The new feature introduces a Trip timeline that brings all travel-related plans together in a single view, adding structure to busy itineraries and providing a smoother journey from start to finish. When users add eligible items to Samsung Wallet, Trips groups them together based on factors such as time and location, helping travelers keep itineraries in one place despite details coming from different sources.   

Users can manage a range of travel-related experiences, including bookings such as hotels, flight itineraries, car rentals and excursions — as well as tickets for buses, trains, theme parks and sporting events. Trips also supports the ability to manually add itinerary items and include memos alongside saved items to capture key reminders, plans and notes throughout the journey.

Trips underscores Samsung’s ongoing commitment to evolving Samsung Wallet into a more helpful companion in everyday life. Over time, the company will continue to expand Samsung Wallet by adding new features and partner experiences, making it even easier for Samsung Galaxy users to access and manage the essentials they rely on, including while traveling.

These recognitions reflect the impact of Samsung’s efforts to reverse the decline of coral reefs in partnership with U.S.-based nonprofit organization Seatrees and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego. By bringing together Galaxy’s advanced image capturing capabilities, Seatrees’ community-driven restoration model and Scripps’ knowledge on marine science, Samsung is transforming Galaxy mobile phones into powerful tools for ocean conservation.

Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor yet support approximately 25% of all marine life and sustain millions of livelihoods worldwide.² Without intervention, many reefs are at risk of disappearing by 2050 due to climate change, pollution and overfishing.

To help address this challenge, Samsung collaborated with Seatrees and Scripps to advance coral reef restoration across a growing network of sites in Costa Rica, Fiji, the Galápagos Islands, Indonesia and the United States.

Through the “Samsung x Seatrees: Bring Coral in Focus” initiative, partners and local communities are given Ocean Mode-equipped Galaxy devices and underwater housings to capture high-quality underwater imagery with Ocean Mode, which is then used to generate detailed 3D photogrammetric models. This process improves how coral reefs are monitored and evaluated, resulting in critical insight into reef health and recovery.

Together, Samsung, Seatrees and Scripps have driven meaningful impact across restoration sites. To date, more than 20,000 coral fragments have been planted, and over 80 3D reef models have been built to support monitoring and research efforts.

Now available through Expert RAW,³ Ocean Mode extends these capabilities to Galaxy users, making advanced underwater imaging⁴ available to more people while reducing reliance on expensive, heavy DSLR equipment. This increased accessibility is critical to scaling coral reef monitoring efforts, particularly in regions where resources and technical infrastructure may be limited.

The journey continues with Unfold Your Story, where an expressive spectrum of color across Samsung’s foldables illustrate diverse lifestyles and individual identities.

In the Wearable Intelligence and Culinary Intelligence zones, the company highlights concepts supporting physical and emotional well-being — from wearables to AI-powered culinary experiences.

At the center of the exhibition, The Forum hosts discussions alongside video clips highlighting the perspectives of Samsung’s design leaders. Nearby, the XR Experience zone — powered by Android XR — invites visitors to expand their world through Galaxy XR.

The exhibition then unfolds into two contrasting audio-visual zones. Transparent Symphony features Samsung’s transparent Micro LED displays, dissolving physical boundaries and blending seamlessly into the environment.

All That Music brings together speakers, screens and audio-visual concepts — including Music Studio 5 and 7 — where sound and visuals come together in harmony, evoking a sense of analog emotion. Across both spaces, a full spectrum of design languages emerges — from minimal and refined to bold, iconic and colorful — each offering a different interpretation of Expressive Design, reflecting the diversity of the people Samsung designs for.

In both environments, AI generates content that adapts to the space, the music and the moment, offering everything from immersive atmospheres to information, and even the presence of a companion behind the scenes.

In Two Expressions of the Same Technology, two design archetypes of a 130-inch Micro RGB display are presented. Built on the same breakthrough technology, they show how performance and individuality can coexist.

Artful Living, conceived like a gallery, features the S95H OLED TV with Music Frame+. Here, screens bring art and content to life as storytellers of personality, meaning and emotion. Beyond the screen, customizable frames can transform the TV to adapt to different homes, tastes and interior styles — celebrating the beauty of one of the thinnest OLED displays on the market and enhancing its floating, artistic presence.

In A Glimpse of Tomorrow, visitors explore a future shaped by design and technology. The zone reflects Samsung’s human-centered design approach, offering a sense of what lies ahead.

The experience concludes with The Goodbye Show, where Project Luna AI home device greets visitors one last time. This short, emotional yet playful finale — light, colorful and unapologetically pop — doesn’t take itself too seriously. It reminds visitors that technology is not just about performance, but about feeling — designed to surprise, connect and leave them with warmth and a smile.

Technology That Complements the Experience

In hospitality, technology works best when it feels like a natural extension of the stay. At The Apurva Kempinski Bali, Samsung Hospitality TVs add a modern digital layer to an experience defined by warmth and detail.

“Working with Samsung has been an outstanding experience,” said Zakaria. “From consultation and technical setup to post-installation support, every step was guided with clarity and care.”

Since 2020, Generation17 has supported Young Leaders worldwide with Samsung Galaxy technology, mentorship and networking opportunities to amplify their stories and solutions.

A snorkeling trip as a teenager off the island of Nusa Penida in Indonesia changed everything for Brigitta Gunawan. The reef was dense with life, fish weaving through coral in extraordinary colors. It was like nothing she had ever seen. Back on shore, one thought stayed with her: most people would never experience this.

Brigitta grew up in Jakarta, an inland industrial city far from reefs, but had always felt drawn to the water. She even took her first steps on a beach in Bali. After a snorkeling trip to Nusa Penida, that connection became something else: a sense of responsibility.

According to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), warming oceans, pollution and overfishing have put coral reefs on a devastating trajectory, with up to 90% projected to disappear by 2050. Coral reefs, found in more than 100 countries, are among the most important ecosystems in the ocean — supporting marine life, protecting coastlines and sustaining the communities that depend on them. Globally, more than one billion people depend on healthy oceans for their livelihoods.

“We’re going to lose so much in such a short amount of time,” Brigitta says. “I decided that there’s something that I can do.”

Turning a Hashtag Into a Movement

In 2021, at 17, she launched 30×30 Indonesia, named after the global effort to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030. The target, backed by the UN’s Global Goals for climate action (Goal 13) and life below water (Goal 14), is seen as critical to preserving marine ecosystems. She began simply, with a hashtag and a call for people to submit photos holding signs of support. In the first month, over 400 photos poured in, many from schools and youth groups who had never heard of the 2030 target before.

“I had absolutely no experience,” Brigitta says, crediting early mentors. “I just enjoyed going out there and slowly building what it is today.”

Soon, Brigitta expanded beyond social media. Working with a local diving community and village leaders in northeast Bali, she helped design and build a coral garden on the ocean floor — an artificial structure where coral fragments are planted to help degraded reefs recover, even as oceans continue to warm. Over the past five years, her team has planted over 1,400 coral fragments, with a survival rate of up to 86%.

Technology Bringing the Ocean to Everyone

As her coral restoration work grew, a deeper challenge nagged at Brigitta: most people would never set foot in the sea, let alone see a reef in person. “It’s important for people to see the ocean so that they know why we have to save it,” she says.

In 2024, she launched Diverseas, a free education program that uses 360-degree underwater filming to bring reefs into classrooms, supporting the UN’s Global Goal for quality education (Goal 4). Brigitta partners with grassroots conservation organizations worldwide to capture footage. Students slip on headsets and suddenly find themselves beneath the surface, surrounded by coral and other marine life.

Students who live inland have never seen these underwater scenes; by fostering ocean literacy, Brigitta is calling for collective action to protect biodiversity.

Diverseas has since reached more than 20,000 people across 12 countries through workshops, online courses, diver training scholarships, conferences and events. Its focus on immersive ocean literacy makes the undersea world feel real, and worth protecting.

For Brigitta, the goal now is to reach more communities around the world and to continue restoring reefs across Indonesia.

The Next Wave of Ocean Advocates

In coral reef restoration, where the numbers on reef loss can feel overwhelming, Brigitta believes staying optimistic is essential. “For young people, giving up is not an option,” she says. “We have to remain hopeful.”

And the best place to build that hope? The classroom, both physical and virtual. “I believe education is so powerful,” she says. “If you do it right, you inspire young people who become the policymakers of the future.”

Rethinking 3D Displays With Metasurfaces

A metasurface lenticular lens-based switchable 2D/3D display uses an ultra-thin metalens¹ composed of nanoscale structures to transition seamlessly between flat (2D) and stereoscopic (3D) images.

A metasurface is significantly thinner while enabling complex optical functions — making it key to next-generation displays and camera systems.

This approach advances Light Field Display by directing light from multiple angles to create a glasses-free 3D experience that mimics real-world perception.

Though long considered promising for entertainment, augmented reality (AR) and medical imaging, conventional Light Field Displays face commercialization challenges, including bulky optics, narrow viewing angles (around 15 degrees), reduced resolution and reliance on real-time eye tracking.

