Having protected the popes in the Vatican since 1506, the GSP is a Renaissance-era army performing their highly successful duties in the modern age. However, things have changed dramatically since the first Swiss citizens took up their halberds, a two-handed pole-type weapon, to stand in defense of the Pope.

Technological advancements have encouraged the GSP to modernize their tactics and technology to ensure the safety of Vatican City. To do this effectively, they required a robust solution allowing them to be mobile, smart and digital and to ensure their communications are as secure as the Vatican’s Apostolic archives. The importance of security and privacy cannot be overstated, and huge considerations around any technological integrations must be taken into account.

The GSP chose Knox Suite, Samsung Electronics’ powerful and adaptable mobile device management platform, due to the wide range of crucial benefits it provides. Minimizing distractions and reducing time spent on devices allows the GSP to ensure maximum focus and productivity.

This feature also allows devices to be restricted in sensitive situations to ensure additional security. Knox Manage could be used during the next papal conclave, for example, to help safeguard information and communications while key decisions are made.

With the Routines, you can trigger a sequence of actions on your device based on your activities, and with One UI 5’s Modes, you can create customized settings for different parts of your life from sleeping and relaxing to exercising and driving.

For example, while you’re exercising, your priority might be to mute notifications in order to stay in the zone and play music. Alternatively, when it’s time for bed, turning off sounds and turning on Dark mode can help you wind down.

For example, widgets in One UI 5 come with exciting new options and the ability to keep your Home screen neat and tidy with new Stacked widgets. Furthermore, you can also control all the devices connected to your smartphone in the new Connected devices menu, where you’ll be able to access all features that work with other devices such as Quick Share, Smart View and Samsung DeX. You also now get easy access to the Auto switch Buds menu, which lets you automatically switch your Buds from one device to another for more seamless inter-device operation.

Convenient Security and Peace of Mind

Samsung understands that there is no privacy without security, so in One UI 5, these two settings have been brought together in one clear, easy-to-navigate dashboard, making it easier than ever for you to keep your device protected and your sensitive information private.

This new Security and privacy dashboard has been designed to be as simple as possible to make quick and easy to understand your device’s status. With one quick glance, you can get a quick overview of your device’s security and find suggestions and warnings depending on the status.

To make sure your private information stays private, One UI 5 also features a new notification on the Share Panel² that warns you if you’re about to unwittingly share a photo that contains potentially sensitive information such as an image of your credit or debit card, driver’s license, Social Security card or passport.

Easy To Install

After opening the box, we found that the 32-inch monitor’s neat white color really stands out. The device features a vertical herringbone pattern on its back that creates a sophisticated vibe, as well as an eye-catching attachable camera. The box also includes a simple yet sturdy-looking stand, a USB-C cable, a micro HDMI cable (micro HDMI to HDMI) and a tiny remote control that fits comfortably in your palm — a rare addition for today’s monitors. The monitor comes with a battery-free remote control that conveniently charges via a USB-C port. There are three external ports in all: one micro HDMI port, one upstream USB-C port and one downstream USB-C port. The middle USB-C port also supports 65W charging.

With a simple assortment of items, installation is easy. First, connect the stand’s neck to its base and fasten the bolts at the bottom. Next, connect the assembled stand to the monitor by sliding it into place top edge first and then pushing down until you hear a click. To disassemble the device, simply push the button that disconnects the stand from the monitor.

An Ultra-Slim Design That’s Easy on the Eyes

After assembling the monitor, we immediately noticed just how simple, neat and slim its design really is. Measuring just 11.4mm thin, the device is less than one-third the thickness of the previous version. Its warm white hue gently radiates a soft vibe, complementing any design or space. The organic herringbone pattern on the back adds a sophisticated touch that stands out even more when the monitor is installed in an open room setting.

The monitor’s Height Adjustable Stand (HAS) is particularly convenient. When a monitor is aligned below a user’s eye level, it forces them to constantly look down, which can cause neck pain. The Smart Monitor M8 can not only be tilted at different angles, but also allows users to adjust its height to match their eye level. This means there’s no need to use other items or stands to elevate the screen. The height of the monitor — measured from the surface of the table to the bottom bezel — is 3.6cm at its lowest setting and 15.6cm at its highest setting.

SlimFit Cam Makes Video Calls More Satisfying

The Smart Monitor M8 also comes with a wireless SlimFit Cam (1920×1080, 30p) that makes it perfect for video conferencing and online classes. The camera can be conveniently attached or detached from the monitor at any time. It connects to the device using pogo pins, which means there’s no need for wires. This keeps the monitor’s back uncluttered and streamlined.

Samsung Electronics today announced the global availability of its all-new Smart Monitor, an innovative, do-it-all screen that brings together an unprecedented suite of features for work, learning and entertainment in a single display.

Designed to meet the new needs of today’s consumers, who are now working, learning and consuming entertainment at home, Samsung Smart Monitor incorporates powerful mobile and PC connectivity, remote home office and learning features as well as Smart Hub, a comprehensive entertainment hub, similar to Samsung’s built-in Smart TV platform.

“Around the world, work, education and entertainment have transformed into home-centered activities,” said Hyesung Ha, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “With this new normal, it is no surprise that most indicators show a rise in digital activities and many are rethinking their technology use at home. Our new Smart Monitor is a direct response to that demand. Consumers no longer have to choose between a screen for one or the other as this display brings it all together.”

The new Samsung Smart Monitor provides numerous connectivity options for both PCs and smartphones. Users can connect their personal mobile devices with just a simple tap using Tap View,¹ App Casting or Apple AirPlay 2. For a complete desktop experience using a mobile device, users can also connect to the monitor with Samsung DeX.

For home office and learning, the display operates Microsoft Office 365 applications² without a PC connection thanks to embedded Wi-Fi, allowing users to view, edit and save documents in the cloud directly from the monitor. Remote Access also allows users wirelessly and remotely access files from a PC or view content from a laptop whether it is situated elsewhere in the house or at the office. The USB Type-C port³ allows for data, display and power — up to 65W — with just a single connection, keeping the area around the monitor clean and beautiful. Multiple USB ports and Bluetooth 4.2 allow for additional connection versatility while the display has built-in two channel speaker.

When work is done, the display also operates as a complete entertainment hub with the ability to stream content with Samsung’s Smart Hub. The monitor’s app store allows users to stream their favorite content including Netflix, HBO and YouTube⁴ even without a connection to a PC or mobile device. Content can easily be accessed with the supplied remote control, which includes streaming service hot keys. The display can also be controlled by voice thanks to Bixby integration.

