In this first installment of ‘People Behind Bespoke’, Harry Choi, Head of Design for Digital Appliances at Samsung Electronics, discusses the origin of the Bespoke design philosophy and the role that it plays in creating appliances fit for every lifestyle.

Our homes are full of expressive elements. Everything from the architecture and the furniture to the decorative objects we place helps us express our individuality. However, even though they feature prominently in the interior, home appliances are still largely designed with a standardized approach.

If no two homes are the same, why should our appliances be? This was the simple question that sparked the idea for Samsung’s Bespoke – a lineup of home appliances designed to be a part of a person’s home décor, reflecting their aesthetic preferences and elements of identity. We focused on creating home appliances that are not just beautiful, but are also customizable so as to harmonize with all kinds of interior spaces, no matter the style.

The Birth of Bespoke

Our journey to elevate the design of home appliances began in the kitchen, a central space for many social activities in the home. The refrigerator is often the most visible and most used appliance in this social space, and yet, its design has largely been in stasis for many years.

With our Bespoke refrigerators, our aim was to elevate the design of refrigerators without compromising the reliable functionality and performance that Samsung products are known for. Taking inspiration from contemporary urban lifestyles and aesthetic trends, our designers created an expansive palette of colors for the refrigerator’s customizable door panels. They also developed unconventional finishes, such as matte steel and glass, to bring new textures to refrigerators and open up new possibilities for kitchen design.

But the Bespoke design philosophy goes beyond just colors and finishes. With a modular, built-in look, Bespoke refrigerators can be tailored to fit seamlessly into different kitchen layouts. Bespoke design has broken down the price barrier of built-in appliances and now, design is able to listen more closely to the consumer. By mixing and matching different modules, users can create Bespoke refrigerators that provide the right functionality for their lifestyle, dietary habits, and family size.

Creating Bespoke Lifestyles and Living Spaces

Building on the design and development process of the Bespoke refrigerator, we are now ready to bring the Bespoke design philosophy to the rest of the home, empowering users to create ideal living spaces while simplifying their everyday routines.

Take the Bespoke Cube air purifier, for example, which features a sleek, modern design that comes in various colors and interchangeable front grills in patterns like stripe and herringbone. The Bespoke Cube air purifiers are beautiful additions to any room, complementing your interior décor while quietly working to keep air quality safe.

Furthermore, the Bespoke Jet was designed with portability in mind. Unlike larger appliances, vacuums are meant to be carried around the house – but they are often hidden away when they are not being used. Designed for You: Delving Into Bespoke

Understanding that interior design is a passion point for many Bespoke users, Bespoke Studio is an all-new way for users in any part of the world to come together and share their passion virtually. Visitors to Bespoke Studio will be able to enjoy the full gamut of the user-centric showroom experience – right from their devices.

Starting from Bespoke Studio’s Virtual Showroom page, users are able to go on a virtual journey through a true-to-life Bespoke showroom. Not only are products organized in ways that provide a true taste of how Bespoke appliances work in different environments, but users can also easily interact with products to learn more, and even connect to a live assistant to ask questions.

Once they are satisfied with their choice, users can easily move through to the Configurator page, which grants complete customization over the product selected so that each user can be sure that their Bespoke device is unique to their tastes. What’s more, once the user has customized their device exactly to their preferences, they can then directly purchase that product online through Bespoke Studio.

Bespoke Studio also features a Community page, a dedicated space where users can come together to submit their own media content, learn more about Bespoke from leading lifestyle experts and see what’s next in their region regarding upcoming online and social events.

Bringing Bespoke to Life

In order to ensure that Bespoke Studio is able to offer the same experience as a consumer might get offline, Samsung harnessed innovative technologies to generate a 3D virtual tour based on its flagship Bespoke showroom in Gangnam, Korea. This showroom features the largest offline lineup of Bespoke products in the world, meaning that Bespoke Studio, too, offers users the full Bespoke experience.

So that users can have all the information they need at their fingertips, the UI of Bespoke Studio has been designed to be as easy-to-use as possible, as well as being fully interactive so as to provide as much information to users as they need.