The research team addressed these limitations using polarization — the direction in which light oscillates — to design a metasurface lenticular lens (MLL) that dynamically adjusts focal properties.

Switching Between 2D and 3D

The study is the first to demonstrate a meta-optical system capable of switching between 2D and 3D modes in a single device using voltage control. For end users, it’s a breakthrough that could eventually enable them to choose between high-resolution 2D for everyday tasks and immersive, multi-view 3D for video.

The system switches the metalens between concave and convex modes depending on the polarization controller in front of the display. For 2D viewing — such as reading or browsing — the metalens acts as a concave lens (controller on), offsetting the convex lens and allowing light to pass straight through like a flat pane of glass to produce a clear image.

For 3D content, the metalens becomes convex when the controller is off and works with the existing lens to enhance depth and widen the viewing angle. Through this, it can provide both the clarity of 2D and the depth of 3D simultaneously.

Thinner Design, Wider Viewing Angles

A major achievement of this research is the dramatic improvement in both thickness and viewing angle. Traditionally, high image quality and a wide viewing angle required large, thick lenses. The team’s MLL, however, features a high numerical aperture (NA)² — enabling an ultra-thin profile of 1.2 mm and an ultra-wide viewing angle of up to 100 degrees. This represents more than a sixfold increase from the conventional 15-degree viewing angle, allowing multiple viewers to experience 3D content from different positions. It also demonstrates how nanoscale design can overcome the limitations of bulky optical systems.

A Step Closer to Commercialization

Beyond a simple proof of concept, the research demonstrates the practical viability of integrating metalens technology into real-world devices. The team fabricated a large-area metalens measuring 50 × 50 mm (25 cm²) and validated its use on OLED panels widely used in mobile devices.

This research was conducted in collaboration with the Visual Technology Team at Samsung Research, Samsung Electronics, and the POSTECH Nanoscale Photonics & Integrated Manufacturing Laboratory.

Looking ahead, this technology has the potential to reshape next-generation displays across smartphones, tablets and commercial systems.

From optical design and fabrication to real-time switching validation, Samsung and POSTECH have broken through a technological barrier. With the publication in Nature, Samsung further strengthens its leadership in meta-optics and next-generation display technologies.

Samsung Electronics today unveiled three new kitchen appliances — the Bespoke AI Single 1Door Fridge & Freezer, Bespoke AI Dishwasher and Extractor Induction Hob. Developed under a design philosophy that prioritizes seamless integration and intelligent performance, the lineup brings enhancements across cooling, cooking, ventilation and dish care.

“With this lineup, we’re strengthening Samsung’s position in the premium kitchen by combining seamless design with purposeful intelligence,” said Hyoung Min Park, VP and Head of the Customer Experience Team for the Digital Appliances (DA) Business at Samsung Electronics. “From AI-driven cooling to adaptive dish care and integrated extraction, these appliances are engineered to respond to real usage patterns, helping people create kitchens that are both refined and responsive.”

Precision Cooling and Seamless Access for Modern Kitchens

Bespoke AI Single 1Door Fridge & Freezer offer flexible options to suit different storage needs. The two units can be used together as a coordinated pair or selected individually to expand refrigeration or freezing capacity as required.

They also emphasize usability and seamless design integration. Auto Open Door provides effortless access with a light touch.¹ A built-in touch sensor enables smooth opening, supported by a sensor light for improved visibility and an alert sound when activated. The refrigerator maintains a seamless, flat-front appearance without a handle that naturally aligns with surrounding cabinetry.

Additionally, the fridge introduces enhanced cooling functionality designed to improve freshness management. AI Precise Cooling on the SmartThings App² automatically adjusts the defrost cycle to help maintain consistent internal conditions. The system analyzes usage patterns and schedules defrosting to run when the doors are not opened frequently,³ helping reduce temperature fluctuations and preserve taste, texture and freshness of food over time.

Further, Metal Cooling independently supports temperature stability by retaining cold air and restoring internal temperatures more quickly after the door is opened. Compared with conventional models that have featured a half-sized metal duct on the rear wall, the new model incorporates a full metal duct design across both the rear wall and the door surface.⁴ This expanded structure lowers temperature changes and supports more stable cooling performance.

Energy Efficient Dishwashers With Intelligent Cleaning Performance

The Bespoke AI Dishwasher lineup is designed to address varying energy standards and lifestyle needs across global markets. The range includes A-20%,⁵ A-10%,⁶ A and even B-Grade models in Europe.⁷ For models with the extra energy savings than the Grade A energy rating, an Active Fan Dry system⁸ improves drying efficiency by enhancing internal air circulation and lowering rinse water temperature to reduce heating⁹ demand.

To accommodate different kitchen layouts, the product is available in Fully Built-In, Free-Standing, Semi Built-In and Built-Under types,¹⁰ supporting both integrated cabinetry environments and more traditional kitchen configurations. This enables flexible deployment according to regional requirements and consumer priorities.

Cleaning performance is driven by AI Wash,¹¹ which uses a high-resolution turbidity sensor and machine learning algorithm to measure food particles at each stage of the cycle. Based on this analysis, the system automatically adjusts washing and rinsing times to effectively remove stubborn residue — without the need for pre-rinsing.

The upgraded,¹² space-saving 3rd Rack Washing System further enhances flexibility by providing dedicated zones for cutlery, utensils and drinkware. The drinkware section accommodates up to six cups and is supported by six spinning nozzles for targeted spray coverage. This configuration improves loading efficiency and frees up space in other racks,¹³ enabling better overall organization.

Durable Surface and High-Efficiency Ventilation in One Integrated Appliance

The Extractor Induction Hob integrates the induction cooktop and extractor hood into a single appliance. This makes it particularly suitable for open-plan kitchens and island installations where installing a conventional hood may be challenging. By capturing steam and odors¹⁴ at the source, it helps maintain cleaner air while preserving the openness of modern kitchen spaces.

Even with cooking and ventilation combined in a single unit, it preserves the distinct performance strengths of both functions. Its cooking surface incorporates Samsung’s Anti-Scratch Glass with a Mohs hardness rating of 8,¹⁵ helping resist visible scratches¹⁶ that arise during everyday use. A superhydrophobic coating reduces residue buildup to support easier cleaning, while the matte finish reinforces a refined, modern aesthetic suited to contemporary interiors.

Beyond surface durability, cooking flexibility is also enhanced by Flex Zone Plus, a wide, open cooking area designed to accommodate multiple or larger cookware at the same time. Featuring denser heating¹⁷ elements for more even heat distribution, it supports a variety of cookware shapes and sizes, including longer or oversized dishes.¹⁸ The surface automatically detects¹⁹ the position and size of cookware to activate heating precisely where needed, helping ensure consistent cooking performance.

Ventilation performance is equally impressive. In Boost mode, suction of up to 720 m³/h²⁰ effectively captures steam, smoke and odors at the source. Despite its strong airflow capability, the system achieves A+ energy efficiency,²¹ balancing performance with energy-conscious operation. By integrating cooking and ventilation into one appliance, the Extractor Induction Hob removes the need for a separate hood and supports a more open, streamlined kitchen layout.

Maintenance is simplified through a dishwasher-safe Easy Clean Grease Filter. The stainless-steel filter²² delivers A-grade 95% filtration efficiency²³ to capture oil and grease, while an integrated charcoal filter helps reduce odors and gases. Together, these elements sustain consistent ventilation performance with minimal upkeep.

Previously, connecting IKEA devices to SmartThings required an IKEA smart home hub³ and SmartThings hub, but they can now be connected directly to SmartThings hub. They also work with Samsung appliances including TVs, air conditioners and washing machines, as well as a wide range of third-party devices and protocols supported by the platform.

Smarter Care — From Checking on Loved Ones To Optimizing Sleep Environments

Users can connect an IKEA door sensor to SmartThings and attach it to a frequently used door to monitor when their parents start their day and whether they are active at home through SmartThings Family Care. This offers a convenient way to check on loved ones, even when living apart.

Installed on a wall, IKEA’s air quality sensors and its temperature and humidity sensors collect data on temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide levels and light intensity. SmartThings compares these readings with recommended ranges for optimal sleep and provides a Sleep environment report with actionable insights — such as lowering the temperature to 19-21°C — helping create an ideal bedroom environment.

Users can also set routines that activate the air conditioner’s dehumidification mode when rising humidity is detected. If the water leak sensor detects moisture, it sends an immediate alert enabling a prompt response.

Intuitive Control With the Scroll Wheel Remote

Ahead of launch, Samsung and IKEA conducted multiple rounds of validation to enhance connectivity stability and implemented a dedicated user experience within the SmartThings app for full compatibility.

A standout device is the scroll wheel remote, which significantly enhances user experience. When connected to lighting, users can precisely adjust brightness and color temperature by rotating the wheel, making it easy to create the desired ambiance. It can also be used for devices requiring fine control, such as blinds.⁴ It targets the design-conscious younger generation, who prioritizes aesthetic value in every detail, down to a single switch or lighting.

Expanding a Boundless Smart Home Ecosystem With Early Adoption of Thread

Samsung is not only leading the Matter ecosystem through the rapid adoption of new standards, but also demonstrating strong technology leadership in the smart home market.