The Smart Monitor also features technology designed to make viewing more comfortable. Adaptive Picture optimizes picture quality for any viewing environment by automatically adjusting brightness and color temperature in response to room conditions. This ensures the most comfortable viewing experience in any environment, reducing eye strain even after extended use. The monitor also features a special eye-saver mode to reduce blue light.

The monitor is available in two models at launch. The M7 supports Ultra-High Definition (UHD) resolution in 32-inch while the M5 supports Full HD (FHD) resolution in 32-inch and 27-inch options.

Once Galaxy S10 users download the update, they’ll notice that their smartphone’s pro-grade camera has become even more powerful. The update expands the camera’s Night Mode to include support for the front-facing camera as well – offering users more freedom to snap vivid shots after dark. It also introduces enhanced Super steady video stabilization, as well as support for dynamic Galaxy Note10 functions like AR Doodle and Live focus video recording. The former lets users enhance their videos with fun, augmented-reality drawings and messages, while the latter lets them apply bokeh effects (including blur, big circle, color point and glitch) to videos recorded with the front or rear camera.

Whenever Galaxy S10 users capture a memorable clip, the camera’s new, Gallery app-accessible video editor offers all the tools they’ll need to turn it into a share-worthy video. This versatile feature makes it easy to edit videos like a pro, and features simple tools for trimming clips, stitching them together, adjusting playback speed and more. You can even use the function to add subtitles and background music to clips to make your content more unique.

The update also incorporates support for Samsung DeX for PC. Once users download the app from SamsungDeX.com, they’ll be able to launch Samsung DeX on their PC or Mac simply by connecting their Galaxy S10 to their computer via USB cable. Link to Windows support has also been added, which means that Galaxy S10 users will be able to wirelessly connect their phone to their Windows 10 PC and easily view its contents, send and receive messages, and sync recent photos directly from their computer.

Apps that Galaxy S10 users rely on every day, including Samsung Pass and Messages, have also been made more versatile and convenient. Now, Samsung Pass’s setup has been simplified, making it easier for Galaxy S10 users to utilize their device’s advanced biometric technologies to log in to apps and websites quickly and securely. In the Messages app, new icons for adding photos and videos have been positioned to the left of the text window to offer users easy access to the files they need.

To help them get the most out of these convenient features, Samsung Newsroom has compiled a list of ten functions and settings users should consider when setting up their new device. Whether you’re new to the Note series or you’re a long-term fan who’s just upgraded to the latest edition, the features outlined below will help you customize your phone in ways that work for you.

1. Customize Air Actions

As you may have read in our recent in-depth article, the Galaxy Note10’s new S Pen Air actions transform the Note series’ signature tool into a magic wand for controlling your device. The gesture-based controls are completely customizable, which means you can specify exactly which functions you’d like them to trigger within specific apps – such as the Camera, Gallery and Samsung Notes.

For example, using the S Pen to trace a clockwise circle in the Camera app will, by default, trigger the camera to zoom into the frame. However, you can also customize this gesture to change camera modes, switch cameras, zoom out and more, if any of those functions would be more comfortable for you.

You can also specify which frequently used app or feature you’d like to launch when you press and hold the S Pen’s button. This saves users time by making it easier for them to access the functions they need.

2. Adjust Your Side Key Settings

The Galaxy Note10’s sleek and slim design includes an all-new multifunctional key located beneath the volume rocker on the devices’ left-hand side. A double press allows you to instantly open the camera, Bixby or a frequently used app of your choosing, while a press and hold will wake Bixby or pull up the power off menu.

Speaking of, the Galaxy Note10 also introduces more ways for users to power down their device. Now, in addition to pulling up the power off menu with a press and hold of the side key, users can easily turn off their phone by (1) tapping on the power icon integrated into the Quick Panel, (2) pressing and holding the side and volume down keys, or (3) asking Bixby to do it directly.

The side key’s settings can be accessed by swiping down on the Quick Panel, tapping the power icon and selecting ‘Side key settings,’ or by pressing and holding the side key itself.

3. Pick Your Favorite Pens

The Galaxy Note10’s enhanced Samsung Notes app makes it easier for users to get down to work by allowing them to save their favorite pens in an instantly accessible tab.

Once users open Samsung Notes and tap on the scribble icon at the top, they’ll see an icon of a pen marked with a golden star in the bottom left corner of the screen. Tapping that icon will pull up a handy tab containing slots to save up to nine unique pens. With six types of pens, an array of thickness options, and dozens of colors available, it’s easy to find and save the right pen for the job.

Once they’re saved, all it takes to pull up the pen you need when composing a note is a press of the S Pen’s button. Each subsequent press will switch to another favorite pen in your collection.

4. Step Up Your Screen Recordings

The Galaxy Note10’s new Screen recorder not only makes it easy to record what’s on your screen, but also features a picture-in-picture function that allows users, such as vloggers and gamers, to use the front camera to add reactions and commentary to their videos.

To start a recording, simply pull down the Quick Panel and tap on the Screen recorder icon. Once the recording starts, you’ll see icons in the top right corner to enable real-time S Pen annotation, and activate the front camera for the picture-in-picture function.

If you’d like to capture your voice while recording a picture-in-picture video, pull up the feature’s settings by pressing and holding ‘Screen recorder’ in the Quick Panel. There, you’ll find options to (1) record no sound, (2) record media sounds, and (3) record ‘media sounds and mic.’ The settings also allow you to specify precisely how large you would like your picture-in-picture video to be, and select a preferred video quality.

5. Link to Windows

To help users work more comfortably and efficiently, the Galaxy Note10 features Link to Windows integrated directly into its Quick Panel. Now, rather than bouncing from one screen to the other, users can easily connect their Galaxy Note10 to their Windows 10-based PC and mirror their phone’s screen, send and receive messages,¹ and view notifications – as well as up to 25 recent photos – directly from their computer.

Link to Windows can be launched via the Quick Panel or by accessing Settings > Advanced features. Once the user logs in to their Microsoft account, the Galaxy Note10 automatically links to their PC. It’s as simple as that.

6. Connect to Samsung DeX for PC

The Galaxy Note10 takes multitasking to the next level by making Samsung DeX² even easier to use. Now, all it takes to expand your mobile experience to your Windows PC or Mac is a simple USB cable.

