About SpaceSelfie

In 2014, the world’s most famous selfie taken by Ellen DeGeneres at the Oscars was taken on a Samsung Galaxy Note3. Five years later, Samsung has taken it one step further with their first SpaceSelfie, captured on Delevingne’s Galaxy S10.

SpaceSelfie gives consumers the chance to join Cara by uploading a photo to Samsung’s ‘Mission Control’ website www.samsung.com/spaceselfie [1]

Customers who want to take their selfie to the next level can head to our Oxford Street Samsung Experience Store to snap a star-filled zodiac selfie. Whether you’re Aries, Pisces, or any other birth sign in between, you can add the star constellation of your sign to the backdrop of your selfie.

Winning images will then be displayed on the S10 5G’s 6.7-inch screen and captured using a unique view of planet earth as the backdrop. These photos will be sent back down to earth for its owner to share on social media.

“Tonight, we made history by unveiling Samsung’s first SpaceSelfie. Our relentless pioneering spirit continues to show that amazing things happen on a Samsung screens – even from the 65,000 feet above the earth.” says Benjamin Braun, Chief Marketing Officer, Samsung Europe. “Our ethos is Do What You Can’t and the Samsung SpaceSelfie is just that. We continually break the boundaries of what is possible with innovation and tonight’s SpaceSelfie launch is no different.”

London, UK – 16th October 2019 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd today announced a bold, out-of-this-world mission as it launches the Galaxy S10 5G 65,000 feet above the earth to give consumers the chance to get their face in space.

Through SpaceSelfie, Samsung is demonstrating the pioneering spirit of its brand and setting a new standard for the potential of mobile technology. With over 200 hours at 65,000 feet above the earth, the S10 5G will showcase the strength of Samsung’s innovations and how it continues to design products that make what was previously impossible, possible.

“To celebrate that amazing things happen on Samsung screens we decided to take selfies to a new level and give people a chance to get their face in space,” says Benjamin Braun, Chief Marketing Officer, Samsung Europe. “We are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible and with SpaceSelfie, we will show that amazing things continue to happen using Samsung technology – even from the edge of space.”

How the Samsung SpaceSelfie mission will work

A super-pressure High Altitude Balloon half the size of a basketball court (10.5m x 18m) will ascend from a launch pad in South Dakota in the U.S., carrying a bespoke payload box in which the S10 5G is held, to reach up to 65,000 ft.

The payload has been designed to ensure the best quality photos are captured by factoring in the earth’s curvature and reflective light from the sun, whose solar energy powers both the payload and the S10 5G itself.

Back on earth, eligible consumers are in with a chance to receive a photo of their face in space by taking a selfie using their smartphone and uploading it to the Mission Control website.[1]

Two bespoke apps were developed to facilitate SpaceSelfie. The first is a ground control app created to send and receive selfies between Mission Control and the payload.

The second is an app specifically designed for the S10 5G, which communicates with the still camera on the rig, commanding it to take the photo of a selfie displayed on the device’s screen. The S10 app then tells the ground app to send the image back to earth and from there it is delivered direct to the consumer.

Preparing the S10 5G for flight

With the S10 5G, Samsung has created a phone so durable it can withstand the hostile conditions and pressure found at 65,000 feet above the earth, without insulation or casing.

The S10 5G was subjected to rigorous pre-launch testing and was able to withstand temperatures of up to -65°C. The S10 5G’s 6.7 inch Dynamic AMOLED display also proved its ability to perform in harsh environments, successfully avoiding any condensation or cracking at altitudes twice that of Mount Everest.

From power sharing capabilities to AI-powered performance enhancement and Intelligent Wi-Fi, the S10 5G is one of Samsung’s most intelligent, hard-working and durable devices, from the inside out.

To date, only space travellers have ever had the opportunity to take a selfie in space. Now, with Samsung, consumers will have the chance to see themselves in space, right from the palm of their hands.

London, UK – 16th October 2019 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd announced today a bold, out-of-this world mission as it launches the Galaxy S10 5G into the stratosphere to give consumers the chance to get their face in space. They will be in good company, as actress, model and philanthropist Cara Delevingne has been announced as the face of Samsung’s ‘SpaceSelfie’ mission.

