ENERGY STAR is the government-backed symbol for energy efficiency, providing simple, credible and unbiased information that consumers and businesses rely on to make well-informed decisions in the U.S.

Each year, the ENERGY STAR program honors a select group of businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions in the transition to a clean energy economy. ENERGY STAR award winners lead their industries in the production, sale and adoption of energy-efficient products, homes, buildings, services and strategies. These efforts are essential to fighting the climate crisis, protecting public health and creating a clean energy future for everyone.

“Not only does Samsung’s comprehensive environmental strategy include enterprise-wide net zero and 100% renewable energy goals, but we’re also raising the industry bar even higher on energy efficiency. Samsung is committed to implementing innovative, energy saving technologies in its home appliance, mobile and consumer electronics products — with the goal of lowering power consumption levels by an average of 30 percent by 2030 compared to like products released in 2019,” said Mark Newton, Head of Corporate Sustainability for Samsung Electronics America. “As a long-time ENERGY STAR partner and recipient of the rare Corporate Commitment Award, Samsung is proud to receive these tremendous recognitions from the EPA and DOE. We believe our ENERGY STAR collaboration to be paramount for our company, our customers, and — of course — our planet.”

“As we accelerate historic efforts to address climate change, public-private partnerships will be essential to realizing the scale of our ambition,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “I applaud this year’s ENERGY STAR award winners for working with EPA to deliver a clean energy future that saves American consumers and businesses money and creates jobs.”

The Sustained Excellence Award is the highest honor among ENERGY STAR Awards — and EPA presents the award to partners that have earned successive Partner of the Year awards and display continued leadership by demonstrating long-term commitments to climate action through energy efficiency. This marks the tenth year that Samsung has been named an ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence partner in the Product Brand Owner category.

Beyond the efforts we’re making to minimize our environmental footprint, Samsung is empowering our consumers to make a meaningful impact on the environment through everyday changes with our eco-conscious products. In 2022, Samsung had 474 ENERGY STAR certified base models in the U.S., which is an increase compared to 2021. As of 2022, that includes 100% of Samsung dishwashers, notebooks, air purifiers, front-load washers and most of our refrigerators, as well as many of our top-load washers and dryers. Samsung’s investment in America is also tied to ENERGY STAR: all our front load and top load washers from our South Carolina facility are ENERGY STAR certified. Moreover, Samsung is the first major brand to certify many of its new Ultra HD 4K televisions to the latest ENERGY STAR criteria. As of 2022, Samsung global product efficiency improvements, as exemplified by our commitment to ENERGY STAR certified products, have helped our customers avoid an estimated 334 million metric tons of CO2 emissions through the use of our products since 2009 — the equivalent of taking over 71 million cars off the road for a year, nearly three quarters of all passenger cars registered in the U.S.

Moreover, Samsung’s efforts to enrich and expand SmartThings Energy, the first-of-its-kind solution designed to help people better understand and manage their energy use so that they can make smarter, more environmentally conscious decisions about consumption and reduce their carbon footprint, have led the U.S. EPA to award Samsung the industry’s first mass-market Smart Home Energy Management Systems (SHEMS) certification. The certification recognizes smart home appliances and services that manage and automate connected devices to help consumers gain insights into their energy use, thereby inspiring energy-saving behavior, reducing costs and helping to facilitate demand response measures that minimize stress on the grid.

The Sustained Excellence award for Energy Management is bestowed on ENERGY STAR partners that demonstrate year over year excellence in improving the energy performance of commercial buildings through a corporate-wide, portfolio-based energy program. Samsung Electronics America has a diverse portfolio of 45 owned and leased buildings located across the U.S. In addition to varying climates, the many buildings are also home to one or more distinct corporate activities from offices to warehouses and distributions centers to electronic and appliance labs. In 2022, Samsung doubled down on our commitment to ENERGY STAR and continued to retrofit major systems in some of our facilities with ENERGY STAR certified equipment and technologies related to HVAC and lighting controls. These continued investments reduce the impact on the climate by our facility operations and have led to an 8.6% reduction in energy use since 2019.