Getting started is easy: simply access Samsung DeX’s official website on your PC or Mac to download and launch the Samsung DeX for PC installer, and connect your smartphone to your computer. Once everything’s set up, the program will automatically launch Samsung DeX via a window on your computer’s screen.

From there, you’ll be able to easily drag and drop files between your smartphone and PC, and enjoy more space to manage your go-to apps. In addition, even when it’s connected to your PC, your smartphone can still be used to make phone calls, send messages, and surf the internet.

7. Display Battery Percentage

These days, we’re constantly working, connecting and creating on our mobile devices, which is why we like to keep a close eye on our smartphone’s battery level.

The Galaxy Note10’s default setting is to display battery level via a simple icon on the right side of the status bar. However, users who would like to know exactly how much power they have left can access Settings > Notifications > Status bar, where they’ll find options to display the exact battery percentage, and specify how many notification icons they’d like to see at the top of their screen.

The Galaxy Note10 also features AI software that optimizes battery usage based on how you use your device. To manage your device’s battery optimization, head to Settings > Device care > Battery > Power mode. There you’ll find various power modes for increasing performance and extending battery life, as well as an ‘Adaptive power saving’ function, which enables your Galaxy Note10’s AI to automatically adjust the power mode based on your usage patterns to save power when it’s not needed.

8. Enable Bixby Routines

What if your smartphone were intelligent enough to optimize settings based on your daily routine – switching to Wi-Fi as soon as you got home, and automatically dimming the screen and activating its blue light filter to protect your eyes before you went to bed?

Bixby Routines on the Galaxy Note10 makes all that and more possible. The function utilizes machine learning to learn how you use your phone throughout the day, and recommends personalized routines that can streamline tasks to help you save more time.

The Galaxy Note10 features 14 preset Bixby Routines right out of the box, including ‘Good morning,’ ‘Work,’ ‘Home,’ ‘Before bed’ and ‘Driving.’ Best of all, creating your own Bixby Routines couldn’t be easier. Simply tap on the plus sign at the top of the menu to create a routine that works for you.

9. Rearranging Camera Modes

Because speed can be key when it comes to capturing incredible photos, the Galaxy Note10 allows you to rearrange the order of its camera modes so your most frequently used options come up first. The camera launches on Photo mode by default, and lets you designate the order of the camera modes to the left and right of Photo mode to make it easy to navigate to the mode you need.

If, for example, you like to take pictures of your food, place Food mode immediately before or after Photo. If you tend to use other modes more often than the basic Photo mode, tap on ‘Keep using last mode’ under the ‘Camera modes’ settings to enable the camera to launch on the last mode you used.

10. Quickly Access Brightness Settings

Sometimes – when watching a movie at a theater, for example – we’d like to be able to adjust our smartphone’s brightness quickly and easily. If you find yourself in these situations quite often, consider enabling the Galaxy Note10’s brightness control to be displayed above the notification panel.

To do so, simply swipe down on the Quick Panel, tap on the arrow to the right of the brightness control, and tap on ‘Show control on top.’ The display’s brightness settings also include an ‘Adaptive brightness’ function that allows the Galaxy Note10 to keep track of your brightness adjustments and apply them automatically when you use your device under similar lighting conditions.

Building on the standard set by last year’s Digital Cockpit, the 2019 version addresses the needs of drivers and passengers alike, providing a seamless link between devices, vehicle and home, with simple controls for ease of use.

An Experience Tailored for Every Passenger

For 2019, the Digital Cockpit has increased the number of displays from three to six, delivering tailored infotainment options to more of the car’s passenger. In addition to a new, independent Passenger Display, two Rear Seat Displays also have been added, allowing passengers in both the front and rear to enjoy personalized contents that will keep them entertained during their travels. The Driver Monitoring System (DMS) and Occupant Monitoring System (OMS) are able to recognize registered drivers and passengers, adjusting the environment – such as screen settings and seat position – to provide an experience personalized to their tastes.

Three screens in the front of the Digital Cockpit show the driver important information and settings. The Cluster Display, situated in front of the driver, is a screen that highlights crucial driving information, such as the speed and oil gauge, with a layout that changes according to the driver’s preference. Between the driver and the front passenger is the Center Information Display, which shows Bixby and SmartThings services for cars, as well as basic apps, like navigation and music. Below that is the Control Display, a screen that oversees a host of functions, including air conditioning and sound volume, and can also be used to set the functions on the knobs of the Digital Cockpit.

By connecting their smartphone to the appropriate display via In-vehicle Samsung DeX, passengers can enjoy a smartphone experience optimized for their display and give their full attention to documents and emails, even while on the move.

Equipped with two knobs positioned in the front of the car and two in the back, the Digital Cockpit offers intuitive setting controls. The knobs have a circular UX, similar to the Galaxy Watch’s hallmark display, and can be customized to configure settings most frequently used by the driver and passengers, such as temperature and speaker volume.

Connectivity throughout the Car

With new Bixby, the in-car experience is even more convenient. The intuitive, conversational AI platform allows drivers and passengers to control their third-party apps – as well as automotive-optimized functions – hands-free inside the car.

As our world becomes increasingly more connected, the Digital Cockpit is strengthening the bond between car and home. Last year’s features supported car-to-home interactions, allowing you to check what’s inside your fridge or start up the washing machine at home, all from the driver’s seat. In addition to adding more devices that can be controlled from the car, the Digital Cockpit now also facilitates home-to-car interactions. With the help of SmartThings and Galaxy Home, users can access vehicle status and controls from the comfort of their own home. This means that you can check fuel levels, start up the engine, and cool down or warm up the inside temperature by turning on the AC before jumping into your car.

Smarter Safety

New features have been implemented to further enhance car safety. Incorporating Samsung Electronics’ Exynos semiconductor, the Mirror Replacement Vision System, Front Facing Camera and Driver Monitoring System assist safe driving in a variety of potential scenarios.

Since last year, the Mirror Replacement Vision System has moved to the front left and right sides of the vehicle to reflect where users habitually look when changing lanes. The system can identify moving objects and gives the driver a wider field of view in the direction of the lane they wish to change into.

The Front Facing Camera detects the environment on the roads ahead. This is particularly useful if the driver wants to make a sudden left turn on an intersection or change lanes, for example. The camera identifies vehicles, pedestrians, lanes and traffic signs while driving and warns the driver of any hazards before they act. Data is shown on the Cluster Display, helping the driver make informed decisions on the road.

