At the entrance, the crystal installation “RE:Birth Crystals” by renowned artist Bahk Seon Ghi welcomed guests. Made from recycled quartz discarded during semiconductor manufacturing, the monument features shards of light converging around the Galaxy S26 series and radiating outward to other Galaxy devices — symbolizing the expanding Galaxy AI ecosystem.

Attendees were impressed by the Privacy Display, introduced for the first time on Galaxy S26 Ultra. Unlike conventional privacy screen protectors, the feature can be toggled on or off at any time and selectively applied to specific apps or notifications.

The camera also attracted attention for delivering high-quality results without professional equipment. Super Steady, a feature that reduces shake during video recording, now includes a Horizontal Lock option. Even during side-to-side movement or full 360-degree rotation, the frame remains level — enabling stable shots in dynamic situations.

Editing is now easier. With Photo Assist, users can add or modify elements using simple text prompts. Demonstrations of Galaxy AI’s intuitive, agentic capabilities drew enthusiastic reactions.

Galaxy Buds4 Series: Intelligent Immersive Sound

In the Galaxy Eco Zone, Samsung extended its mobile innovation beyond smartphones to the Galaxy Buds4 series.

Galaxy Buds4 Pro delivers 24-bit/96kHz audio — the highest level of Hi-Fi sound in the lineup to date. Featuring a two-way speaker system with an expanded woofer, the earbuds produce deep bass and clear highs for a balanced sound.

With Super Clear Call, users can communicate clearly even in noisy environments. Six microphones isolate the user’s voice and filter out background noise to ensure stable call quality.

In the Buds Lounge Zone, attendees learned how Galaxy AI analyzes ear shape and fit to optimize sound. Enhanced Adaptive Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) enables full immersion by blocking out noise or allows users to switch to Ambient mode to naturally blend in surrounding sounds.

Galaxy Z TriFold and Galaxy XR: A New Dimension of Mobile Innovation

Samsung’s booth also showcased new form factors, including the headset-style Galaxy XR and the dual-folding Galaxy Z TriFold.

In the Galaxy XR Demo Zone, seven scenarios demonstrated a multimodal AI-optimized platform. Attendees requested YouTube videos from Gemini by voice, selected search results with their gaze and executed actions with hand gestures — enabling seamless interaction across voice, gaze and gesture.

Galaxy XR further illustrated AI’s cross-industry scalability, from reconfiguring virtual store layouts to visualizing ship blueprints in 3D for detailed review.

Galaxy Z TriFold features a 253.1-millimeter (10-inch) multi-folding display that balances productivity and portability. After trying the multi-window feature — which runs three apps side by side — one guest remarked, “It felt like using three bar-type smartphones at once.”

Pillars of the AI Era: Infrastructure, Trust and Sustainability

The Intelligent Infrastructure Zone highlighted Samsung’s AI-driven expansion into manufacturing and healthcare, including autonomous factories designed to improve production efficiency and quality.

Samsung also introduced its Samsung Health-centered Connected Care vision, expanding its digital health ecosystem following last year’s acquisition of U.S. digital healthcare company Xealth to connect everyday wellness with professional medical services and support preventive care for Galaxy users.

Samsung further showcased mobile security technologies underpinning its AI innovation. Q. The meeting of a cultural icon like you and technology is refreshing. How did you come to take on this role?

Thank you! What excited me about this collaboration wasn’t just the opportunity to advise on an event, but the chance to explore how storytelling and technology intersect. Samsung has long been at the forefront of innovation, and I see technology as a powerful creative medium in itself. Samsung represents a unique bridge between heritage and the future — something I deeply relate to in my own work. This felt less like a typical partnership and more like a shared creative dialogue about how culture and technology can shape new experiences together.

Q. What stood out to you about collaborating with Samsung for the first time? Were there any memorable moments?

I was truly impressed by how open-minded Samsung was throughout the collaboration. I pitched a few ideas that might have been considered a bit unconventional for a tech brand like Samsung, but they were incredibly receptive. This kind of openness allowed us to explore new creative possibilities together.

One memorable moment was when we worked together in person while I was visiting Seoul last December. It was more than just a productive session; it felt like a shared creative journey. The team went out of their way to create an atmosphere where collaboration flowed naturally, even providing delicious local snacks to enjoy during our sessions. Those moments really stood out — they added a personal touch to the professional experience and helped foster a deeper sense of connection.

Q. What did you focus on most when advising on the creative aspects of the event?

As with everything I do, the first thing I focused on was always the story — how can we craft an experience that truly connects with the audience? How do we make technology feel relatable to users?

For me, it was also essential to weave in the Korean element. Samsung, headquartered in Korea, carries with it a legacy that holds a unique cultural significance. I wanted to ensure that this heritage wasn’t just acknowledged but lived through the narrative, even in subtle ways. Whether it’s through visual storytelling or cultural references, I felt it was important to keep that spirit alive, creating a deeper connection for both local and global audiences.