Another testament to our efforts was demonstrated by doubling the number of ENERGY STAR Tenant Space Recognitions in 2022 from six to twelve. This number ranks second nationally for most recognized Tenant Space properties with Samsung representing 17.39% of the total properties recognized nationally.

Samsung is humbled and honored by these recognitions from the ENERGY STAR program and is committed to advanced energy efficiency in our products and operations as part of our key environmental goals and a shared journey to helping mitigate our consumers’ impact on the planet.

Underscoring our environmental leadership, Samsung Electronics America today received two 2022 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Samsung honors include our ninth Sustained Excellence Award for Product Brand Owner and our second Partner of the Year Award for Energy Management, recognizing the company’s outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through exceptional product innovations and achievements in operational energy efficiency. These 2022 recognitions demonstrate Samsung’s continued successes in energy efficiency from products to operations, building on the company’s landmark accomplishments in 2021. The latest accolades come on the heels of the rare and prestigious Corporate Commitment Award received in 2021 for Samsung’s long-standing and multi-faceted commitment to demonstrating leadership and partnership across the ENERGY STAR program, mitigating climate change and providing efficient solutions in support of our customers’ goals.

The EPA’s ENERGY STAR program has been America’s resource for saving both energy and money, as well as protecting the climate, for 30 years. As part of its annual ENERGY STAR Awards, the EPA honors businesses and organizations for leading their industries in the creation of energy-efficient products and services, and in the development and adoption of strategies that provide substantial energy savings in buildings.

“Sustainability is core to Samsung’s mission and we have an obligation to help stem the effects of climate change and preserve our planet for future generations. These accolades from the EPA reflect our ongoing efforts to reduce our impact through our efficient ENERGY STAR products, as well as through our reduced energy footprint in the built environment,” said Mark Newton, Head of Corporate Sustainability for Samsung Electronics America. “We’re proud to promote the EPA ENERGY STAR program and are thrilled to be recognized for our leadership in delivering sustainable innovations to our customers and supporting a clean and efficient energy economy in our operations.”

“We know it’s going to take all of us working together to tackle the climate crisis, and the 2022 ENERGY STAR award-winning partners are demonstrating what it takes to build a more sustainable future,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “These companies are showing once again that taking action in support of a clean energy economy can be good not only for the environment, but also for business and customers.”

The Sustained Excellence Award for Product Brand Owner represents a prominent honor granted by the ENERGY STAR program. It’s awarded to ENERGY STAR partners that have made a long-term commitment to fighting the climate crisis by providing and promoting energy efficient products to consumers and demonstrating leadership in energy efficiency. This marks the ninth year that Samsung has been named an ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence partner in the Product Brand Owner category.

As a global technology leader, Samsung believes that consumers should have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the environment through everyday changes — and those changes include the opportunity to purchase energy efficient products that offer savings on energy bills without sacrificing performance, features or comfort. In 2021, Samsung had 381 ENERGY STAR base models in the U.S., which is an increase of 25% compared to 2020. Moreover, all of Samsung’s PCs, dishwashers, front load clothes washers and air purifiers are ENERGY STAR certified. Samsung is committed to energy efficiency innovation and that is why the company won the 2021 ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology Award for Advanced Adaptive Compressors in the refrigerator category and the 2022 Emerging Technology Award for Induction Cooking Tops. These awards recognize groundbreaking technologies that advance energy efficiency significantly. Globally, Samsung product efficiency innovations have helped our customers avoid an estimated 301 million tons of CO2 emissions since 2009, the equivalent of removing more than 65 million cars off the road.

The Partner of the Year for Energy Management Award is given to ENERGY STAR partners that can demonstrate excellence in improving the energy performance of buildings and plants through a corporate-wide, portfolio-based energy program. From offices to warehouses and distribution centers, to electronic and appliance labs, Samsung Electronics America has a diverse portfolio of 41 buildings located across the country. As of 2021, the company has received ENERGY STAR Tenant Space recognition for seven leased spaces. As of 2021, this number ranked second nationally for most recognized properties within Tenant Space. As a result, Samsung Electronics America represented about 19% of the total properties recognized nationally within Tenant Space.

