Our friends over at Samsung Village wrote an article about the culture over at Samsung Electronics Canada. Here we share it with you:

Working for a global company is like becoming part of a big family, but with people of different nationalities speaking different languages and diverse backgrounds. You have to get along and work with various groups of people, each with distinct expertise and focus, on many different projects and objectives.

Then how can we build a coordinated team focused on a single goal, despite this diversity and sometimes the complex nature of all the different businesses employees are engaged in?

The great teamwork and the culture of creativity do more than just help our business. Managers and employees in Canada are introducing a new, inspiring talent development program which effectively combines business strategy training with an opportunity to give back to the community they live in.

In the program – which is one of the project management courses Samsung Electronics Canada runs withSchulich School of Business, York University – participants are asked to manage a charity project with their newly acquired project management skills. Starting with a budget of $700 per team, trainees plan and hold charity events to raise money for United Way Peel Region, a corporate charity Samsung sponsors.

Earlier in July, a group of 15 employees had the course’s first workshop. “This program gives our employees the opportunity to practice the skills they’ve learned in class and contribute to one of our corporate initiatives,” says Michelle Manglal-Lan, a Samsung Electronics Canada HR manager. “This is just the beginning and we’ll look for more opportunities like this.”

Now we want to invite anyone with innovative, dynamic minds and passion to become a future leader to join our team.

“Are innovation, camaraderie, and the pursuit of excellence part of your innate drive? Then you’ve got what it takes to succeed at Samsung,” Michelle says.