Q. What is the one thing you want the audience to take away from the event?

I hope the audience walks away with a sense of excitement about how Samsung is pushing boundaries and exploring new creative directions. The team truly took bold steps, showcasing ideas we haven’t seen from Samsung before. I want them to appreciate not just the innovation, but the openness — Samsung is embracing a spirit of openness that redefines what the brand stands for.

Q. As you worked on Galaxy Unpacked 2026, how did you view Samsung’s role in shaping culture through technology?

Honestly, I learned so much from working with the Samsung team. There’s so much Samsung is doing to advance technology to improve our lives. I found myself telling the team “I need this right now” many many times! And because so much is being done by Samsung, I really wanted to help get that message across to users — that’s what Galaxy Unpacked 2026 is all about!

What excited me most was helping convey the event’s message: “Stars by Your Side.” Through this theme, we wanted to make AI experiences feel closer, more approachable and personal to users. Collaborating with Samsung allowed me to see firsthand how technology can connect with people on a cultural and emotional level, and to bring that story to the audience in a meaningful way.

Q. Do you plan to continue this type of cross-industry collaboration in the future?

Absolutely, I would love to continue! Storytelling is at the heart of everything I do, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see how these skills can bring new perspectives and creativity to the tech space. Collaborating across industries allows for exciting intersections between culture, narrative and innovation, and I hope to keep exploring these opportunities to create experiences that are both meaningful and inspiring.

“Every groundbreaking technology follows a similar journey. It begins as a marvel — rare, expensive and loudly celebrated. But the technologies that change history fade into the background because they become infrastructure,” said TM Roh, CEO and Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics. “Infrastructure is responsibility. Built on Galaxy AI, Call Screening summarizes incoming calls — identifying who is calling and why — so users can quickly decide whether to respond.

The Galaxy Buds4 series, also announced at Galaxy Unpacked 2026, features a refreshed Blade design and enhanced audio performance. Galaxy Buds4 Pro includes a wider woofer in its two-way speaker system and refined tuning for richer bass and clearer highs.

Call quality has been upgraded with AI-powered noise reduction that minimizes background noise and improves voice clarity. Super Wideband further expands voice bandwidth for clearer, more natural calls, while hands-free access to Bixby, Gemini and Perplexity makes everyday interactions more seamless.

Sustainability: Expanding Galaxy for the Planet

Samsung reaffirmed its Galaxy for the Planet initiative, announcing the completion of its 2025 environmental commitments and introducing new 2030 goals focused on resource circularity, water stewardship and biodiversity conservation, expanding the initiative to address broader environmental impact.

As part of new 2030 goals, Samsung plans to incorporate at least one recycled material into every mobile device, advance water stewardship across 10 global mobile device manufacturing sites to replenish 110% of water consumption to local communities and conserve ecosystems spanning an area equal to or greater than the combined footprint of these sites.

In line with this commitment, the Galaxy S26 series expands the use of recycled materials across key components of every mobile device, including recycled plastics, glass, cobalt and the newly added recycled tantalum.

Ocean Mode — a camera feature originally developed to optimize underwater image capture in support of coral reef restoration — has expanded to Expert RAW, enabling Galaxy users to experience advanced underwater photography.

“What stood out the most was Galaxy S26 Ultra and all of its new features,” said Kara Lewis, a content creator and member of Team Galaxy from the United States. “My favorite has to be Privacy Display on Galaxy S26 Ultra — just turning it on and off makes it so easy to hide sensitive information, like bank account details, while on the go.”

“It was my fifth Unpacked, and I still get excited every year about the new AI features and devices,” said Timos Kouremenos, a tech journalist from Greece. “With Galaxy AI’s Now Nudge, it really feels like the smartphone becomes my agent.

“It was surprising to see how quickly Creative Studio creates stickers with AI,” said Oksana Bykova, a Samsung Members from the U.S. “As a mother of three, I am sure that I will be playing around with the feature with my kids every day.”

“I loved how clearly the other person could hear me with Super Clear Call on the Galaxy Buds4 series,” said Gerson Manzanares, a Samsung Members from Nicaragua. “I can now call anyone with my earbuds wherever I am, without feeling distracted.”

Display: Privacy From Every Angle

Debuting on Galaxy S26 Ultra, Privacy Display limits side-angle viewing without the need for a separate screen protector. The display remains clear from the front while restricting visibility from the sides to help shield on-screen content from nearby onlookers.

Users can also assign the Privacy Display to the side button’s double-press function for greater convenience. Even when viewed from the side, content stays concealed — making it especially useful on crowded public transportation or in elevators.

Galaxy AI: Intuitive AI for Everyone

Galaxy AI stands out on the Galaxy S26 series, combining enhanced contextual awareness with proactive suggestions to simplify everyday tasks.

