Knox Matrix Unlocks Ultimate Transparency

Knox Matrix is Samsung’s vision for the future, enhancing protection through multi-layered, intelligent threat monitoring between connected Samsung devices. One UI 7 sets the foundation for the next frontier of security.

• Knox Matrix monitors devices through Trust Chain, a secure private blockchain — and the new Knox Matrix dashboard introduces an easier way to maintain transparent security across a connected device ecosystem. With One UI 7, it’s more intuitive than ever to check the security status of multiple Samsung smart devices, including Galaxy mobile devices, TVs and home appliances, at a glance. When all connected devices are up to date and no risks are detected, they will show as ‘green,’ or secure. Users can also see if a device is at risk, and the dashboard will prompt an actionable recommendation to mitigate the threat.
• A new recovery method for Enhanced Data Protection adds ease and convenience to the process of retrieving data stored on Samsung Cloud. Enhanced Data Protection keeps connected devices synchronised and secure, also ensuring that if access to a trusted device is lost, users have a backup plan to prevent the loss of their data. With One UI 7, users can now transfer recovered, private data to a new device by verifying the lock screen factor – whether pin, pattern or password – of their previous device.
• As part of Knox Matrix’s Credential Sync, Samsung has developed new ways to manage and secure identities and credentials for today’s hyperconnected world in the form of passkeys^[2]. With One UI 7, users can now create and use passkeys to log into their Samsung Account. As digital authentication credentials, passkeys enable a faster, easier way to securely log in to apps, devices and websites — so users can safely sign into their TVs, AI Family Hub refrigerator and more, simply by using the fingerprint sensor on their smartphones.

Maximum Restrictions Boost User Control

Maximum Restrictions establishes a powerful line of defence against today’s cyber threats. One UI 7 further enhances user choice with new features designed to protect those who may need additional safeguards. Maximum Restrictions has been updated with added controls for network connections so users can enjoy the peace of mind that comes from boosted protection without losing access to key device functionalities. Thanks to the added controls, users have the choice to block 2G service and prevent data from being intercepted when connected to potentially unsafe networks. Users can also prevent unintended automatic reconnection to certain Wi-Fi networks^[3] that may be less secure, ensuring data remains private while still having the option to connect manually if desired.

This update enhances Maximum Restrictions’ existing suite of protections for Samsung Messages and Samsung Gallery, which allows users to remove location data in shared photos, prevent automatic attachment downloads, and block hyperlinks, previews and shared albums.

More Security Settings Bring Added Device Protection

One UI 7 introduces even more ways users can adjust security settings to best suit the ways in which they use their device. Users can choose to block USB connections to prevent any other access through the USB port while the device is locked, except for battery charging.

To protect against malicious apps that come from sideloading, One UI 7’s new Safe Install system works alongside Auto Blocker to send a warning when a user attempts to download from an unauthorised source, alerting them of security risks and preventing unintentional sideloading on Galaxy devices worldwide^[4].

Theft Protection Enhances Data Privacy

One UI 7 introduces new features available only on Galaxy devices to the Android suite of theft protection solutions, enhancing the safeguards in place to ensure personal data remains secure even when devices are lost or stolen. In addition to Theft Detection Lock,^[5] Offline Device Lock and Remote Lock, Galaxy users can now leverage additional security measures in Identity Check, an opt-in feature designed for when a device’s PIN becomes compromised. If suspicious activity is detected, users can rest assured that these Galaxy-exclusive protections will kick in.

• When in an unfamiliar location, biometric authentication will be required to make any changes to important security settings that could put personal information at risk.
• As an added safeguard, a one-hour security delay will prevent unauthorised users from making any immediate changes to the device.

One UI 7 is the next step in Samsung’s commitment to privacy on AI, introducing advanced security features to ensure complete protection in the era of AI. The official One UI 7 release will commence with upcoming Galaxy S Series devices, featuring additional AI capabilities including enhanced, hardware-dependent on-device AI functions, starting from the first quarter of 2025. In line with Samsung’s commitment to extend its OS upgrade policy, the update will gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices.

The One UI 7 beta programme will be first available for Galaxy S24 Series devices in Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the UK, and the US, from December 5^[6]. Galaxy S24 Series users can apply to join the beta program via Samsung Members.