When users enter the Bespoke Studio page, a helpful virtual guide appears to inform users on how to make the most of the Studio. When touring the virtual showroom, clicking on dedicated ‘hot spots’ will provide a pop-up menu of further product information; some products even feature video introductions, and for even more information on a product, users are able to connect in real-time to sales assistants. Bespoke Studio will launch in the UK in October 2021, in the US in January 2022, and in other regions further down the line.

To celebrate the release of Samsung’s latest Bespoke lineup, the company is collaborating with three artists and brands – Thibaud Hérem, Andy Rementer and HAY – to highlight how the Bespoke refrigerator’s wide range of color and panel choices lets users bring creativity and personal flair into their home spaces.

The third artist from this collaboration project to be spotlighted is Danish lifestyle brand HAY. Founded by creative directors Mette and Rolf Hay, HAY is committed to working with top designers from all over the world. Inspired by nature and the natural ingredients commonly found in refrigerators, HAY has created five new colors exclusively for Samsung’s Bespoke panels. Those colors are Cream, Squama, Dusty Blueberry, Artichoke and Cabbage.

In the exclusive video and Q&A below, Mette Hay explains more about what went into the five exclusive colors that HAY designed for the Bespoke refrigerator line.

Q: Can you talk a bit about who you are and what you do?

I’m Mette Hay, the co-founder of HAY, a design company based in Copenhagen, Denmark. I started HAY with my husband Rolf almost 20 years ago.

Q: What is HAY all about? What should the world know about your designs?

Rolf and I had a vision of a company that works with the world’s best designers and manufacturers to create affordable, high-quality products.

Rolf has a passion for furniture. For me, it’s more about the small things; the things you hold in your hands every day. There is no project that is too small or simple for me. It excites me to find a gap in our industry; an item where there has been no other product like it from a design point of view. That’s one of the reasons I was so excited about our collaboration with Samsung.

Color very much informs my work. Most brands will select colors for a year or a season; at HAY we choose colors for each individual product. I feel that the product itself is what dictates the colors, and that they are an essential part of the design.

Q: Why collaborate with Samsung? What does the Samsung brand represent to you?

When I think of Samsung, I think of a global company that makes high-quality, technical products. It’s very different from what we do at HAY, but we still have this overlap when it comes to our sense of quality.

I was excited when Samsung contacted us to create a color scale for their new Bespoke Collection. As I said, I like to work with everyday objects, and this gave me the opportunity to do that.

Samsung was running a beautiful exhibition in Milan when we met them in 2019. After I had seen the exhibition, the decision to work with them became an easy one to make.

Q: What has it been like collaborating with Samsung?

In order for a collaboration to be successful, both parties need to bring something special to the table. HAY brings a fresh eye to this project, and Samsung likes our style and approach to color.

This isn’t the first time we’ve collaborated with another brand on a color scale for an existing product. It’s a fun and interesting way to work.

We always do an individual color scale for each new product; we start from scratch with colors. And that’s because, for me, the colors and the item itself go hand-in-hand.

Q: Can you talk a bit about the color choices for the fridges? Why is color important in a kitchen?

It didn’t take me long to decide that the colors of the HAY Bespoke Collection should connect back to the foods we typically have in our fridges.

We therefore started by looking at different categories of ingredients. This resulted in us establishing blue, green and cream tones. All the colors we settled on work well in all kinds of kitchens; home kitchens, office kitchens and even in HAY House’s own kitchen. They’re colors that will stand out but aren’t overpowering. The various elements can also be combined in different ways depending on what the customer wants, which is very useful.

Q: How do you hope people will react to this collaboration? What would you like them to say about it?

I hope that people will be able to see HAY’s unique touch in the Bespoke Collection. HAY is known for bright colors; but in this case, it was really important to me that the palette we chose was something that I’d be happy with in my own kitchen.

An item like a fridge – a straightforward, everyday item – can be a design object too. Its design shouldn’t be overwhelming, because it’s going to be so central to your kitchen. It should absolutely bring you joy though.

The second artist of this collaboration project being spotlighted is American pop artist Andy Rementer. Inspired by vintage typography and flea-market finds, Rementer’s unique compositions feature human and animal protagonists depicted in bright colors with wild patterns for a witty feel – often with a dark edge. Rementer’s design for the Bespoke 4-Door Flex is available in the United States on Samsung.com.

