Kuala Lumpur, 11 October 2021 – Samsung Malaysia Electronics today announced the winners of its #FurTheWinMY challenge, showcasing an incredible line-up of pet homes and playgrounds made from upcycled card boxes. The eco-friendly challenge that ran from August to September 2021 is part of Samsung’s effort to promote environmental sustainability with creative solutions including transforming product packaging into various upcycled furnitures. In total, 20 Most Creative winners were selected from over 200 submissions and three outstanding ones were picked as the most creative submissions.

Taking the top three winners spots are Jessmine (@che6888) in 1st place with an aesthetically designed and functional sculpture playhouse, Pamela Tan (@pohsin_studio) in 2nd with a cat-scape built using repurposed card box and grout, and Siti Hawa Baharum (@sitihawabaharum) coming in 3rd with a traditional Malay house inspired rabbit playground. Each top winners receive a Samsung ‘The Frame’ or ‘The Sero’ lifestyle TV, and others will receive a Samsung HW-T400 2.0ch Soundbar worth RM499.

The #FurTheWinMY challenge is one of the company’s initiatives to initiate the conversation on creating a sustainable future and demonstrating how this can be achieved together. Edward Han, President of Samsung Malaysia Electronics said, “Samsung understands the importance of not just designing innovative products and services with the environment in mind, but also of drawing awareness among users and partners as we work together to make for a healthy and sustainable planet. #FurTheWinMY is the perfect platform to demonstrate this potential and we are delighted to see the amazing responses from Malaysians who are also onboard with us to march into this journey of sustainable living.”

As part of the effort to protect the environment and our future, Samsung strives to incorporate environmental sustainability into everything it does. In addition to Samsung products being thoughtfully designed to minimize the impact on the environment during their entire lifecycle – from planning and manufacturing to consumption and recycling, the company in 2020 began introducing its revolutionary Eco Packaging that allows users to craft helpful pieces of furniture and other decors with Samsung’s product packaging once they’ve finished unboxing.

While the #FurTheWinMY challenge is set on pet home and playground theme and allow users to use any cardboxes to flaunt their creativity, Samsung’s own corrugated Eco Packaging that comes with their lifestyle TV models ‘The Frame,’ ‘The Serif’ and ‘The Sero’, are specifically designed with the ‘dot pattern’ to guide users on upcycling the usually discarded boxes into a small table, shelves and stationary holder.

Extending the eco-concious effort, Samsung’s latest rechargable TV remotes, the Solar Cell Remote Control is not only made of recycled plastic but can also be powered by both indoor and outdoor light, or just regular USB if the former two are insufficient. This is estimated to help prevent nearly 99 million AA batteries[1] becoming waste over the next seven years.