Cara announced the campaign on her Instagram in a behind-the-scenes reveal of her mission, with the help of an unexpected visitor – Samsung’s SpaceSelfie astronaut. The astronaut delivered Cara a Galaxy S10 5G on which to capture Samsung’s first SpaceSelfie, which will be unveiled during a star-studded event at the newly-opened Samsung KX experience space on 23rd October.

Samsung’s latest out-of-this-world technological feat will see a S10 5G lifted 65,000 feet above the earth using a super-pressure helium balloon. Consumers will have the chance to get their very own SpaceSelfie by uploading a photo to Samsung’s ‘Mission Control’ website: www.samsung.com/spaceselfie.[1]

Winning images will be displayed on the S10 5G’s 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen and captured using a unique view of planet earth as the backdrop. This photo will be sent back down to earth for its owner to share on social media.

With SpaceSelfie, Samsung is demonstrating the pioneering spirit of the brand and setting a new standard for the potential of mobile technology. With over 200 hours at 65,000 feet, the S10 5G will showcase the strength of Samsung’s innovation and how it continues to design products that make what was previously thought impossible, possible.

SpaceSelfie pioneer Cara Delevingne

Delevingne is also passionate about breaking boundaries and sharing an honest account of both her professional and personal life with followers. She is the perfect person to be Samsung’s SpaceSelfie pioneer, inspiring others to get involved in this new era of space and social media exploration.

Cara Delevingne said: “I love the idea of space travel and can’t wait to lead Samsung’s SpaceSelfie mission. I’m already planning how I make this my most epic selfie ever and I’m looking forward to seeing how my fans interpret the challenge to get their face in space.”

Back on earth, consumers are in with a chance to receive a photo of their face in space by taking a selfie using their own smartphone and uploading it to the Mission Control website.

Two bespoke apps were developed to facilitate SpaceSelfie. The first is a ground control app, specifically created to send and receive selfies between Mission Control and the payload.

The second is an app designed for the S10 5G that communicates with the still camera on the rig, commanding it to take the photo of a selfie displayed on the S10 5G’s screen. The S10 app then tells the ground app to send the image back to earth and from there it is delivered to the consumer to share across their social media channels.

With a 6.7 inch Dynamic AMOLED display, the S10 5G’s screen has been tested to ensure it will not crack or get condensation at high altitudes.

Back in 2014, Samsung partnered with Ellen DeGeneres at the Oscars to capture one of the most famous selfies ever. In 2019, it is setting a new standard of what is possible for mobile technology by giving the selfie generation access to the ultimate out of this world shot.

LONDON, UK –1st October, 2019 –The Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ are packed with powerful tools designed to help users unleash their creativity and be more

LONDON, UK –1st October, 2019 –The Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ are packed with powerful tools designed to help users unleash their creativity and be more productive. Now, with an update set for release beginning in the UK from 26th September, Samsung Electronics is introducing many of those same bar-raising innovations – including features like AR Doodle, a built-in video editor and Link to Windows integration – to the Galaxy S10e, S10, S10+ and S10 5G.

Once Galaxy S10 users download the update, they’ll notice that their smartphone’s pro-grade camera has become even more powerful. The update expands the camera’s Night Mode to include support for the front-facing camera as well – offering users more freedom to snap vivid shots after dark. It also introduces enhanced Super steady video stabilization, as well as support for dynamic Galaxy Note10 functions like AR Doodle and Live focus video recording. The former lets users enhance their videos with fun, augmented-reality drawings and messages, while the latter lets them apply bokeh effects (including blur, big circle, color point and glitch) to videos recorded with the front or rear camera.

Once Galaxy S10 users capture a memorable clip, the camera’s new, Gallery app-accessible video editor offers all the tools they’ll need to turn it into a shareworthy video. This versatile feature makes it easy to edit videos like a pro, and features simple tools for trimming clips, stitching them together, adjusting playback speed and more. You can even use the function to add subtitles and background music to clips to make your content more unique.

The update also incorporates support for Samsung DeX for PC. Once users download the app from SamsungDeX.com, they’ll be able to launch Samsung DeX on their PC or Mac simply by connecting their Galaxy S10 to their computer via USB cable. Link to Windows support has also been added, which means that Galaxy S10 users will be able to wirelessly connect their phone to their Windows 10 PC and easily view its contents, send and receive messages, and sync recent photos directly from their computer.