Q: You are known for your distinct and colorful artwork style. Would you say that your work is primarily influenced by the people and places you encounter?

I get a lot of inspiration from the characters I encounter in the streets, as well as from figurative paintings from art history. Generally, I don’t aim to illustrate real people and instead try to depict a more simplified, graphic version of a character within my visual world.

Q: Your visual language encompasses various mediums and subjects, but one thing that remains consistent across all your mediums seems to be your love for patterns and color. Where do you draw inspiration from for your patterns?

I love discovering patterns from visual media such as fashion, signage and architecture, and enjoy putting my own spin on them. I may include anything from a polka dot pattern spotted on a vintage dress to an unusual brick texture I encountered on the façade of a building. I find that patterns are a great way to add texture and dimension to flat mediums.

Q: How did you find the collaboration process? Was there anything in particular that was different from the way you usually work?

I have never created artwork for an appliance before, especially for one as important as the refrigerator. My process involved considering the unique shape of the final object as well as its function in the home, so I found it interesting to consider how to create images that are to be seen multiple times throughout the day by different sets of eyes, at different heights and at different angles.

Q: What was your focus during this collaboration project? Please tell us about the theme and messaging you wanted to convey to the domestic space through your special edition designs.

In all of the designs I created, there are characters depicted in different situations. Some of them are going about their day and some are simply hanging out and taking it easy. I wanted to incorporate the themes of enjoying everyday life, being with others and taking a break, as these are all occurrences that usually happen around the refrigerator in one’s home.

Q: What are your opinions on the range of color and material options for the Bespoke line’s panels? How would you put together a Bespoke for your own home?

I think the Bespoke I would assemble would incorporate the more neutral swatches of panel and finish, as I’ve always preferred this kind of design for my home. That’s just my personal preference, though; since colors and finishes play such a strong role in Bespoke’s design, I would imagine that someone with a stronger sense of color could create some really interesting contrasts with the different color swatches to create a more colorful space.

Q: The Bespoke x Andy Rementer refrigerators are so unique that they are set to have a big influence on the interior aesthetic of a home. What kind of interior décor do you envision these refrigerators in?

Since color plays a strong role in the designs, I might imagine the refrigerators working well in a few different scenarios. Given the bold colors, they could fit nicely along with a very neutral and clean decor, which might be my preference. But, perhaps someone with a stronger sense of color and contrast could balance them within a more colorful space as well. Regardless, I hope they bring joy and perhaps a fun daily moment to the kitchen.

The first artist of this collaboration project to be spotlighted is Thibaud Hérem. Born in France and now based in London, Hérem is an illustrator who depicts those everyday forms found in nature and architecture through fine linework. Hand-drawn with fine-tipped pens, Hérem’s work depicts a side of the everyday – the ‘soul’ – unable to be captured through photography.

An exclusive design by Thibaud Hérem of Fontainebleau for Samsung’s Bespoke refrigerators is now available in limited edition in France, Italy, and Poland.

In order to find out more about the intricate artwork of Thibaud Hérem and how he brought his Bespoke designs to life for this collaboration, Samsung Global Newsroom spoke with the artist to learn more.

Q: In your work, you convey the beauty and intricacy of everyday life – particularly that of buildings – through architectural drawing. What made you choose this focus for your work?

The simple things we encounter every day are great sources of inspiration for me. I have always drawn and sketched, but the most important aspect of being an illustrator is just to observe, something I do all the time. Drawing portraits of the buildings around me, or that I simply just like the look of, is a way for me to convey unique emotions and stories to the public.

Architecture is not just the everyday object that is visible, but also the story and history of a culture. This affects me greatly, personally, hence why I chose it as my main subject.

Q: We hear that this collaboration is your first collaboration with a global electronics company. What led you to collaborate with Samsung on this Bespoke project in particular?

This is indeed my first collaboration with such a large technology corporation, and I am hugely grateful that this ‘first’ is with Samsung. I firmly believe that the best collaborations come about when each party involved brings their own expertise to the table; in fact, being so different in the nature of our industries is what actually brought us closer together.

With this collaboration, I wanted to share something that our products all have in common: science, and creativity.