SmartThings was the first to adopt Thread⁵ 1.4 — a low-power, short-range networking technology essential for smart home ecosystems — enabling Thread networks across brands to operate as a single unified system that enhances user convenience while helping drive the wider adoption of smart homes.

Conceived as an open laboratory, the exhibition welcomes visitors to Samsung’s design approach, offering a space of exploration, experimentation and discovery. Rather than a finished statement, the exhibition reflects a moment within an ongoing journey, offering an early glimpse into how Samsung is shaping new ways of living through design.

Each of the 12 immersive zones presents a distinct exploration of how design can shape everyday life. The zones are organized around the key experience dimensions of Human Centricity and Expressive Design, which serve as the first touchpoint in showcasing Samsung Design’s vision.

Human-Centricity and Expressive Design

Samsung Design is expanding its approach beyond user experience, with a greater focus on how people live and experience everyday life.

Samsung Electronics has launched the “Raise the Bar” campaign in the U.K., partnering with former England international football player, Joe Cole to support local pubs with upgraded TV technology ahead of a major summer of football. The initiative aims to enhance the match-day viewing experience by providing selected venues with Samsung TVs and promotional support, helping them attract more customers during a critical trading period.

The campaign was developed in response to research highlighting the importance of high-quality TV setups in pubs. A large majority of U.K. pub owners identified premium viewing technology as essential for increasing revenue during major sporting events, but rising operational costs and financial pressures have made it difficult for many venues to invest in upgrades, leaving TV systems outdated.

“Local pubs are at the heart of our communities, especially when it comes to football. There’s nothing like watching a big game at the pub surrounded by mates — and the atmosphere makes all the difference,” said Cole. “A quality TV setup is crucial to that experience, keeping everyone in the moment. This initiative is about giving local pubs the tools they need to bring people together and create unforgettable match-day memories.”

Consumer behavior supports this need. Many football fans in the U.K. continue to watch major tournaments at pubs, valuing the shared, community-driven atmosphere. Viewing quality plays a decisive role in venue selection, with a significant proportion of customers prioritizing pubs equipped with high-performance screens and audio systems. Poor viewing experiences can lead to lost business, as most customers indicate they would leave the venue if the TV quality were inadequate.

Samsung’s campaign addresses these challenges by offering a nationwide voting process in which customers can nominate their local pubs for a technology upgrade. Eleven venues are shortlisted, with ten receiving Samsung TVs and marketing support, while one final winner is awarded a larger-scale transformation, including an advanced TV setup and additional promotional investment.

By equipping pubs with Samsung’s latest TV technology, the initiative will deliver a more immersive and reliable viewing experience for football fans. Enhanced Family Care Makes It Easier To Check In on Loved Ones

Family Care connects SmartThings with a range of home appliances and mobile devices to provide notifications regarding the activities of users’ aging parents and reminders for medication and hospital visits — as well as location-based alerts. With this update, the service enables even more thoughtful care.

Additionally, Samsung’s new Care on Call¹ feature allows users to more closely check on the status of the care recipient through a simple phone call. When a caregiver using the service calls the care recipient, a floating pop-up that displays key information like the time of the first activity of the day, the most recent activity time and the local weather — all at a glance — appears before the call begins. This helps caregivers ask more meaningful check-in questions and respond accordingly.

SmartThings can also continuously monitor devices like air conditioners, air purifiers, dehumidifiers and humidifiers for indoor temperature, humidity and air quality. If unusual usage patterns are detected, the caregiver is immediately notified and can remotely control the relevant device.²

Family Care has made the Safety Patrol feature — which utilizes SmartThings to send a new Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra to check various areas around the house — even more convenient. If the care recipient’s activity is not detected for a specified period of time, users receive a notification and the feature can be remotely activated if the caregiver needs to take action.³ Using a camera built into the robot vacuum, caregivers can view issues that might occur — such as a person lying incapacitated — and two-way communication through the built-in speaker and microphone allows them to act.

To further enhance the level of care provided to loved ones, the Care Insight feature been enhanced to provide even more actionable, long-term data within the Family Care service. It analyzes factors like temperature and humidity levels, paying attention to whether they deviate from optimal ranges. It also tracks significant changes in activity levels and connected device usage compared to the previous week.

Expansion of Now Brief to TVs and Family Hub

Now Brief delivers a rich AI experience by integrating a broad range of key SmartThings services that help users stay informed about their daily lives, their family members and conditions inside and outside the home.

With the launch of the Galaxy S26 series, Now Brief will support Home Security, Family Care and Pet Care, in addition to existing features that include Home Insight, Energy and the Sleep Environment Report. Through Now Brief, users can access the useful information needed to care for themselves, their families and their homes at a glance.

 Now Brief is set to deliver a consistent customized experience throughout the home,⁴ and will soon roll out in phases to TVs launched in 2024 or later, as well as Family Hub refrigerators launched in 2021 or later.

For added convenience, users will not need to manually launch Now Brief. If the feature is set up in advance, it will be automatically activated when they approach the TV, touch the Family Hub refrigerator screen or open and close the refrigerator door.

And now, whether at home or on the go, the expanded Now Brief helps users stay up to date by providing information such as home device status and energy usage, as well as the sleep status of the previous night, Home Security updates based on door locks, door sensors, and security mode, parents’ daily activity updates and dog-walking information.⁵

Advancing Picture Innovation Across Premium Displays

Samsung continues to expand its leadership in display innovation with its 2026 lineup. At the seminar, the company is showcasing its latest Micro RGB technology, delivering highly precise color control, deeper contrast and a more immersive visual experience.

Powered by the Micro RGB AI Engine Pro, the display continuously refines color and contrast in real time. It also achieves 100% color coverage of BT.2020, demonstrating highly accurate and lifelike color expression. Why APV

Codecs may be unfamiliar to many consumers, but they act as invisible engines shaping the user experience. Think of a suitcase — how you pack it determines how much it holds and how easily you can find what you need. Likewise, an efficient codec enables a user to store more high-quality video while improving playback and editing.

Video falls into two categories — casual video, everyday clips we capture and share, and professional video for cinema-grade editing. While casual codecs prioritize compression efficiency, professional codecs must preserve image quality and reproduce colors with precision. Just as overpacking a suitcase can damage or distort its contents, professional video requires a robust codec that preserves every detail.

Conventional compression makes it difficult to fully enable mobile post-production — including color grading, where creators apply precise tones to match their artistic vision, and visual effects (VFX). APV was designed to support the entire workflow from capture to final edit while preserving detail even after multiple rounds of recompression.

Reducing Complexity Without Compromise

The biggest technical challenge was reducing complexity. Conventional professional codecs focus on image quality, making them computationally demanding and limiting use to high-end hardware. The goal was to achieve a low-complexity design that mobile processors could handle in real time without compromising quality.

To address this, Samsung introduced lightweight entropy coding¹ to reduce computational load and frame tiling² that enables parallel encoding and decoding across multiple cores. As a result, APV supports real-time processing of up to 8K video on mobile phones while maintaining image quality with minimal loss, even after multiple edits.

Building an Open Ecosystem for All

The value of technology lies in how widely it is used. Samsung chose to build an open ecosystem where anyone can adopt and advance the technology. It’s like sharing a great recipe — leading to even better results.

In February 2026, Samsung published APV through the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as RFC 9924, establishing it as a de facto global standard. The company also released the full source code on GitHub under the name “OpenAPV,” enabling developers worldwide to participate and contribute.

This openness is driving ecosystem growth and accelerating adoption. The APV codec is supported in Android 16, while the open-source tool FFmpeg and post-production software DaVinci Resolve have also added support.

This progress was driven by Samsung’s global research collaboration. After Samsung Research (SR) led early development, teams across Samsung Research America (SRA), Samsung R&D Institute India-Bangalore (SRI-B), Samsung R&D Institute Poland (SRPOL) and Samsung R&D Institute Japan (SRJ) worked closely together. Their efforts led to a key milestone in October 2023, when APV was unveiled at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC). In August 2024, Samsung joined the Academy Software Foundation (ASWF) to support the open-source video ecosystem.

To bring the technology to mobile phones, the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business spearheaded product integration. Close collaboration between MX and SR optimized performance for mobile. In February 2026, Samsung equipped Galaxy S26 Ultra with APV — the first Android phone to support the codec.

The collaboration merges Samsung’s technological innovation with DOMINNICO’s contemporary vision to redefine the relationship between structure, functionality and everyday wear. It features metal eyelets, functional pockets and device-inspired charms, with subtle references to Galaxy S26 Ultra and Galaxy Buds4 Pro. These elements demonstrate how mobile technology can extend beyond devices to influence design and lifestyle, highlighting the growing intersection between fashion and technology.

Featured looks include a structured white leather vest and mini skirt set, a versatile beige trench coat and a relaxed bomber jacket paired with a pencil skirt. The trench coat incorporates design cues inspired by the Galaxy S26 Ultra camera module, while other pieces feature details referencing Galaxy Buds4 Pro. Accessories such as a black leather belt with a dedicated smartphone pocket and a baguette bag in leather and denim reinforce the collection’s practical focus. Materials include leather, denim and twill, creating a cohesive wardrobe designed for daily use.

