Samsung Electronics today announced that it has supplied more than 6,000 hospitality TVs and Smart Signage displays to Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas, the world’s best family vacation. The installation spans guest cabins, crew quarters and public areas — including lounges and theaters. This collaboration marks the latest milestone in a longstanding partnership, with Samsung serving as Royal Caribbean’s official display technology provider across the vacation brand`s fleet over 21 years.

Completing its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral, Florida, in August 2025, Star of the Seas is the second ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon-class series of cruise ships.

Samsung Hospitality TVs and Smart Signage Provide a New Standard of Onboard Experiences

Designed specifically for commercial environments, Samsung’s Crystal UHD Hospitality TVs (HBU8000 model) have been installed in guest cabins aboard Star of the Seas. Through Samsung’s Dynamic Crystal Color technology — which is capable of displaying over one billion colors — the TVs deliver 4K UHD resolution and lifelike, accurate color, ensuring that each guest enjoys clear, vibrant picture quality and an engaging viewing experience throughout their voyage. Each in-room TV also serves as a central information hub that shares a welcome message personalized for each guest, daily activity schedules, destination information and weather and emergency updates, while also offering the ability to revisit onboard programs and announcements at the user’s convenience.

The ultra-slim UHD Smart Signage QMC series is also featured onboard, providing high-resolution content in public areas while maximizing space efficiency.

Two Decades of Collaboration Anchored by Innovation

Since 2004, Samsung has supplied more than 200,000 hospitality TVs and Smart Signage displays across 28 ships in Royal Caribbean’s global fleet. This includes over 6,000 displays for Icon of the Seas — sister ship to Star of the Seas — which set sail in 2024. Backed by 17 consecutive years as the global leader of the commercial display market,1 Samsung continues to lead the industry in delivering reliable, feature-rich displays tailored for hospitality environments.

“What we’ve achieved with Royal Caribbean over the past 20 years is a testament to our shared commitment to innovation and delivering world-class experiences to guests,” said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “As demand for richer entertainment experiences rise, we’re proud to deliver our most dynamic commercial displays to Star of the Seas and look forward to expanding our collaboration in the years ahead.”

Samsung Expands Display Innovation for Compact Hospitality Spaces

Building on its established leadership in cruise and hospitality display solutions, Samsung has introduced the HF8000F model, a 24-inch hospitality TV developed for compact spaces such as crew cabins, hospitals and hotel rooms. As demand grows for smaller displays that can fit multi-occupancy rooms or space-constrained environments, the HF8000F provides a streamlined option with many of the capabilities of Samsung’s 2025 hospitality lineup, including Google Cast, Apple AirPlay, LYNK Cloud for remote display management, Samsung Knox, Samsung TV Plus and Smart Hub. The HF8000F is now available in multiple regions including the U.S., Canada, Australia and Singapore.

Samsung Electronics today announced the expansion of its partnership with Toyota Motor, one of the world’s top-selling automakers, which will bring Samsung’s Smart Signage solutions to additional Toyota dealerships in key markets. This expansion follows the successful large-scale digital transformation of 1,250 dealerships across 40 countries completed in early 2025 in Europe.

As car buyers increasingly move between online research and in-person visits, the partnership aims to create a seamless and connected customer journey by transforming traditional dealerships into dynamic, digitally enhanced environments.

“The trend of digitalizing car dealerships is accelerating globally, and digital signage is playing a key role in that shift,” said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President and Head of Enterprise Business team, Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through our partnership with Toyota Motor, we’re proud to deliver innovative solutions that amplify the car-buying process for customers worldwide. We’re also committed to developing differentiated technologies tailored to the needs of globally diverse markets.”

Enhancing the Toyota Dealership Experience

Samsung has already deployed approximately 23,000 Smart Signage displays in Toyota dealerships across Europe, the Middle East and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), marking one of the company’s most comprehensive commercial signage projects to date.

A range of Samsung touchscreens and indoor LED displays are installed across key areas of Toyota’s digital dealerships, including reception, consultation booths, vehicle display zones and customer lounges. These products include the QMC Series, a 4K UHD display lineup ranging from 43 to 98 inches, featuring a non-glare panel, uniform bezels for seamless portrait or landscape use, and EPEAT1 Silver certification for environmental performance.

Toyota digital dealership customers can browse vehicle models, view product specifications and explore available offers directly through Samsung Smart Signage displays. Touch-enabled interfaces allow for real-time customization, helping visitors build their ideal vehicle configuration on screen. These digital tools support a more interactive and efficient shopping experience, enabling staff to shift their focus from routine product explanations to more personalized customer conversations.

Remote Management With Enterprise-Grade Security

All digital dealership displays are supported by MagicINFO, Samsung’s all-in-one remote device management solution, which enables Toyota teams to monitor screen performance and troubleshoot issues across its display network from a centralized dashboard. This setup helps control hardware, minimize downtime and ensure consistent display operation without the need for on-site support.

Built with enterprise-grade safeguards, MagicINFO is certified under ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 27701:2019 by the British Standards Institution (BSI),2 underscoring Samsung’s commitment to secure and privacy-focused digital signage management.

“Bringing Samsung’s digital signage into our dealerships has added real value at every point of the customer journey,” said Dirk Christiaens, Business Transformation and Brand Experience Manager at Toyota Motor Europe. “There are multiple stages to the car-buying journey, and we must communicate the right information at the right time to deliver a great customer experience. The ability to remotely manage our displays in real time through MagicINFO has greatly increased customer engagement across our digital dealerships.”

According to a recent report from Omdia, the global digital signage market is projected to reach $12.6 billion by 2029. In Q2 2025, Samsung achieved a record-high 38.8% global market share by volume, maintaining its position as the world’s leading commercial display provider for 17 consecutive years.3

Samsung Electronics’ entire line of standalone signage has earned a Silver rating from the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT), an environmental rating system managed by the Green Electronics Council (GEC) in the United States.

