A timeline of Samsung’s quantum dot technology development from 2001 to 2022

Samsung began researching and developing quantum dot technology in 2001 — at a time when there was limited research on non-cadmium materials. Achieving vivid colours required making the nano-sized particles uniform, but the lack of technology and research made mass production extremely challenging.

Despite these obstacles, Samsung succeeded in creating a no-cadmium nanocrystal material in 2014. Since then, the company has accumulated extensive expertise — registering more than 150 patents — and continuously worked on advancing the technology. Samsung’s long-standing commitment culminated in 2015 when the company unveiled the SUHD TVs with no-cadmium quantum dot technology.[3]

QLED TVs (75Q8C and 88Q8F) at Samsung’s First Look 2017 event during CES 2017

Samsung’s QLED lineup was revealed in 2017. By applying metal quantum dot technology, Samsung achieved the Digital Cinema Initiative’s colour standard DCI-P3 and achieved 100% colour volume— thereby presenting amazing colour expression. Notably, the use of inorganic quantum dot technology protected the screens from burn-in2 to deliver consistent picture quality over time.

Following its success in developing a red light-emitting element for displays in 2019, the company enhanced the luminous efficiency of blue self-emitting QLEDs — considered the most challenging to implement among the three primary QLED colours3 — to a staggering20.2%.

“Discovering a blue material for self-emitting QLEDs and demonstrating performance at the device level were significant achievements of this research,” said Dr. Eunjoo Chang, a fellow at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology. “Samsung’s distinctive quantum dot technology has once again overcome technical barriers.”

These powerfuladvancements led to the launch of the QD-OLED TVs, making history at CES 2022 by winning the Best of Innovation award for integrating quantum dot technology and OLED displays.

Samsung remains dedicated to advancing quantum dot technology through continuous innovation. The company continues to invest in leading display technology — from SUHD to Neo QLED — by offering high brightness, colour accuracy and frequency. Driven by Samsung’s unrivaled quantum dot innovations, the future of display technology is brighter than ever.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that approximately 80 models in its 2025 TV, monitor and soundbar lineups have received Product Carbon Reduction1 and Product Carbon Footprint2 certifications from TÜV Rheinland, a globally recognized certification organization based in Germany. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the premium lineups, Neo QLED 8K and Neo QLED, have received certifications, reinforcing the company’s continued efforts in carbon reduction.

“Samsung Electronics is committed to driving technological innovation for a sustainable future,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

Following last year’s certification of 60 models across the Neo QLED, OLED and Lifestyle TV categories, Samsung has further increased its number of certified products in 2025 to include QLED TVs. In addition, the company is also working towards obtaining certification for its Color E-Paper lineup later this year.

The certifications from TÜV Rheinland are awarded following a rigorous evaluation of a product’s entire lifecycle — including manufacturing, transportation, usage and disposal — based on internationally recognized standards. By assessing and verifying carbon emissions at each stage, these certifications highlight Samsung’s efforts to reduce environmental impact across its product lineup.

TÜV Rheinland evaluated greenhouse gas emissions for Samsung’s TV products throughout their life cycle- “from Cradle to Grave” – ranging from manufacturing, transportation, use to disposal, in accordance with the internationally recognized standards such as ISO 14067 and ISO 14064-4 as well as TÜV Rheinland’s self-developed standard 2 PfG Q2880/09.23. It verifies and certifies that all of eight TV product series meet the carbon reduction standard requirement set by TÜV Rheinland. The newly certified products include two Neo QLED 8K series, three Neo QLED 4K series, two OLED series and one series of The Frame.

In addition to product certification, Samsung’s Visual Display Business obtained the display and consumer electronics industry’s first “Product Carbon Footprint Calculation Method” certification from TÜV Rheinland. This certification measures and manages greenhouse gas emissions throughout the complete life cycle of a product, collecting and analyzing data in accordance with management regulations and stipulated execution manuals to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and ensure transparent and reproducible results.