The Driver Monitoring System will also transmit a warning sound if it detects dangerous behavior, such as driving while drowsy or sending text messages behind the wheel.

As car design embraces new trends in mobility lifestyle, the Digital Cockpit 2019 represents the next stage in vehicle comfort, connectivity and safety. Featuring over 5,000 attendees, roughly 60 technical sessions, and a total of 35 booths, the fifth edition of Samsung’s showcase of technologies designed to empower developers and creators to build the software and services of tomorrow transformed San Francisco’s Moscone West convention center into a crossroads ‘Where Now Meets Next’.

The exciting AI, IoT and mobile advancements unveiled during the two-day event—encompassing, Bixby, SmartThings, UX/UI design and more—will enable partners and developers to create seamlessly connected, intelligent experiences across software, services and devices. The resulting innovations will have the power to change the lives of consumers around the world—ultimately making connected living a reality for more people.

In case you missed it, here’s a rundown of five factors that made SDC18 unforgettable.

#1 Announcements of Exciting Developer Tools

Day one of SDC18 began with a flurry of exciting announcements revealing advancements that will enable partners and developers to unlock the power of AI in their products and services, and demonstrate the true value of connected living to their customers.

Keynote speakers including DJ Koh, President and CEO and Head of Samsung Electronics’ IT and Mobile Communications Division, explained how new additions such as the Bixby Developer Studio and the new and improved SmartThings Developer Workspace will strengthen the world’s most powerful technology ecosystem, and help the company foster an ecosystem of open innovation that spans every aspect of people’s lives.

The speakers also offered a first look at Samsung’s new One UI, as well as the company’s highly anticipated Infinity Flex Display. The former features an intuitive interface that makes interactions with your device more natural, and makes it easier to focus on tasks at hand. The latter features a revolutionary foldable design that lays the foundation for an entirely new kind of mobile experience.

After introducing the exciting new developer tools and resources, the speakers encouraged attendees to experience them for themselves in the exhibition zone.

#2 Expert Insights

Day two of SDC18 kicked off with a bang as Samsung employees and leading lights of the worlds of gaming, film and mobile technology discussed technologies that could dictate the future of their respective fields.

The conference’s Spotlight Session was led by a presentation on Samsung’s latest gaming and AR innovations and partnerships, followed by a panel discussion on the future of gaming that featured Sarah Bond, Head of Xbox/Microsoft, as well as John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, and Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games.

Other keynote speakers headlining day two included Nobutaka “Nobu” Ide, CEO of Wacom, and Spike Jonze, director of the AI-inspired film “Her”. Mr. Ide led a captivating presentation that examined how Samsung’s S Pen is reshaping the ways in which consumers interact with their device to get things done. Mr. Jonze sat down for a fireside chat on the intersection of AI and humanity, and described why he, as an artist, believes that developers should prioritize maintaining the human element when developing AI technology.

#3 A Firsthand Look at Samsung’s Latest Innovations

Samsung packed the conference center with a wide range of exhibits that offered attendees all they needed to know about innovations including SmartThings and Bixby, as well as Samsung’s mobile services, Smart TVs, Tizen, and more.

The interactive exhibits allowed attendees to experience the company’s latest mobile, display and home technologies, and spotlighted innovative ways that partners have utilized them to build dynamic solutions. Featured technologies in the mobile section included devices such as Samsung DeX and the Galaxy Watch, as well as apps and services such as Samsung Pay and Samsung Health.

Other sections of the booth showcased Samsung’s Smart TV services and digital appliances, and highlighted exciting ways to develop IoT, Smart TV and wearable services using the Tizen OS. Visitors to the Tizen section were offered in-depth introductions to TizenRT and the Tizen TV and Tizen .NET SDKs, including rundowns of available APIs, SDK tools and resources.

#4 Fun and Interactive Activities

Each SDC features a full slate of engaging sessions that demonstrate innovative ways for developers to build apps and services utilizing Samsung’s latest technologies. This year’s sessions slate placed Bixby, SmartThings and Samsung’s new foldable UX center stage. Samsung and industry experts answered participants’ every question through fun and informative lectures, panels and discussions.

But the interactive fun didn’t stop there, as SDC18 also included exciting competitions, giveaways and challenges that made the entire experience that much more memorable.

The Bixby Developer Showcase was one such example. In the lead up to SDC18, Samsung challenged developers to come up with first-class Bixby experiences, for the most dynamic submissions. On the second day of SDC18, the competition’s finalists presented their Bixby Capsules, which demonstrate the AI technology’s incredible potential. Competitions like this demonstrate exciting ways that Samsung and developers are making Bixby better.

Each SDC also features a wide array of workshops and activities that allow attendees to get up close and personal with Samsung’s latest innovations.

This year, the interactive workshops were held within the confines of the Code Lab, located at the center of the conference hall. Covering the ins and outs of developing for Bixby, SmartThings, Samsung DeX and more, these in-depth workshops offered attendees the opportunity to hone their coding skills with the aid of Samsung’s experienced instructors. Notable examples included workshops demonstrating how to create a Bixby Capsule for a service, as well as how to build SmartThings apps with TizenRT.

#5 A Peek at Life-changing Projects

Some of the most inspiring exhibits included at this year’s event spotlighted Samsung initiatives that are affecting change in communities that many attendees call home.

The exhibits demonstrated interesting ways that Samsung technologies are being used to create life-changing solutions. One of the most attention-grabbing examples was the booth for Rehago, an innovative training system (created through Samsung Germany’s “Life’s a Pitch” startup competition) that helps hemiplegic stroke patients during recovery.

Other standouts included the exhibits for Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow program, which encourages students to use STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) to develop solutions to issues affecting their communities; Project Pontis, which enables Samsung Smart TV users with physical limitations to control their TV via brain waves; and uSound, an app that helps detect the risk of hearing loss and improves quality of life through communication and education for those affected by it.

Samsung DeX – Samsung DeX gives users a PC-like experience directly from their flagship Samsung Galaxy mobile device. It can be done by simply connecting a a mobile device to an external monitor, or changing a setting on Galaxy Tab S4. DeX enables users to use their phone or tablet as a touch padboard or touch keypad. DeX also offers “dual mode,” so they can continue to use the phone or tablet while working on the external monitor—whether it’s participating in a video chat or drawing and taking notes.  Note9 users can also use their S Pen to advance slides while in DeX mode on a larger screen.

