KUALA LUMPUR, 7 October 2022 – Samsung Malaysia Electronics and Universiti Malaya today announced the 10 semi-finalists teams for the Solve for Tomorrow (SFT) 2022 competition. The competition, which is in its third year, aims to solve local issues by asking students across Malaysia to come up with a solution to a problem that affects their community using Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

This year saw a record number of 67 registrations from 36 schools located in Johor, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Perlis, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor and Terengganu that focused on one of the competitions’ three themes: Education & Learning, Sustainability & Environment, and Health & Well-being. After careful deliberations of all the submissions, judges from Universiti Malaya shortlisted the top 10 teams for Phase 2 of the competition.

“We are delighted to witness another pool of young Malaysians showcasing their passion to make a difference in the future of the country. This year, the submissions have demonstrated ideas that are capable of bringing about positive social change using STEM. We are honoured to empower future generations to achieve their full potential,” said Dato’ Roh Jae Yeol, Director of Corporate Affairs, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

Ir. Dr Mas Sahidayana Mohktar, Director of Universiti Malaya STEM Centre and judge for the Solve for Tomorrow 2022 competition said, “This year, the caliber of submissions has been impressive. Malaysian students are keenly aware of the issues that are affecting their community and have demonstrated credible ideas to address them. There is certainly so much to look forward to once they start working on their prototype.”