Q: What was your main focus during this collaboration? Please tell us about the feeling you wanted to convey with your special-edition designs.

For this collaboration, I wanted to explore my own culture within my own practice, hence the inclusion of French and English landmarks in my designs for Bespoke. Working with designs of famous landmarks has always been something important to my practice.

The fact that my designs for this collaboration were to be associated with such a crucial, everyday product was, for me, an amazing challenge, and I think it has changed the relationship my drawings have with the viewer. The resulting designs have brought them closer to the viewer physically, and the promise of constant interaction given the domestic nature of the Bespoke product makes that connection more intimate.

Q: We heard that it usually takes 100 to 200 hours – sometimes 600 to 700 hours, or even more – for you to complete your elaborate works. How long did the drawings for the Bespoke special edition project take?

I use a 0.1 mm-width pen, and most of the time trace 4 lines per millimeter. Therefore, it does indeed take a lot of time to complete a drawing, but my practice is all about technique. I take the time to perfect my drawings because I see my art as a craft, and am always working hard to get better at my skill. In total, this project ended up taking over 1,000 hours to complete.

Q: What are your thoughts on the Bespoke line’s unique design which allows users to choose colors and finishes for their refrigerators?

Samsung’s Bespoke line brings life and art together, something that I think allows for a strong bond to be created between these two factors. It also provides a way for people to experience more art in their daily lives, something that I consider a benefit to society as art has such a powerful emotional effect on people – for the better.

I am very excited to have been a part of such a creative project with Samsung, and I look forward to seeing more such collaborations.

Q: What are your opinions on the range of color and material options for the Bespoke line’s panels? Do you have any particular favorites?

I think that the entire range of colors and finishes available on the Bespoke line is very nice. As well as being tasteful, they suit the inclusion of drawings such as my own well.

Honestly speaking, I would like to furnish my home with all my designs in all kinds of finishes and colors, as I see each panel as art in and of itself. I feel like such an arrangement will provide the awe-inspiring feeling one gets when one is at an exhibition.

Q: Do you have anything further to say to those interested in purchasing the Bespoke Thibaud Hérem Editions?

If you are an individual who chooses to purchase home appliances such as the Bespoke x Thibaud Hérem lineup that combines practical use with creativity, you are clearly an individual who pursues an artistic life – and in my eyes, is admiring paradise!

If you own a Family Hub, SmartThings Cooking can link with your fridge’s ViewInside cameras. Using AI food recognition capabilities, the cameras can automatically scan the products inside your fridge and identify them. You can view this on your Family Hub screen.¹

An automatic Meal Planner recommends meals for the week and generates shopping lists for missing ingredients. If you like, you can then connect directly to online grocery retailers for checkout straight from your smartphone.

When you’re ready to start cooking, SmartThings Cooking becomes your sous-chef as your Samsung appliances communicate directly with each other. SmartThings Cooking will send recipe data straight to your smart range or oven to make sure that your settings are entered precisely, giving you one less thing to worry about. Bon appetite!

SmartThings Clothing Care

Although suits and formal wear don’t get worn as much as they used to, we still fill hampers on a daily basis. SmartThings Clothing Care, which works with smart Samsung washers and dryers, as well as the new Bespoke AirDresser, provides three key services so you can sort it all out with ease.

The service can recommend cycles for your wash based on garment materials, your usage patterns, weather, and season.

SmartThings Clothing Care also keeps track of the detergent levels in your washer and features a Smart Reorder² function that helps you manage and purchase laundry supplies by placing orders online.

Starting in the second half of 2021,³ custom cycles are also easy to manage with SmartThings Clothing Care. You can store up to ten custom cycles and name them yourself, so if you have a penchant for delicate vintage clothes or leather you can save separate options for each of them.

SmartThings Air

With parents, kids, pets and roommates running around the house, it’s critical to stay aware of air quality in various parts of the home as well as outside.

SmartThings Air gives you important information about air quality in each part of your home, and even outside.

SmartThings Air can suggest helpful tips and even automate settings that activate synced air conditioners, air purifiers, air sensors, and window sensors to manage your surrounding air quality.⁴ Breathe easy with real-time air quality alerts and functions that are tailored to your needs while SmartThings Air gives you the information you need to ensure your home’s ventilation and air circulation are in check.