SmartThings Tracker – A small, lightweight GPS tracking device connected through an LTE-M³ network that helps people quickly and more accurately keep track of what matters most. Samsung LM302S – The most user-oriented next generation lighting platform available to date is designed to improve work efficiency by achieving a healthier circadian rhythm (sleep/wake cycles) throughout the day, by promoting daytime-to-evening continuity and healthy sleep. Samsung’s human-centric LED solution can improve a person’s concentration level by as much as 10% for greater work efficiency. Furthermore, it also can help people to sleep better at night due to the melatonin hormone having been suppressed by the LM302S during the daytime.

Samsung SSM-U Series – A new type of smart module featuring a series of tiny radar-based sensors with higher detecting sensitivity than conventional sensors, and invisible transmission for greater design flexibility in smart residential lighting. The SSM-U series can detect subtle movements and transmit the signal to other components to control lighting at the right time.

Developers, especially, appreciate the seamless mobility that Samsung DeX brings to their work. And now, with the new Linux on DeX app, Samsung is making it even easier for developers to code on the go.

When it was first demoed at last year’s Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco, Linux on DeX generated significant buzz within the developer community by presenting a simple and convenient way to use Samsung DeX to build apps within a Linux development environment.

The combination of Samsung DeX and the Linux on DeX app adds new levels of flexibility to developers’ work by allowing them to connect their Galaxy device to a monitor using just an HDMI adapter, and instantly enjoy a fuller computing experience when on the go.

Linux on DeX frees developers from their desks by allowing them to access a PC-like Linux development environment anytime, anywhere. The app enables them to work on both Android and Ubuntu-based Linux distributions. Samsung provides a modified version of Ubuntu for Linux on DeX users, and has been working closely with Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, to provide the best experience.

After testing the app on-site at the event, SDC18 attendee Ericka Jackson said she was impressed by the level of flexibility that Linux on DeX provides.

“I play around with a lot of microcontrollers like Arduino and Raspberry Pi, so being able to have Linux on a more portable platform will be a lot of fun, because then I can take it and access Linux environment outside of my own network,” said Jackson. “It was really impressive. I’m looking forward to playing with it.”

Linux on DeX will be available as a private beta beginning on November 12. Users who are interested in joining the beta program may register here starting on November 7.

  This session will introduce a new Developer Workspace for integrating cloud-connected devices with SmartThings. The workspace will feature new APIs and tools that will streamline development and go-to-market processes. Devices that are integrated with SmartThings will be controlled by Bixby and other voice assistant platforms, as well as a full ecosystem of automation and service integrations.

With the initial release of Samsung DeX, and its companion DeX Station, in 2017, Samsung sought to bring a PC-like experience to the smartphone. Since then, the company has introduced a variety of new accessories to make it easier to use the service, each with its own features and functionality to help people connect in the way that suits them best. 01. The Problem

With the launch of DeX Station, we proved that we could harness the increased power of the Galaxy flagship phones to increase productivity. You could now connect your phone to a monitor and use it much like you would on a desktop to open multiple windows or connect a keyboard and mouse to write emails, play games, conduct video conference calls, and more. But it was missing one small thing: get-up-and-go mobility.

The 2^nd generation of Samsung DeX’s accessories, the DeX Pad, answered some of the shortcomings of the DeX Station in more mobile-friendly way by adding additional functionality, allowing you to turn your smartphone into a touchpad or keyboard. But still, there were opportunities to provide users with more seamless and easier ways to use Samsung DeX.

02. The Goal

We wanted to grow beyond the DeX Station and DeX Pad and approach Samsung DeX as a mobile productivity service and ecosystem that could change how we use our mobile devices. More than two peripheral accessories, we wanted to expand our offerings to provide a more compact and seamless experience for users so they could enjoy a PC-like mobile experience in much easier and various ways. For example, we wanted to make it possible to use Samsung DeX without dedicated accessories, and for users to still use their smartphones while connecting to the service.

03. The Idea

To allow people more versatility, we created a wider variety of connectivity options with different features that suited their unique needs. Not only did we want to enable people to get more done on the go, we wanted them to be able to enjoy new ways of entertainment including using your smartphone as a sketchpad or playing full-screen mobile games, without the need to carry multiple devices. We also wanted to allow people to still use their phones while using Samsung DeX for a more seamless experience.

04. The Solution

We made Samsung DeX compatible with simple HDMI adapters, including Samsung’s Multi Port Adapter, and DeX Cable, giving users more portable and convenient options to connect to Samsung DeX, each offering unique benefits and connectivity options. When connected via an HDMI adapter or DeX Cable, users can simultaneously access content on a monitor and continue to use their phone as normal while connected to Samsung DeX.

05. The Result

With the three new options, there are now five ways to use Samsung DeX to meet the needs of various types of users: Samsung’s HDMI Adapter, Multi Port Adapter, DeX Cable, DeX Pad, and DeX Station. The DeX Station and DeX Pad offer the power to open more windows, leverage higher-resolution screens and charge your device, while the HDMI and Multi Port solutions provide a convenient option for users on-the-go. The low-cost HDMI and Multi Port solutions also provide a much lower barrier to entry for using Samsung DeX and can also be used as regular HDMI adapters.

For the Galaxy Note9, we added S Pen integration so that users can take notes or advance slides while their phone is connected to an external monitor. With these updates, using Samsung DeX is more practical than ever, with options that cater to portability, convenient connectivity, a seamless experience with Dual Mode, and support for third party partnerships including Microsoft and Adobe.

But with all that power under the hood it takes some engineering magic to make sure that all the components stay cool while you’re gaming or doing some intense multitasking. Samsung has innovated smartphone cooling on the Galaxy Note9 with its all-new Water Carbon Cooling system.

Water cooling first debuted on the Galaxy S7, but Galaxy Note9 improves both the capacity and efficiency of smartphone cooling. So how did we make it happen? We’ll let our engineers fill you in on the details with notes from the creator’s lab.

01. The Problem

Making phones with batteries that can last all day and play console-quality games comes at a cost: heat. When a phone’s internals become too hot, the CPU slows down – a problem known as thermal throttling – and leads to a loss in performance. Sluggish gameplay and poor multi-tasking are two major problems that a good cooling system addresses.

02. The Goal

The Galaxy Note9 had an ambitious set of goals. We wanted to create a phone with a battery that could last all day, provide a PC-like experience with Samsung DeX, and handle graphic-intense games like Fortnite. That meant putting in a 4,000mAh battery and the latest 2.7GHz mobile processor, which would challenge the phone’s performance. The new cooling system needed to be both faster and more efficient than previous generations.