The new Now Nudge feature reduces app switching by surfacing relevant information in context. When a friend asks about evening plans on messaging apps, Galaxy AI checks the calendar, detects conflicts and displays a tailored “Nudge” pop-up.

A fan favorite since its debut on the Galaxy S24 series, Circle to Search has evolved to support multi-element searches. Circling a celebrity’s outfit, for example, generates curated pieces to recreate the look.

The Galaxy S26 series further expands its AI ecosystem with Bixby, Gemini and Perplexity. For example, users can use natural language commands to adjust settings, allowing them to effortlessly control their device even without knowing exact setting names or specific commands. Saying “My eyes feel tired,” for instance, prompts Bixby to suggest activating Eye comfort shield — eliminating the need to navigate complex menus. Together, these agents understand user intent and context to streamline daily routines, reducing steps and delivering a more seamless, efficient mobile experience.

Camera: Pro-Level Capture, Powered by AI

The Galaxy S26 series marks another leap in mobile photography. Powered by advanced AI, the device enables effortless capture and editing of high-quality content — no expertise required.

Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 200-megapixel (MP) wide-angle camera and a 50 MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and 10x optical-quality zoom, complemented by a wider aperture for enhanced low-light clarity. With upgraded Nightography, even a recreated San Francisco nightscape inside the exhibition hall appeared vivid and detailed despite dim surroundings. The AI ISP (Image Signal Processor), previously used in the rear camera, also extends to the front camera, capturing fine details — from individual hair strands to eyebrows — while preserving natural skin tones.

Beyond capture, the Galaxy S26 series expands creative possibilities. Powered by Galaxy AI, it provides an intuitive environment that turns ideas into finished results in moments.

The upgraded Photo Assist goes further — removing unwanted objects and naturally adding new elements. When prompted to restore a cake with a bite taken out, AI seamlessly reconstructs it as if untouched. The feature can also transform day into night or adjust wardrobe details to match the mood, enabling faster, more effortless editing.

With Creative Studio, edited photos can be turned into polished content. Users can simply type a prompt — such as “Please draw me a dog” — to generate a context-based sticker set, ready for use in messages or when editing photos. The feature also supports invitations, profile cards and wallpapers, expanding everyday creative possibilities in the future.

Turning Language Barriers Into Moments of Connection

To support seamless communication across venues — including remote mountain locations — Samsung equipped volunteers with Galaxy devices featuring Galaxy AI-powered, on-device Interpreter.

For Emmanuel Mantilla Jr., a volunteer from the Philippines supporting National Olympic Committees in the Olympic Village, language differences once meant hesitation.

Mantilla believes the Olympic Games are “like another universal language,” bringing people from different cultures together in shared moments.

“English is widely spoken, but not everyone feels confident using it,” Mantilla said. “Before, I would hesitate. I would look for someone else who spoke their language and wait for that person to assist.”

Now Interpreter has changed his approach. “Instead of waiting silently, I approach them directly and ask how I can help. The confidence is there now.”

Mantilla recalls one memorable moment during his volunteer work. At a tram stop, a spectator asked for directions to the ice hockey arena — a venue outside Mantilla’s assignment.

“It wasn’t even my venue,” Mantilla recalled. “The person had difficulty speaking English. So, I used the Interpreter to explain which tram to take and how to transfer to the shuttle going to the arena. Before, I might have tried to find someone else to help. Now, I can assist immediately.”

Athletes Connecting Beyond Nationality

Inside the Olympic Village, athletes from around the world are experiencing similar benefits.

Xaverri Williams, representing Trinidad and Tobago in bobsleigh, says the Interpreter feature makes it easier to communicate with athletes outside his delegation.

“The translation feature is especially helpful in understanding people who don’t speak English fluently,” he said. “Having something that helps bridge that gap makes communication much easier and smoother.”

Spanish figure skater Tomas Guarino Sabate added that even small misunderstandings can interrupt connection.

As the year comes to a close, Samsung is encouraging people to stay present with friends and family this festive season. New European research² from the company shows more than half of respondents (57%) say taking photos pulls them out of the moment they’re trying to enjoy.

In the film, acclaimed photographer Tom Craig — whose work has appeared in Esquire, Vanity Fair and Vogue — demonstrates how Galaxy AI features like Generative Edit³ help users get the perfect shot while keeping their focus on what matters.

He uses Generative Edit on Galaxy Z Fold7 to remove traffic from Piccadilly Circus and fill in missing details — proving perfection can come later, without the hassle of snapping multiple shots.

The research also indicates that nearly half of respondents (45%) feel pressure to capture the perfect photo. Almost three-quarters (73%) say they want to live in the moment more and worry less about getting the right picture, yet many say this pressure stems from wanting to preserve memories (83%) or look good on social media (30%).

When reviewing their photos, about nine in ten respondents (86%) have noticed background elements they wish they could remove — including photobombers (38%), stray objects (33%) and unwanted shadows or reflections (34%). Despite these distractions, 74% have never used AI tools on their smartphones to fix them.