In addition to the Tenant Space effort, Samsung is meeting previous commitments for energy demand mitigation by retrofitting facilities with ENERGY STAR certified equipment, fixtures and products, as well as powering all facilities in the U.S., including manufacturing, with 100% renewable energy. Moreover, in 2021, Samsung enjoyed a continued reduction in electricity consumption from 2020 resulting in a 10% reduction in Weather Normalized Site Energy Use Intensity (kBtu/ft2).

Samsung’s commitment to energy efficient products and operations is a critical aspect of the company’s efforts to tackle climate change. The company looks forward to our continued efforts in ensuring consumers can make a meaningful impact on the environment through everyday changes, including by focusing on energy efficiency.

Samsung Electronics today announced it has received two awards of distinctions for the company’s ongoing sustainability efforts from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA has recognized Samsung’s innovative sustainable practices each year since the Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) Program’s inception in 2014. The latest recognitions include a Gold Tier Award, the EPA’s highest award in recycling, for Samsung’s leadership in the responsible recycling of electronic waste (e-waste) and a Champion Award in the Program Category for the Galaxy S10 eco-packaging.

The EPA annually recognizes the top performers within its SMM Program. SMM Electronics Challenge participants are rethinking product life cycles, committing to innovative and responsible electronics management, and reducing environmental impacts. The 2020 SMM Electronics Challenge Award winners will be recognized at a virtual award ceremony later today.

“Samsung is humbled by the EPA’s recognition of our long-term commitment to the proper collection and recycling of e-waste in the United States and the sustainable design innovations that we continue to drive in product packaging,” said Mark Newton, Head of Corporate Sustainability for Samsung Electronics America. “We will continue to make investments to further our environmental stewardship practices and reduce our impact on climate change as we strive towards a greener and better tomorrow.”

“The Electronics Challenge award winners are corporate role models creating new products that show environmental improvement can go hand-in-hand with other technological advances. EPA encourages others to follow their lead by implementing similar innovative approaches,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan.

Samsung is one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers and fully embraces the responsibility that comes with our market position to effect change on a large scale to protect the environment. The EPA SMM Gold Tier Award acknowledges our excellence in e-waste collection throughout the U.S. Samsung annually collects and recycles approximately 100 million pounds of e-waste. Since 2008, we’ve recycled over a billion pounds of electronics, diverting them from U.S. landfills and recovering reusable materials.

The EPA SMM Champion Award in the Program Category recognizes Samsung’s innovative Galaxy S10 packaging strategies for its use of material in a more environmentally responsible way. The smartphone’s plastic-free box and interior packaging have been redesigned to reduce its environmental footprint and consume fewer resources. For example, the packaging includes an all-in-one pulp mold for the device and its components to minimize waste. Other adjustments include replacing plastic ties with paper materials. These design change have contributed to making the Galaxy S10’s packaging 32g lighter than that of its predecessors – a 16% packaging weight reduction.

The prestigious award was Samsung’s second win of the evening in the ‘Excellence in the Provision of Literacy and Education’ category, following Samsung Southeast Asia’s silver, and represents Samsung’s continued commitment to enriching the communities in which it operates.

Now in their ninth year, the Global CSR Summit and Awards honor outstanding examples of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which include efforts that drive change and contribute to the improvement of communities.

The program that garnered Samsung its award was the Samsung Tech Institute, which provides opportunities for Indonesia’s bright young minds to develop in-demand vocational skills. The initiative helps students secure work, and ultimately aids the country’s efforts to reduce its unemployment rate.

Samsung Tech Institutes actively collaborate with youth centers and vocational schools to provide learning facilities and develop a training curriculum that will arm students with customer service and electronics skills, such as how to fix mobile phones, air conditioners, TVs, refrigerators and washing machines.