03. The Idea

When we launched the Galaxy S7, we introduced a new type of water-based cooling into our phones. It used a porous thermal spreader filled with water, which absorbed the heat and turned into steam and then carried the heat away through a pipe. Once the heat dissipated, the steam condensed into water again. This system was the blueprint for the Water Carbon Cooling system in the Galaxy Note9, but we wanted to make it bigger and more efficient.

04. The Solution

The most difficult part of improving the cooling system was to make it more efficient. The original system was thin and used two Thermal Interface Materials (TIM), one made of highly conductive carbon fiber, to transfer heat away from the processor. Our answer was to add a layer of copper between the two TIMs, making it possible to transfer more heat between the two materials for more efficient heat dissipation. We also engineered a wider thermal spreading pipe, coming in at 350mm³ compared to the Galaxy S9’s 95mm³, to dissipate heat over a wider surface area.

05. The Result

Thanks to the improved Water Carbon Cooling system, the Galaxy Note9 can effectively manage heat generated from its powerful processor. With the wider thermal spreader and enhanced Carbon Fiber interface, the cooling system conducts and transmits heat efficiently to the surface of the device, allowing the Galaxy Note9 to operate at peak performance consistently. When compared to the Galaxy Note8, the upgraded cooling system’s heat absorption is three times greater and the thermal conductivity is 3.5 times higher.

Bridging the gap between smartphone and desktop, Samsung DeX delivers an in-car computing capability by pairing the latest Galaxy smartphones with a mounted display and dedicated keyboard. Linux on Galaxy, an app demonstrated during SDC 2017 in San Francisco, is designed to free developers from their desks by providing a Linux OS environment for their Galaxy smartphone: anywhere, anytime, on-the-move. Smartphones with Linux on Galaxy are capable of having multiple operating systems running at the same time, so developers have the ability to work with their Linux-based distributions of choice on their mobile device, without restrictions. As well as using the Android OS, they can open the app to run any software they require in a Linux OS environment, giving developers the flexibility to choose.

What’s more, Linux on Galaxy is DeX-enabled, meaning that developers can seamlessly move from smartphone to desktop whenever they want to work on a larger screen with a keyboard and mouse.** Currently in its trial stage, Linux on Galaxy is already causing a buzz amongst developers.

Even More Entertainment

Samsung DeX complements the conventional mobile experience. In the world of entertainment, Samsung DeX now offers support for even more mobile games and video streaming services, so users can watch the action come to life on a larger screen.

Samsung’s partnerships with major video game developers such as Super Evil Megacorp’s Vainglory, Game Insight’s Survival Arena, Eric Froemling’s BombSquad and Netmarble’s Lineage 2 Revolution present popular mobile games on the immersive desktop setting through the Samsung Game Launcher app, with a keyboard and mouse for easier gameplay. This allows players to move from mobile to desktop, and back again, without disrupting their gaming experience. In addition, new titles – including Lineage 2 Revolution and Nexon’s AxE – are beginning to support Vulkan API in increasing numbers. The upcoming “mobile title” Square Enix FINAL FANTASY XV POCKET EDITION has been optimized for both Vulkan and DeX, pushing the boundaries of mobile gaming.

With Twitch, users of the video streaming service are provided with a better multitasking experience and can resize the window and play video while running other apps via Samsung DeX.

Powering Productivity

The service doesn’t just enhance mobile entertainment– it also heightens user productivity. Samsung DeX transforms the docked Samsung smartphone into a desktop-like workstation, increasing output for professionals on-the-go.

Users can enjoy an improved email experience—with email clients such as Samsung Email, Samsung Focus, Nine Email and MS Outlook—via an optimized interface with a desktop-like, three-column layout, flexible split view and multi composer.

Likewise, Samsung DeX enables a better collaboration with video conferencing from even more services such as Zoom, BlueJeans and GoToMeeting. Video conferencing has been made simpler with a seamless docking-undocking experience, support for screen and document sharing, and multitasking capabilities that allow the user to stay in the call while taking notes or sending email.

With the Galaxy Note8, the new All Apps user interface offers users a full view of up to 36 of their mobile apps at once, which is an increase from previous view of 25 apps. The enhanced UI makes app access and search more convenient, allowing users to identify and utilize apps faster.

Samsung Electronics released its keynote speaker and program schedule for Samsung Developer Conference (SDC), the arena that brings together some of the world’s most prominent innovators, entrepreneurs, artists and storytellers that are shaping the future of connected thinking and technology.

SDC 2017 will feature a special keynote from DJ Koh, President of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics, who will unveil Samsung’s vision to connect all devices and services in an intuitive way and discuss a new initiative to create a seamless cloud experience for users. Samsung DeX is a new innovation that enables users to connect their Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphone to a monitor, keyboard and mouse to unlock a desktop-like experience. The Android-based platform gives users access to the apps already installed on their mobile while also enabling them to interact with them in new ways. As a result, users can enjoy an additional dimension of convenience and productivity.

Hyoungsik Kim and Minchul Kim of the Service Product Management Group at Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business explain the rationale behind Samsung DeX.

Q. You started this project in 2014. Why is now the right time to bring it to market?

Hyoungsik Kim: In 2014, our IM department had an idea. We wanted to expand the mobile experience to a PC but we had three challenges to overcome. First, the CPUs of smartphones three years ago weren’t fast enough. Secondly, HDMI technology wasn’t ready to offer the connectivity we needed, as response times were too slow. Lastly, the interface of the Android OS did not correspond to those of PCs’, which was a major problem.

In 2017, however, we had the opportunity to use new technology to bring our idea to life. New Android 7.0 mobile devices were brought to market, boasting Display Port (DP) technology that delivers video feedback through cables in powerful 10-nano Application Processors (AP). In other words, the hardware and software had finally caught up to where we needed it to be to develop Samsung DeX.

Q. What feedback have you had from consumers so far?

Hyoungsik Kim: Those who have shown real interest in Samsung DeX are the people who have PCs but tend to do basically everything – from compiling reports to sending video messages to their friends – on their phone. These consumers are highly satisfied with the fact that they can finally enjoy movies, games and other media from their smartphones on a larger screen.

Samsung DeX users also value having a desktop screen that looks different than their mobile screen, with a distinct allocation of apps, in addition to being able to use keyboard shortcuts and mouse gestures such as scrolling and drag and drop.