Key moments people say they’ve missed because they were busy taking photos include family celebrations, tourist landmarks and even milestones in their children’s lives:

It is frustrating when an unwelcome distraction ruins that,” said Tom Craig. “Our smartphones give us the power to capture these important moments, but it’s crucial not to get so caught up chasing the perfect picture that we end up missing the moment entirely. Traveling Artwork

The Hangeul Truck transformed a classic Airstream trailer into a vibrant work of art. Wrapped in Kang’s signature Hangeul Cubes, the truck became a traveling exhibition, making stops at six major universities in the United States this fall. Each stop offered visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultural and artistic spirit of Hangeul while experiencing Samsung’s latest AI-powered innovations.

Co-Creating With Galaxy AI

At the heart of the Hangeul Truck experience was a message station where students and visitors could type personal reflections or write notes to their future selves. Galaxy AI instantly translated these words into Korean and the messages were then displayed on a central LED screen, transforming individual voices into a piece of living artwork. By weaving personal expression into the artistry of Hangeul, participants co-created a shared cultural canvas that bridged languages, ideas and generations.

Self-Expression, Creativity and Discovery in the Spirit of Hangeul

In addition to engaging with the interactive message wall, guests were invited to explore a series of playful experiences inspired by Korean culture and Galaxy innovation. A selfie kiosk designed with artist Ik-Joong Kang offered creative frames for photos, while erasable Hangeul tattoos allowed visitors to take a piece of the experience with them.

“The Hangeul Truck is where the past meets the present — where Hangeul, created by King Sejong centuries ago, now breathes with the dreams of today’s young generation,” said Kang. “What made this project meaningful was its openness — art not confined to an exhibition hall, but moving freely through various cities and campuses.”

The Hangeul Truck tour ran from late September through early October, concluding on Hangeul Day (October 9) with a celebration hosted at Times Square in New York City. By uniting art, culture and AI-powered innovation, Samsung and KCCNY gave a new generation the opportunity to discover the timeless beauty of Hangeul. It also showed how technology can help connect us all.

One UI 8 recognizes the user’s context, offering personalized, proactive suggestions that support their unique daily routines. And as Galaxy AI becomes more intelligent, so does its commitment to protecting private data. One UI 8 combines advanced personalization tools with top-tier security features, anticipating user needs while keeping information safe.

• Now Bar² shows real-time app activity and media player progress directly on Galaxy Z Flip’s FlexWindow, and is also now integrated with even more third-party apps.

Starting with the Galaxy S24 series and a commitment to democratise Galaxy AI to over 200 million devices in 2024, Samsung Galaxy has defined a new era of mobile AI innovation.

To hear the story of how One UI 8 came together, Samsung Newsroom sat down with three of the leading minds behind the new user interface: Mihyun Jeong and Joonhwan Kim, who were in charge of development, and Nawoong Han who coordinated collaboration with Google — all from Samsung Electronics’ Mobile eXperience (MX) Business.

A Personalized Daily Experience, Powered by AI and Foldables

One UI 8 takes Galaxy’s distinctive foldable form factor to the next level, delivering an even more powerful AI experience. Jeong, who was in charge of One UI planning, noted that as AI technology rapidly advances, user expectations are also rising — making One UI both more complex and more important. “To address this, Samsung’s customer experience (CX), user experience (UX) and development teams formed a task force that focused on defining the core concepts and enhancing the overall quality of One UI 8,” she said. “As a result, these core concepts were summed up as ‘multimodal AI, a form factor–optimized UX and a proactive personalized experience.”

Kim, who was in charge of One UI design for foldables, highlighted the design concept for One UI 8 — “When Foldables Meet AI” — as the convergence of form factors and AI innovation. “From the FlexWindow of Galaxy Z Flip7 to the expansive main display of Galaxy Z Fold7, users can now experience Galaxy’s evolution into AI phones across multiple form factors,” he explained.

AI Innovation on the FlexWindow

With One UI 8, Galaxy Z Flip7 lets users access AI features quickly and effortlessly, even without unfolding the device. A simple press of the side key launches Gemini Live, and its FlexWindow-optimized UX enables natural, conversational interactions with AI, as if chatting with a friend.

“You can, for example, view what’s shown on the camera and speak with AI in real time, or add events directly to your calendar. Everyday tasks become quick and effortless,” Jeong added.

The expanded FlexWindow on Galaxy Z Flip7 also makes it easy to check real-time sports scores, news, app updates and more through Now Bar. Plus, Now Brief delivers richer, more personalized information and insights, all available at a glance from the Flex Window.

Innovating Multitasking on a Large Screen

Galaxy Z Fold7’s large main display brings out the full potential of One UI 8. “On the big screen, you can display Galaxy AI-generated results in Split view or in Floating view, and freely resize or move them for highly efficient multitasking,” explained Kim.