EPEAT evaluates products across a range of sustainability criteria, including hazardous substance use, energy efficiency, recycled packaging and corporate social responsibility. This recognition is especially noteworthy as every model in Samsung’s standalone signage lineup is now certified with a Silver rating. Additionally, three touch signage models — the QBC-T (24-inch) and QMB-T (43-inch and 55-inch sizes) — also received the Silver rating.

Since becoming the first company in the signage industry to earn the Reducing CO2 certification from the Carbon Trust in the United Kingdom in 2022, Samsung has continued to advance its sustainability efforts by incorporating recycled plastics into its products.

As a result, in 2025, Samsung’s standalone 4K UHD signage lineup — the QMC series, ranging from 43- to 98-inch models — has received both Product Carbon Footprint and Product Carbon Reduction certifications from TÜV Rheinland in Germany.

InfoComm 2019 was held from June 12 to 14 in Orlando, Florida. Those attending not only received an overview of recent trends in the global display industry, but they were also able to experience the latest innovations in display technology firsthand.

During the event, Samsung introduced various usage scenarios that demonstrated how digital signage could be installed in a variety of environments, ranging from classrooms to retail and offices. Here, to wrap up the 10 Years of Signage Innovation series, we’ll take a look at exciting new possibilities for display technology – some of which are already part of our daily lives.

Three ‘Hot Spots’ at InfoComm 2019

The corner of Samsung’s InfoComm 2019 booth that showcased The Wall Luxury transformed the event space into a movie theater. A modular display based on Micro LED technology, The Wall Luxury transcends the limitations of conventional displays in terms of size, screen ratio and resolution; measures only 29.9mm thick; and features a bezel-less design that allows it to seamlessly merge into the wall and the living room.

When the screen is off, it displays media arts or virtual wallpapers that transform The Wall Luxury into an art piece. As one attendee shared, “Pixels are invisible to the eye even when seen from up close.” Attendees also expressed excitement for the impending surge in demand for luxury home cinema products.

Have you ever wished that a detailed product description would pop up in the background automatically, without requiring you to call for assistance? Samsung MagicINFO 7 is an all-in-one system that manages advertising content on digital signage so consumers can view product information right away.

A new AI-based algorithm enables the system to display the right advertisement at the right time through customization. So for example, when shopping, if you pick up a certain cosmetic product from the shelf, the system will recognize the sensor under the product and instantly display the product information (as seen in the image above). As the system is based on the big data that includes shopping patterns of store visitors and their moving routes, there will be a countless number of scenarios for the system to use.

In meetings, where opinions are shared and decisions are made, easy and efficient communication between participants is crucial. Samsung’s new Flip 65” streamlines these situations by offering users a 65-inch touchscreen with a fast response speed. Visitors who tested out the display remarked on how impressed they were by its ability to recreate the effects of brush strokes. Not only that, the product also features a No Gap Wall Mount that allows it to be easily fixed to a meeting room wall so offices can utilize their space more efficiently.

When Advanced Technologies Enter Our Lives

Such advanced display technologies will completely change many aspects of our lives. What we have only seen in science-fiction movies is gradually becoming reality. Transformations in the office, classroom and restaurants – places where people spend a lot of their time – show us how far we have come in terms of display technology advancements.

Here we see a group meeting at a global company in which two teams from the company’s San Jose and Seoul offices are video conferencing using Cisco’s Webex Room Kit.1 The display’s 4K resolution allows the participants to clearly see the letters on the screen so they can properly discuss the design.

*Sample image

Technological innovations have changed how we work. People have become more inclined to work from home or hold remote meetings, and employ other forms of work that transcend limitations in time and space to make the work process more productive. Samsung’s SMART Signage Solution reflects this trend, and is helping to create ‘smart offices’ in partnership with Cisco.

Thanks to Samsung SMART signage and Cisco’s Webex Room Kit solution, which helps meeting participants in different locations feel as if they’re in the same room, consumers will be able to create virtual meeting rooms without any hassle.

In a middle school math class, a teacher takes advantage of visual aids with complex tables and graphs using Samsung’s Flip. The display helps the teacher conduct a collaborative class, rather than a one-sided lecture, by enabling him to pull up digital textbook files to solve problems with students. Everything written on the screen during class is sent to the students via email, so they don’t have to worry about writing everything down for future reference.

*Sample image

Samsung replaced the blackboard with the introduction of the Flip in order to create a new type of learning environment. One that connects the classroom to new information in real time, and keeps students interested by helping teachers prepare a variety of class materials. This ‘live blackboard’ will help teachers foster a lively class environment that encourages students’ creativity.

For someone whose favorite lunch is a cheeseburger from the place down the street from her office, the trip to the burger joint becomes a daily routine. She’s there today too, as usual. Because she visits every day at around the same time, her favorite set automatically pops up on the kiosk when she is ready to order. When she is ready to pay for her food, the coupon stamps she gathered during the past week pop up as well, automatically applying a discount to her bill.

*Sample image

The role of digital signage in shopping will also expand to the point that it will act as an ‘AI secretary’ that customizes the shopping experience for each customer. In the past, displays were a one-way communication method that offered information to the audience. Now, they deliver customized information according to customers’ behaviors and preferences. Scenarios that cater to the needs of both customers and retailers can be shown on the display, such as an automated message announcing a 20 percent discount when a fruit stall wants to sell off excess inventory.

“We will provide more advanced forms of communication by implementing touch functionality and sensors, as well as a display content management system and analysis function,” said Kay Hwangbo, Signage Products Product Planner at Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business.

A Display that Transcends Limitations

We may not have noticed each and every change, but digital signage is now deeply immersed in our lives, connecting different parts of it together <See 10 Years of Signage Innovation: Episode ①>. For the last 10 years, Samsung Electronics has continuously pushed technological boundaries and maintained its leadership of signage innovation <See 10 Years of Signage Innovation: Episode ②>.