Q. How is Samsung working to expand the ecosystem of DeX-compatible apps?

Hyoungsik Kim: Although the level of optimization varies, most apps can be used on Samsung DeX. Furthermore, the apps that support Android Nougat 7.0’s multi-window function allow users to adjust the size of the app windows on Samsung DeX.  Even those that don’t support Android 7.0 can still be used on Samsung DeX with a fixed screen size.

There are hundreds of apps that already support Android 7.0 and this number is growing very quickly. As this ecosystem continues to expand, so too will the benefits it offers Samsung DeX users. The window resize feature is great, but we want to achieve so much more. We’re continuously working with a number of partners such as Microsoft and Adobe to provide a highly optimized user interface previously unavailable on a mobile device.

Minchul Kim: Furthermore, Samsung DeX was created as an open platform to make it easier for third-party developers to optimize their apps for the service. In fact, all developers need to do to make their app DeX-compatible is update it according to Android 7.0’s developer guidelines. Samsung also operates a website that offers developers a wealth of information about the Samsung DeX platform as well as FAQs to address their questions.

Q. What are some of the ways Samsung DeX can enhance the mobile workspace?

Minchul Kim: We considered our customers in both B2C and B2B realms. Samsung DeX allows mobile workers and business professionals to remotely and conveniently access their digital workspace and all of the business apps and data they need to get their work done through partner solutions including Citrix. We are also working closely with companies like VMware and Amazon Web Services and will continue to grow our roster of strategic partners.

Moreover, a number of institutions such as finance companies and government agencies are looking for ways to enable their employees to use their smartphones at work and have shown an increasing interest in Samsung DeX. Samsung is beginning to work with these organizations through an ongoing pilot program. As part of the pilot, we will monitor equipment issues, application operation and any other relevant features to ensure that Samsung DeX works smoothly in the working environment.

Samsung DeX is a great solution for the workspace not only because it helps to improve efficiency but is also cost-effective, as it helps to minimize costs such as management fees commonly associated with the utilization of PCs and other devices.

Q. How could Samsung DeX be used in different environments?

Minchul Kim: When creating Samsung DeX, we devised three use cases: light use at home, general use at conferences and workplaces, and last but not least, DeX Lounge.

For example, Samsung DeX makes working on-the-go a breeze. Whenever I go on a business trip, I much prefer to use Samsung DeX than a laptop. Some Samsung Electronics offices even have work stations equipped with monitors and keyboards, allowing employees to work via Samsung DeX. These places are appropriate venues for DeX lounge, which we look forward to growing in the near future.

Hyoungsik Kim: The concept of DeX lounge was born from the idea that many people are hesitant to use their personal accounts on public computers. So, by providing a space where they could simply plug in their smartphone and work from it in the same way they would with a computer, we could create a more comfortable public working environment. We are planning to test out DeX lounge through an upcoming internal pilot project at a coffee shop at the Samsung Campus.

Q. What was the main focus when creating the DeX Station?

Minchul Kim: One of the biggest concerns of our customers is compatibility. Therefore, the DeX Station was designed to make sure consumers would be able to use all of Samsung’s 2017 flagship smartphones with just one device. The DeX Station also charges the phone while it’s being used and is highly portable, adding to its convenience.

Q. As a product manager, what is your vision for the future of Samsung DeX?

Hyoungsik Kim: Email, gaming and virtual reality are already in the realm of the smartphone. However, we hope to expand the role of the device to that of a mobile desktop platform by further incorporating certain features of the PC.

In 2017, we are demonstrating how smartphones can be extended to a desktop-like interface through Samsung DeX. The next step is to add new features as well as establish new use cases to make the service even better.

Extensions Offer Increased Functionality

As mobile browsing has evolved, so too has Samsung Internet. With its comprehensive troupe of extensions, users can enjoy some of the interesting new options offered in the latest Samsung Internet, which we take a closer look at here.

The CloseBy extension, an IoT-to-browser application that seamlessly provides users with more information about their surroundings, is now built into the Samsung Internet web browser. When users approach a Physical Web beacon that pushes a URL, CloseBy will provide a notification.

A practical implementation of this technology can be found at city bus stops enabled with Physical Web beacon technology. As you approach a busy bus stop, CloseBy will receive a notification URL that will allow the user to quickly visit a site that provides information on bus routes and arrival times.

Another notable example of how this extension can benefit users is at art museums equipped with the technology – users can quickly access information on a given work of art via notifications received with CloseBy.

The Samsung Internet 5.4 content blocking extension API has enabled a range of 3rd party content blocker add-ons. Simply tap “Content blockers” menu under “Extensions” settings to download the 3rd party content blocker add-ons. The availability of this feature may vary by country.

No one likes installing too many apps on their phones, which can slow down our mobile devices. This is why Samsung Internet utilizes your phone’s camera with its own built-in QR code reader to allow for fast and easy scanning of QR codes. Simply enable the function under ‘Extensions’ and you can find ‘Scan QR code’ added under the menu.

Often, while navigating on mobile browsers, users experience situations where they wish the browser offered a more seamless way to quickly share information with family and friends. With the Quick Menu function enabled, a floating button will appear on your browser, which can be moved to other parts of the screen if wanted. This allows users to quickly access convenient features, including sharing, opening new tabs and modifying text size. Additionally, users can quickly open new tabs by long-pressing the tab button in the bottom-right corner of the browser. Finally, a familiar star button on the upper-left side of the URL bar allows users to quickly bookmark the current page.

Sharing video content with connected devices is now easier than ever, giving users more options to view content where they please. Video Assistant has an additional layer of functionality built into it – simply tap the ‘View on TV’ button to watch content on a connected television screen or tap the ‘View on Gear VR’ button to view the content with the Gear VR. Furthermore, the unique Video Assistant extension plays videos in its own pop-up players, allowing users to search for additional information while viewing a video at the same time.

Samsung Internet Brings Cross-Platform Functionality

Samsung Internet powers multiple devices in the Samsung ecosystem, including Samsung DeX and Gear VR, to further expand your connected world.

The all new Samsung DeX**, released alongside the Galaxy S8 and S8+ flagships, unleashes an extended desktop-like user experience to bridge the gap between mobile computing on larger connected monitors and screens. The idea he suggested was one where we placed a smartphone on a docking station connected to a monitor. In doing so, we could run all Android apps on the monitor as well as Windows apps using a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)* while conveniently interacting with a keyboard and mouse.

