Samsung Electro-Mechanics (SEM) Global CEO Chang Duckhyun paid a courtesy visit recently to the newly appointed Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Alfredo Pascual. Joined by other Samsung local and regional executives, Chang shared SEM Philippines (SEMPHIL) business portfolio and performance, innovative product development and technology, as well as its contribution to the economic growth in the Philippines.

Chang also affirmed SEM’s interest in partnering with the Philippines particularly in developing the workforce needed for high-technology operation expansion which is in line with the objectives of DTI on Human Capital Development. Speaking from experience, SEMPHIL has grown its local workforce to about 10,000 employees since the establishment of its local operations 25 years ago.

For his part, DTI Secretary Pascual thanked Chang for Samsung’s contribution to the Philippines for its continuous business operations and job provisions. The Trade Secretary also discussed DTI’s program that supports the existing and new investors and expressed the department’s commitment to assist SEMPHIL in their expansion plans.

Chang also asked for DTI’s support for Korea’s bid to host the 2030 Busan World Expo where Samsung acts as a member of the public-private 2030 Busan World Expo bidding committee.