Going forward, Samsung will continue to lead the industry with innovative digital signage solutions. The focus will be about thinking outside of the conventional notion that signage is a one-sided advertisement that feeds information to the audience. The first step is to advance interactive communication that thoroughly analyzes customers’ interests, needs and behaviors.

“The industrial display business boasts huge growth potential,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business. “The industry will become a broader B2B business that covers everything from display hardware to software, solutions, consulting, content development, remastering and more.”

Samsung Electronics today announced that it has recently finished implementing its SMART Signage at the new Istanbul Airport, which will be the world’s largest airport once fully-completed, serving 200 million passengers annually. It will host 2,000 arriving and departing aircrafts, with flights to 350 destinations.

This project includes nearly 700 Samsung SMART LCD and LED Signage, including LED displays covering a total of 1,012 square meters. The total surface area of the LED displays is equivalent to that of 2.5 basketball courts. Thanks to the advanced technical service and logistics capabilities of Samsung, the project was successfully completed by a technical team of 28 in only 45 days with the help of B.T. Global, specialized in digital signage, security, data storage and IT services.

The new Istanbul Airport aims to be the biggest international airport in the world, covering 76.5 million square meters. The first phase of the Istanbul Airport opened on October 29, 2018, the 95th anniversary of the Turkish Republic. The airport’s main terminal building, a 1.4 million square meter space under one roof, is where Samsung led the digitalization project that took place through the installation of digital signage technology. Media Port Istanbul, the operator of the Istanbul Airport Digital Advertisement, entrusted Samsung to provide the digital signages inside the airport and highlighted the importance of integrating cutting-edge technology systems with elegant design of displays.

Samsung’s eye-catching LED signage will welcome visitors who enter Istanbul Airport with two giant 193-sqm LED screens at the international departure gate near the hotel area and the front office. Passengers will also encounter Samsung LED signage from arrival halls and baggage claim areas to check-in areas, passport control and lounges.

“We are proud to participate in one of the most significant projects in Turkey’s history and a great achievement in global aviation,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung SMART Signage not only guarantees excellent colors and picture quality to capture visitors’ eyes, but its durable, IP5x-validated design ensures 24/7 continuous content delivery regardless of environmental factors, including dust, dirt and lighting exposure.”

“Samsung’s brand reliability as a global display business leader was one of the most important considerations when determining who would manage this important project since it had to be executed with precision in such a short period of time,” said Kadri Samsunlu, Chief Executive Officer of Istanbul Grand Airport (IGA). “We appreciate the quality of Samsung’s cutting-edge technology together with Media Port Istanbul’s market experience for our new Istanbul Airport to take one step further to grow as a major travel hub.”

A More Powerful, Effective Signage Platform: Tizen 3.0

Upgraded from the previously-included Tizen 2.4 platform, the Tizen 3.0 platform features a more powerful graphics engine that produces richer and clearer video content compared to its predecessors across a user’s SMART Signage network. This includes faster response, interactions and loading speeds that ensure uninterrupted playback and transitions free of black screens to present messages more seamlessly.

Tizen 3.0 also reduces the time and resources required to deliver higher quality digital signage content for business users. The integrated Knox security platform provides a multi-layered solution that protects the SMART Signage’s systems against external attacks, while also offering security APIs to Tizen developers. This enhanced protection makes it safe to develop and host a range of security-reliant services, including confidential payment and workplace content, within the Tizen 3.0 platform. As a result, all involved stakeholders can centralize operations for a variety of display types, including UHD displays, outdoor signage, touchscreen signage and interactive whiteboards, without needing a separate PC.

Next-Generation Picture Presentation

The displays also achieve 100 percent color volume for up to 1 billion different color variations and bring forward subtle details at varying levels of brightness when combined with optimized contrast and a distortion-free picture. The QLED Signage’s universal wide viewing angles also enable businesses to tailor the displays according to their dimensions and needs.

Superior LED HDR Picture Quality

Samsung also will showcase its fine pixel pitch IF Series LED displays (P1.5, P2.0 and P2.5 models) at InfoComm, offering an ideal combination of superior picture quality and intuitive usability for businesses to rejuvenate the customer engagement experience. The displays combine the company’s leading video processing and picture tuning technologies with LED HDR picture refinement to add clarity and sophistication to featured content. The displays analyze and fine-tune grayscale levels frame-by-frame to optimize contrast and eliminate visual inconsistency via specialized scene adaptation and provide high brightness levels of up to 2,400 nits enabled by dynamic peaking. Also, the IF Series’ dual full-front and rear-side access further drives convenient, quick-turn maintenance without sacrificing a neat and seamless presentation.

Customizable LED Displays for any Business

By unveiling its new XPB Series LED Signage, Samsung also will invite InfoComm attendees to see first-hand how it has made the conversion from static analog signage to more versatile LED displays easier than ever. Available in four models (P6, P10, P16 and P20), the all-inclusive XPB Series displays offer an all-in-one package and the durable aluminium unibody cabinet structure extends the displays’ shelf life while ensuring a quick, seamless installation even for managers with little to no technical expertise.

Samsung Electronics today announced the global launch of its P-Series standalone SMART signage, the world’s first Tizen-powered premium displays. Utilizing the versatile strengths of Tizen as an open source platform as well as in performance and usability, the P-Series displays, including the PHF (700nit brightness) and PMF (500nit brightness; except 32-inch display) models, will also be the first to feature the upgraded fourth generation Samsung SMART Signage Platform (SSSP 4.0).

“The launch of Samsung’s new P-Series signage represents a landmark moment for our business, as we’ve made our already industry-leading visual displays even more capable with the addition of the Tizen platform to our SSSP,” said Seog-gi Kim, Senior Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “By equipping our displays with faster and more versatile content management tools, our customers will be better prepared to solve their most prominent customer engagement challenges.”

