Wearable devices are getting a lot of attention for their technology and functionality. The Gear Fit, with the world’s first 1.84-inch curved AMOLED display, is a prime example. Even if the style of the Gear Fit tends to go unnoticed, as some of you might imagine, the ‘design’ itself has been drawing much attention since its release. To embrace both sides of the tech and the style, the Gear Fit has a special story, which we’re going to spend today taking a deeper look at.

Small and Light

To be wearable (literally), the Gear Fit had to be small and light. However, satisfying these requirements was much harder than it sounds. It was one of the most challenging tasks for Samsung, especially and most importantly because all the information had to be displayed on the small screen. Therefore, the designers and developers at Samsung had a hard time selecting which essential functions should be displayed on the 1.84-inch curved AMOLED display; a task of simplifying complicated things.

After serious consideration of data regarding what users want the most in their wearable devices, ‘fitness’ was chosen as the main functionality of the Gear Fit. By boldly removing other functions, the Gear Fit effectively focuses on fitness and working out. To give you some examples, the Gear Fit can handle measuring the user’s heartbeat, coaching the user through workouts, and providing the ever-present stop watch and timer functions for daily exercise.

Even during your working out, it’s so small and light that you might not even realize it’s on your wrist!

Curved and Customizable

Another reason the Gear Fit is pleasantly wearable is its curved display. Since the Gear Fit is a product that you wear on your wrist every day, it is important to be ergonomically designed. For example, to make sure that it comfortably sits on any size of wrists, more than 100 different mock-ups were made while adjusting the size and shape.

Moreover, Samsung really paid meticulous attention to users’ preferences during this process, which paid off in customer satisfaction. From the moment when the Gear Fit was unveiled at MWC 2014, there’s been a tremendous amount of interest in the Gear Fit from users and global media outlets as well. Lots of feedback led Samsung to tweak the display a bit. One of the most common initial questions was about whether the display was horizontal or vertical. The Gear Fit originally displayed contents horizontally only, but reflecting the feedback from customers, now it also displays vertically.

In addition, the Gear Fit offers various strap colors including Charcoal Black, Mocha Gray, Wild Orange with additional options for Supreme Red, Cobalt Blue, and Vital Green. You can also change display wallpaper or digital clock screen to match the strap color.

With the basic features related to fitness such as tracking your steps, measuring your heart rate, and receiving notifications, the Gear Fit is here to help you on your way to a healthier life while still remaining stylish.