Since opening its doors in 2011, the program has graduated over 2,500 students. Around 600 have gone on to secure jobs, including opportunities at Samsung Service Centers and a Samsung plant in Cikarang. The program has also been recognized by Indonesia’s Ministry of Education and Culture as well as its Ministry of Social Affairs for its contributions to efforts to reduce poverty and unemployment.

To date, seven Samsung Tech Institutes have been established in Indonesia – in Cikarang, Jakarta, Medan, Makassar, Banjarmasin, Kendal and Madiun – and Samsung plans to launch two additional facilities this year. Over 1,000 students are currently enrolled in the program, continuing their higher education and strengthening their technical skills.

“Samsung sees education as the seeds of innovation, and we are working to create programs that support youth education and vocational training through the use of our technology, services and expertise,” said Lee Kanghyun, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Samsung Electronics Indonesia. “The Global CSR Summit Award 2017 that we have just received is encouragement for us to continue other Samsung corporate citizenship programs that we hope will be beneficial for many people in Indonesia.”

“At Samsung, we are constantly working to improve with each product we make,” said Gregory Lee, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics North America. “We are honored that CTA and the industry have recognized our ongoing commitment to innovation in many areas, and we look forward to showcasing our latest offerings at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show.”

The PM971 is 15 times as fast as typical hard disk drives. Furthermore, the industry’s first BGA NVMe SSD triples the performance of a typical SATA SSD, within the industry’s smallest storage dimensions, with capacity reaching up to 512GB per drive.

Samsung Electronics won 29 awards, including “Creative Marketer of the Year,” at the recent Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The awards highlight Samsung’s deliberate focus on meaningful consumer-centric campaigns, as well as the company’s continued contributions to creativity and excellence in marketing.

Samsung was recognized for eleven unique marketing campaigns, each designed to demonstrate the company’s vision of enriching people’s lives and creating a better world through innovative technology and products. The company’s overarching commitment to creativity and inspiring marketing across the eleven campaigns helped Samsung become the first Korean company to be recognized as the “Creative Marketer of the Year.”

Two of Samsung’s winning campaigns, brainBAND and Voices of Life, were part of the company’s larger – and highly acclaimed – Launching People brand campaign. Launching People has been widely celebrated throughout the creative industry, including at last year’s Cannes Lions, for its innovative approach to demonstrating social value and engaging consumers to share their ideas with Samsung in pursuit of their dreams.

brainBAND, a wearable solution for prevention and monitoring of concussions during high impact sports, was one of the festival’s major winners. The campaign took home six awards including the Gold award in the Use of New Technology category. Voices of Life, an application solution that allows premature babies in an incubator to listen Mon’s voice and heart beat and feel closer to Mom, won Silver award in the Online Video category, recognized with its touching story. Blind Cap, a wearable band and swimming cap that alerts visually impaired swimmers as they approach the end of a lane, won two awards including Gold in Activation by Proximity category.

A solar-powered charging station for electric cars, a smartwatch app for pedestrian safety and prosthetic devices for veterans were among the winning projects of this year’s Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest. Students from the public schools named National Winners earlier this month were honored at an annual awards luncheon attended by congressional leaders.

The contest challenges students in grades 6 through 12 nationwide to use their STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills to innovate a solution to a problem affecting in their community. This year, the Grand Prize Winners were selected from a pool of more than 4,100 school groups that submitted ideas last October for how they would apply STEM to making a difference.

The awards luncheon was held at Top of the Hill Banquet & Conference Center at the Reserve Officers Association in Washington, D.C. Welcome remarks were provided by the Korean ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Ahn Ho-Young. He said: “Programs like Solve for Tomorrow are a great way to highlight the important role STEM skills play in solving the challenges our communities face. The talent, creativity and compassion for their neighbors that this year’s winners have shown makes me more confident than ever in our shared future together.”