The idea was great, but unfortunately, we couldn’t fully realize it back in 2014 due to many obstacles that couldn’t be negotiated easily, such as the limited processing power on the device.  However, we kept building on it, refining it and working on prototypes year after year while looking for an opportunity to bring it to our users.  The Galaxy S8 is the vehicle that enabled us to introduce our 3-year endeavor, realizing a modest dream, literally born from a piece of paper and some spirited discussion.

We live in a constantly changing mobile world where all the content and information that entertain and inspire us begins and ends with our phones.  We surf the web, we watch movies, we play games – all using a device small enough to fit in our pockets. Now, what if you could connect your smartphone to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and use it like a desktop?  Of course, you might have to turn on your desktop for more complex tasks or gaming, but Samsung DeX adds tremendous value by enhancing the mobile experience for the mobile workforce.

The flagship smartphones are initially available in four markets – U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and Korea – and will continue rolling out to additional markets in the weeks ahead.

With the bezel-less Infinity Display, the Galaxy S8 builds upon its history of creating stunning designs to offer an immersive viewing experience. With the ability to recognize what the phone is looking at, Vision provides support for individuals with visual impairments by facilitating quicker access to important information of their surroundings.

Functionality on the Go with Samsung DeX

Samsung DeX allows users to enjoy a desktop-like experience with their Galaxy S8. Samsung DeX was designed to increase mobile productivity, helpful to those who experience difficulties typing on a smartphone screen, navigating apps on their phones, or seeing content clearly on their phone. Samsung DeX alleviates such hindrances by allowing users to control their phones on a larger display and to operate the phone with an input device of their choosing, such as keyboard and mouse.

Higher Contrast, Increased Readability

Although Samsung’s High Contrast Theme was originally developed to assist users with reduced vision capabilities, users without such difficulties are finding utility in it as well. High Contrast Theme effectively reduces eye fatigue and improves text readability by increasing the visibility of lighter content on darker backgrounds. This becomes especially useful when reading content in dark environments for extended lengths of time. Users can also utilize the High Contrast Theme in conjunction with existing high contrast fonts and keyboard settings for increased functionality.

Different users prefer different color mixes, brightness levels and contrast settings, which is why Samsung will continuously add and update Galaxy compatible themes available for download at Samsung’s Theme Store.

Enhanced Visual & Auditory Assistance Functions

To ensure the Galaxy S8 is as user-friendly as possible, Samsung included several unique technical solutions that allow for more detailed control over the phone. A built-in magnifying glass conveniently allows users to read small font, which reduces eye-strain and enhances the user experience for those with vision difficulties. The phone is also equipped with a Magnifier Widget that allows users to zoom in on small text and apply color filters – essentially eliminating the need for a conventional magnifying glass.

The Galaxy S8’s Voice Assistant function lets users with visual impairments conveniently interact with their device by reading aloud the contents of the screen directly under their finger. Additionally, when you press an icon on your smartphone, a single tap will give auditory information of the item and a double tap will open it. For those who struggle seeing certain colors, the Color Adjustment function allows them to manually fine-tune the colors on their screen and improve readability.

For Galaxy users with hearing impairments and mobility restrictions, the Galaxy S8 offers various convenient solutions for easier smartphone operation. The Sound Detector function picks up a variety of sounds, from a baby crying to a doorbell ringing, to give users on-screen notifications or vibration alerts. With the Universal Switch function, users can also personalize their preferred device interaction method, choosing to either tap the screen, use the front camera to detect head movements or add a compatible, external input device.

Samsung DeX is a new service that lets users use their smartphone like a desktop by providing a seamless, secure mobile to PC transition. Currently compatible with Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+*, Samsung DeX provides an Android-based, desktop-like experience that enables users to seamlessly access mobile apps, edit documents and browse the web. Furthermore, its optimized interface allows users to easily multitask, watch videos in resizable windows, reply to messages via a task bar and more, directly from their smartphone on a larger display using a keyboard and mouse.

A Convenient Mobile Desktop Experience

To get started with Samsung DeX, users simply need to connect the DeX Station, Samsung’s branded docking station, to any FHD (16:9 ratio) supported display with an HDMI port; connect any Bluetooth-enabled, USB or RF-type keyboard and mouse to their phone; connect the DeX Station with a Samsung branded fast charger; and dock their Galaxy S8 in the DeX Station. Once connected, their mobile phone will switch to Samsung DeX mode.

The Samsung DeX interface is easily navigable and consistent with most desktops, as it supports keyboard and mouse gestures such as shortcuts, scrolling and drag and drop. Furthermore, with the ability to quickly shift between applications and adjust application window size with ease, users can see a range of contents all at once and multitask with efficiency.

Meanwhile, the Samsung DeX Home Screen’s Task Bar allows users to see which applications are currently running, while pop-up notifications on the bottom right of the screen notify the user of incoming messages and calls without blocking the screen.

Optimized for Productivity

Samsung DeX’s intuitive applications and services help to maximize productivity by allowing people to work more efficiently whenever and wherever they want.

For example, four Samsung applications are equipped with enhanced features that work in Samsung DeX. Samsung Internet, Samsung’s native browser app, lets users launch the desktop version of websites in multiple windows simultaneously, while MyFiles allows convenient dragging and dropping of files and documents from one folder to another. Gallery makes it easier to browse images with a mouse and keyboard and Samsung e-mail facilitates digital correspondence by letting users easily attach files by dragging and dropping them to the email composer.

Key collaborations with Microsoft and Adobe provide Samsung DeX compatibility with Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and Adobe mobile apps including the Adobe Acrobat Reader and Lightroom mobile apps. A Mobile Workspace Solution

Because the data from their smartphone is only displayed on the monitor, and not transferred from the mobile device, enterprise users can rest assured knowing their information is safe when using Samsung DeX. Furthermore, while connected to the DeX Station, the smartphone continues to be secured by the Samsung Knox security platform, which provides protection against potential threats.

Samsung DeX also allows mobile workers and business professionals to remotely and securely access virtual apps and desktops through partner solutions including Citrix, VMware and Amazon Web Services, whose apps are optimized for Samsung DeX with keyboard and mouse interactions, full screen mode and resizable window capabilities.

The DeX Station contains an HDMI port, two USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, USB type-C power-in and a cooling fan. Additionally, Samsung DeX utilizes Adaptive Fast Charging (AFC) technology to charge the smartphone while in DeX mode.