The capsule collection forms part of DOMINNICO’s Soft Armor Fall 2026 line, which explores the concept of “protected vulnerability” through garments designed as purposeful second skins. The runway presentation of the collection at 080 Barcelona Fashion featured notable personalities and included participation from content creator Lucía de la Puerta — a member of Samsung’s #TeamGalaxy — further connecting the collaboration to Samsung’s broader creative ecosystem.

Samsung Electronics has introduced a new art collection on Samsung Art Store in collaboration with the Maria Prymachenko Foundation, bringing the works of one of Ukraine’s most celebrated artists to a global audience. The collection is now available to users of Samsung Art TVs, allowing them to display Prymachenko’s distinctive and imaginative paintings in their homes.

Maria Prymachenko’s work is recognized for its vivid imagery, deep connection to nature and strong ties to Ukrainian traditions. Her paintings often depict fantastical animals, vibrant flowers and symbolic scenes that convey themes of hope, resilience and the triumph of good over evil. Rooted in personal and cultural heritage, her art reflects family life, craftsmanship and the preservation of traditions across generations.

The collection includes a curated selection of 12 works that highlight different aspects of her artistic style. Among them, “My House, My Truth” portrays scenes of domestic life inspired by the artist’s upbringing, illustrating everyday activities such as spinning wool, baking bread and embroidery. Another notable piece, “A Dove Has Spread Her Wings and Asks for Peace,” uses the image of a dove to symbolize peace, protection and optimism — reflecting Prymachenko’s enduring message of hope.

The addition of this collection to Samsung Art Store places Ukrainian art alongside masterpieces from artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Dalí and Basquiat, as well as collections from leading museums worldwide. It also broadens access to cultural heritage and introduces new audiences to Ukraine’s artistic legacy.

Awesome Intelligence: AI for Everyday Tasks

At the core of Galaxy A57 5G and Galaxy A37 5G is Awesome Intelligence¹ — a suite of AI-powered features designed to simplify daily tasks.

One of the most notable additions is Voice Transcription, available on the Galaxy A series for the first time. With the Voice Recorder app, users can record audio, convert speech to text and translate it across multiple languages² — making it easier to review meetings, revisit lectures or organize recorded calls.

Circle to Search with Google,³ a Galaxy fan favorite feature, continues to expand and now allows multiple objects to be identified at once. For example, when users spot a look they love, information about each object — from tops to footwear — can be found in one search by simply circling an outfit on the screen.

AI Select⁴ suggests relevant actions based on on-screen content, such as creating GIFs, saving images or setting wallpapers. The feature is now accessible by long-pressing the Edge Panel.

Users can also move content seamlessly between apps. Multi-Window Drag & Drop, enhanced with AI Select, enables faster multitasking in apps like Samsung Browser and Samsung Notes. For example, images can be dragged directly into Samsung Notes and resized as needed.

The enhanced Object Eraser⁵ removes unwanted elements with improved edge accuracy for clearer, more natural-looking images in fewer edits.

Camera: Clearer Shots From Day to Night

Photography remains central to the Galaxy A series, with camera enhancements that deliver sharp, vivid results in both bright and low-light conditions.

Both models feature a triple rear camera system for greater versatility. A 5MP macro camera captures detailed close-ups, revealing textures that might otherwise go unnoticed. The 12MP ultra-wide camera on Galaxy A57 5G enables broader shots, ideal for landscapes and group photos.

Nightography⁶ has been enhanced to produce brighter, sharper images in low light with more natural color. Improvements are noticeable in cityscapes and street scenes, where noise and distortion are often more visible.

Design: Slim, Light and Refined

The new Galaxy A series features a refined design that balances sleekness with everyday usability.

Galaxy A57 5G introduces a slimmer, lighter form factor at 6.9 mm thick and 179 g — 0.5 mm thinner and 19 g lighter than its predecessor — making it easier to hold while remaining pocket-friendly.

The triple-camera layout creates a cohesive look aligned with the Galaxy design language, enhancing overall polish and precision.

Display improvements further elevate the experience. Galaxy A57 5G features 1.5 mm bezels on the top and sides — reduced by 0.7 mm at the top and 0.5 mm on the sides — for a more immersive viewing experience without increasing device size.

Both models are available in two light and two dark color options. Galaxy A57 5G comes in Awesome Navy, Awesome Gray, Awesome Icyblue and Awesome Lilac,⁷ while Galaxy A37 5G is offered in Awesome Lavender, Awesome Charcoal, Awesome Graygreen and Awesome White.⁸ A premium metal frame of Galaxy A57 5G completes the design, balancing durability and aesthetics.

Samsung Electronics today announced a new 14-meter standard size for its Onyx (ICD model) cinema LED lineup at CinemaCon 2026, expanding the platform into larger premium auditoriums. The new model is designed for Premium Large Format (PLF) theaters and delivers the same picture quality, reliability and scalability that define the Onyx platform at a larger scale.

As cinemas raise the bar on premium, differentiated experiences, larger-format auditoriums are becoming a key priority for exhibitors. Samsung’s new 14-meter format¹ is designed to meet this demand — enabling greater immersion, optimized seating layouts and more efficient use of theater space.

“People go to premium theaters for something they cannot recreate at home,” said Hyoung Jae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. “That raises the bar for every part of the auditorium, starting with the screen. Samsung’s new 14-meter Onyx gives exhibitors a way to bring the premium experience to larger auditoriums, helping turn moviegoing into a destination again.”

Expanding Premium Cinema Experiences With Screens Up to 20 Meters

Since its debut in 2017, Samsung Onyx has broadened what cinema LED can deliver with deep blacks, rich color and striking contrast. Following last year’s launch of the 5-meter model for boutique theaters and the 10-meter model for premium auditoriums,² Samsung is now expanding the lineup with a 14-meter standard size designed for larger theater environments.

The new model brings the same core Onyx experience — including support for up to 4K 120Hz,³ exceptional clarity and ultra-smooth motion — while introducing two distinctions tailored to the 14-meter format:

• 3.3mm pixel pitch: optimized for the 14-meter format to deliver sharp, consistent image quality on a larger screen.
• Flexible scaling support: enables the 14-meter format to expand up to 20 meters — more than doubling total screen area without compromising presentation quality. Individual LED cabinets can be added to the sides and bottom to achieve the desired size, creating a seamless, floor-to-ceiling visual experience.

As the world’s first DCI-certified cinema LED display,⁴ Onyx supports both scope (2.39:1) and flat (1.85:1) aspect ratios. Samsung’s HDR technology delivers peak brightness of up to 300 nits — approximately six times brighter than conventional cinema standards.⁵ Onyx also achieves 100% color volume at peak brightness, while its infinite contrast ratio enables true black levels for deeper immersion and greater detail in dark scenes.

Beyond traditional movie screenings, Onyx is also well-suited for alternative content such as live sports, concerts, gaming events and corporate presentations. Unlike conventional projection-based systems, the Onyx LED screen delivers consistent brightness and image quality regardless of screen size or seating position. Compatibility with Dolby and GDC media servers also helps support streamlined theater management.

Onyx Builds on Global Adoption Across Premium Cinemas

Since launching the latest Onyx lineup (ICD model) last year, Samsung has expanded its presence in premium cinema through growing exhibitor adoption and high-profile installations. One of the latest examples is Pathé Dar Essalam in Rabat, Morocco, where the latest Onyx has been installed as part of a newly developed premium cinema complex in the city’s luxury district.

Designed in collaboration with Pathé’s headquarters, the venue is positioned as a flagship destination comparable to Pathé Palace in Paris, with all four auditoriums equipped with Onyx displays in 10-meter, 5-meter and scaled 6.4-meter configurations. With 12 Onyx screens in total — including four of the latest Onyx screens — Pathé now operates more Onyx screens than any other cinema company in Europe.

Samsung’s momentum with the latest Onyx lineup also extends to the United States. In December 2025, Trilith Cinemas in Fayetteville, Georgia became the first U.S. theater to premiere the latest generation of Samsung Onyx cinema LED screens, installing them across 5 auditoriums. Located in one of the country’s most active production communities, the theater offers audiences a setting that matches the scale, visual detail and creative intent of the production process.

The Swords Athletics became the first Polish running team to participate in The Speed Project relay race, completing the demanding route from Los Angeles to Las Vegas through Death Valley, while equipped with Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy devices. Covering approximately 547 kilometers, the race pushes runners to their limits — with extreme desert temperatures, sleep deprivation and unpredictable terrain — making it one of the most grueling endurance events in the world.

Throughout the race, the six-member team utilized Galaxy Watch Ultra, which tracked key health metrics such as heart rate, pace in real time, even under extreme fatigue. To mark World Health Day (WHD) 2026 on April 7, Samsung Newsroom asked him to detail his data-driven training regime, which embodies this year’s WHD slogan, “Together for health. Stand with science.”