In addition to honoring the students, Samsung recognized Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), Chairman Michael T. McCaul (R-TX), Representative Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and Representative Jared Polis (D-CO) for their commitment to STEM education in K-12 schools nationwide, naming them Samsung Solve for Tomorrow STEM Champions.

“As someone who grew up in poverty, I know full well the power of education,” said Scott. “That’s why I fully support the STEM education motto, because I’ve seen firsthand the amazing things that can come from these programs.”

McCaul and Polis received their awards in person.

“I am honored to receive this distinction from Samsung, but the true recognition goes to the students and teachers committed to STEM education and breakthroughs,” said McCaul. “With great programs like ‘Solve for Tomorrow’ and its participants, I am more confident than ever that America’s scientific, technological, engineering, and mathematics future are bright.”

Keynote speaker Mick Ebeling, CEO of Not Impossible Labs, spoke about his company’s mission “Technology for the Sake of Humanity,” to provide tech-based solutions to help people with disabilities and illnesses around the world live fuller lives. Not Impossible Labs engineers and makers have used STEM to create affordable and unique healthcare tools, such as the acclaimed Eyewriter, which helped a paraplegic street artist to draw again after seven years. “Commit, then figure it out” was Ebeling’s advice for the invention process, adding, “If you fail, it’s okay – that means you’re one step closer to finding the solution.”

While in Washington, D.C., the winners also had the opportunity to meet with their respective congressional representatives and present their projects.

“We are so happy to give the students this opportunity to show their congressional representatives what they have been working on,” said Ann Woo, senior director of Corporate Citizenship at Samsung Electronics America. “Their projects, while addressing local issues, could have an impact on communities across the country. We are also humbled to be among members of Congress as well as industry leaders who are also working to make a difference through STEM.”

The Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest was created in 2010 to bridge the gap in STEM education in public schools across the United States. Since its inception, the contest has awarded more than $17 million* in technology and prizes to more than 1,000 schools.

Imagine a cutting-edge 56-inch TV that is more than 21 inches (55 centimeters) deep and weighs 134 pounds (61 kilograms). Or a cutting-edge mobile phone with a screen that is 128×160 pixels. Those specs may seem surprising now, but it was not long ago that those devices were so advanced they won Samsung Best of Innovation awards at CES—in 2004 for the TV and 2003 for the phone. But that is the nature of innovation, with each leap forward soon overtaken by the next one.

With more than 300 CES Innovations Awards over the past decade, including 22 Best of Innovation awards, Samsung Electronics has long led the way at the famous consumer electronics event. Since 2007, CES has recognized more than 50 of Samsung’s TVs, 50 mobile devices and accessories and 20 processors and memory components, firmly establishing the company as a tech leader. In addition, Samsung has won CES Innovation Awards for a wide range of its other devices, such as wearables, home appliances, virtual reality, healthcare devices and the Internet of Things (IoT).

But after so many years, the concept of “cutting edge” has changed significantly.

9 Times the Resolution—The Evolution of ‘Cutting-Edge’

Samsung has come a long way since it first started attending CES in the 1980s and actually won several dozen Innovation Awards in the 1990s for its TVs, VCRs, fax machines and microwave ovens. But since the turn of the new millennium, the company really amped up its advances.

Samsung TV picked up Best of Innovation awards in 2002—for its 24-inch TFT-LCD TV monitor—and in 2004 for the aforementioned HLP-5685W rear-projection DLP (digital light processing) TV. While today, nearly all TVs on the market are LCDs and high definition, back in 2002 it was still novel, making the TFT-LCD a premium product, even at 24 inches.

The HLP-5685W DLP TV was also hailed for its quality when it arrived, even though its screen resolution was just 720p. As a DLP screen, the 56-inch TV was big, measuring more than 58 inches wide, 58 inches high and 21 inches deep (147 centimeters by 147 centimeters by 55 centimeters). The TV was also recognized for being “light,” despite checking in at 61 kilograms.