As Samsung continues its work to reduce the environmental impact of its products, it aims to achieve TÜV Rheinland’s “Product Carbon Footprint” and “Product Carbon Reduction” certifications for over 60 models in 2024, including newly introduced soundbars. With these eight product series’ carbon reduction result and analysis report, Samsung has more confidence and clear direction in the development and design of the next generation decarbonized TV product.

This recognition builds on previous acknowledgements of Samsung’s sustainability efforts. It obtained its first “Reducing CO2” certification from the Carbon Trust in 2021 for Neo QLED 4K and higher resolution TVs. In 2022, 11 TV models and five monitor and signage products achieved the ‘Reducing CO2’ certification, and most recently, 24 models across Samsung’s 2023 lineup were certified by the Carbon Trust and TÜV Rheinland.

Relumino Together Mode provides standard screens and Relumino Mode screens side-by-side, so people with low vision and their families can enjoy TV together.

MICRO LED: Pushing the Boundaries of Display Technology

With the new transparent MICRO LED, Samsung is showing the world that there are new possibilities for screens. The screen, which looks like a piece of transparent glass, boasts an extremely small MICRO LED chip and precision manufacturing process that eliminates seams and light refraction. This allows the transparent MICRO LED to create a clear, unobstructed picture for various use cases in both homes and B2B environments.

Touting a modular design that allows users to personalize the shape, size and ratio of screens to fit theirspace, MICRO LED is a truly innovative screen technology. Samsung’s years of research and development — stemming from its semiconductor expertise — have led to its development of a process that allows LED chip operation circuits to be directly deposited on the glass, which mitigates against loss of brightness that users may experience with conventional displays.

Offering Wider OLED Lineups To Meet Consumer Preferences

Samsung’s 2024 OLED TVs build on the legacy of last year’s models, with the S95D offering an ultra-large 77-inch canvas for high-detail, a high-frame rate and intensely vibrant video. The display is 20% brighter than previous models, with deep and rich blacks and AI-enhanced colour accuracy

that is Pantone Validated. Samsung has also introduced the S90D and S85D in various sizes, from 42” to 83’’.[8]

A bigger TV screen is generally speaking a good thing. Over time, larger TVs have not only become more accessible but increasingly popular among consumers.

A bigger TV screen is generally speaking a good thing. Over time, larger TVs have not only become more accessible but increasingly popular among consumers. They enable viewers to fully immerse themselves in the content they’re watching, as advancements in film technology now allow our favourite stories to come to life on the screen in more realistic ways.

However, simply having a larger screen does not always result in a hyper-realistic viewing experience. As we enter the era of ultra-large TVs, Samsung Electronics has been upgrading its screen technology to provide the best in-home entertainment. To learn more about these changes, Samsung Newsroom is exploring three key features that make the large-screen experience truly exceptional.

8K Resolution: The Key to Unlocking the Full Potential of Bigger TVs

While screen sizes may be getting bigger, this does not mean that picture quality is better by default. If the size of a TV screen was increased without considering the number of pixels, the resulting image would be blurry, low-resolution and, overall, much worse.

▲ If the number of pixels does not change, image quality becomes compromised as screens grow larger.

In order to improve picture quality, the space on a bigger screen must be filled with more pixels. As such, Samsung’s Neo QLED 8K has four times the number of pixels than 4K TVs. This means that even on ultra-large screens, Samsung’s Real 8K Resolution maintains premium picture quality with densely packed Mini LEDs and upgraded processing.

▲ The Neo QLED 8K offers four times as many pixels compared to the Neo QLED 4K.

While Samsung has been at the forefront of evolving screen trends by leading the era of ultra-large TVs, it has also been innovating the technologies that power them. The two driving forces that enhance picture quality for Samsung’s latest Neo QLED 8K are the Neural Quantum Processor 8K, which analyzes and optimizes content to make full use of the 33 million pixels, and Quantum Matrix Technology Pro, which leverages a plethora of technologies to offer precise control for each of the Mini LEDs.