Advantages as Open Source Platform

With SSSP partners typically preferring an open source platform for standard web APIs rather than closed platform, the new P-Series displays, powered by Tizen, feature the advantages of a cross-architecture, open source platform based on a comprehensive standards-based HTML5 implementation. The new displays also will enable easier web app development with an upgraded Tizen Emulator and new Remote Debugging Tool.

Powerful and Durable Performance

The slim-designed PHF (43-, 49- and 55-inch) and PMF (32-, 43-, 49- and 55-inch) series standalone displays are the first in Samsung’s line-up to showcase content using the SSSP 4.0’s reinforced graphics engine. As result, the P-Series displays enjoy animation performance three times better than that of previous SSSP iterations, including enhanced response times and seamless playback. P-Series users relying on real-time audience engagement gain expanded options to deliver clear content. The displays support smooth transitions between a variety of formats, without black screens or interruptions.

The Tizen-powered P-Series displays are designed for uninterrupted, 24/7 operation in any location, reducing maintenance burdens and improving peace of mind for users. Both the PHF and PMF models are IP5X certified, validating their ability to perform at optimal quality when exposed to a range of environmental factors and making them ideal for locations subject to dust and dirt, including subway stations and bus terminals.

Simple Usability

As an all-in-one signage alternative, Samsung’s P-Series displays condense complex display operations into a single, easy-to-navigate hub that does not require external PCs or devices to function. With the new MagicInfo Server 4.0, users can manage their entire signage portfolio through a central remote server in real time and make adjustments across individual displays or display groups from any location. A complementary toolset, including the Web Simulator and Tizen Emulator programs, further extends content development opportunities by enabling users to build and launch web-based management applications directly within the SSSP 4.0 platform.

Samsung’s P-Series displays also contain an integrated centralized infrared receiver (IR) to drive more convenient operation. Although hidden from view, the centralized IR is compatible with remote control devices and drives faster and easier navigation than most standard displays, which place the IR component in harder-to-operate corner locations, allow.

Slim-Design for Any Setting

A slim-depth (29.9 mm.) and narrow bezel (6.9 mm.) design makes Samsung’s P-Series displays among the thinnest on the market. This compact design expands implementation possibilities, and enables space-constrained businesses to connect with audiences in previously untapped locations. Additionally, the narrow bezel composition ensures viewers remain focused on featured content rather than the display itself.

As the Tizen-backed P-Series displays enter the marketplace, several prominent companies already have recognized their ability to foster improved operations and business growth. Signagelive, a global cloud-based digital signage technology platform provider, recently migrated its media player software to SSSP 4.0. The implementation makes Signagelive’s platform fully compatible with Samsung’s SMART Signage line-up, and accelerates customer deployment.

In famous locales such as Madrid’s Plaza Callao, corporate logos and towering displays illuminate the streets and captivate the passers-by that wander past them. They are a shining example of how much signage has become ingrained in our daily lives.

Out-of-home outdoor digital displays, often referred to as DOOH (Digital Out-of-Home) signage, like the interactive billboards and street guides that have transformed the world’s cities, are perhaps the most obvious example of the evolution of modern communications. In fact, signage is completely changing the way we interact with the world around us.

Signage is Everywhere

For example, with the incorporation of the Internet of Things and big data, signage allows for a more personalized shopping experience. This is exemplified in new displays that utilize consumers’ shopping histories to recommend specific products, or allow customers to see virtual models that share their height, weight and even hair color posing in a selected outfit.

Restaurants, too, are leveraging digital signage to enhance the dining experience through interactive digital menus that let diners easily customize their orders.

At concerts and sporting events, digital signage provides a full view for all so that not a minute of the action is missed. With the addition of AR technology, the audience can learn about the performers or players in a way like never before, taking entertainment to an entirely new level.

In the workplace, teams can now connect their own devices to LED signage to more conveniently collaborate on projects. In this way, signage drives a more open idea exchange, and helps participants overcome the limitations of one-way communication. It also significantly improves professional and educational presentations by allowing for enhanced engagement through captivating visual media.

Transportation is yet another sector that stands to greatly benefit from digital signage. Displays that provide up-to-the-minute information refine the customer experience at train stations, bus terminals and airports. Once en route, passengers are kept informed and entertained by on-board displays.

While these are just a few examples of how digital signage has infiltrated—and improved—everyday life, modern technologies have the potential to drive even bigger changes in the tourism, recreation, healthcare and security arenas, among countless others.

And, considering the rate at which the market is expanding, as well as the consistent efforts of companies entering the space, these changes will no doubt take place sooner than later.

Samsung, A Leader in Digital Signage for Seven Years

According to Mordor Intelligence estimates, the global digital signage market was valued at $14.9 billion in 2015, with a projected annual growth rate of eight percent. At this rate, digital signage will continue to escalate to $21.9 billion in value by 2020.

Ranking number one in annual global digital signage unit sales since 2009, and having recently extended its global market share to 28.1 percent in 2015*, Samsung has established itself as a leader in this ever-growing market.

Samsung continues to maintain its position through its state-of-the-art technologies that suit a wide range of business needs, including LCD-based transparent displays, the world’s largest e-LED signage, ultra-narrow, slim-bezel video walls (including the UH55F-E model), UHD signage and DOOH-equipped trucks.

The company’s achievements have garnered industry-wide attention at global events, such as the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2016 tradeshow, the largest annual exhibition for commercial display technologies. It was here that Samsung received an “AV Display Innovation of the Year” award from AV News.

Later on at InfoComm 2016, Samsung Electronics’ OHD Series outdoor signage was named the “Best Outdoor Display” by Commercial Integrator. Additionally, Digital Signage Magazine and Rental & Staging Systems both selected Samsung’s UH55F-E model as the top video wall, while rAVe Publications named Samsung Electronics as the industry’s most favored display manufacturer for the second consecutive year.

