Samsung Electronics will bring its design philosophy to life with an installation for Fuorisalone 2012, an international furniture exhibition, at Superstudio Più in Milan. The event, which takes place April 17 to April 22, will showcase Samsung’s vision for a home that is harmoniously blended with technology.

“Our global design philosophy is rooted in creating products that are meaningful to consumers. For our Italian consumers, our design philosophy is enhanced further by focusing on products that are intuitively easy to use. We also emphasize design that is harmonious between the product and its environment and nature.” - DongHoon Chang, head of the strategic design team at the Corporate Design Center

Using these design principles as a guideline, Samsung commissioned multi-faceted architect Italo Rota, who envisioned a future where lifestyles will be intrinsically interwoven with technology, meeting the lifestyle needs of its inhabitant – from everyday household tasks to staying connected with others.

This vision will be brought to life through “LIFE / INSTALLED, four minutes to think the future,” an original futurist installation where the home and architecture are no longer at the heart of man’s daily life. Instead, individuals are encouraged to utilize their surrounding spaces through the use of available technology.

“With this installation, we want visitors to rethink what the concept of a home is, and how it is changing through new technologies. Since our design ethos is to create products that are meaningful for our consumers, we hope visitors of this exhibition will gain a new perspective in how our technology can add value to their lives.” - KyungHoon Lee, head of Samsung Design Europe

In the installation, the domestic space is transformed into to a smart house, a dynamic space enhanced through technology. Each room within the home has a piece of furniture and wall coated with a matte grey layer that comes to life – by contrast – through the images and sounds produced by the Samsung tablets. Visitors can thus transform the grey and soundless space into a meaningful and dynamic installation using the GALAXY Tab.

Visitors are encouraged to animate the exhibiting space by placing a Samsung tablet in front of the purposely starkly designed exhibition space, a complex space that serves as a representation of what the future home could look like, and the role technology – such as the Samsung tablet – could play in such a futuristic home environment.