HLP-5685W DLP TV (left), JS9500 SUHD TV (right)

In contrast, the JS9500, Samsung’s latest SUHD TV, has nine times the resolution of that 2004 DLP and is just a fraction of the weight, with tiny frames and incredibly thin body. And, of course, with the advances in display technology, like high dynamic range (HDR), Nano Crystal Color and Multi-Zone Full Array Backlighting, the quality of the screens today cannot be compared.

Mobile phones have also seen radical changes over the years. In 2003, Samsung won a Best of Innovation award for its SGH v205 flip phone. Back then, state-of-the-art meant a 128X160 pixel screen in a device that was 23 millimeters thick, with the ability to hold 500 phone numbers and a 16-bit color palette. Today, Samsung’s flagship phone, the Galaxy S6 edge+ has a crystal-clear Super AMOLED screen with 2,560×1,440 pixels and a body that is 6.9 millimeters thick—needless to say, the Galaxy S6 edge+ is also a Best of Innovation winner at CES 2016.

SGH v205 Flip Phone (left), Galaxy S6 edge+ (right)

Memory and processors are also fields where Samsung has long led the way. In 2009, Samsung won an Innovation Award for its S3C6410 application processor, a System on Chip (SoC) microprocessor with a low-power, specialized architecture for use in embedded systems, like digital cameras, smart TVs and set-top boxes.

Samsung also picked up a record-setting four consecutive Innovation Awards for its mobile DRAM, for its 2Gb LPDDR3 in 2013, the 3Gb LPDDR3 in 2014 and the 4Gb LPDDR4 in 2015, along with a 2016 Innovation Award for the 12 Gb LPDDR4.

Memory storage devices are also completely different from a decade ago. Samsung’s first solid state drive won an Innovation Award in 2008, then offering 64GB of memory with read/write speeds of 100MB per second. But the 2016 Best of Innovation-winning 850 PRO is now 2TB, with a sequential read speed of up to 550MB per second and write speed of 520MB per second. Another Best of Innovation winner at the 2016 CES, the 512GB 950 PRO SSD, offers read speeds of 2,500MB per second and write speeds of 1,500MB per second.

Leading the Way with Best of Innovation Awards

YA-BS900 Bluetooth Speakers (left), MBP200 Projector TV (right)

Over the past decade, Samsung has won 22 Best of Innovation awards—including five in 2009 alone—demonstrating the company’s dedication to always pushing the limits of consumer technology. While TVs have been a mainstay of this category, Samsung has also been recognized for a range of innovations.

In 2008, Samsung won for its Bluetooth speakers (YA-BS900), and the next year it picked up an award for its projector TV (MBP200). Three years in a row, from 2009 to 2011, it won Best of Innovation awards for its Blu-Ray players. For 2016, Samsung is extending its success to wireless handsets for the Galaxy S6 edge+ and wearables for the Gear S2.

Putting the ‘Planet First’ with Eco-Friendly Innovations

As part of its innovations, Samsung has long put a premium on the environment, too, as reflected in the company’s many Eco Design awards since 2009. That year, Samsung was awarded two Eco Design awards, for its LCD46B600 TV and its WF448 washing machine. Since then, the company has also been recognized for its phones, memory devices, oven ranges, microwaves, smart light bulbs, printers and more, with more than 20 Eco Design awards. That commitment continues this year, with the latest TV model winning an Eco Design award, too.

WF448 Washing Machine

The Dedication to Progress Continues

Today, Samsung’s leadership across consumer electronics continues. This year’s 38 CES Innovation Award winners include the Internet of Things (for the SmartThings Hub and SleepSense Sleep Monitor), a mobile home entertainment unit (Galaxy View) and virtual reality device (Gear VR).

Having won so many awards from CES over the past decade, Samsung has shown a continued dedication to developing the next-generation of technology. But none of these advances were innovation for innovation’s sake. It has always been about putting consumers first, and offering the best possible experiences for them.

Samsung Electronics has received one of the most prestigious awards for environmental sustainability in recognition of its reduction of the carbon footprint of its flagship Galaxy S smartphones.