Following their previous successes, Samsung made an impression at IFA 2016, when the company unveiled its first Motion Sensor Touch Solution, a new display that combines 3D sensors with digital signage to provide content based on users’ physical actions.

Evolving Digital Signage for Next-Generation Communications

As our world becomes more sophisticated with each passing day, so too does digital signage.

Once-complex communications can now be relayed through simple images, making retail signage, outdoor displays and road signs that allow for unlimited possibilities. Additionally, digital signage has evolved to accommodate a wide variety of content, providing new avenues to deliver engaging and aesthetically-appealing messages while replacing analog signage all together.

As the race to create the “next big thing” in signage continues to accelerate, Samsung Electronics remains a leader by offering innovative solutions that have the power to transform the future of global communications.

Samsung’s SMART Outdoor Signage offers an all-purpose solution for businesses looking to display vivid visuals in even the most demanding environments. Backed by an ultra-durable design, SMART Outdoor Signage is built to rebuff the typical wear and tear associated with both inclement weather and life in bustling urban jungles, allowing businesses greater versatility to broadcast their stories and create meaningful impressions.

Behind the sleek contours and svelte, 85mm frame are certifiably rugged specs. SMART Outdoor Signage is IP56-certified dust- and water-resistant and designed to deliver crisp visuals in demanding situations. Also, an anti-Infrared-coat cuts off heat from outside the panel while a water-proof cooling fan helps regulate temperatures, allowing the display to operate in a wide temperature range of -30˚C to 50˚C.

The Magic Glass screen features a 5,000 to 1 contrast ratio, reflection reduction technology and 2,500-nit brightness, completing a design that ensures that your visuals are not only physically reinforced, but optimally displayed at a quality validated by TÜV Rheinland.

Samsung’s SMART Outdoor Signage may be rooted in utility, but it also fosters great creativity. Such versatility in design offers businesses more unique entry points to display their content, and creates more opportunities to sync messaging with the pulse of the city around it. The result is an easy-to-install, all-in-one creative solution from the world’s leading display and signage company that allows your business’s visuals to make a mark on their environment, and not vice versa.

See how Samsung’s SMART Outdoor Signage holds up against particularly extreme urban abuse in the video above.

Samsung Electronics, will showcase the latest additions to its industry-leading digital signage and visual display solutions portfolio at the InfoComm 2016 tradeshow. Scheduled to take place June 4-10, 2016, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, InfoComm is the largest annual global conference for the professional AV industry and is expected to welcome more than 40,000 attendees from nearly 110 countries.

Under the theme “Collaborate. Attract. Engage.”, Samsung’s booth (#C-6319) will include a variety of next-generation technologies designed to promote more efficient content delivery and display management in corporate, hospitality, public, retail and at-home environments (among others). Highlighted by the integration of the Tizen operating system into many of its newest digital signage technologies, Samsung’s diverse line-up will demonstrate how booth visitors can drive greater engagement, and related sales, through clear, cost-effective message presentation.

“As the world’s leading total digital signage solutions provider, we strive to discover new avenues that help our partners deliver captivating content and a differentiated experience at every stage of the customer journey,” said Seog-gi Kim, Senior Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are excited to introduce the latest expansion of our cutting-edge visual display lineup at InfoComm 2016, and showcase how these new technologies solve prominent challenges and drive growth in today’s fast-paced business environments.”

A Powerful, Fourth Generation Signage Platform : The Power of Tizen

Beginning in 2016, Samsung’s new P Series digital signage technologies will feature the enhanced fourth generation Samsung SMART Signage Platform (SSSP 4.0) powered by the Tizen operating system. With Tizen, SSSP will deliver more powerful graphic performance and seamless content playback to expand users’ visual display possibilities while creating a more vivid and memorable experience for their audiences.

The Tizen-powered, fourth-generation SSSP features an upgraded graphics engine to drive faster response time, interactions and loading speeds. The platform additionally enables users to manage display content more rapidly through an optional PC-less all-in-one screen.

The refined SSSP 4.0 platform allows users to build and launch web-based applications by offering HTML5 support and a comprehensive toolset, including Web Simulator and Tizen Emulator. The new platform’s versatility expands users’ content development capabilities while reducing activation time.

Comprehensive Enterprise Display Management

A key component of the improved SSSP 4.0 platform, Samsung’s MagicInfo Server 4.0 program enables users to manage their entire display network from any location through a centralized server. Reliable and easy to use, MagicInfo Server 4.0 integrates a dedicated Backup Player and DataLink content streaming functionalities to reduce the manual work required to share essential information.

The enhanced MagicInfo Server 4.0 program additionally offers enterprise users a more capable set of content creation, scheduling and deployment tools. Content managers can leverage an intuitive interface, including drag-and-drop content scheduling, to rapidly identify and implement updates. MagicInfo Server 4.0 further makes content programming easy through a design that does not require JavaScript or additional plug-ins to operate, reducing steps to save valuable time.

Durable Standalone Signage

Samsung’s new standalone displays (PHF and PMF Series) provide a slim, strong and simple signage solution for environments facing tight or irregular space limitations. Featuring a slim-depth design (29.9mm) and narrow bezel (6.9mm), the PHF and PMF displays are among the thinnest on the market and can accommodate a range of business settings. The Tizen-supported standalone displays are designed for uninterrupted 24/7 content delivery, and an integrated centralized infrared receiver (IR) further ensures continued performance in any environment.

A host of additional design features further enable the PHF and PMF Series displays to deliver clear, brilliant content regardless of location. A non-glare frontal panel reduces natural and ambient light reflection to ensure continuous readability.