With exclusive access to his Samsung Health metrics, we take an inside look into his grueling training program, which has seen him cover over 100 km in just one week. Discover how insights led him to adjust his training for optimal recovery and how even a “rest day” can include a 3 km run.

Q. Congratulations on your recent world record at the 2026 Lisbon Half Marathon. What’s the secret to your success?

There’s no secret. It’s just about discipline. You have to work hard, be extremely focused, and manage your energy — knowing when to rest and when to push harder. But honestly, the most important part is that you have to really want what you’re working toward. I wouldn’t have broken the world record if I didn’t follow that formula.

Q. You finished second at the 2025 London Marathon and are now preparing to go one step further at this year’s event. What role has your Galaxy Watch8 played in your training?

My coach doesn’t live in Uganda, so my Galaxy Watch8 has basically become his personal assistant here. Even though he’s not with me, he can get real-time analysis and reports on my running form through the Running Analysis feature in Samsung Health. We track my heart rate and pay close attention to my pace for each kilometer. During the harder sessions, I also monitor the asymmetry readings to see if I’m overcompensating on one side so I can avoid strain. Contact time is another key aspect I keep an eye on, making small adjustments to my form to ensure every stride is as efficient as possible. I always try to improve my running economy, so these insights are incredibly helpful.

Q. Looking at your recent Samsung Health data, we can see some clear patterns in your training routine. Tell us about your regime.

Consistency is key, but athletes must not be obsessed with training. What many people don’t realize is that rest is equally as important as physical training. To compete at your best, you need to be able to maximize your energy, and the only way to do that is through consistent rest. But “rest” doesn’t always mean no training. A rest day can mean running 3 km instead of 40 km. You have to be consistent in what you’re doing, but you also need to listen to your body and know when to slow down. Technology can help a lot with this.

Q. Can you give us an example of how a specific insight from the Samsung Health app led you to adapt your training program?

The decision to run 3 km instead of 40 km that I just mentioned was a true story. After experiencing some lingering soreness during a recent 24 km run, I decided to turn what was intended to be a 40 km run into a light 3 km jog to ensure I could recover and have the stamina to get through 40 km another day. The Samsung Health app was very helpful for me here. It kept me informed so I could allow my body to fully recover and prevent a potential injury or burnout.

Q. We’ve seen how a professional runner like yourself uses data to reach their goals. What advice would you give to someone who is just starting their running journey, and how can the Running Coach feature get them on the right track?

For beginners, it is very important to ease into things and be patient. You will build up stamina over time; it’s about knowing when to push yourself and when to stop. Not everyone has a personal coach with them to tailor a training plan. But the Running Coach feature provides customized programs to help even beginners train for a marathon. It tells you exactly what you should be doing during a run, motivates you and helps you improve. New runners are fortunate to have this fantastic technology which can guide them every step of the way. It’s also great for more experienced runners looking to take on a full marathon as it provides structured training programs.

Q. On World Health Day, the message is “Together for health, stand with science.” How does this relate to your own philosophy?

Science helps me throughout my training. I don’t know where I would be without the ability to track data on my Galaxy Watch8. I use that science to shape my daily routine. Science and technology help me perform at my best, and I believe they can do the same for anyone.

To mark the occasion, Samsung Newsroom spoke with Sun about her artistic philosophy, her visual language and what inspired this collaboration with Samsung Art Store.

Painting the Familiar Anew

Q. “Ken” (2023) is featured in this year’s Art Basel Hong Kong collection on Samsung Art Store. What’s the meaning behind this work?

My earlier iterations of “Ken” were all relatively small. This version is the first time I’ve painted him at a large scale — three meters across. I wanted the male figure in the painting to become the object of the gaze.

Barbie’s boyfriend feels very characteristic of our current moment. He has had all roughness and resistance removed. He is handsome, healthy and radiant. But he is empty. Inside, he is just plastic. He exists only as Barbie’s counterpart. I did not want to paint him as a toy, but as a living, beautiful head. When pilgrimage is stripped of traditional faith, it begins to reflect a problem of modernity.

“They were my companions in childhood, and they also carry the imprint of the time we live in.”

Q. Many of your paintings begin with familiar objects, toys or images from everyday life. What draws you to those subjects, and what do they allow you to explore as an artist?

I grew up in China in the 1990s, so I — and most people my age — did not have siblings. It was also a period of rapid economic change, shaped by reform and greater openness to global trade. My hometown, Wenzhou, is known for manufacturing.

As a child, I often visited local factories owned by friends’ families. The assembly lines and showrooms were filled with toys, eyeglasses and such goods ready for export to markets around the world. At home, I spent a lot of time alone with my dolls while my parents were away.

Later, when I was in college, I visited the city of Yiwu, known for its wholesale markets. I was struck by these small everyday objects — their shapes, materials, colors and textures all seemed to carry the atmosphere of a particular era. That experience led me to begin my “Man-Made Objects” series.

In the modern world, objects have become increasingly short-lived. I feel attached to these fleeting things made on assembly lines. They were my companions in childhood, and they also carry the imprint of the time we live in.

Q. What does painting allow you to do with these familiar objects that another medium might not?

Much like the subjects of my work, paint itself is also a material object. In a sense, I use one object — paint — to represent another object through realism. What matters to me is the painting’s physical presence. That is the key difference between a painting and an image of a painting on a screen: the painting exists physically as a real, tangible object.

I care deeply about the concept of painterliness, but I do not want my brushwork to be too expressive or too obvious. I do not want the texture to call attention to itself on the surface. I prefer to let it emerge quietly, in hidden and subtle places.

Where Nostalgia Meets the Present

Q. What first drew you to painting as your way of seeing and interpreting the world?

I studied at an art school in Beijing, but painting had already been part of my life since childhood. Over time, through constant practice and repetition, I gradually developed my own artistic language.

When I was little, I loved Shogo Hirata’s fairy tale books and would constantly copy the characters. I was also obsessed with “Sailor Moon” and drew its characters over and over again. I still remember one moment in kindergarten when I drew a princess for my classmates and cut small slits into her dress with scissors. When I held it up to the sunlight, the light came through and made the dress seem as if it were glowing. Everyone was delighted. I think that may have been the moment I realized how interesting drawing could be — and that I wanted to keep doing it.

Q. Your paintings are incredibly precise, but they also leave room for ambiguity and feeling. How do you think about that balance as you work?

Only when the choice of object, the coolness of the brushwork and the objectivity of the viewpoint are pushed to a very high degree of precision can ambiguity and emotion rise within the painting. Otherwise, it would simply be a depiction of an object, without meaning.

Q. How have you seen technology shape the way art is made, shared and experienced today — and where do you think that relationship is headed?

New technologies are constantly reshaping the way art is made today. As a painter, I know painting is a very old medium. But as a younger artist, I am open to trying new languages and new tools. That does not necessarily mean bringing them directly into my paintings. Rather, they push me to reflect on what painting means at this moment — what I should paint next, and how I should paint it.

From the Fair to Everyday Life

Q. Samsung Art Store creates a different context for discovering and experiencing art at home. How do you think your work resonates differently on displays than it does in a gallery or museum?

When my work is shown in a more private and intimate setting through a digital screen, it can take on a different feeling from the original painting. That shift is interesting to me because it allows people to encounter the work in everyday life, in a more personal way. On displays like The Frame, viewers can spend time with an image in their own space and notice details they might experience differently in a gallery or museum. At the same time, the original painting still has its own physical presence, so I hope people remain curious to see both. Right now, “Ken” is on view at the Long Museum in Shanghai.

Q. What interested you in partnering with Samsung Art Store to bring your art into the home, and what do you hope viewers take away from that experience?

I just hope my friends turn on their Samsung TV, see my giant “Ken” and get a little surprise!

Now featured on Samsung Art TVs¹ as part of the new Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 Collection, Najjar’s “europa” (2016) brings that expansive visual language into the home. Available exclusively on Samsung Art Store, the work extends the experience of Art Basel beyond the fair, revealing new layers of detail through Samsung’s display technology.

Samsung Newsroom spoke with Najjar about his visual language, the ideas behind his work and the role art can play in everyday environments.

Mapping the Contemporary Sublime

Q. Much of your work explores how we imagine and experience worlds beyond our immediate surroundings. What continues to inspire you about space as a subject?

I have had a lifelong fascination with space travel. As a young boy, Star Trek had a huge impact on me. Later, I read books by Philip K. Dick, Ray Bradbury and Arthur C. Clarke.

Films like Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” and Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner” remain constant sources of inspiration. Many of these visionary ideas are now turning into reality, which I find absolutely fascinating.

Q. Art and space exploration may seem like very different pursuits, but both have become central to your career. How did the path of artist and astronaut take shape in your life, and which came first?

I believe art and space exploration have been closely intertwined since the early Apollo missions — think of Robert Rauschenberg or Andy Warhol. When I began my “outer space” series in 2011, it was immediately clear to me that space exploration was entering a new phase, with a technological leap driven by the rise of private space companies.

In recent years, technological innovation has accelerated human activity in outer space, raising civilizational, ethical and geopolitical questions and calling for a new discourse on humanity’s expansion beyond our home planet. My series now includes over 80 artworks documenting the rise of the new space era.