Powered by multimodal AI that understands complex contexts, Screen sharing on Gemini Live enables users to share their current screen with AI in real time, even while running multiple apps, and instantly ask questions.

Galaxy AI’s Photo Assist also takes full advantage of the expansive screen. By placing the original and edited versions of an image side by side, users can compare every detail with precision for more refined image editing.

Perfected Through Close Collaboration With Google

At the foundation of One UI 8’s refined AI experience is a special partnership with Google. “Both companies worked together from the very beginning, defining concepts during the early planning stage and collaborating throughout the process to bring the latest features to One UI 8,” explained Han, who managed joint efforts with the Android team at Google.

The way the two teams worked together was also unprecedented. “We collaborated with Google in real time, using a shared development branch that allowed us to exchange code around the clock and fix bugs on the fly,” said Han. Thanks to this close collaboration at the engineering level, Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 became the first devices to feature Android 16 out of the box.

The multimodal Gemini Live experience on Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 —  capable of recognizing on-screen content, enabling natural interactions in the moment, and connecting to Samsung apps to get things done — is also a product of Samsung and Google’s cohesive teamwork.

The development of Samsung DeX for One UI 8 is another prime example of this deep partnership. Developed by Samsung through close collaboration with Google, DeX has evolved and expanded to address key user needs by introducing desktop windowing to the core Android platform. From the underlying structure to detailed user scenarios, Samsung contributed its expertise built over years of operating DeX to the joint expansion effort. This new desktop windowing experience offers app developers a consistent user environment and helps boost productivity on Android devices.

“I traveled between Korea and the UK several times for workshops with Google. We’d gather in front of a whiteboard, sketching out screen transition flows and discussing even the smallest details,” recalled Han.

“We spent so much time together that our teamwork became rock solid. We made matching team hoodies and later grew close enough to even ask about each other’s pets,” he added with a smile. For users, the result of this tight bond was a more powerful and productive Samsung DeX.

Emotion-Embracing Design, Backed by Strong Security

One UI 8 places as much emphasis on thoughtful design as it does on powerful AI features. “In addition to the weather app, which received particularly positive feedback during beta testing, we enhanced animations and visual effects across other everyday apps to create a more immersive experience,” said Kim.

“In One UI 8, the clock can recognize the subject in a chosen wallpaper and organically align itself with its outline. This feature is not only available on the main display but also on Galaxy Z Flip7’s FlexWindow,” he added, introducing it as an element that brings a sense of liveliness to One UI 8’s design.

Jeong added that beyond AI, One UI 8 also brings a host of enhancements designed to maximize everyday convenience. She highlighted features such as a more streamlined Quick Share for easier content sharing; Audio Eraser, which reduces unwanted background noise in videos and audio recordings at the touch of a button; and four new pet profiles added to the Portrait Studio in Photo Assist.

Security, now more critical than ever in the AI era, has also been reinforced. One UI 8 utilizes a new security solution, Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), and Knox Vault to protect personalized AI features and further safeguard user data by blocking unauthorized access.

“We fully understand the security concerns users may have in the AI era,” said Jeong. “That’s why we’ve built powerful threat-blocking mechanisms into the device, while also providing and continuously upgrading a range of security tools that users can easily use and manage by themselves.”

New Everyday Life With One UI 8

One UI 8 marks the beginning of a new user experience born from the fusion of foldables and AI.

“These are completely new foldable experiences — unlike anything before. Through One UI, we will naturally connect users with AI to deliver even more effective automation and personalization,” said Jeong, expressing confidence in the advancements One UI 8 brings.

“From bar-type phones to foldables and tablets, we hope our form factor–optimized AI experiences will bring even greater value and enjoyment to users’ daily lives,” Kim added.

Looking ahead, Samsung’s collaboration with Google is set to deepen further. “The more advanced the technology becomes, the more important collaboration will be,” noted Han. “We aim to broaden our partnership with Google across all areas of Galaxy, especially in AI — so stay tuned.”

One UI 8 will begin rolling out to other devices in September, starting with the Galaxy S25 series. By taking the synergy between AI and Samsung’s foldable form factors to new heights, the new user interface promises to open up new possibilities for everyday life.

An ‘Epic Tour’ With the New Galaxy Devices in New York

Set against the urban backdrop of New York City, the ‘Epic Tour’ offered Members a chance to creatively experience the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7.

From creatively reinterpreting Broadway posters using AI to capturing unique moments at city landmarks with FlexCam, Members brought their ideas to life. Each team worked on concept planning, real-time filming and editing — culminating in compelling content co-produced with #TeamGalaxy.

Over four inspiring days, Samsung Members Connect 2025 gave Members a unique opportunity to dive deep into the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7 and the next chapter of Galaxy AI. More than just a product showcase, it was a global platform for connection — strengthening the bond between Members and the brand.

