As we live through constant advancements in AI, we all have a strong sense of how much potential the technology has to improve our lives, but yet we might not be fully sure about how to start bringing these benefits into our day-to-day.

Providing practical solutions to everyday pain points, Samsung is integrating AI into its home appliances to enable much more flexible and convenient experiences.

In what aspects and how? Transforming the traditional laundry process is one such example. When cleaning your clothes gets tricky, Samsung has you covered — whether it’s through a super-smart drum washing machine that leverages AI to intuitively improve your laundry experience, or a top load washing machine that can effectively clean a complex load of laundry with an AI-enhanced cycle.

Bespoke AI Washer: Even the AI Cycle Has Been Upgraded

It can be challenging and inconvenient to manually pick suitable washing cycles and determine the right amount of detergent to use for each load of laundry; especially if you have a large household that requires you to do multiple rounds of washing throughout the week. The new front load Bespoke AI Washer has been designed to reduce that hassle.

Samsung has developed and applied AI-enhanced cycles to its Bespoke AI Laundry series, effectively simplifying the laundry process for users. Now, it is introducing the new AI Wash+ – which has been further upgraded with more learning data – to the new front load Bespoke AI Washer.

When the AI Wash+ cycle is selected, the washing machine will adjust the amount of detergent and bubbles needed, washing time, water temperature and spin speed by detecting the weight, turbidity, and the type of fabric[1].  In addition to the existing three types of laundry (delicate, normal, towel), the cycle has since been upgraded to now detect outdoor and denim fabric. For example, waterproofing is crucial for outdoor clothing, so when such pieces are identified, the cycle becomes gentler to reduce friction, thereby maintaining the water repellency of the fabric. Similarly, when denim material is detected, the wash temperature and motor speed are lowered to avoid color fading.

Additionally, AI Wash+ continuously measures the level of turbidity during the washing process so that it can add more detergent or adjust the washing time when necessary, ensuring that the cleaning performance is optimal.

To make your life even easier, you can intuitively access AI Wash+ and every other cycle option through AI Home[2], the 7-inch LCD screen on the front of the washing machine.

Bespoke AI Washer: Even the AI Cycle Has Been Upgraded

Top load washers are sometimes considered the classic form factor or more traditional option when compared to front type washers. Now, Samsung is challenging this notion by integrating AI features to upgrade laundry experiences for those who prefer top-load designs.

The Bespoke AI Top Load Washer is Samsung’s first AI-enhanced top load washing machine for the global market. It comes with three convenient AI features: AI Wash,[3] AI Energy Mode,[4] and AI VRT+.[5]

With its built-in sensor, the Bespoke AI Top Load Washer can adjust wash settings based on each load using AI Wash cycle, and also reduce energy usage[6] if the user activates AI Energy Mode in SmartThings Energy.

That’s not all. Another unique feature that utilizes AI, is called AI VRT+. VRT stands for Vibration Reduction Technology, and this reduces the excessive vibration of the washer frame to reduce noise.

Every object has what’s called a “natural frequency.” This refers to the tendency of it to naturally vibrate at a specific frequency. When an external force with the same frequency as the natural one is continuously applied, the object can vibrate intensely, in what is referred to as “resonance.”

For washing machines, rotation occurs during the spin cycle, and if the frequency of the vibrations generated by this rotation matches the natural frequency of the washing machine frame, it can cause resonance, resulting in significant vibrations and noise.

One might think that simply designing a spin cycle to avoid the natural frequency of the washing machine frame would solve the problem. However, the challenge is that the natural frequency of the washing machine frame can change depending on the conditions of the floor it rests on.

To address this, AI VRT+ detects the floor conditions[7] at the beginning of the spin cycle, classifies it using an AI algorithm, and adjusts the spin speed to avoid the expected natural frequency for those conditions. As a result, resonance can be prevented and this reduces frame vibrations so that you can do your laundry quietly.

Bespoke AI Laundry Combo: Wash and Dry Intelligently in a Single Unit

The front load Bespoke AI Washer with AI Wash+ and the Bespoke AI Top Load Washer are both excellent options, but for consumers who want to complete both washing and drying in one go and leverage smart features, there’s the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo.

Launched in Southeast Asia & Oceania in October last year, the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo combines a washer and dryer into one, eliminating the inconvenience of transferring laundry after washing. In the Korean market, where it was first introduced, it surpassed 100,000 cumulative sales within a year of launch and has been recognized for its convenience, receiving a total of 21 awards in regions around the globe[8].

The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo is the first product in which Samsung incorporated AI Home. The wide display delivers useful information like cycle details, remaining amount of detergent, and energy consumption. The combo also uses machine learning to remember user habits and can recommend cycles based on periodic and seasonal needs[9]. When the cycle is finished, it provides an energy and water consumption report that can be viewed on the 7-inch LCD display or the SmartThings App[10].

There is also a unique advantage that can only be found on the combo: the AI Wash & Dry cycle[11].  This starts with sensing the weight of the laundry, and dispenses the right amount of water and detergent. It also detects the fabric type and monitors the level of soiling during the cycle[12], adjusting wash time and detergent use accordingly.

After the wash cycle is complete, there’s no need to start a drying cycle, because that happens automatically. Plus, the AI Wash & Dry cycle optimizes the drying process based on the previously detected weight and fabric type, ensuring excellent cleaning and drying results. With AI Wash & Dry, users get a thorough, efficient and personalized laundry experience.

So, when you wonder how AI can make daily life easier — the answer is simple. If you don’t want to waste time on menial tasks like trying to choose the proper cycle each time you wash clothes, let your Bespoke AI Laundry Washer do it for you.

[1] Based on an advanced AI-created algorithm. It may not detect certain fabrics or accurately identify them when a load includes a mixture of different fabric types. To prevent wear, wash like fabrics together.
[2] AI Home refers to the 7’’ or 9’’ LCD screen on the product. Does not mean all services available on the AI Home are AI or generate information or outcome using AI. Certain functions accessible through the AI Home utilize AI-based algorithms, which can be updated periodically to improve accuracy. AI-based algorithms may generate incomplete or incorrect information. Users need a Samsung account to access AI Home, our network-based service that includes apps and our other smart features available through your device.