SmartThings Pet

If you’ve ever wished you had a way to keep an eye on your pet while you’re away, SmartThings Pet is the service for you.

When in Pet Care Mode, the service uses the camera on Samsung’s Jet Bot AI+* robot vacuum to record videos of your pet whenever it comes into view, and send those videos to you in real time. The Jet Bot AI+* is powered by Intel AI, and can learn to recognize your pet.

In addition, the service can connect to other SmartThings devices in your home including air conditioners, lights, air purifiers and more, letting you change the settings remotely to make your pet as comfortable as possible, even when you’re not at home.

The events of the past year have brought great change to our everyday lives. Lockdowns have required many of us to spend more time at home, and transformed our homes themselves into classrooms, offices and even gyms. This trend has led to greater demand for appliances that cater to multifunctional spaces, as well as devices that make it easy to keep our homes safe and hygienic.

Get More Use Out of Your Space

More than four in ten European consumers reported in a recent Samsung survey that they are doing things at home these days that they would not have done previously.¹ In order to accommodate those new activities, households require appliances that are flexible and make sure homes are kept safe from pollutants.

Samsung Bespoke air purifier: Indoor air quality is an important thing to consider when trying to squeeze more functionality out of spaces with poor ventilation. This becomes all the more important given the fact that 47 percent of Americans in a Samsung survey reported that they are creating new wellness spaces in their homes, mainly in basements, living rooms and bedrooms.² This can be a concern, as concentrations of some pollutants can be two to five times higher in indoor air compared to outdoor air according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.³

Samsung’s new Bespoke air purifier pulls in air from five directions to make sure that the air around you is fresh, and connects to SmartThings Air to make it easy to maintain your household’s air quality remotely. If you have a furry companion, use Pet mode to increase airflow in Low mode by 20 percent⁴ to capture hard-to-see pet hairs more effectively. Samsung Bespoke Cube refrigerator: Groceries aren’t the only things we need to store at cool temperatures. As consumers spend more time at home, they require more specialized storage for items like wine and cosmetics. The Samsung Bespoke Cube refrigerator is designed to meet these needs, with a compact form that can be placed anywhere, as well as precise temperature settings, ranging from five to 18 degrees Celsius, which can be optimized based on whatever is being stored inside – whether it be wine, beer, cosmetics, supplements, or even pet food. The unit is also quiet, which means you can place it in your bedroom or study without worrying about noise.

Keeping Your Home Hygienic

The events of the past year have brought concerns about household hygiene to the forefront. However, with people constantly moving about in the house, trying to keep everything safe and hygienic can feel overwhelming. Samsung’s home appliances offer convenient solutions in this area by making it easier to protect your home from various pollutants.

Samsung Bespoke Jet: Samsung’s latest Jet stick vacuum makes cleaning a breeze with its all-in-one Clean Station and charging dock.

Once you finish vacuuming and dock your Samsung Bespoke Jet, it utilizes Samsung’s patented Air Pulse technology to empty out the dustbin while recharging the battery. The all-in-one Clean Station in the new Bespoke Jet features an Advanced Filtration System that traps 99.999% of fine dust and allergens.⁶

The device’s Digital Inverter Technology enables it to offer up to 210 watts of suction power⁷ for top-tier performance, while its best-in-class lightweight design maximizes portability, weighing in at roughly 2.5 kilograms and featuring a Slim Action Brush. The combination of less hassle, less strain, and three beautiful Bespoke colors will change the way you vacuum your home.

Samsung Bespoke water purifier: The Bespoke water purifier is the smart new way to keep clean, filtered water at your fingertips. The device is modular, allowing you to choose whether you would like one or two faucets, and whether you would prefer only room temperature water filtration or hot/cold filtration as well.⁸ These modules fit under your sink to save countertop space, and the faucets come in a beautiful Bespoke design that offers a choice of six colors.

The Samsung Bespoke Water Purifier has had a total of 73 filtration claims certified by NSF International, and comes with an Auto Clean feature that drains and cleans the connected water pipes every few days to make sure there is no buildup. The purifier can notify users on their smartphone when the filter needs to be changed, and it also features a smart faucet that allows you to choose exactly how much water you need and the temperature you’d like.