To explore these themes further, Samsung hosted two panels at the Galaxy Tech Forum on July 10 in Brooklyn. Samsung Newsroom joined industry leaders and executives to examine how ambient intelligence and advanced health technologies are shaping the future of mobile innovation.

The first panel, “The Next Vision of AI: Ambient Intelligence,” explored how multimodal capabilities are enabling the continued evolution of AI in everyday life — blending into user interactions in ways that feel intuitive, proactive and nearly invisible. Panelists discussed the smartphone’s evolving role, the importance of platform integration and the power of cross-industry collaboration to deliver secure, personalized intelligence at scale.

Jisun Park, Corporate Executive Vice President and Head of Language AI Team, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics, opened the conversation by reflecting on Galaxy AI’s rapid adoption. Since the launch of the Galaxy S25 series in January, more than 70% of users have engaged with Galaxy AI features. He then turned the discussion to the next frontier, ambient intelligence — AI that is deeply personal, predictive and ever-present.

Samsung sees ambient intelligence as AI that is so seamlessly integrated into daily life it becomes second nature. The company is committed to democratizing Galaxy AI to 400 million devices by the end of 2025.

This vision builds on insights from a yearlong collaboration with London-based research firm Symmetry, which revealed that 60% of users want their phones to anticipate needs without prompts — based on daily habits.

“Some see AI as the start of a ‘post-smartphone’ era, but we see it differently,” said Park. “We’re building a future where your devices don’t just respond — they become smarter to anticipate, see and work quietly in the background to make life feel a little more effortless.”

Mindy Brooks, Vice President of Android Consumer Product and Experience at Google, discussed how multimodal AI is moving beyond reactive response to deeper understanding of user intent across inputs like text, vision and voice. Google’s Gemini is designed to be intelligently aware and anticipatory — tuned to individual preferences and routines for assistance that feels natural.

“Through close collaboration with Samsung, Gemini works seamlessly across its devices and connects with first-party apps to provide helpful and personalized responses,” she said.

Dr. Vinesh Sukumar, Vice President of Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies emphasized that as AI becomes more personalized, there is more information than ever that needs to be protected.

“For us, privacy, performance and personalization go hand in hand — they’re not competing priorities but co-equal standards,” he said.

Both Brooks and Dr. Sukumar reinforced the importance of tight integration across platforms and hardware.

“Our work with Samsung prioritizes secure, on-device intelligence so that users know where their data is and who controls it,” said Dr. Sukumar.

Moderator Sabrina Ortiz, senior editor at ZDNET, closed the session with a discussion on AI privacy. Panelists agreed that trust, transparency and user control must underpin the entire AI experience.

“When it comes to building more agentic AI, our priority is to ensure we’re fostering smarter, more personalized and more meaningful assistance across our device ecosystem,” said Brooks.

The second panel, “The Next Chapter of Health: Scaling Prevention and Connected Care,” focused on how technology can bridge the gap between wellness and clinical care — making health insights more connected, proactive and usable for individuals, healthcare providers and digital health solution partners. Panelists explored how the convergence of clinical data, at-home monitoring and AI is reshaping the modern healthcare experience.

Health data is often siloed across systems, resulting in inefficiencies and gaps in care. Combined with rising rates of chronic illness, an aging population and ongoing clinician shortages, the result is a system under pressure to deliver timely, effective care.

“Patients and consumers around the world are asking us to hear them, to know them, to truly understand them,” said moderator Dr. Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team at Samsung Electronics. “And I believe this is the opportunity we have with Samsung, Xealth and partners like Hinge and Advocate. Together, we are creating a connected ecosystem where healthcare can truly make a difference — not just in the life of a patient, but in the life of a person.”

Samsung is addressing this challenge through technological innovation and its recent acquisition of Xealth, a leading digital health platform with a network of more than 500 hospitals and 70 digital health solution providers. Through Xealth, Samsung plans to connect wearable data and insights from Samsung Health into clinical workflows — delivering a more unified and seamless healthcare experience.

“This [phone], plus your devices — the watch, the ring — are going to replace the standalone blood pressure monitor, the pulse oximeter, a variety of different devices,” said Mike McSherry, founder and CEO of Xealth. “It’s going to be one packaged solution, and that’s going to simplify care.”

This collaboration is designed to empower hospitals with real-time insights and help prevent chronic conditions through early detection and continuous monitoring with wearable devices.

“The reality is that with all of the challenges that exist in healthcare, it is not any one entity that can heroically go in and save healthcare. It really takes an ecosystem,” said Dr. Rasu Shrestha, Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation & Commercialization Officer at Advocate Health. “That’s part of the reason why I’m so excited about Xealth and Samsung — and partners like us — really coming together to solve for this challenge. Because it is about Samsung enabling it. It’s more of an open ecosystem, a curated ecosystem.”

The panel spotlighted the growing shift from hospital-based care to care at home — and the opportunities enabled by Samsung’s expanding ecosystem of connected devices. Data from wearables, including those equipped with Samsung’s BioActive Sensor technology, can provide high-quality input for AI-driven insights.

