Samsung Electronics at the scene of the Marathon in Slovakia

Do you like marathon? Or just watching the race? Either way, marathon is greatly loved by men and women of all ages. As one of the most popular events of Olympics, it is also held from all parts of the world –  each year, more than 500 marathons are held throughout the world, including Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia! Yes, as you may have already suspected, Samsung was at the Marathon event in Slovakia. What was Samsung doing at the Bratislava Marathon 2014?

Why Samsung participated in the Bratislava Marathon 2014

On April 5th, the Bratislava Marathon 2014 was held in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Celebrating its 9th anniversary, Bratislava Marathon had 8,706 participants this year.

The day before the race, on April 4th, an opening ceremony kicked off the event. The mayor of Bratislava, Milan Ftacnik and VIP guests from sponsoring companies attended the ceremony. Since Samsung was the main sponsoring partner, Daewon Kim, the President of SECS (Samsung Electronics Czech and Slovak) and Peter Tvrdon, the Director of Sales and Marketing of Slovakia Branch were two of many who were invited to the event.

After the ceremony, a VIP lounge was prepared for guests to take a break. And there they could experience the Curved UHD TV, which Samsung Electronics has just launched this year. Until the last day of the Bratislava Marathon, the lounge offered a place to rest and an opportunity to experience the Samsung’s newest masterpiece that boasts the ultimate picture quality.

The Samsung Tent was also offered for the participants with Samsung’s major mobile devices including the Galaxy series (Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3, Gear, Gear Fit), the tablet PCs (Note Pro, Note 10.1 2014 Edition, Galaxy Tab Kids), and cameras (NX30). In addition, Samsung set up the ‘Samsung Smart Service’ section where two engineers provided free software update service for Samsung mobile phone users. Free charging services for mobile phones, laptops, and cameras and service consultation on other products were provided as well.

Finally on April 5th, following various events, such as a 10km relay, an in-line skate race, a kids’ marathon and a half marathon, the full marathon started. Executives and employees of SECS (Samsung Electronics Czech and Slovak) also participated in the race with their families.

At 4 p.m. the award ceremony closed out the event. A participant from Kenya won the race and the Mayor Milan Ftacnik presented him with the trophy. Other winners also received prizes, such as Samsung TVs, cameras, tablet PCs, and smartphones; all provided as a part of the sponsorship from Samsung Electronics.
