We know that many of you reading will be nodding in agreement to this. Samsung research has found that our kitchens are the biggest cause of household disputes in Europe, with nearly half (41 per cent) of families, claiming it is the room, which triggers the most arguments.

According to new research* by the team behind the innovative new refrigerator and kitchen organizer, the Samsung Food Showcase, nearly two thirds (60 per cent) of households reveal that not being able to find something in their cupboards or refrigerator is the biggest source of tension in their kitchen.

Despite 84 per cent of Europeans claiming their kitchens are organized, a quarter of adults admit they often pile up items in cupboards or their refrigerator so they are out of sight and 80 per cent say they have to tidy their refrigerator every week to try and keep it organized and presentable.

TOP THREE TENSION TRIGGERS IN EUROPEAN KITCHENS ARE:

1.      Not being able to find something in the cupboard or refrigerator – 60 per cent

2.      Putting back empty packets or cartons in the cupboard or refrigerator – 54 per cent

3.      Not throwing things in the trash when they are past their sell-by date – 49 per cent

Nick Stene, Samsung Home Appliances Product Manager, said: “The kitchen is becoming the center point in many households and the refrigerator is a focal point of the room especially around meal times, so it’s important it is organized so everyone can find what they want, whether it’s a snack, a drink or even ingredients for cooking. If the refrigerator is disorganized and un-presentable it can create tension and frustration between family members, and even be embarrassing when there are guests.”

The research also reveals that more than half of Europeans (53 per cent) would not be comfortable if a guest opened the door of their refrigerator to see its contents. Meanwhile, more than two thirds (69 per cent) of Europeans admit to being so unhappy with the current state of their refrigerator that they would clean or organize it before a guest looked inside.

Nick adds, “When we designed the Samsung Food Showcase, we wanted to make organization almost effortless, which we hope will go a long way towards resolving these issues. We found that food is often bought and organized by one or two people, but every member of the family accesses the refrigerator to look for items. This means they have to rummage around to find what they want and can disorganize its contents in the meantime. Creating zones that optimize space, for example by having a kids zone lower down or a separate, easy-access drinks section, reduces the stress of finding items. Everything has its place, so everyone from children to guests intuitively knows where everything is.”