Neural Quantum Processor 8K: Enhancing the Resolution, Colour and Depth With 64 Neural Networks

While Samsung Neo QLED 8K TVs offer best-in-market picture quality, not all content is readily available in 8K. To ensure that every single detail springs to life on screen, Samsung’s Neo QLED 8K is powered by the state-of-the-art Neural Quantum Processor 8K to upscale lower-resolution content in real time. Samsung’s Neural Quantum Processor 8K uses 64 different neural networks to analyze video and optimize image quality. It is trained to recognize underlying patterns and relationships in pictures, transforming low-resolution images into high-resolution by comparing the original set of images to processed results in each neural network.

While higher resolution sources ultimately create better picture outputs, there may be sources that come in Standard Definition (SD or 480p), High Definition (HD or 720p) or Full High Definition (FHD or 1080p). With Samsung’s Neural Quantum Processor 8K, those shows and movies will be transformed into stunning 8K resolution to deliver the most immersive picture yet.

▲ Enjoy optimal picture quality no matter the source with Neural Quantum Processor 8K.

Samsung’s advanced processor also powers innovations such as Auto HDR Remastering, a feature that takes full advantage of the screen’s wide colour gamut and incredible peak brightness. AI technology analyzes each scene to make it more colourful and vivid, bringing out the details in both bright and dark spots.

High Dynamic Range (HDR) video formats the display using a wider range of colours with brighter highlights when compared to Standard Dynamic Range content. This means that with Auto HDR Remastering – and the extraordinary contrast powered by Quantum Matrix Technology Pro with Quantum Dot technology – everything you watch is more compelling.

▲ HDR displays a wider range of colors with brighter highlights compared to SDR.

Samsung’s Neo QLED 8K also offers Real Depth Enhancer Pro. With upgraded AI deep learning, Real Depth Enhancer Pro pinpoints where the viewer is focusing on the screen and brings that object into the foreground. With figures on the screen separated from their background, you see a more three-dimensional looking image. Additionally, the Neural Quantum Processor provides a sense of depth paired with incredible levels of detail and vivid colour reproduction, immersing you in whatever you choose to watch.

▲ Real Depth Enhancer Pro finds the point the viewer is focusing on and brings the object into the foreground.

Quantum Matrix Technology Pro: The Ultimate Precision With Quantum Mini LEDs and 14-bit Processing

Another critical piece of technology powering the Neo QLED 8K’s picture is Quantum Matrix Technology Pro, which uses Quantum Mini LEDs to dramatically enhance black levels and contrast with precise backlight control.

The Quantum Mini LED is 1/40 the size of a conventional LED. This makes for a screen that is more densely packed with LEDs, improving picture quality while maintaining the Neo QLED 8K TV’s vibrant colours and bright highlights.

▲ Precise backlight control with Quantum Matrix Technology Pro.

To provide the best image quality, 14-bit HDR processing allows for maximized contrast, expressing unimaginable levels of detail in both the brightest and darkest parts of the image. This ensures even the most subtle details are visible to users in every single scene.

Furthermore, Quantum Matrix Technology powers Samsung’s Shape Adaptive Light Control. This feature precisely adjusts backlighting to accommodate what’s on the screen, enhancing the clarity of everything you watch. Because the backlight control is so accurate, this prevents blooming – or when bright light from on-screen objects bleeds into surrounding darker areas. As a result, bright highlights stay bright and dark scenes stay dark with more details visible than ever before.

Expanding Consumers’ TV Usage

In a nutshell, 8K resolution densely fills the ultra-large screens while the Neural Quantum Processor 8K and Quantum Matrix Technology work together to create a picture that is cinematic in the truest sense. Sharp details, accurate colours, precise contrast and a realistic sense of depth allow the Neo QLED 8K to showcase stunning picture quality and captivate viewers everywhere.

Samsung Electronics Canada unveiled its 2023 lineup of Neo QLED 8K, Samsung OLED, sound devices and monitors as part of its global Unbox & Discover event. The brand showcased their latest innovations in smart connectivity, sustainability initiatives, premium viewing, and gaming experiences. This year’s lineup focuses on enhancing the user experience by making complex technologies more intuitive and seamlessly integrated into people’s lives, while delivering an impeccable picture and sound quality which consumers expect from Samsung screens.

