Quincy Jones Goes Over the Horizon with Galaxy Music Project

“Music is inspiration.”

Music inspires us in so many ways, which is why great musicians are celebrated all over the world; such as Quincy Jones, Icona Pop and CNBLUE. What these musicians can do is like magic. How do they do it? Musicians must be inspired by something too to create the music we listen to everyday. To fulfill our curiosity, Samsung Electronics worked on a project, with Quincy Jones, Icona Pop and CNBLUE to show people how they transform an inspiration to music, called the ‘GALAXY Music Project’.

‘GALAXY Music Project’ is a special collaborated music project with some of our favorite musicians to provide a new musical experience for the GALAXY users in their daily lives. Samsung Electronics LiVE got the backstage pass to the ‘GALAXY Music Project’ to bring you some insights!

The ‘GALAXY Music Project’

‘GALAXY Music Project,’ is getting a great amount of attention from people all around the world. How couldn’t it? The project involved world renowned musicians like legendary record producer, who has worked profoundly with Michael Jackson-Quincy Jones, growing global electronic dance music (EDM) duo band, who has recently ranked #6 on the billboard Hot 100 chart-Icona Pop, and the hottest K-pop modern rock band in Southeast Asia, China, and Latin America, currently on ‘Bluemoon tour’-CNBLUE. One of the most interesting parts about the project was the inspiration musicians worked with.

“World renowned musicians have participated in the project to recreate GALAXY mobile’s signature sound, ‘Over the Horizon.’ These musicians have applied Samsung GALAXY’s value and philosophy into their music, and released such amazing GALAXY songs to consumers all across the globe. We are planning on introducing various features of GALAXY products through music videos, and we are also going to provide these special GALAXY songs for consumers to use as their ringtones.”

“’We’ve released all the songs from ‘GALAXY Music Project’ today, and these songs are already getting very positive reactions. In the near future, consumers and artists will be able to experience different things through GALAXY mobile group play, sound & shot, dual camera, and entertainment features.”

Recreating ‘Over the horizon’

Samsung Electronics GALAXY signature sound, ‘Over the Horizon,’ depicts hopes and values in a very sensible and special way. Josh Youn of UX Design Group 3, who is also the original composer of ‘Over the Horizon,’ was responsible for directing musicians in content production.

Josh Youn (Senior Designer, UX Design Group 3):
“When musicians were rearranging ‘Over the Horizon,’ we tried to discuss a lot about the song’s philosophy, direction, and thematic ideas. Also, I tried to help so each musician could add his or her taste and inspiration to music. I believe consumers will like these rearranged melodies of ‘Over the Horizon,’ because they are all very different and beautiful.”

Quincy Jones, CNBLUE, and other musicians have recreated GALAXY’s ‘Over the Horizon,’ by adding their flavor, while addressing innovative and futuristic ideas of the original melody. To us, this sounds absolutely creative, yet challenging. But come on, it is Quincy Jones. Could you imagine all the fun ‘GALAXY Music Project’ team had working with these great musicians? We had to ask the team about how participating on such a great project was like.

“The Backstage Pass”

“We began ‘GALAXY Music Project,’ after realizing that the most frequently used feature on GALAXY smartphones is ‘music listening.’ We wanted to provide a space for consumers to share their music, utilizing GALAXY smartphone’s innovative features. Not only that, we wanted to provide ultimate musical experience for our consumers. We are going to continue to provide differentiated values, as well as infinite possibilities and experiences to our consumers through Samsung GALAXY’s original and unique product marketing strategy.”

“Music marketing is considered sensitivity marketing. GALAXY Music Project is one of the ways to promote and market our brand, but it is also a way to sell our current memories. In the future, we will look back on this day and realize the love and various emotions we felt while listening to this music. Please look forward to hearing different versions of ‘Over the Horizon.’”

“We looked for various ways to imprint our brand sound since 2007 and 2008. We used this brand signature sound on various shows, commercials, and as Booth BGM. The recent GALAXY Music Project is therefore an extremely meaningful project for all of us. I cannot wait to see the outcome of this project, as it is something that we have wanted for a long time.”