On October 8, Samsung won the Best in Product Carbon Footprint Prize at the Carbon Trust Standard and Label Bearers Conference and Awards 2015, held by Carbon Trust of the United Kingdom.

Carbon Trust’s performance awards have been presented annually for four years, recognizing companies and products that have shown outstanding results in carbon reduction. The win by Samsung is a first for the consumer electronics industry, the result of a reduction in carbon emissions of the Galaxy S smartphones.

Samsung began working with the Carbon Trust in 2012, pledging to certify the carbon footprint of all models within its flagship Galaxy smartphone range. The Galaxy S2 was the first to be certified in 2012, and all Galaxy S and Galaxy Note smartphones up to, including the Galaxy S5, have also been certified. The carbon emission level of the Galaxy S5 has been reduced by 37 percent compared to the Galaxy S2.

Throughout each product’s life cycle, from product development to disposal, Samsung Electronics analyzes carbon emissions at each stage and makes efforts to reduce the environmental footprints of its products.

Wouter van Tol, European Head of Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability at Samsung Electronics said, “As the world’s leading manufacturer of smartphones, we have a responsibility to minimize our environmental footprint. Being recognized for substantially reducing greenhouse emissions across our flagship range of Galaxy smartphones is a great honor. This is thanks to our PlanetFirst approach, where we consider the environmental impact of everything we manufacture, right from the start. We are committed to an on-going program of lowering our impact on the environment, and look forward to making even further progress in this area in the future.”

Samsung Electronics has won eight prizes – two golds, four silvers, and two bronzes – at the Clio Awards, one of the three major international advertising events, alongside the Cannes Lions and New York Festivals.

Samsung’s Safety Truck was first implemented as a solution to prevent car accidents in Argentina. It later achieved two gold Clios in the Digital and Out of Home categories, and three silver Clios in the Direct, Engagement/Experiential, and Innovative categories. Earlier in June, Safety Truck was also awarded one Titanium, three gold and three silver at the Cannes Lions.

Argentina is a country where the traffic-related accident rate is among the highest in the world, mainly because most highways have just two lanes. By addressing this issue, Safety Truck provided four digital signage panels on the back doors of the trailer to show what is in front of the truck, so that faster vehicles can overtake safely.

Look At Me, a training program for children with autism, consists of a mobile application and app-related activity programs that help autistic children make eye contact and communicate better. Look At Me has won one silver and two bronze prizes in the Digital, Direct, and Engagement/Experiential categories.

“Our brand motto is to place the top priority on the value of consumers’ lives, and that ethos was recognized at the Clio Awards, following the achievements in Cannes,” said Dr. WP Hong, President and Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Electronics. “Samsung will continue to deliver innovative campaigns that will make a genuine difference in consumers’ lives.”

This year marks the 56th anniversary of the Clio Awards. The annual award program assesses the creative excellence of the world’s leading companies’ brand campaigns across various categories including Digital, Out of Home, Content and Contract and Engagement/Experiential.

In 2014, Samsung had set a record of picking up five silvers and five bronzes for its seven brand campaigns including Power Sleep and S-Drive. Power Sleep is an app that turns smartphones all over the world into a network computer, and app users can donate the computing power of their smartphones for scientific research of diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer. The S-Drive program is an initiative to create the next generation of safe drivers by preventing smartphones from being a distraction on the road and turning them into safe driving tools that reward young people for driving safely.

Samsung Electronics announced that it has received eight Outstanding Achievement awards—seven for its SMART MultiXpress series—at the Buyers Laboratory (BLI) 2015 Summer Awards.

The awards for Samsung Electronics went to the entire line of the SMART MultiXpress 7 Series (X7600, X7500, X7400, K7600, K7500, K7400) for the “Outstanding A3 Monochrome MFP” and “Outstanding A3 Color MFP” categories in the following speed segments: 51 to 60 ppm, 41 to 50 ppm, and 31 to 40 ppm.