Apps that Galaxy S10 users rely on every day, including Samsung Pass and Messages, have also been made more versatile and convenient. Now, Samsung Pass’s setup has been simplified, making it easier for Galaxy S10 users to utilize their device’s advanced biometric technologies to log in to apps and websites quickly and securely. In the Messages app, new icons for adding photos and videos have been positioned to the left of the text window to offer users easy access to the files they need.

London – 21st March 2019: O2 today announces that it will stock the latest flagship smartphone from Samsung, the Galaxy S10 5G, when it launches

London – 21st March 2019: O2 today announces that it will stock the latest flagship smartphone from Samsung, the Galaxy S10 5G, when it launches later this year.

5G on the Galaxy S10 5G will introduce hyper-fast streaming and download speeds, powerful mobile hot-spotting, 4K video calling and an elevated mobile gaming experience.

To take full advantage of 5G connectivity, Galaxy S10 5G features the largest-ever display on a Galaxy S series device, a 6.7-inch Infinity-O Display; 3D Depth Camera to power Live focus video and Quick Measure; and a 4,500mAh battery with Super-Fast Charging at 25W.

O2 will begin rolling out its 5G network in 2019 with customers in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London being the first to benefit.

Nina Bibby, CMO at O2 commented, “O2’s 5G network will arrive in the four corners of the UK in 2019 and we want the next-generation of mobile services to launch with the very latest devices in the market. 5G promises fasters speeds and improved network experience that will open up a whole new world of possibilities for our customers. That’s why we’re thrilled to be bringing the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G to O2 customers later this year.”

“For over a decade, Samsung has spearheaded major advances in global connectivity, leveraging a deep heritage in innovation and unrivalled expertise in hardware and services.” said Conor Pierce, Corporate Vice President for Samsung UK and Ireland.

“Samsung Galaxy S10 5G will give people the power to experience new possibilities with their phones as 5G represents a quantum leap forward in speed and connectivity that will create immense possibilities for everyone. Things like low latency, the ability to make real-time 4K video calls and AR and VR experiences which come to life on the 6.7-inch Infinity-O display will soon become possible. We believe 5G has the potential to change the way we live our lives and we’re proud to be bringing this to more people with O2,” he added.

O2 will also become the only UK network operator to offer the Samsung Galaxy S10 devices – including the S10, S10+ and S10e – in the brand new colour Prism Blue1. Customers can pre-order the S10 range in Prism Blue from the 28th March, before it goes on sale in stores and online from the 4th April. The impressive 512GB memory version of the S10 in Prism Blue will also be available to purchase at launch.

With O2’s customisable plans, customers can choose how much they want to pay upfront, the length of their device plan, selecting anywhere between three and 36 months (in one-month increments), as well as having the option to flex their data allowance up or down every month to suit their needs.2

Customers on O2 Refresh who want to upgrade early from their handset need only pay off the remaining balance of their Device Plan so they don’t have to wait to get the latest phone. Plus, customers who want to keep their phone after their Device Plan finishes will only pay for their monthly airtime tariff from that point on, and will therefore never pay for a device they already own. Terms and conditions apply, visit o2.co.uk/termsandconditions for full details.

For the latest updates, customers can register interest on: https://www.o2.co.uk/getupdates.

For more information on the latest offers, visit: https://www.o2.co.uk/offers-and-discounts.

Notes to Editors

1 The only other place the Samsung Galaxy S10 devices in the colour Prism Blue can be bought is the Samsung Online Shop and Samsung Experience Stores.

2O2 Refresh custom plans: Direct purchases. Pay the cash price for your device or spread the cost over 3 to 36 months (excludes dongles). The device cost will be the same whatever you choose. There may be an upfront cost. You need a monthly rolling Airtime Plan as long as you have a Device Plan. Pay off your Device Plan at any time and you can choose to keep your Airtime Plan, upgrade, or leave. If your Airtime Plan ends for any reason you will need to pay your Device Plan in full.

Change your airtime tariff after 30 days and then once every billing month during your minimum contract period, choosing from a selected family of tariffs. Some tariff extras are only available on the starting tariff, are not transferable, and may be lost if you change to an ineligible tariff. Devices are subject to availability. Terms apply, see o2.co.uk/terms.