Samsung Bespoke ShoeDresser: Samsung’s ShoeDresser is a first-of-its-kind innovation in the world of home shoe care. Using the same JetAir technology as the AirDresser, a UV deodorizing filter and a xenon UV lamp, the ShoeDresser is capable of deodorizing, dehumidifying and removing bacteria from your shoes.⁹

Samsung Bespoke AirDresser: Samsung’s garment care device, the AirDresser, will now be available in Bespoke colors. Utilizing powerful JetSteam technology, the AirDresser refreshes clothes, bedding, soft toys and more, and is certified by Intertek to remove more than 99 percent of viruses, household dust mites, bacteria and other substances.¹⁰ The Samsung Bespoke AirDresser also comes with a new humidity sensor that more accurately reads humidity levels inside the device to reduce cycle times by approximately 15 percent.¹¹ You can also link your AirDresser to SmartThings to automatically receive cycle recommendations based on what you’re washing, and even set your AirDresser automatically once your wash cycle is done.

It goes without saying that this is more than just a colorful fridge.

Bespoke panels are available in finishes that go beyond simply basic metals. If you’re looking for a warm, earthy look, opt for the Cotta metal finish, which features a clay-like texture. If your kitchen features big windows, the glossy Glam Glass finish will reflect sunlight beautifully throughout the room.

Bespoke’s color options have been expanded for the refrigerator lineup’s global rollout this year, with eight options available in the U.S. and up to 14 options in Europe, depending on the model. Whether it’s a classic 4-Door refrigerator, a simple Bottom Mount Freezer, or a combination of 1-Door and Bottom Mount Freezer modules, you’ll be able to create a Bespoke fridge that combines the storage you need and the aesthetic you want to fit your lifestyle.

Going forward, Samsung will continue to add more options to Bespoke’s palette that cater to consumers’ ever-changing preferences, as well as the latest trends. Plus, with Bespoke’s interchangeable design, consumers can continue to explore different possibilities for their fridge by outfitting it with new panels that cater to their lifestyle.

Modular Design, Seamless Fit

Imagine having a refrigerator that transforms alongside you to give you a truly bespoke experience. When experiencing a significant lifestyle change, you don’t need to toss out what you’ve been using and replace it with something new. Instead, you can simply add what you have into what you need.

For example, you can use the 2-Door unit when you’re living on your own, and later – when you get a roommate or move in with a significant other, for example – add another 1-Door or 2-Door module to transform your fridge into a double-door model. When you find yourself needing extra storage to accommodate a growing family, simply add a Bottom Mount Freezer or another 1-Door module, depending on your lifestyle.

The doors on each module are also reversible and designed to open easily, giving you the freedom to place your Bespoke refrigerator next to furniture or a wall without worrying about the door not having enough space to open.

Inspiring Collaborations

Samsung’s recent ‘Bespoke Home’ event saw the company reveal three collaborative Bespoke refrigerator designs, which will be available in select markets as exclusive collections.

Thibaud Hérem x Samsung

Together with French illustrator Thibaud Hérem, Samsung has created a Bespoke design for the European market that consists of three 1-Door modules that come together to depict Fontainebleau. Furthermore, in partnership with pop artist Andy Rementer, Samsung has created a 4-Door Flex design for the U.S. market that reflects the playful and colorful style of Rementer’s work.

In addition to these designs, the ‘Bespoke Home’ event also offered a peek at a collaboration between Samsung and the Danish lifestyle brand HAY. The collection, which introduces five new colors to the Bespoke range, was inspired by natural food ingredients found in European kitchens.

The campaign was announced as part of Bespoke Home 2021, a new virtual platform and global event for Samsung Digital Appliances showcasing the company’s latest innovations in home appliances. Each challenge was introduced by star influencers, speaking about how Samsung Bespoke refrigerators’ uniquely customizable front panels and modular design inspired them in their creative work as designers or chefs.

We are starting the challenge series with design and food, which are two important passions of our customers, and we plan to expand to more themes moving forward.”