Paired with Samsung’s SmartThings connectivity and wide portfolio of smart home devices, the company is uniquely positioned to support remote health monitoring and treatment from home.

AI is expected to play a role in reducing clinician workload by streamlining administrative tasks and surfacing the most relevant insights at the right time. Platforms like Xealth offer users a personalized, friendly interface to access necessary information from one place for a more connected healthcare experience.

By placing a thumb on the BioActive Sensor on the back of the watch for five seconds, users receive both a numerical score and a color-coded result representing their antioxidant status. The Galaxy S25 series uses vision AI technology and the understanding of natural language to address these issues and provide a more intuitive mobile experience for users in their daily lives. When searching for a photo in their gallery, users can enter keywords that describe the situation — such as the date or locality, any objects present, any actions taking place and so forth — and Galaxy AI will analyze them to find matching photos. In addition, the flagship series boasts Auto Trim, a new video editing feature that can automatically select key segments from multiple videos and edit them into a separate video.

These features are the result of advanced research in visual technology and close collaboration. Samsung Newsroom met with developers from the Visual Technology Team of Samsung Research and the Visual Solution Team of the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics to learn how the company developed even smarter photo and video experiences for Galaxy users.

Labeling Every Element in a Photo With AI-Powered Classification

Smartphones store a massive number of photos, with the average user having several thousand — or even tens of thousands — on their devices. As the number grows, it becomes increasingly difficult to find a specific photo right away. On the Galaxy S25 series, the Gallery app automatically tags and categorizes various elements in photos such as objects, people and localities, allowing users to quickly and accurately find the desired images. This is incredibly convenient for users who want to relive past memories or retrieve important information fast.

Keeping in mind that an effective search depends on classification, the developers tripled the number of tag types compared to that of the previous Galaxy series, fine-tuning photo subject recognition and labeling capabilities in the Galaxy S25 series. In addition, they expanded the scope of clustering, a technique that groups data for people recognition.

“By developing an image analysis engine and using zero-shot technology, we improved the performance so that the Galaxy S25 series can recognize object data it encounters for the first time,” said Hongpyo Lee from the Visual Technology Team at Samsung Research. “For people, we expanded analysis beyond facial features to include clothing, time and location, making it easier to group photos of the same person.”

Finding Photos With Conversational, Natural Language Through Gallery Search

Samsung also focused on enhancing natural language search performance in the Gallery. The company developed a search model that reflects frequently used phrases and various application cases, allowing users to find the photos they want using natural, conversational sentences instead of word-based searches.

“We leveraged a vision-language model that learns by associating images with text and used generative AI to automatically generate a wide range of sentences that users might enter,” Lee shared. “We also optimized and compressed the search model so it runs quickly on-device.”

“Building on our previous research, we successfully applied natural language processing capabilities to our products, including a context-aware image analysis engine and a large language model (LLM),” said Inho Choi from the Visual Solution Team of Samsung Electronics’ MX Business.

The developers also worked to deliver unbiased and more accurate search results. “We wanted to anticipate various usage scenarios and identify potential issues in advance so that malicious search queries wouldn’t lead to inaccurate results,” Choi explained. “Building a database of negative words, profanity and neologisms, and then conducting user tests to improve search accuracy was both the most challenging and rewarding part of the process.”

Editing Multiple Videos at Once With Auto Trim

Video editing is also becoming an increasingly important part of the gallery experience. While video is a popular form of media consumption, having video editing tools readily available and using them with ease is often not as simple as it seems. To address this, the Galaxy S25 series introduces a feature that makes editing much faster and more convenient through enhanced AI-powered video analytics. The Auto Trim feature extracts key scenes from multiple videos of the user’s choice to create a new short-form video.

It was important for Auto Trim to be able to quickly analyze videos up to 90 minutes long, generate an edited video and adjust the length of that new video. The developers achieved this through close collaboration, seamlessly integrating Samsung Research’s advanced technological expertise with the MX Business’ mobile optimization capabilities.

“Existing video analytics technologies have limitations, such as large model sizes, slow processing speeds and the uniform selection of key video segments,” said Seonghwan Kim from the MX Business’ Visual Solution Team. “We optimized the Galaxy S25 series’ video processing performance by testing and verifying multiple candidate solutions to deliver a fast and easy editing experience based on on-device AI.”

“We’ve introduced a feature that enables users to effortlessly identify key moments in videos, demanding significantly more data processing than photos, and tailor the duration of these edited segments to their preferences” explained Wonwoo Lee from Samsung Research’s Visual Technology Team.

“Getting Galaxy AI to identify highlights in videos with a level of sensitivity comparable to that of humans was a challenge, but by establishing the standards together, Samsung Research and the MX Business were able to significantly improve overall functionality.”