Industry Leading Large-Sized Outdoor Displays

InfoComm attendees also will get the first look at Samsung’s new large-format OHF Series outdoor displays. Billed as industry’s leading large-sized outdoor signage, the OHF Series is available in a variety of sizes (46-, 55-, 75- and 85-inch models), with each boasting a slim-depth design for more impactful content delivery.

The OHF Series displays are equipped with SSSP 4.0 and powered by the Tizen operating system, ensuring faster and more reliable content development and delivery. An embedded power box condenses operational components to a single system, conserving space while streamlining management. Engineered for any outdoor environment, the OHF Series displays can withstand temperatures ranging from -30-50oC without impeding content delivery. OHF Series viewers additionally benefit from external magic glass, 2,500nit brightness and a 5,000:1 contrast ratio that ensure messages can be seen clearly at any time and place.

Extreme Narrow-Bezel Video Walls

Optimized for a range of indoor retail, corporate and public-viewing applications, Samsung’s narrow bezel (1.7mm bezel-to-bezel) UHF-E video walls combine advanced color management capabilities with the visual enhancements of large-format signage to deliver clear and consistent content. The ultra-slim design eliminates distractions and keeps viewers focused on the display’s content rather than the display itself. Equipped with the same durability and color presentation components as its predecessors, the UHF-E video walls represent a sleek, stylish alternative capable of delivering uninterrupted content in any indoor setting.

Fine Pixel-Pitch LED Signage

Designed for corporate, control room and customer-facing environments, Samsung’s indoor SMART LED displays deliver compelling content and inspire collaboration at a lower total cost of ownership. These displays feature top-tier diodes and customizable pixel pitch compositions ranging from 1.5-2.5mm, providing seamless visibility while simultaneously accommodating users’ specific operational and branding needs. Combined with design elements that produce the same deep contrast, realistic picture quality and color consistency viewers expect from Samsung’s latest televisions, the LED signage portfolio offers users an extra edge to stand out within often-crowded indoor environments.

For the seventh consecutive year, Samsung Electronics maintained its position as the worldwide leader in digital signage unit sales. Recently released sales figures from IHS, the leading source of insight, analytics, and expertise in display technology, validate Samsung’s leadership in the industry, its pole position dating back to 2009.

According to the IHS Technology report “Public Display Market Tracker Q1 2016”, Samsung accounted for 28.8 percent of the global market share for digital signage unit sales. This signifies an increase on the 26.9 percent market share which Samsung maintained at the close of 2014.

While customers move through the drive thru lane, marketing and up-selling opportunities are quite literally passing them by. As outdoor signage continues to evolve, restaurants are seeking digital technology to engage this captive audience and capitalize on profit-maximizing and brand-elevating opportunities. To get the most out of an investment in digital drive thru signage, there are three main factors any restaurant should consider.

Superior Visibility

A customer, rushing to make the most of a short lunch break, pulls into the drive thru for a grab-and -go meal. Once she pulls up the ordering station, however, she realizes that the glare of the sun is making it impossible to read the menu. Frustrated, she orders some version of the usual, misses out on the special combo of the day, and vows to try the restaurant across the street next time. Outdoor digital displays have the ability to engage customers with compelling and relevant information—but only if that content can actually be seen.

One of the main concerns with early generation outdoor displays was the effect of brightness and glare on the readability of the content—something anyone who has ever tried to use a laptop outside can relate to. As Young Cho, a senior product manager from Samsung specializing in outdoor displays says: “The purpose of having the signage is to get the message through to the customer, so it’s important that the proper technology is implemented to make sure that any reflection is cancelled and people can actually see the content.”

This applies not only to the menu, but also to the order confirmation screen, since order accuracy is absolutely critical for customer satisfaction in the drive thru. Most indoor LCD displays have a brightness of 300 to 350 “nit”—a measure of luminance. For an outdoor display to be equally vivid in intense sunlight, outdoor digital signage must have at least 700-nit brightness.

Samsung’s OHD Series SMART Outdoor Signage provides this level of readability with LED backlighting, delivering vibrant content even in direct sunlight. These displays measure in at more than 2,500 nit, paired with energy-saving Auto Brightness sensors and an easily customizable brightness range.

High brightness is not enough, as glare from the sun also impairs visibility. Samsung’s outdoor signage is equipped with protective anti-reflection glass which reduces the total reflection to 0.5 percent and makes content clearly visible even under direct sunlight. Plus, the high contrast ratio of 5,000:1 creates an optimum viewing experience in any light, during any time of day or night. The displays are even equipped with circular polarizing technology, which means that customers wearing polarized sunglasses can view them without a problem.

Cost-Reducing Durability

With torrents of rain and wind swirling outside, your restaurant is empty. On days like this, you put your faith in the drive thru, where customers can grab a delicious meal without getting out of their cars and stepping into the pouring rain. Only two customers in, however, you realize that the graphics and text have shorted out in the inclement weather. The next day you wake up to a sunny sky and renewed hope, only to find that vandals have left a surprise message in bright yellow paint directly over your outdoor menuboard.

Now, instead of rejoicing over all of the sales you plan to recoup that day, you have to worry about the cost to repair your outdoor signage, along with worries about what your customers will think. By investing in outdoor digital signage with special tempered glass, you’re protecting against vandalism, spray paint, and hard impact—ensuring that promising mornings stay promising. You also decide it’s time to invest in outdoor signage that remains clear and high-performing in any weather.

“Digital signage has to resist the summer heat, winter’s freezing temperatures, pouring rain, and dust, among other things,” Cho says. “On top of all of that, it has to be protected from vandalism, so there’s a lot to consider.” Cho says that as a baseline, waterproof, IP-rated hardware is a must. Samsung’s IP56-rated, waterproof and dustproof design extends protection to the fan, drain hole, and power outlets, as well as the main display, while a steady cooling system eliminates the risk of overheating.

