Triage Kiosk wins Samsung Canada’s 2022/23 Solve for Tomorrow Contest

The winning team was recognized for their innovative STEM-based solution that solves long queues in emergency departments.

 

 

 

Samsung Canada today announced the winners of the 2022/23 Solve for Tomorrow Contest, an annual competition that challenges Canadian youth aged 16 to 25 to create STEM-based solutions, which will have a meaningful impact on their local communities.

 

The grand prize winner, Triage Kiosk, was recognized by the Solve for Tomorrow panel of expert judges for their innovative idea to reduce ER triage wait times through a Samsung powered kiosk. The team will take home $20,000 in cash, along with Samsung technology worth $8,333*, to further bring their solution to life.

 

“We are incredibly grateful for the empowering opportunity to ‘Solve for Tomorrow’, and receive recognition for our initiative,” said team members of Triage Kiosk, “Winning this prize money means we will be able to build Triage Kiosk to streamline the triage process, improve allocation of resources and decrease ER wait times.”

 

“This year’s Solve for Tomorrow Contest truly raised the bar and brought forward a new calibre of exceptional ideas, creativity, and innovation from Canadian youth,” said Jennifer Groh, Senior Director, Corporate Marketing and Citizenship, Samsung Canada. “We are thrilled to celebrate Triage Kiosk for their innovative idea, which is a testament to the purpose of this contest: fostering change in our communities.”

 

The second and third place prize winners, Team RadiCalgary and Team Beedie Bright, respectively, were also recognized for their innovative solutions. RadiCalgary presented an idea to improve the availability of basic hygiene with mobile hygiene units and Beedie Bright proposed innovative dash cams using recycled Samsung phones and sustainable materials. The second and third place winners will each receive $2,500 in cash  as well as Samsung technology valued at $8,333* to further support their projects.

 

“We are thankful that Samsung has provided us with the opportunity to showcase our idea,” said team members of RadiCalgary. “We are confident that our innovative mobile hygiene unit will successfully bring dignity to people experiencing poverty in Calgary.”

 

“Placing top three in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow challenge means a lot for us,” said team members of Beedie Bright. “It validates the hard work and dedication we put into this challenge in trying to create a feasible, practical, and meaningful solution to help Canadians.”

 

The first, second and third place winners were selected from over 100 Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest entries.