#BespokeDesignedByYou Challenge in Europe

The #BespokeDesignedByYou challenge, taking place this summer, will invite participants to design their own Bespoke refrigerators and post their designs on social media using the hashtag. Three winners will receive a Samsung Bespoke refrigerator bearing their design.¹

Kelly Hoppen CBE, an award-winning British interior and product designer, and Yinka Ilori, a London-based designer, introduced the challenge. Each designer created a unique Bespoke panel design reflecting their style, then called on viewers to share their own creations.

#BespokeDinnerParty Challenge in the U.S.

In the United States, the #BespokeDinnerParty challenges participants to explore how Bespoke colors inspire them by putting together a Bespoke-themed plan for a dinner party. Ideas can include any aspect of a dinner party such as drinks, flower arrangements, food, and plates. The winner of the challenge will receive a Bespoke refrigerator.²

In the video, the two star chefs talk about Bespoke living as they put together a dinner menu inspired by Bespoke colors, including items like a cocktail inspired by Bespoke’s Champagne Rose Steel, and also decide on table settings utilizing Bespoke colors.

These collaborations reflect Samsung’s pursuit of redefining “white goods” by pushing the boundaries of design for home appliances.

Make a Statement With a Work of Art

Thibaud Hérem is a passionate French illustrator who paints buildings and architecture with incredible hand-drawn detail.

Three drawings personally significant to Hérem adorn Bespoke refrigerator exteriors in this collaboration. These are the Chateau de Fontainebleau; for its contributions to French art and culture, the London city skyline; which he drew to commemorate the 150^th anniversary of the London Underground, and the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris; which is known for its incredible architecture that has withstood the ages.

Hérem’s Bespoke panel designs are already being sold in Korea, with the Fontainebleau design slated for a limited-edition launch in France, Italy, and Poland via Samsung.com.

Andy Rementer

Andy Rementer is a pop artist based in the U.S. known for his instantly recognizable, bright and colorful pop designs from his work with international brands.

Rementer has created three designs for the Bespoke lineup—the first piece, called “Together”, highlights diversity, multi-ethnic communication and peace. The second design, called “City”, features a scene of a bustling and colorful city full of movement and vitality. The third design is from his “Portraits” collection and represents the thoughts people have about food and drink. It features the wistful expression of a person enjoying a beverage.

HAY x Samsung

Founded by the eponymous Creative Directors Mette and Rolf Hay, HAY is a Danish lifestyle brand committed to working with their generation’s best designers from all over the world. In this collaboration, HAY has created five new colors exclusively for Samsung’s Bespoke panels, inspired by nature and natural food ingredients. The custom-blended colors include Cream, Squama, Dusty Blueberry, Artichoke and Cabbage.

The Customizable Fridge Goes Global

The Bespoke refrigerator lineup is expanding to North America, Latin America, Europe, CIS, the Middle East, and select regions across Asia and Africa. Bespoke comes in over 20 original colors and seven finishes worldwide, providing a generous number of combinations to choose from. The Bespoke refrigerator also offers Samsung’s trademark large capacity, convenience, and powerful cooling performance.

In North America, consumers can choose from a 4-Door Flex, a 1-Door Column, or a 2-Door Bottom-Mount Freezer. Samsung created a variety of unique metal colors for the region, including Champagne Rose Steel, Navy Steel, and Matte Black Steel.

In Europe, Bespoke is available in 1-Door and Slim 1-Door options, and Bottom-Mount Freezer models in 1.8- and 2-meter options with six different finishes and a broad palette, ranging from classic white to soft pastels and statement colors.

A Kitchen Packaged for You

The new Bespoke kitchen package is Samsung’s first global expansion of Bespoke products beyond refrigerators, bringing the philosophy of customized appliances to the entire kitchen starting with markets in the U.S. and Europe. Launching in the second half of this year, the North American offering centers on the company’s flagship Bespoke refrigerators and expands to include a Bespoke range, microwave oven and dishwasher, exquisitely built in the same look-and-feel as the refrigerator.

The package allows customers to unify or mix and match their kitchen aesthetic around their favorite color and finish, with choices of Matte Black Steel, Navy Steel, Champagne Rose Steel and White Glass.

