Samsung Curved UHD TV Release for the First Time in Korea
On February 20, Samsung Electronics showcased its 2014 TV line-up, including the world’s first Curved UHD TV, for the first time in Korea at its Media Day event, which was held at the Samsung Electronics Building in Seoul.
“Samsung will open a new TV paradigm with its Curved TV,” said HS Kim, executive vice president and head of Samsung’s Visual Display business. “We will continue to maintain the number one position in the global TV market for the ninth consecutive year with our Curved TV.”
Samsung’s 2014 Curved UHD TV line-up will be available in 105-, 78-, 65- and 55-inches. Additionally, Samsung plans to expand its flat UHD TV category by adding 110-, 85-, 65-, 55- and 50-inch products.
Thanks to its advanced technology, Samsung’s Curved UHD TV offers optimal curvature of 42000R, which provides the best picture quality from a normal viewing distance of 3 meters to 4 meters.
Samsung’s Curved UHD TV offers optimal curvature of 4200R and ultimate picture quality to provide an immersive viewing experience. The curved screen gives a wider field of view and creates a panoramic effect that makes the display seem bigger than it is, as well as a greater sense of depth.
As a leader of the UHD TV market, Samsung actively works to expand the UHD content ecosystem and plans to launch its “UHD Video Pack” in March. The pack will be pre-loaded with UHD movies and documentaries from Hollywood studios including FOX and Paramount. Up to 50 UHD contents will be available for download within this year from the Multimedia panel of the Smart Hub.
Additionally, Samsung plans to support the world’s first UHD live broadcast in April, working with Korean cable operators.
The Smart TV experience is now faster thanks to the upgraded quad core processor. In fact, the QuadCore Plus is up to two times faster and delivers quicker loading and navigation with an overall improved Smart TV performance.
On its Smart TV, Samsung also strengthened the ‘Soccer Mode,’ which captures highlights from the game and provides services that are optimized for the TV. For example, Samsung Smart TV will automatically detect when the sportscaster’s voice gets louder, or if there are any changes to the electronic scoreboard, and capture the highlights of the game.
At Media Day, Samsung also unveiled its global marketing campaign, “Samsung UHD TV Coliseum.” Samsung built a large Coliseum-like structure consisting of seven 65-inch Curved UHD TVs, and worked with world-renowned director Michael Bay who produced a special video of “Transformers 4” released for the first time in Korea before the movie’s release in June.
Samsung also showcased various AV products that deliver UHD-level sound quality complementary to the Curved UHD TV. For example, Samsung’s Sound Bar F850’s vacuum tube amp is harmonized with its sleek real-metal design and provides more vivid sound quality when watching sporting games and concerts.