“At Samsung, we understand that technology should empower and enhance people’s lives, not complicate them,” said Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of DX (Device eXperience) Division at Samsung Electronics. “By choosing Samsung, consumers can expect to experience an unparalleled level of wow factors, all while participating in eco-conscious practices for a sustainable future.”

Under the tagline “More Wow than Ever,” Samsung’s 2023 lineup is set to impress consumers. Samsung Canada is providing a recap of all the key announcements for those who have missed the livestream or simply want to revisit the announcements.

1 – Solutions for Your Tailormade Life: Five Foundations of SmartThings

In his opening remarks, JH Han underscored the company’s commitment to calm tech and innovation, providing consumers with the latest technologies that make life better. In particular, he introduced five core foundations of SmartThings, which aims to provide increased convenience when setting up a smart home.

Instant Connection: SmartThings enables users to easily connect their devices in just one step, allowing them to enjoy the synergy when only Samsung devices are used.

Automated Connection: SmartThings automatically connects Samsung devices[1], like TVs or smartphones with other Samsung devices such as the washers, dryers and refrigerators, eliminating the need for manual setup.

Hub Everywhere: The IoT hub is built into various Samsung products, including Samsung Smart TVs, making IoT setup a breeze.

Expansive Compatibility: SmartThings goes beyond just the Samsung ecosystem, enabling compatible devices from any brand to work seamlessly together thanks to the Home Connectivity Alliance and the international IoT communication standard, MATTER[2].

Security: With CC EAL 6+ certification, the new Samsung Knox Vault hardware chip encrypts all information from connected devices, ensuring a high level of security and offering peace of mind for users.

Understanding consumers have diverse technology ecosystems in their homes, Samsung helped form the Home Connectivity Alliance so all users’ favourite devices can work together, regardless of brand. And in the name of true connectivity, Samsung is also paving the way for smarter homes with support for MATTER, an international IoT communication standard that involves more than 220 global companies.

Thanks to this collaborative mindset and these five foundations, users can build a network of connected devices that makes their home smarter and their lives easier.

2 – Putting People and Planet at the Centre: Sustainability and Relumino

Samsung is committed to delivering innovative calm tech and eco-conscious practices that make life easier and better for its users. At every stage of the product lifecycle, from product sourcing to production, distribution, use and recycling, Samsung is striving to put sustainability first, utilizing various technologies to create products that will contribute to building a better planet for future generations.

Samsung aims to lead the way with three innovative approaches to sustainability: Turning CO2 into recycled materials, using fewer materials, and upcycling products and packaging. Samsung’s 2023 TVs, monitors, and remote controls use recycled resin made of at least 50% recycled materials.[3] In addition, Samsung has made significant efforts to ensure it is offering sustainable packaging, from the box to all the wrapping inside.

Samsung has also developed AI Energy Mode[4] that helps users monitor energy consumption and usage patterns, putting the users in control. AI Energy Mode feature even analyzes the content playing on the screen to reduce power consumption without distracting from the content.

Samsung’s third generations SolarCell Remote is more compact. As it uses Samsung’s proprietary technology, is also free of licensing requirements, allowing any manufacturer to join Samsung on the journey in making the world a more eco-conscious place.

Samsung also underscored its commitment to creating a better, more inclusive viewing experience for all with its latest Relumino Mode. Relumino Mode is designed to help people with visual impairments watch content more easily and has been awarded with the 2023 CES Innovation Award.[5]

By choosing Samsung, users can enjoy cutting-edge technology and join Samsung as it works towards sustainable and inclusive practices that align with core values of ESG.

With its technical expertise and industry-leading innovation, Samsung Electronics has been recognized for its global market leadership and excellence.

According to market research firm Omdia, Samsung once again topped the global TV market in 2022, making it the 17th year in a row the company has ranked first in the TV industry[1]. This accomplishment can be attributed to the company’s commitment to premium viewing experiences and user-centered design.

By prioritizing its premium product lineup, Samsung has upheld its leadership in the TV industry for an impressive 17 years, exemplified best by its Neo QLED lineup. In 2022, Samsung sold a staggering 9.65 million units of QLED and Neo QLED TVs, bringing cumulative sales to 35 million units since the launch of Samsung’s QLED technology in 2017. Samsung also dominated the ultra-large TV market segment in 2022, reporting a 36.1% and 42.9% global market share for TVs over 75-inches and 80-inches respectively. For the premium TV market priced over $2,500, Samsung retained the largest global market share by revenue at 48.6%.