Appliances That Plug Right Into Your Lifestyle

Samsung will also launch its expanded lineup of purposeful lifestyle appliances in North America and Europe this year, including Bespoke AirDresser, Bespoke air purifier, and Bespoke Jet stick vacuum cleaner. With homes doubling as offices, gyms and classrooms, these new Bespoke Home appliances address day-to-day needs by providing more flexibility, automation and hygiene.

New lifestyle appliances that are launching in North America and Europe include:

• Bespoke AirDresser delivers a range of clothing care solutions to ensure that garments are kept in tip-top shape and does it with upgraded Bespoke style. It launches in Europe and in the U.S. in the second half of 2021.

• Bespoke air purifier draws air from five directions to purify the air rapidly and intensively, even in large spaces. Its ultrafine purification system can remove 99.999 percent of 0.01µm dust,* while the 3 Way smart discharge circulates clean air in various directions. The unit is available in a range of designs and colors and launches in the U.S. during the third quarter.

• Bespoke Jet comes with a Clean Station and charging station attached, offering users a comprehensive cleaning solution. Once done vacuuming, the user simply docks the vacuum and it’ll empty and charge on its own. The new Bespoke Jet will be available in three colors and launches in U.S., Europe, CIS and Southeast Asia in the second half of 2021.

• Jet Bot AI+** is the first robot vacuum to come equipped with an Intel® AI solution. The smart vacuum leverages its object recognition technology, along with its LiDAR and 3D sensors to identify objects and determine the optimal cleaning path. Also outfitted with a camera, Jet Bot AI+** is integrated with the SmartThings app to assist with remote home monitoring. It will be available in U.S., Europe, CIS and Southeast Asia in the second half of 2021.

Other new lifestyle appliances include: 

• Bespoke ShoeDresser pampers your favorite shoes so they feel fresh after each wear. The unit deodorizes, dehumidifies, and dries shoes based on their material and shape, ensuring they are maintained with proper care.

• Bespoke Cube refrigerator*** provides modular storage for items other than groceries, such as wine, beer and beauty products. This device is quiet enough to have in the bedroom or next to the sofa, or wherever one prefers to hold special items that need to stay cool.

• Bespoke water purifier*** is available with a single faucet or multiple faucets. It is equipped with a four-level filter system and can filter up to 2,500 liters of water, which is enough for a four-person family to drink for a year. Water volume and temperature can be set by voice control using Bixby.

SmartThings Support Your Connected Life

Samsung’s vision for the Bespoke Home also emphasizes connected living through AI and automation. Driving this vision is Samsung’s SmartThings, which provides users with a centralized and effortless home management platform.

• SmartThings Cooking provides personalized meal plans and recipes that reflect user preferences and fridge inventory, automatically applying cooking temperatures and modes based on each recipe directly to synced cooking appliances. The service is already available in North America and select countries in Europe.

• SmartThings Pet syncs with home appliances like the Bespoke air purifier and Jet Bot AI+** robot vacuum to let users check on their pet when not at home. The service is set to launch globally in Europe, Latin America, and Asia during the second half of 2021.

• SmartThings Clothing Care syncs with the Bespoke AirDresser as well as smart washers and dryers to make laundry days more efficient. The service recommends device cycles and settings for optimal care, taking the guesswork out. The SmartThings Clothing Care service is currently available in the U.S. and Europe. The update to connect the new Bespoke AirDresser will be available in the U.S. and select European markets in the second half of 2021.

• SmartThings Air syncs with Samsung’s air purifier and air conditioner to monitor air quality in and outside the user’s home in real time. It launches in the U.S. in the second half of 2021.

The Bespoke Home begins with Samsung’s flagship Bespoke refrigerators, which will be expanding across global markets in 2021. This line offers personalized design, with interchangeable panels available in many colors and finishes.

The response so far to Bespoke refrigerators has been tremendous. Early adopters love that Bespoke comes in an array of changeable colors and materials that fit any interior décor. The fridges also have a sleek, flat-front design that gives them a built-in appearance.

In the U.S. this year, we are introducing the Bespoke in an all-new model, the 4-Door Flex, as well as in the 1-Door Column and the Bottom-Mount Freezer (BMF) types. With glass and steel finishes, there are eight color options. We will also be expanding our Bespoke lineup across Europe in the 1-Door and BMF models, with plans to launch in additional markets in the second half of 2021.