Q. What feels most meaningful to you about presenting your work through Art Basel Hong Kong?

Art Basel Hong Kong connects global audiences with ideas beyond borders. Sharing my work here amplifies its reach and situates it within a broader dialogue about technology, space exploration and the future of human civilization.

A Visual Language of Technology and Space

Q. How do direct experiences like travel, expeditions and extreme environments shape the way you research and build an image?

We live in a time where experiences increasingly shift into virtual space. For me, physical engagement is essential: I develop concepts through dialogue with scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs, and by testing my own physical and mental limits in extreme conditions such as mountain climbing, glacier crossings and astronaut training. These experiences form the foundation of my artistic work. I like the expression “build an image” — that’s exactly what I do. The process, from the very first idea to the final artwork on the wall, can sometimes take more than a year.

Q. Technology has changed the way people create and experience art in major ways. Over the course of your career, how has that shift influenced your practice?

For me, technology has always been both a medium and a subject. I have always been fascinated by the impact of new technologies on society. Early in my career, it was about the digitalization of the photographic process; later, with the rise of the internet, interconnectivity and data flows became central. With AI, we are entering an entirely new universe, being propelled at light speed, with the risk of being swallowed by a vast black hole. What has truly changed over the past three decades is the speed of technological evolution — acceleration shapes every aspect of our human existence. Today, the focus is on the transformative power of artificial intelligence.

Q. “europa” feels closely connected to your interest in space and the unknown. Can you tell us more about the ideas behind the piece and the kind of response you hope it creates for viewers?

Europa is an extraordinary icy world, its entire surface covered by a thick ice shell several kilometers deep. Solid scientific evidence now shows that beneath this shell lies a 100-kilometer-deep saltwater ocean, possibly containing more than twice the water on Earth. There is also a high probability that Europa has the right conditions to support life.

Bringing the Infinite Inside the Home

Q. “europa” is one of the works featured in this year’s Art Basel Hong Kong collection on Samsung Art Store. What makes it a compelling piece to encounter digitally at home?

The work “europa” visualizes the surface of Jupiter’s moon Europa, one of the most likely places to find life outside Earth. The visual composition — very much inspired by German painter Caspar David Friedrich — fuses landscape portraits photographed in a glacier region of Iceland with images of the surface of the Europa moon taken by the flyby Galileo space probe. The work also conveys humankind’s irrepressible urge to discover new worlds and learn more about the origins of human life.

Q. Samsung Art Store makes it possible for people to discover and experience art as part of everyday life. What does that kind of accessibility mean to you as an artist?

Samsung Art Store is about making art more accessible, interactive and part of everyday living, rather than confined to physical spaces like galleries, museums or art fairs. The artwork reaches people unexpectedly, inviting reflection in daily moments. I really like that idea!

Q. Does knowing that viewers may encounter your work at home change the way you think about how it is seen or experienced?

Well, many of my collectors have my artworks hanging at home. Knowing that people can now experience the work at home through Samsung Art TV adds a new dimension. It always makes a difference if you go somewhere to look at art or if you live with art.

Q. If someone encounters your work for the first time through Samsung Art Store, what do you hope they notice or take away from the experience?

I hope they realize that staring at stunning artworks on a Samsung TV can be way more thrilling than binge-watching the latest streaming series.

Samsung Electronics has independently developed the APV (Advanced Professional Video) codec, a technology designed to enable high-quality video editing and has released it as open source. The codec made its debut on Galaxy S26 Ultra launched in March, setting a new benchmark for mobile video creation. By preserving image quality while minimizing loss throughout the editing process, APV enables more precise, professional-grade video production.

Samsung Newsroom sat down with developers from the Visual Solution Team of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics to hear the story behind APV, from technical challenges faced in development to the thinking that shaped it.

Q. What led to the development of the APV codec?

Yoo: Conventional video codecs experience some data loss during the compression process required to reduce file size. In particular, as the repeated editing process tends to result in noticeable degradation in image quality, a new codec has been developed to fundamentally address these limitations.

To this end, we proposed a collaboration with Samsung Research. Samsung Research took the lead in standardizing APV, and then MX business worked closely over the past three years to ensure its support as part of the Android standard.

Q. What is the APV codec, and what are its key advantages?

Yoo: APV is a video codec that has been formally standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). It is optimized for editing, preserving as much data as possible while delivering excellent compression efficiency relative to image quality. At the same quality level, it can reduce file size by more than 10 percent compared to similar codecs.

Min: It also delivers refined color reproduction based on the YUV 4:2:2 and achieves visually lossless level of image quality, while maintaining minimal degradation even after multiple rounds of editing.

Q. Why did you choose to release APV as open source?

Yoo: We chose to develop APV as open source to encourage wider adoption and to build an ecosystem through standardization — ultimately bringing the technology and its benefits to more users. No matter how advanced a technology is, if it isn’t widely used, it becomes obsolete.

Q. What were the key priorities in implementing APV codec on a mobile device?

Min: Moving from standardization to commercialization was a challenge on a completely different level. To enable real-time processing of UHD and 8K video within the constraints of mobile devices, efforts were focused on thermal management and system-level optimization. With APV, UHD 30fps footage can reach up to 6GB per minute, so we partnered with Samsung Electronics’ Memory Business to ensure data storage stability. As a result of validating the latest Samsung portable SSD models across all recording resolutions on Galaxy S26 Ultra over more than nine test cycles, stable data transfer performance was secured even under high-load conditions.

Yoo: Building the APV ecosystem also required close collaboration with a wide range of partners. We worked closely not only with chipset manufacturers, but also with companies developing editing tools and video players.

Q. How does it feel to see the APV codec debut on Galaxy S26 Ultra?

Yoo: As more expert-level users such as YouTubers and influencers emerge, we wanted to lower the barriers to entry for video production, which has traditionally required access to professional equipment. Galaxy S26 Ultra comes with four built-in cinematic LUTs (Look-Up Tables), and we hope this allows more users to easily create film-like visuals right from their hands.

Min: What stands out most to me is developing a dedicated pro kit for Galaxy S26 Ultra in collaboration with a camera accessory specialist. Despite the tight timeline leading up to the Galaxy Unpacked where the product was unveiled, we were able to refine the overall quality, which makes it especially meaningful. It laid the foundation for Galaxy to be utilized in professional video production workflow.

Q. As a developer from the Visual Solution Team, what are your plans going forward?

Yoo: We plan to continue advancing the codec so that both users and creators can find even greater value in Galaxy-based video editing. Through APV, we look forward to the day when Galaxy S26 Ultra is even used in film production environments.

Min: Our goal is to make it easier for everyday users to create professional, cinematic content. We’ll also continue collaborating with partners to expand the APV ecosystem.

With the APV codec, Galaxy S26 Ultra moves beyond incremental innovation. It lowers barriers to entry while raising the bar for what mobile video production can be. An era has arrived where a single Galaxy device can take users from shooting to editing to sharing at a professional level. And at the intersection of Galaxy S26 Ultra’s technology and creators’ imagination, the possibilities are wide open.

Amid this shift, Samsung Electronics has positioned Bixby at the forefront. With its official launch on March 31, Bixby has evolved from a voice assistant into a “device agent” — capable of understanding device context, connecting functions and executing complex tasks on users’ behalf. With intuitive natural language control, Bixby provides personalized solutions based on device status, along with seamless access to web-based information within a single conversational flow.

So what goes into making Bixby more than just a voice assistant? Jisun Park, Corporate Executive Vice President and Head of Language AI Team at Samsung Electronics’ Mobile eXperience (MX) Business breaks it down.

Q. What has changed with the new Bixby compared to before?

Bixby has evolved into a more powerful device agent, going beyond a traditional assistant. Optimized for each user’s device, it deeply understands device status and capabilities to provide more relevant responses and tailored solutions. With enhanced natural language understanding, it also enables more intuitive and seamless device control.

Q. What are some of the key experiences users can expect from the new Bixby?

The most noticeable improvement is how intuitive device control has become.

Bixby understands user intent and recommends the most appropriate settings or features, eliminating the need to navigate menus or know exact feature names. Users can simply describe what they want in natural language.

For example, if a user says, “Make my screen visible only to me,” Bixby activates the Privacy Display feature.

Bixby can also answer questions about the device and provide personalized solutions based on current settings — essentially a service center in your pocket. For example, asking “My eyes are tired — how can I make the screen easier to look at?” will prompt Bixby to recommend and activate the Eye comfort shield feature right then and there.

Users can get answers and solutions simply by asking questions during a conversation, without needing to search through settings or open separate apps such as a browser or maps.

In addition, Bixby is no longer limited to device-related queries. It now can analyze real-time web information and provide relevant answers. For example, users can ask, “Recommend three Korean restaurants in Seoul for a family of four,” and receive results directly within the conversation.

This allows users to ask follow-up questions naturally and get the information they need without interrupting their flow or switching contexts.

Q. What was the most challenging part of the Bixby update process?

The biggest effort went into redesigning Bixby’s architecture from command-based to agentic, enabling it to better understand user intent and deliver optimal results.