“Our track record of industry leadership over the past 17 years was made possible by our consumers’ continued loyalty and trust in our products,” said Cheolgi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to pave the path to create the most premium device experiences that go beyond premium picture quality.”

Samsung’s leadership in the TV market for 17 consecutive years is a testament to the company’s commitment to providing the most innovative products with consumer-centric designs and upgraded user experiences. The launch of the Bordeaux TV in 2006 marked the mainstream adoption of LCD TVs with sophisticated designs and light-weight form factor. It was also the first time for Samsung to rank number one in the global television market. The company continued to bring groundbreaking technologies to consumers by launching its first LED TV in 2009 and its first Smart TV in 2011, holding the top position in the market throughout each of those launches and thereafter.

Samsung continued to push the boundaries of picture quality and innovation by introducing products with the latest technologies. In 2017, Samsung defined the term “next-generation display” by unveiling the first QLED TV, which utilized cadmium-free quantum dot technology to achieve 100 percent colour volume[2] for the first time in the industry. In 2018, the company launched the groundbreaking QLED 8K, followed by the Quantum Mini LED-backed Neo QLED and the self-illuminating MICRO LED in 2021. This collection of innovative technologies redefined the standard for TV picture quality and continued to set new industry benchmarks with each launch.

In addition, Samsung has been at the forefront of pioneering new categories such as the Lifestyle series. Starting with the iconic design of The Serif in 2016, Samsung has continued to evolve its product lineup with designs to enhance the user experience through products such as The Frame, The Sero, The Terrace, The Premiere and The Freestyle.

In 2023, Samsung’s commitment to innovation continues with the development of intuitive technology designed to meet the needs of consumers. SmartThings will enable seamless integration and connectivity of multiple compatible devices with security remaining a top priority, empowering consumers to create deeply personalized experiences that accommodate their unique preferences and needs.

This year, Samsung takes it one step further in its ever-evolving journey to simplify consumers’ everyday lives with seamless multi-device integration across its entire ecosystem through its smart home platform SmartThings.

“In 2023, we are pushing boundaries of innovation to offer consumers more than just premium picture quality, but a holistic, premium device experience tailored to what they need and want out of their connected home,” said Cheolgi Kim, EVP of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “With SmartThings, our advanced technology is seamless and intuitive, making life more sustainable, accessible and enjoyable every day.”

Premium and Connected Experiences with Neo QLED

Samsung’s latest suite of Neo QLED 8K and 4K televisions provide consumers with premium options that suit their every need. Neo QLED picture quality is powered by Samsung’s advanced Neural Quantum Processor which supports the Quantum Mini LED-lit TV with 14-bit processing and AI upscaling, enabling features such as Shape Adaptive Light Control and Real Depth Enhancer Pro for a three-dimensional, lifelike picture.

Samsung’s 2023 Neo QLEDs also go beyond just a clear picture with a high-resolution panel and Samsung’s proprietary algorithm that power Samsung’s new Auto HDR Remastering. It uses AI deep learning technology to analyze and apply real-time High Dynamic Range (HDR) effects on Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) content on a scene-by-scene basis, making SDR content brighter and livelier for absolute immersion.

In addition, SmartThings users no longer need to purchase a separate SmartThings dongle to connect and control Zigbee and Thread devices. In 2023, the SmartThings Zigbee & Matter Thread One-Chip Module will be built directly into Samsung products. And for the ultimate connected device experience, SmartThings automatically syncs devices for easier control of not just Samsung devices, but also third-party compatible appliances and IoT devices[1] for seamless connection.

3D Map View: Designed to let users conveniently control and monitor connected devices, Samsung’s 3D Map View provides users a bird’s eye view of their home and all of their SmartThings devices at-a-glance.

Broadening Viewing Options with MICRO LED and Samsung OLED

Thanks to its modular nature, MICRO LED is not bound by shape, ratio and size, making it completely customizable to fit a consumer’s desired set up. In addition, it comes without bezels so regardless of configuration, the boundary between screen and real life is seamless.