Samsung Kiosks integrated into KFC Philippines’ restaurants

Another example is KFC Philippines, a quick service restaurant serving its secret recipe fried chicken at close to 400 stores nationwide. In 2017, its digital transformation journey first started with the integration of more than 1,000 Samsung large-format displays pre-installed with the MagicINFO platform, for digital menu boards across all stores. This helped KFC improve customer experiences by catering more visually appealing images, whilst ensuring their operations teams could continually update their menu board and promotions effectively and efficiently.

In 2022, KFC accelerated its digital transformation journey by integrating Samsung KM24A kiosks in restaurants and OM55B outdoor displays in drive-thru stores. By the end of 2024, 800 kiosks and over 150 OMB55B outdoor displays will also be deployed to minimise queues and increase order accuracy, and further elevate customer experiences.

The successful deployment story of KFC Philippines is a reminder of the risk-taking and innovation that are needed in today’s dynamic and competitive marketplace, whether in the F&B, retail, hospitality, or other sectors.

Held in October last year, the Summit was an immersive 2-day program in Seoul, South Korea, attended by enterprise customers and partners across the Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) region. Our phones are constantly in our hands, but have you considered how often they get into the hands of others? Whether it’s entertaining a child, showing something funny to a friend, or sending it in for repair; we hand over our precious devices surprisingly often. Each time we do that, we risk allowing too much access. It’s an invasion of privacy, waiting to happen.

With Pin App and Maintenance Mode, you don’t have to worry about anyone snooping around. You get to decide what people can and can’t see, no matter who’s got their hands on your device. It’s like having a personal bouncer for your phone.

Pin App:

There’s a feeling you get when you hand over your phone to show somebody some pictures. It could be your holiday snaps, or just something funny you saved. But then they accidentally open another app and now they see a photo or message, or anything else you didn’t intend to show them. It’s a horrifying moment, but Pin App can stop that from happening again.

Think of Pin App like a personal bouncer for your apps, stopping people from getting into where they’re not welcome. Instead, it keeps them exactly where they’re supposed to be – in the app you’ve pinned – and nowhere else.

Pin App also acts as a Do Not Disturb sign, preventing awkward pop-up notifications that risk showing sensitive information when all you wanted to do was to share a funny social media post.

Setting up Pin App is quick and easy. Simply go to your Settings, then into Security and Privacy. Next, scroll down and find More Security Settings, and you can toggle the switch for Pin App on or tap on the text to view more settings. For extra security, you can choose ‘Ask for PIN before unpinning’, so whoever has your phone will need a password to get out of the pinned application.

Then, open the app you want to pin. Tap the Recents button (or swipe up and hold if you’re using swipe gestures) then tap the icon above the app. Select the ‘Pin this app’ option, and that’s it.

Maintenance Mode:

Many of us at some point during the lifecycle of our device, will find ourselves sending our phone to a third-party repair service for that cracked screen or that damaged charging port. More often than not, we need to send our device away for a period of time to have the repair done which brings its own risks including the ability of third parties to access private information on our devices.

This is where Samsung’s Maintenance Mode can be used.^[1] It is specifically designed to protect and hide your personal data from being accessed when your device leaves your hands and is sent away for any type of repair.

When you activate Maintenance Mode, you can set up a distinct user profile, ensuring your primary account and data remain private. This mode can be activated either through the device’s Settings, where you tap Device Care before navigating to and tapping Maintenance Mode; or can be activated through the Samsung Members app.

Once Maintenance Mode has been turned on, you can conceal all your personal data including photos, videos, contacts and messages and prevent any unauthorized access. It also ensures that no data is erased by accident from your device, for instance, by a repair service centre.^[2] If you do need to send your device away for those repair activities, you can also ensure that those accessing it will only have access to basic device features that enable them to perform the necessary service diagnosis.

Secure Folder:

Samsung Knox provides layers of security and privacy, not only to protect users but also to give them choice in what they want to secure. For those who want to keep their most personal information separate and safe, there’s Secure Folder.

It’s a container that locks away your data so it cannot be accessed through your phone’s regular storage. It can hold your most private data such as calendar schedules and contact information, as well as notes, photos, videos, files and even apps. You can even encrypt the Secure Folder to keep your apps and data even more locked down until the next time you open the folder.

