Combining timeless design with best-in class technology, Samsung’s newest consumer appliances – from curved Ultra HD televisions to digital appliances like the newly launched WW9000 washing machine and the Food Showcase refrigerator – meet the demands of modern consumers looking for functional, high-end design solutions for their homes.

These innovations have been on extensive global research. For example, to provide the most comfortable and immersive TV experience, Samsung actively studied living rooms all over the world. Observing that the viewer’s TV experience is greatly enhanced at a 4.2m distance from the TV, Samsung introduced the curved 4200R.

In home appliances, Samsung noticed that consumers access the food in their refrigerator in different ways according to their needs and family roles, which led to the design of the Food Showcase refrigerator.

Praising Italy’s design heritage, Boo-Keun Yoon, the Chief Executive and Head of the Corporate Design Center of Samsung Electronics, said that “we at Samsung will always challenge ourselves to offer more creative and innovative design solutions for consumers, to make technology more enjoyable, more beautiful, more convenient.“

Samsung’s WW9000 washing machine “is standing out for its revolutionary looks and unrivalled Full Touch Screen convenience”, while the Food Showcase refrigerator “is a perfect example how Samsung innovation and design are informed by deep research into how families live their real lives,” said Boo-Keun Yoon.

Felix Heck, the Head of Samsung Design Europe, said Samsung’s design was driven by a combination of curiosity, creativity and insight: “We’re driven by a desire to understand how people live their lives so that we can invent the next big thing. With our design centres around the world we go to great lengths to connect with the world in which we live. And it’s this what underpins our motto ‘Make it Meaningful’: all our products have to empower users, and help them express themselves.”

The Samsung Design Hall at Fuorisalone 2014 shows how creative design and technology innovation have become the main drivers of Samsung’s product development.

WW9000 Washing Machine

The WW9000 represents a revolution in washing machine design. Its stand-out feature is its Full Touch Screen, which does away with fiddly controls and simplifies the whole experience of getting the laundry done. The Auto Optimal Wash feature is a technology that actively senses the load size, how dirty the washing is, and the amount of water and detergent required. Based on this information, Auto Optimal Wash selects the best wash cycle, temperature, time, rinse cycle and spin speed. To make it even more convenient, the Auto Dispense feature automatically dispenses the right amount of detergent and softener.

The functionality is complemented by outstanding design, from its side-panels with a streamlined natural ripple effect, to the stunning big crystal blue front door, which has been made larger and raised for easier loading and unloading. The WW9000 is also friendly to the environment. Its ecobubbleTM technology helps the detergent to penetrate the washing faster and makes it possible to wash cool saving energy on every load.

Food Showcase Refrigerator

The Food Showcase refrigerator is a stunning blend of technology, design and functionality – the perfect example how curiosity, creativity and consumer insight come together at Samsung to design outstanding products. Developed after observing at length how real-life families are using the one appliance at the heart of every kitchen – the refrigerator – it helps to make family life more organised.

Its innovative design provides a unique separation of the traditional refrigerator into two storage areas: the ShowCase for instant access to frequently used items and the InnerCase for ingredients that require longer storage. While the organisation of the internal storage space is highly flexible, it suggests three zones: The Cooking Zone for cooking flavours and sauces; the Family Zone for food that is in demand all the time, and the easily accessible Kids Zone, which holds the snacks and drinks that are perfect for children.

The Digital Inverter Technology ensures efficient cooling performance, while a Metal Cooling door at the ShowCase and All-Around Cooling in the InnerCase ensures that all parts of the fridge are at an optimal temperature, regardless how often the fridge is opened and closed. An Ice and Water Dispenser is built into the freezer door, with a space saving design that frees up two additional shelves.

During Fuorisalone (April 8-13th), the Samsung Premium House and the installation “Flows: a Journey to the Future” will be open to the public at Spazio Zegna from 11.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m., except on Thursday April 10th, when they will be open until midnight as part of White Night.

Samsung Club des Chefs

Samsung continues to infuse its kitchen appliances with the knowledge and insight of some of the world’s best chefs. At Fuorisalone 2014, Samsung is inducting renowned Italian Chef Davide Oldani of Cucina POP in Milan to its Club des Chefs team of advisors. The team of Michelin-starred chefs from around the world is advising Samsung design and development teams so that consumers can benefit from appliances that are based on the deep insights of professional chefs, which combined ultimately lead to a richer overall experience in the kitchen.

As a partner of the Milan EXPO 2015 in Milan, Samsung will continue to support the passion of Italian consumers for cooking.