In addition to handling tough blows from vandals, Samsung’s outdoor digital signage is designed to handle tough blows from moody weather as well, with a temperature range of negative 22 degrees to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. By effectively protecting outdoor displays, owners can reduce repair costs and avoid risking lost sales opportunities resulting from inclement weather or environmental conditions.

Convenient Design

To make up for the past few days of lagging sales—and hopefully pay for the graffiti removal—the general manager has asked you, the IT manager, to immediately roll out a new LTO. He has also requested you update the calorie count for some of the menu items. With the old static signage, you would have had to go through a long process of designing, printing, and distributing the new content. With the new centralized content management system and digital outdoor displays, all of this work is simplified to a few clicks.

The ability to conveniently create, manage, and push out new content to outdoor digital displays is the final factor in building a successful outdoor display program. It’s particularly helpful if the same provider of the hardware can step in to provide this content-management software with a hard-to-beat, all-in-one system.

Samsung’s MagicInfo content management platform allows users to create, schedule, and deploy content to multiple displays in multiple locations. MagicInfo comes with a suite of creative tools, enabling brands to design eye-catching digital signage, all the way up to complex, interactive multimedia displays. The solution comes standard on Samsung SMART Signage products.

Furthermore, distribution of the created content can easily be distributed to the outdoor drive thru signage and managed in a centralized location due to an HDBaseT connection, which allows for smooth flow of content even over long distances. Samsung signage also comes with the industry’s first System-on-Chip (soc) embedded media player—the Samsung SMART Signage Platform (sssp)—which streamlines the process of uploading content and eliminates the need for external hardware to run digital content.

All of this is conveniently housed within a slim, stylish, compact design for easy installation. Measuring in at only 90.3 millimeters in depth, this signage includes an embedded media player, power box, cooling system, and more. With the clear benefits and increased selling power that outdoor digital displays bring, brands are looking for this trifecta of visibility, durability, and convenience to push their drive thru sales and accuracy to the next level.

Samsung continues to bring innovation to the next level with forward-thinking designs and capabilities, allowing restaurants to keep current customers happy while engaging the next generation. “We continue to study the dynamics of quick serves and the drive thru in order to develop optimized and impactful displays,” Cho says. “Our displays provide a unique business solution to fill the gap in the outdoor signage market by delivering industry-leading brightness and enhanced functionality, allowing business owners to create and deploy powerful and attractive messages easily.”

By harnessing the ability to relay information in creative, easily readable, and easily updated ways, outdoor digital displays are adding customer engagement and operator ease into the drive thru equation.

Video displays increasingly are becoming must-haves for content delivery in retail environments. Compared to paper posters, video content is brighter and livelier. Additionally, video displays are much easier to update and change, ensuring that store messaging remains current and the right fit for each day and each location.

Many of the most popular and most advanced digital signs in the world are made by Samsung Electronics. These signs operate on the Samsung Smart Signage Platform (SSSP), an integrated media player system, and use the MagicINFO software to manage the content. SSSP displays can be found around the world in locations where businesses need to communicate quickly and effectively with customers, including sports stadiums, restaurants and retail outlets.. In fact, Samsung has been the global market leader in digital signage for seven years.

Both systems recently have added new upgrades, making them more powerful, versatile and easier to use. Now, retailers and commercial operators can create impactful, exciting content easily, giving them the tools they need to best engage with their customers.

New SSSP 3.0 expands possibilities

SSSP, the open-source, all-in-one platform for managing display hardware, eliminates the need for an external player with its system-on-chip media player, for a display system that’s intuitive, convenient and low-cost. The content management system is streamlined and easy to control, with content creation tools that are simple to understand and comprehensive.

With the third generation of SSSP, the system is now more useful than ever, thanks to a powerful Quad Core processor and 8GB of storage. The result is enhanced efficiency, higher-resolution content and lowered costs, all using the latest in display technology.

New effects mean better engagement with customers

Signage is only effective if it draws people’s attention, and these days there are more media sources vying to get noticed. This heavy competition makes it more important for signs to stand out and engage customers. The best way to do so is through dynamic, moving content.

The most noticeable change to the MagicINFO 3 platform is the addition of more than 20 dynamic transitions and effects, including 3D, Fade, Zoom, Reveal and Fly-on. These can turn a shop’s signage into a movement-filled, enticing media experience that captures the public’s attention. Thanks to an intuitive and convenient User Experience (UX), these dynamic effects are easy to add.

To highlight information and help content stand out, MagicINFO 3 also has introduced decorative stickers. Stamps and stickers offer a variety of eye-catching labels for advertising sales, highlighting content and maximizing effects. Users can select their desired sticker, then drag and drop it into their content.

An array of new fonts also has been added to MagicINFO 3. Instead of just one font, users can conveniently access six embedded fonts in 23 styles within the Author area. This structure also makes it easy to load more fonts from outside sources, and add them to the authoring tools.

In addition, MagicINFO 3 has added a weather widget that can be dragged and dropped into any sign. Customers frequently turn to signage for weather updates, and this widget allows a user to choose to display hourly, daily or weekly forecasts.

Change your perspective with Pivot PIP

Signs often are installed vertically in “portrait” mode so they can be read like a magazine or newspaper. However, sometimes a store has content that it wants to display horizontally, in “landscape” mode. In the past, this alignment would require users to reinstall the frames and turn them on their side.

With the SSSP’s Pivot PIP (picture-in-picture) functionality, the portrait screen can be divided into three smaller screens, each now in landscape mode. The new screens are still in excellent resolution (up to 1080×720 pixels), and each sub-screen supports videos, slideshows and text.

New DataModule links databases to screens, faster and easier

Even with simple, intuitive UX of MagicINFO 3, signage operators still have to supply a lot of data—images, prices, numbers, times and more. This requires detailed database management. Fortunately, MagicINFO 3 can help here, too, with the introduction of DataModule.