You can find Secure Folder in your apps. The first time you open it, you’ll have to set your lock type to either a PIN, pattern, or password. In addition to these, you can also add fingerprint access – and then you’re good to go. Anything you create within the Secure Folder will be automatically stored here, but you can also move data here any time.

For example, if you want to keep a copy of your driver’s license, you can take a photo of it using the Camera app within Secure Folder, or you can pick a photo in your Gallery, tap the options menu (the three dots), and then select ‘Move to Secure Folder’.

There are a lot of things you can’t control, but when it comes to your privacy, Samsung wants to give you as much control as possible. With Pin App, Maintenance Mode and Secure Folder, you’ve got that extra reassurance against prying eyes.

Samsung Singapore: Trusted Partner for the Ministry of Home Affairs and a Key Player in the Country’s Homeland Security Ecosystem

Samsung was invited by HTX (Home Team Science & Technology Agency) to join the Singapore Pavilion for the recent Milipol Asia-Pacific and TechX Summit 2024. This event, Asia Pacific’s largest in Homeland Security and Safety, is co-supported by Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and France’s Ministry of the Interior.

MHA and its counterpart in France share a critical mission: safeguarding the well-being of their citizens. Both oversee crucial public sector entities like police, immigration, prisons, and civil defense agencies, encompassing disaster relief, firefighting, and emergency services. Samsung plays a vital role as a trusted partner for MHA, equipping these first responders with the latest innovations and bespoke equipment to enhance their efficiency and ensure citizen safety.

A Glimpse into the Future of Security

At Milipol, Samsung highlighted a range of cutting-edge solutions designed to empower defence forces and strengthen national security. These include off-grid communications, tactical radios, and intelligent drones—all designed to empower frontline defence teams. Our tactical field operations ecosystem holistically showcased Samsung’s collaboration with a wide array of global partners – such as Airbus, GoX Labs, goTenna, Plugnix Connect, Privoro, and others – and the innovations co-created with them. Our display highlighted the vast possibilities Samsung offered as a defense partner and allowed visitors to envision different deployment setups to meet unique national security needs.

The booth attracted a range of high-profile visitors, including Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development and Aubeck Kam Tse Tsuen, Permanent Secretary (Home Affairs Development) at the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Chairman of HTX, along with representatives from law enforcement and defence agencies across the region.

We also showcased our Samsung Knox Suite, which allows government agencies to monitor, manage, and optimise their device fleet. We are further exploring AI’s potential to enhance the Knox Asset Intelligence dashboard by enabling custom visualisations through natural language prompts.

Visitors witnessed firsthand how Samsung is helping organisations to secure, manage, and deploy mission-critical devices while safeguarding sensitive information from a centralised location.

On showcase: COMMAND, a Unified Command, Control, and Communications platform for seamless incident and emergency management, allows commanders to set up workflows and assign tasks in real-time.	Samsung also works closely with partners to deliver advanced endpoint security solutions that address our customers’ most pressing cybersecurity concerns.

Strategic Alliance to Advance Public and Online Safety in Singapore

Samsung Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with HTX, a group under the Ministry of Home Affairs Singapore to develop science and technology capabilities for the Home Team which includes the local police, civil defence, prisons and immigration & checkpoint operations.

Samsung Singapore President Dennis Jang and Chief Executive of HTX Chan Tsan formalising our partnership and solidifying our commitment to advance public and online safety.

The partnership will focus on three critical fronts – (1) Supporting Frontline Operations, (2) Developing Next-Generation Mobile and Wearable Devices and (3) Enhance Cyber Vigilance. It aims to pave the way for collaborative, co-development initiatives that address the evolving technological needs of the various Home Team agencies.

Also on showcase was Samsung Singapore’s smart wearable deployment with SCDF, one of the agencies under Home Team, where Galaxy smartwatches have been deployed to monitor and track firefighters’ safety and health when they are in operation.

The MOU is significant to both Samsung and HTX as it signifies both parties’ commitment to further advancing defence and security infrastructure through innovative use of technology. The announcement also resonated strongly across the region, as more than 170 stories were tracked in regional, defence and security trade media and technology titles.