From Analyzing to Generating: Vision AI and Its Endless Possibilities

Samsung Electronics is researching a wide range of vision AI technologies, ranging from filming and editing technologies for smartphones to multimodal interaction technologies used in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). The core of this research is the ability to quickly and accurately analyze subjects such as people and animals, as well as their surroundings, in videos on-device, and to recognize the meaningful moments in those videos. Through vision AI technology, Samsung aims not only to evolve typical smartphone features like shooting and viewing photos and videos, but also pioneer novel ways to consume content.

“We’re actively utilizing AI technology for fast, easy and high-quality editing in the video domain,” said Kim. “Samsung will focus on further developing the technology so that AI can better understand the context of video content, helping users reduce editing time effectively and generate edited videos that reflect the user’s intent — all without requiring professional editing skills.”

Source Detection: The Future of Next-Generation Audio Technology

Audio Eraser enables users to adjust sounds within a video by removing unwanted noise and enhancing the audio they want to highlight. The feature quickly scans a video to detect and separate sounds by type, and can be used not only on clips recorded by the user but also on videos that have been shared or received.

Just as Object Eraser improved image editing and usability with its debut in the Galaxy S21 series, Audio Eraser was developed to deliver a more advanced and seamless multimedia experience across both audio and video.

Developing Sound Source Detection and Separation Models

Audio Eraser recognizes six types of sound — voices, music, wind, nature sounds, crowd noise and ambient noise. Using sound source detection technology, the feature quickly identifies what sounds are present and where they occur in a video. Then, through sound source separation technology, it isolates and classifies each sound into distinct categories.

To build AI models capable of detecting and isolating these audio types, the research team began by collecting a robust set of training data. They simulated a wide range of real-world video recording scenarios to generate diverse audio datasets — and even went into the field to capture everyday sounds firsthand.

“Wind was particularly challenging to work with,” said Hejung Yang from the AI Solution Team at Samsung Research. “Besides refining our wind simulation technology, we enhanced our dataset by recording actual wind sounds outdoors whenever strong winds occurred — even after work or on weekends.”

In addition, the team devoted extensive time to improving the performance of the sound source separation model by carefully reviewing countless video clips multiple times.

“Each developer compared and analyzed more than 1,000 audio samples every week under a variety of conditions,” said Jiwon Kim. “Through continuous experimentation, we worked to identify the most effective sound source separation model to ensure consistent, high-quality results.”

Delivering a New User-Centric Listening Experience

As Audio Eraser runs on-device, it offers an enhanced user experience with real-time editing and improved privacy protection. Samsung’s long-standing expertise in developing competitive on-device AI capabilities across various features played a key role in Audio Eraser’s success.

“We focused on developing AI models and algorithms capable of fast, on-device processing,” said Hosang Sung. “A great deal of effort went into creating an optimized AI solution that runs smoothly with low power consumption.”

Supported by a strong AI research infrastructure, Samsung Research continues to strengthen its capabilities in advanced audio technologies.

“We are committed to developing next-generation solutions that elevate the usability of mobile devices,” said Hoonyoung Cho, Vice President and Head of the AI Solution Team at Samsung Research. “Through sound control and audio enhancement technologies, we aim to deliver a truly selective and personalized listening experience.”

Integrated Collaboration With Product Development Teams

Turning advanced research into a consumer-ready solution brought a new set of challenges. For instance, when editing video and audio simultaneously, playback needed to remain smooth and uninterrupted. Additionally, processing videos longer than an hour required specialized technology capable of completing the task within the same timeframe.

To address these challenges, Samsung Research and the MX Business worked together — from proposing user-centric ideas to repeatedly testing software optimization techniques and evaluating audio quality. Together, they explored multiple approaches to determine the most effective solution.

The cross-functional collaboration had already proven successful in the development of the Galaxy Buds3 series (Buds3, Buds3 Pro). As the needs for listening in noisy environments grows — for everything from music and media experiences to listening to clearer phone calls — Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) has become an increasingly essential feature in wireless earbuds. Samsung raised the bar by developing its own Adaptive ANC technology. The Galaxy Buds3 series adapts to the fitting conditions of different users and changes in fit caused by prolonged wear to deliver optimized ANC performance.

Since earbuds are worn directly in the ear, close coordination between hardware and software teams was essential to finalize product specifications and fine-tune the ANC technology.

“We developed multiple algorithms in advance to accommodate different hardware conditions,” said Kyoungbo Min. “Through extensive simulations, we prepared a solution that could be quickly adapted to any chipset or device. The development process involved iterative revisions and improvements, but the close collaboration between advanced research and product teams helped accelerate commercialization.”

Sound source separation is a core area of next-generation audio technology, and Samsung continues to advance its foundational innovations in this field. With Audio Eraser making full use of sound source separation, the company is preparing to expand into a range of new applications. The ongoing evolution of Galaxy AI is expected to deliver even more practical and intuitive features for consumers.