Previously, Bixby classified user input and executed tasks based on preset scenarios. Now, with an LLM at its core, it can interpret intent more flexibly and generate its own execution plans.

More specifically, we transformed individual functions into callable agents and defined them in a way that allows the LLM to invoke them as needed. This enables the system to combine multiple functions and APIs to complete tasks more meaningfully, going beyond simple natural language understanding.

As a result, Bixby now handles complex, multi-step requests more naturally with greater contextual awareness, including scenarios that were previously difficult to process.

Q. Is there a memorable episode during development?

Improving Korean language performance was particularly memorable. Korean’s extensive use of particles and verb endings creates significant variation in word forms, while its flexible word order and reliance on context allow meaning to vary widely. These characteristics make it challenging for LLMs to reliably interpret sentence structure and semantics.

To better capture these linguistic traits, we refined the training approach of our LLM-based models — improving model architecture and strengthening context-based learning. As a result, we elevated Korean language performance well beyond our initial targets. It was the moment the entire team gained confidence in this new version of Bixby.

Q. What role will Bixby play in Samsung’s transition to the agentic AI era?

Bixby will play a key role as a device agent, helping users more easily access and use Samsung devices to their full potential.

At its core, agentic AI is about understanding intent and context to autonomously carry out tasks on behalf of users, making everyday experiences simpler and more convenient. Through this, Samsung aims to accelerate the widespread adoption of AI and ultimately embed it seamlessly into everyday life, much like essential infrastructure.

With Bixby, users can discover and use a wide range of Galaxy AI features without needing technical expertise. In this way, Bixby lowers the barrier to AI and helps more people enjoy AI experiences in their daily lives.

Q. Bixby is now expanding beyond Galaxy mobile devices to other Samsung devices. Can you tell us more about this?

Bixby is already available across a range of Samsung devices beyond the Galaxy ecosystem, bringing added convenience to users.

This evolution of Bixby is now being rolled out in phases to more products, enabling Samsung users to control multiple devices throughout the home more conveniently.

Through SmartThings integration, users can also control home appliances remotely via Galaxy devices. For example, while outside, they can say, “Start cleaning the floor,” to a robot vacuum, or “Turn on the air conditioner in dehumidification mode,” before arriving home.

This allows users to manage their home environment more seamlessly, even when they are away.

As Bixby continues to expand across devices, it will deliver a more integrated and connected experience, helping users enjoy greater convenience in their daily lives.

Q. What is the future direction and goal for Bixby?

Our goal is for Bixby to become the primary entry point for interacting with Samsung products.

In the past, users had to search for the right app, navigate menus and move between multiple screens to complete a task.

With Bixby, simply speaking is enough to get things done. This represents a shift from app- and menu-based interactions to a more natural, conversation-driven experience.

To achieve this, we are continuously advancing key AI capabilities such as natural language understanding, context-based reasoning and planning.

At the same time, we are expanding Bixby across more devices. As a device agent that understands each product and connects it to user intent, Bixby will become a natural and seamless partner in everyday life.

As one of Europe’s most modern planetariums, the Zeiss Grand Planetarium is a key venue for science communication, showcasing events and exhibitions centered on astronomy and space travel. To enhance this experience, the Planetarium Berlin Foundation opted for an immersive LED installation in the foyer to serve as a visual gateway to the cosmos.

The installation consists of 85 Samsung IEA series LED cabinets (IE020A model). Featuring a 2.0 mm pixel pitch and a refresh rate of 3,840 Hz, the display ensures sharp, detailed and flicker-free imagery, even at close viewing distances or when captured on camera. This high-performance setup allows the planetarium to present complex scientific content and vivid space imagery with clarity and precision.

Beyond its technical capabilities, the LED wall serves as a central attraction within the venue. It functions both as an engaging visual centerpiece and a popular photo opportunity for visitors, contributing to a more interactive and memorable guest experience. The flexible design of the installation enables a wide range of content formats, including educational visualizations, previews for upcoming events and even live looks at the International Space Station (ISS).

“This opens up exciting prospects for a modern visitor experience that sparks curiosity and leaves visitors wanting more,” says Tim Florian Horn, Chairman of the Planetarium Berlin Foundation.

“Our LED technology delivers brilliant picture quality, high reliability and flexible application options. In the Zeiss Grand Planetarium, we have installed the LED cabinets in such a way that they create an immersive spatial experience. Installations like this demonstrate how technology brings knowledge to life in an emotional way and transforms spaces into places of experience,” says Amit Chatterjee, Manager of Presales Solutions at Samsung Electronics.

By integrating LED solutions, Samsung and Zeiss Grand Planetarium are demonstrating how advanced display technologies can enhance public engagement with science by making complex topics more accessible and visually compelling.

Samsung Electronics today announced that approximately 34 models across its 2026 TV and soundbar lineup have received Product Carbon Reduction and Product Carbon Footprint certifications from TÜV Rheinland, a globally recognized certification organization based in Germany. The achievement reflects Samsung’s continued efforts to reduce carbon emissions across its premium product lineup.

“As a global leader in premium displays and audio, Samsung sees sustainability as an essential part of innovation,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. “We remain committed to reducing carbon emissions across our products, so consumers do not have to choose between cutting-edge technology and a more responsible product experience.”

Samsung received Product Carbon Reduction certification for 14 premium display and audio models, including its 2026 OLED TVs, The Frame Pro and its flagship HW-Q990H soundbar.¹ An additional 20 products, including Micro RGB and Mini LED TVs, earned Product Carbon Footprint certification.²

TÜV Rheinland grants Product Carbon Footprint certification to products that meet international standards for evaluating greenhouse gas emissions across the full product life cycle, including manufacturing, transportation, use and disposal.

Product Carbon Reduction certification, on the other hand, is granted to products that have already received Product Carbon Footprint certification and further demonstrate a measurable reduction in carbon emissions compared with their predecessors. Notably, the HW-Q990H earned both certifications, extending Samsung’s sustainability efforts beyond TVs.

In 2021, Samsung’s Neo QLED became the first TV with 4K resolution or higher to receive Product Carbon Reduction certification. In the six years since, the company has continued to expand its portfolio of certified products across QLED, OLED, Lifestyle TVs, monitors and signage.

These efforts also reflect Samsung’s broader leadership in premium display and audio categories, where it has led the global TV market for 20 years³ and remained the No. 1 global soundbar brand for 12 years.⁴

Samsung Electronics today announced a key software update for Galaxy XR, adding enterprise-ready capabilities through Android Enterprise and improving everyday user experiences with several usability upgrades. With this latest firmware release, Android XR will now receive regular software updates, including security patches, for up to five years¹ — underscoring Samsung and its partners commitment to long-term performance, security and innovation on the XR platform launched in October 2025.

A new Samsung Electronics study reveals widespread exposure of personal content during public smartphone use across Europe. Surveying 11,000 people, the research found that 56% have accidentally viewed someone else’s screen, while 24% admitted doing so out of curiosity.

The findings highlight a gap between perceived and actual privacy. While 48% believe their phone use remains private in public, 52% say it is easy to see others’ screens. These everyday moments create an “accidental audience,” where sensitive information is exposed simply because screens are visible in public. Notably, 38% have delayed or avoided certain activities on their devices in public due to concerns about being observed.

The study also underscores the sensitivity of exposed content. One-third of respondents reported seeing personal information on others’ devices, including messages, photos, video calls and even financial details. Nearly half have felt that someone else was looking at their own screen, and 42% have stopped using their phone altogether in such situations.

To address these concerns, Samsung introduced Privacy Display on Galaxy S26 Ultra — a built-in feature that restricts screen visibility to direct viewing angles, helping safeguard sensitive information without compromising display quality. Spatial Signage, Samsung’s glasses-free 3D display, has earned industry recognition with awards at IFA 2025, CES 2026 and ISE 2026. Bringing the concept to life required close collaboration across display, research and design teams — each solving a different piece of the 3D puzzle.

Samsung Newsroom spoke with experts across the company — Jong-Gu Sun and Yujin Nam from the Visual Display (VD) Business, Chang-Kun Lee from Samsung Research (SR) and Eun Vit Chung from the Corporate Design Office (CDO) — about the journey behind the innovation.

Redefining the 3D Visual Experience

As demand grows for more distinctive visuals, the need for new display solutions is increasing. “We are seeing rising interest in visually striking content that captures attention, such as ultra-large LED-based anamorphic displays,” said Sun. “However, these installations typically require more space than traditional signage and dedicated 3D content.”

“Spatial Signage delivers immersive 3D depth without glasses or bulky holographic boxes, enabling differentiated experiences across a wide range of environments,” he added. “It also reduces the cost of producing dedicated content while remaining compatible with existing signage systems.”

Turning the concept into reality required a strong technological foundation. “While exploring new signage solutions, we discovered advanced display technology under development at Samsung Research and realized it could enable 3D signage for B2B environments,” said Chung. “From that point, close collaboration among SR, CDO and the VD Business advanced the technology and brought it to market.”