And to provide consumers with even more viewing options, Samsung’s 2023 OLED lineup is now available in 55, 65 and the new ultra-large 77-inch models.

Samsung Electronics today announced that it had reaffirmed its position as a top-five brand in Interbrand’s Best Global Brands 2021. Interbrand, a global consulting firm, evaluates businesses’ brand value based on a comprehensive analysis of multiple factors including financial performance, brand influence on purchase and brand competitiveness.

According to the Best Global Brands list announced by Interbrand on October 20 (local time), Samsung ranked fifth with a brand value of USD 74.6 billion, a 20% increase compared to last year. On the back of its strong financial performance —which has recovered to reach pre-pandemic levels — the company’s brand value surged by 20% this year, twice the average brand value growth rate among the top 100 brands in 2021.

Since entering the top five for the first time last year, Samsung has maintained its position for two consecutive years with its largest increase in brand value since 2013.

According to Interbrand, major factors that played a critical role in the growth of Samsung include:

Its transition to a customer-centric management system, highlighted by the establishment of a new CX (customer experience) team dedicated to prioritizing customer experience and values

Its ongoing efforts for sustainable development, including various campaigns guided by its CSR vision, ‘Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People,’ as well as company-wide initiatives that promote sustainability such as the use of eco-packaging for TVs and the Galaxy Upcycling program

The launches of innovative products including the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, Neo QLEDs and the Bespoke lineup of home appliances

Technology leadership as a solid number one in the Memory market and the launches of innovative System LSI products

Leading the development of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, automotive and robotics through consistent investment

“It is very encouraging to see Samsung Electronics reach the top five in the world last year and then achieve enormous double-digit growth this year — our biggest leap in brand value since 2013,” said YH Lee, CMO of Samsung Electronics. “We promise to leverage our customer-centric management model to keep listening to our customers. This is how we will repay the massive support we have received from customers around the globe.”

Meanwhile, on October 12, Samsung was also ranked No.1 by Forbes as the World’s Best Employers 2021 for the second consecutive year. As a global organization with employees and businesses around the world, Samsung has once again been chosen as the number one employer.

Each year, Forbes surveys around 150,000 employees from 58 countries working for businesses with operations in multiple nations or regions, and this year asked respondents to rank their satisfaction with their employers’ COVID-19 responses and score their employers on image, economic footprint, talent development, gender equality and social responsibility.

As we recognize Earth Day 2021, Samsung Electronics Canada continues to focus on sustainability and prioritize its environment efforts across the business.

Earlier this year, Samsung unveiled its 2021 TV product portfolio at a virtual First Look event and detailed long-term sustainability programs, which include solar cell-powered remote controls and the reduction of product carbon footprints with recycled materials.

Here are three key ways that Samsung is making a difference with its TV innovations.

1. Sustainable Packaging Design

Samsung is expanding its award-winning “eco-packaging” design to all 2021 Lifestyle TVs and most of the 2021 Neo QLED line. By minimizing text and graphic imagery on the eco-packaging, the traditional oil-based ink from colour printing is eliminated, further reducing waste. The special cardboard boxes are designed to allow consumers to upcycle the packaging their televisions come in into small, versatile pieces of furniture. The thick, corrugated cardboard that the packaging is comprised of can be used to construct small tables and shelves, and building instructions can be accessed by scanning QR codes on the outsides of the boxes.

2. Solar Cell-Powered Remote Control

Samsung’s 2021 Neo QLEDs will come with a new solar cell-powered remote control that can be recharged through indoor and outdoor lighting in addition to a regular USB accessory. The remote makes it easy to control all your external devices and lets you show your support for the environment at the same time. In addition, the remote is partially made from recycled materials and is powered by solar cell technology so it can also be charged by your indoor lights.

3. Reduction of Carbon Footprints

Samsung is making efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions related to its TV products with the use of recycled plastics. Samsung has long used recycled materials in the rear covers of monitors and signage and now plans to expand their usage to even more components across the company’s product portfolio.