DataModule is a simpler and free version of the DataLink platform, which used to be the main way to handle data and connect MagicINFO with the display data. It’s an easy-to-use way of converting MySQL data into text and images for a sign—for example, turning a restaurant’s database into a full, colorful menu or adding a “sold out” notice for any good that is out of stock.

Backup Play protects your displays

Backup Play is another useful new feature for networks running a variety of signage. In any network, certain displays take priority and must remain running at all times, whereas others are helpful but not as essential. For example, restaurants will likely say that keeping a menu visible is more important than having a promotional item visible.

With Backup Play, stores no longer have to worry about losing their most important display while less important signs continue to run. The Backup Play feature automatically moves the primary content to the secondary display should the initial screen become unavailable, ensuring key information continues to run without a hitch.

MagicINFO Server becomes more useful than ever

The MagicINFO Server conveniently connects all Samsung Smart Signage so businesses can control and monitor their displays remotely. Outdoor displays, e-Boards, SYNC, small signage and video walls all can be managed simply using a web browser and IP address, giving operators the ability to use it on the go.

A commitment to signage innovation

With all these improvements to SSSP and MagicINFO, Samsung has once again shown how it is differentiating itself from other companies through its focus on advancing the core software of signage. Together, these two signage systems give retailers and other businesses the unprecedented ability to engage dynamically with consumers, using easy-to-understand but powerful software. Samsung Electronics will continue to improve these solutions, adding more cutting-edge technologies and innovations to enrich the communications between consumers and retailers.

At IFA 2015, Samsung Electronics, will showcase the latest additions to its innovative SMART Signage portfolio for the European markets, demonstrating its ability to deliver impactful, eye-catching displays for any business and retail environment. Samsung’s booth will be located at Booth 101 at City Cube Hall B, Messe Berlin in Berlin, Germany.

“As the retail and business marketplaces become increasingly crowded, high-performing display technologies can offer companies a significant advantage by enhancing their ability to efficiently deliver striking content,” said Seok-gi Kim, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “At IFA 2015, we are excited to demonstrate how our advanced SMART Signage display technologies create new opportunities for businesses, enabling them to transform content delivery and meet the changing engagement demands of their most critical audiences.”

Samsung’s display technologies enhance the customer and employee experience through clearer picture quality and visible and impactful message presentation, generating new opportunities for revenue and productivity. With a flexible lineup, including indoor and outdoor LED signage, ergonomic business monitors, and versatile television-and-signage-hybrid displays, among other solutions, Samsung will give IFA attendees a look at the business and retail landscapes of the future.

The Store of the Future

IFA 2015 attendees could get a glimpse of the retail store of the future, enhanced by interactive and informative display technologies, through a unique Samsung Electronics booth experience. Samsung’s line of retail-oriented displays provides shoppers with a more convenient, informed and customized shopping experience. These innovations range from technologies that sense customer movements and shopping interests and deliver targeted advertising content as they move across the store floor to virtual fitting rooms, mirror displays and small signage that pair customers’ exploration of clothing options with expanded visibility and an interactive catalogue of complementary accessories and on-sale items.

Most notably, Samsung will unveil its OLED Transparent display for the first time. With a thin, self-lighting panel, Samsung’s OLED display provides a dynamic interior design solution for retailers by giving shoppers near-perfect viewing angles from any perspective. The display’s superior brightness (150 cd/m2), high transmittance (45 percent) and high-quality imagery (CDI 98 percent) also help to capture customer attention, enhancing the delivery of promotional and informational content.

Captivating LED Signage

To meet the growing demand from corporate, retail, sports and entertainment, and transportation users, Samsung’s expanded LED Signage technologies – enhanced by the company’s early 2015 acquisition of LED manufacturer YESCO Electronics – deliver superior picture quality, extended durability and reliable technical support.

Available in Europe starting in September 2015, Samsung’s indoor LED Signage displays feature 1.5mm and 2.5mm fine pixel pitch (distance between pixels) configurations and top-tier diodes to provide deeper contrast and life-like picture quality.

The LED displays undergo rigorous factory and field calibration to ensure continuity and presentation accuracy even in extreme heat or weather conditions. Additionally, Samsung’s LED Signage displays are available in rectangular and curved layouts, enabling businesses to design and easily install displays that suit their brand and unique operational needs.

All-in-One Promotional and Entertainment Displays

By combining the benefits of digital signage with the picture quality and captivation of live television, Samsung’s SMART Signage TV (SSTV) RHE Series expands content possibilities for small- and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) and small office/home office (SOHO) owners. Available in 48- and 55-inch models, the all-in-one SSTV RHE enables businesses to instantly create and deploy informative and entertaining custom content, including text, images, videos, promotional banners and real-time broadcasts.

The SSTV RHE includes Samsung’s MagicInfo Express Content Creator 2 content management software. With the software, businesses can design, schedule and update custom promotions with less hassle and expense than required when updating static and traditional print materials.

Ergonomic, Productivity-Enhancing Business Monitors

Samsung’s line of business-oriented SMART Signage monitors enhance workplace efficiency by delivering improved convenience and comfort. These monitors are an all-in-one, versatile alternative to traditional business displays that often are complex and expensive to maintain:

SE790C and SE650C Curved Monitors – Designed to match the natural curve of the human eye, Samsung’s curved business monitors minimize the fatigue-driving distortion and reflection common in flat screen alternatives. Equipped with a height-adjustable stand (HAS) and wide viewing angles configurable to specific user needs, these displays also enable workers to view monitors comfortably for longer periods, extending productivity.

SE370 Wireless Charging Monitor – Set to be available to European customers in September 2015, Samsung’s recently unveiled SE370 monitor (24- and 27-inch models) is the world’s first to offer integrated wireless charging for all Qi-supported mobile devices. The SE370 monitor condenses multiple charging ports into a single embedded circular wireless charging area, eliminating the workspace clutter common as users work between multiple cables and ports.