Inside the Technology Behind Spatial Signage

At the core of Spatial Signage is 3D plate technology. “The system combines a display with optical components to send separate images to each eye, applying the principle of binocular disparity so the brain perceives depth,” Lee explained. “A lenticular card — which shows different images depending on the viewing angle — is a common example of a 3D plate.”

“Spatial Signage uses a new method of rendering 3D images to address the limitations of conventional glasses-free 3D displays, such as reduced image quality and narrow viewing angles,” he added. “By presenting the main subject in high-resolution 2D while using a 3D plate to create depth in the background, it achieves both immersion and high image quality.”

Building an ultra-large, 85-inch 3D display was no easy task. A 3D plate is made by combining lenticular lenses with printed images to produce 3D visuals — and once created, it cannot be adjusted.

“If discrepancies between design specifications and the actual structure are not precisely accounted for, the background on screen can appear distorted,” said Lee. “To address this, we developed a special pattern to detect errors during lens production.” By combining this printed pattern with the lenticular lens, the team could quickly identify deviations and adjust printing conditions accordingly.

Securing depth while maintaining a slim profile was another challenge. Spatial Signage uses a thin 3-4 mm 3D plate to create a box-like sense of space with a perceived depth of up to 500 mm, as if extending inside the screen. “Achieving depth with such thin optical materials made lens design and reliability testing difficult,” Nam explained. “Despite numerous unexpected obstacles, we explored a range of ideas and ultimately improved the product’s quality.”

The team also faced physical limitations. “With an ultra-large 3D plate, gravity can cause sagging, leading to blemishes or distortions, while vertical lenses can produce the moiré effect — a high-frequency, wave-like pattern,” said Nam. “We repeatedly encountered these technical constraints. It would not have been possible without close collaboration across teams.”

Crafting Depth Through Design

With the technology in place, the next step was to design an intuitive and immersive visual experience. “To maximize depth on the 85-inch screen, we refined the 3D plate imagery and developed guidelines for image processing that enhance elements such as perspective and shadows,” Chung emphasized. “It is the result of years of accumulated expertise and dedication.”

As a result, the 3D plate features precisely calculated lines, surfaces and gradient backgrounds, while the foreground 2D content incorporates lighting, shadows and perspective aligned with the background’s depth. “This project felt like bringing virtual images from a 3D program into the real world,” said Chung. “I’ve grown attached to each visual element created through this process.”

However, implementing the concept proved more complex than expected. “While typical design work can rely on a single image, Spatial Signage requires images to be divided into micrometer-level segments — thinner than a strand of human hair,” Chung explained. In other words, designers had to anticipate how those segments would come together. “It would have been impossible without a deep understanding of optics. By studying and applying those principles, we achieved the sense of depth seen today.”

New Opportunities for B2B Displays

Developed through close collaboration across teams, Spatial Signage goes beyond traditional displays and opens new possibilities in everyday environments. To increase its versatility in diverse retail settings, Samsung plans to expand its lineup past the current 85-inch model with 32-inch and 55-inch options later this year.

“Whenever I walk by a café with Spatial Signage, I notice people pausing to look at the display,” said Nam. “For cafés or franchises seeking a more engaging way to promote seasonal menus or events, it can offer a compelling alternative.”

AI Studio,¹ an AI-powered content creation app within Samsung Visual eXperience Transformation (VXT), lets users create signage-ready videos from a single product image. In addition to supporting standard digital signage, it offers an option to optimize content specifically for Spatial Signage — delivering a truly immersive experience on the 3D display.

“In addition to retail, Spatial Signage is drawing strong interest from sectors including 3D audiovisual solutions for education in Europe, virtual personal training systems for major fitness chains and augmented reality waiting areas at theme parks in Korea,” said Sun. “Through innovative display solutions, we will continue to build a commercial display ecosystem that only Samsung can deliver.”

Ultimately, Spatial Signage is not just about making images appear in 3D — it is about creating more immediate, memorable and lifelike experiences in everyday spaces.

According to market intelligence firm Euromonitor International, Samsung recorded the highest microwave retail volume sales in Europe in 2025. With this achievement, the company has maintained its position in the region every year since 2015.

Samsung has consistently tailored its microwave portfolio to consumer preferences by adding core features that enhance kitchen convenience. A New Home for World-Class Art

Samsung Art TV Lounge was built around the concept “Crossing Time, Crossing Space,” connecting Korean artistic heritage with a contemporary vision of art at home.

Visitors first passed through an exterior LED facade before entering the lounge, where vivid digital artwork unfolded across Samsung Art TVs.

Inside the space, a cube-like arrangement featured the Samsung OLED on the left, The Frame Pro on the right and the 130-inch Micro RGB that anchored the exhibition, capturing every nuance of brushstroke and light in true-to-artist detail.

Across the three Samsung Art TVs, selections from the late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-Hee’s renowned Collection were presented through Samsung’s partnership with the National Museum of Korea, alongside works by Yoon-Hee, living in France, known for large, simple abstract paintings and metal sculptures that explore time, and the mix of Asian and European styles, and JongSuk Yoon, living in Germany, known for dreamy, colorful landscapes that connect East Asian traditions with Western abstract art.

Further into the exhibition, guests explored Samsung Art Store’s 2026 Art Basel Hong Kong collection, a curated selection of 25 works from 20 emerging and established artists represented by eight prestigious galleries, including Bank, CLC Gallery Venture, Lin & Lin, Pearl Lam, Rossi & Rossi, Tomio Koyama, Vacancy and Don Gallery.

Interactive moments extended beyond the Samsung Art TV Lounge, with visitors invited to explore Samsung Art TV displays across the fair and take part in an Art TV billboard selfie activation at the Hong Kong Entertainment Building Shopping Arcade, reinforcing the idea that art can be experienced as part of everyday life from anywhere.

By simply typing, “Make it look uneaten,” Photo Assist restored the cake to its original form.

Reimagine Any Scene After the Shot

Capturing the perfect shot while traveling isn’t always easy. Moments when the scenery, subject and timing align are rare.

Using Photo Assist, a photo of San Francisco’s streets was combined with an image of a passing tram, creating a seamless result — as if taken in a single moment.

Another notable feature is the ability to change the time of day. After uploading a daytime photo of San Francisco’s harbor and entering prompts such as “Make it look like sunset” or “Turn it into a night scene,” Galaxy AI adjusted the sky and lighting to recreate the scene at a different time of day.

Turn Photos Into Artistic Creations

After capturing a scene of sea lions at Pier 39 — one of San Francisco’s iconic landmarks — the photo was imported into Creative Studio. Selecting the Oil painting style, Galaxy AI analyzed the image’s texture and colors, transforming it into an oil painting-style image.

The result is reimagined with a different aesthetic, making it feel like an entirely new piece.

Creative Studio on Galaxy S26 Ultra transforms travel photos into a range of styles, helping users preserve memories through fresh perspectives.

Create Custom Stickers With Ease

Custom stickers were also created using a photo of sea lions. After launching Creative Studio, selecting an image and choosing a style, tapping “Generate” produced a character sticker that captured the sea lions’ distinctive features.

Users can generate images repeatedly until they achieve the desired result, then choose from seven themes — such as “A slice of Life,” “School days” or “Today’s vibe” — to save the sticker as a themed set.

These stickers can be used not only to decorate photos, but also across text-based apps including messaging and notes.

With Creative Studio, users can transform everyday photos into personalized content, sharing memories in new ways — whether among friends and family or on social media.

Capturing moments in San Francisco with Galaxy S26 Ultra and enhancing them with Galaxy AI made travel memories richer than ever. From shooting and editing to sharing, the entire process comes together seamlessly in a single device.

Drawing on works by Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel, the sounds create a deeper, more immersive listening experience in everyday life.

A Sound Philosophy Inspired by Nature

Galaxy has established “Inspired by Nature” as the core concept of its sound design, applying it across all interaction sounds — from ringtones to touch sounds. Extending this philosophy, Samsung brings nature-inspired classical music to Galaxy, creating a more refined listening experience in everyday interactions.

New ringtones on the Galaxy S26 series include Bach’s “Prélude” from Cello Suite No. 1, whose symmetry, repetition and harmony evoke natural patterns such as plant growth and ocean waves.

Also included is Handel’s “Alla Hornpipe” from Water Music Suite No. 2, famously performed on the River Thames for King George and known for its flowing rhythm and structured progression.

Both pieces were previously used as ringtones during the Anycall era of the 1990s and 2000s, returning as familiar, nostalgic melodies.

Global Collaboration Behind the Sound

Global experts collaborated throughout the recording process to enhance sound quality. The ringtones were recorded at Abbey Road Studios — the world’s first recording studio and the birthplace of many iconic Beatles tracks. Jonathan Allan handled recording and mixing in London, while Tae Ho Lee of MiXNBLE led mastering in Seoul, highlighting East–West collaboration.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, a world-renowned U.K. symphony orchestra, performed both pieces. The Bach piece features co-principal cellist Jonathan Ayling.

A Unified Vision for Galaxy Sound

The new ringtones on the Galaxy S26 series go beyond simple alerts, reflecting Galaxy’s sound identity shaped by nature-inspired design and refined technology.