Another SMART MultiXpress model, the K4350LX, won in the “Outstanding 31- to 40-ppm A3 Monochrome MFP” category. Additionally, the SMART ProXpress M4580/M4583FX, an A4 MFP series, won in the “Outstanding Achievement in the MFP for Mid-size to Large Workgroups” category.

“Buyers looking for highly reliable MFPs with top-notch print output need to look no further than Samsung’s MultiXpress color X7400, X7500 and X7600 Series, and monochrome K7400, K7500 and K7600 Series,” said George Mikolay, Senior Product Editor at BLI.

The X color models produced high quality graphics and images, and the K monochrome models received BLI’s highest rating in every print quality category tested. Both the color and monochrome models showed fast scanning speeds, with duplex mode scanning twice to three times as fast as other models in the market.

SMART MultiXpress, a new printing ecosystem

The MultiXpress 7 series distinguishes itself with the quad-core CPU and dual-scan document feeder, printing a page per second and scanning four pages every second, respectively. The MultiXpress 4 series runs on a dual-core processor, printing 45 pages per minute. It also features the fast-scanning dual-scan document feeder.

All of Samsung’s SMART MultiXpress models come with the Smart UX Center, an Android-based user interface that offers a smart touch user experience and printing apps designed to create a seamless printing workflow.

“We are thrilled to receive the Outstanding A3 Monochrome MFP award for four speed segments,” said David SW Song, Senior Vice President of Strategy Marketing and Sales, Printing Solutions at Samsung Electronics. “Based on our philosophy of providing an efficient printing ecosystem, we will continue innovating new products and solutions that offer customization for enhanced productivity and cost savings.”

The ProXpress M4580/M4583 wins for ease of use and customization

The ProXpress M4580/M4583 Series was recognized for its excellence as an MFP for mid-to-large sized workgroups.

“The ProXpress M4580FX completed 200,000 impressions with no jams or issues, so users can expect maximum uptime,” said Marlene Orr, Senior Analyst at BLI. “This, along with robust scanning, an Android-based control panel that offers exceptional customization to boost flexibility and ease of use, and a low cost of ownership make ProXpress M4580FX an excellent choice for mid-to-large sized workgroups.”

Samsung has won BLI’s “Monochrome Printer/MFP Line of the Year” award three times since 2012, placing the brand on the map as a strong player in the monochrome category.

“Our customers’ loyalty and resounding appreciation for our products is a testament to our commitment to the user,” said David SW Song. “Many large businesses are opting for A4 MFPs these days in lieu of the larger and more expensive A3 devices, and we will continue meeting the needs of this market by offering similarly distinguished and robust A4 printers.”

Samsung Electronics received the largest number of awards at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2015, one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions. The eight awards include one gold award, three silver awards and four bronze awards.

Founded in 1980 organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America, IDEA is one of the most influential design competitions recognizing creative and innovative designs.

Samsung’s award winners for this year encompass various categories ranging from home appliances to mobile phone accessories, such as the virtual reality headset – the Gear VR. Other winners include a dishwasher with a new water spraying mechanism, and the LED Flip Wallet. All of these products showcase an innovative aspect of Samsung’s business.

This year, the following item won gold award:

NX mini – A mirrorless camera with exchangeable lenses. It is 22.5mm thick and weighs 158g. By reinterpreting the essence of traditional cameras via a contemporary perspective, the NX mini shows a simple, classic design that is timeless.

This year, the following items won silver awards:

WaterWall Dishwasher – A dishwasher that features an effective spray bar that achieves corner to corner coverage of dishes inside in a way that rotary bars cannot. By introducing Flextray, a removable rubber pad where silverware and cooking utensils can be laid out flat and easily washed. The rubber pad can then be easily removed to move all of the silverware after the wash.

LED Flip Wallet – The world’s first smartphone cover that displays information and messages from a smartphone with its LED display.

Digital Appliance Design Philosophy Framework – A sentimental and relatable story that can be understood by anyone via familiar media, such as videos and books. It is used to promote the design direction of Samsung home appliances.
