Samsung Electronics Delivers Customized Galaxy Tablets with KNOX Security for Veterans and Military Families for Use at Fisher House Foundation Houses Nationwide
7/5/2016
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tuesday, July 5, 2016: Today, Samsung announced the shipments of specialized Galaxy Tab A 8.0 Tablets to Fisher House Foundation houses for military and veteran families who are temporarily staying in these residences while receiving medical treatment at hospitals across the United States. In July, Samsung will deliver nearly 300 Galaxy Tablets across the Fisher House network, enabling convalescing Service members, veterans and their families to not only leverage Samsung’s latest technology for personal and professional needs, but most importantly, to more effectively communicate with loved ones in a timely fashion while recovering from illness or injury.
“We are proud to partner with Fisher House Foundation and demonstrate our gratitude to American service members, veterans, and their families for their sacrifice in defending Korean democracy, as well as the freedom and way of life enjoyed by our American employees, partners and customers,” said Won-Kyong Kim, Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics. “Staying connected with family and friends, and managing day to day tasks is an important part of life and healing for these families, and with these tablets, we are helping make the Fisher Houses a true Home.”
This in-kind donation and corresponding delivery is part of Samsung’s partnership launched last fall with Fisher House Foundation, a national network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving medical treatment at a specialized healthcare facility. In addition to providing Galaxy A 8.0 Tablets, Samsung completed the donation and installation earlier this year to Fisher Houses of state-of-the-art washer and dryers, kitchen appliances, television sets, and Blu-ray players to enhance the comfort of each house for these families who have sacrificed so much for our nation.
“Samsung continues to be a true friend of Fisher House Foundation and especially to our military and our veterans,” said Ken Fisher, Chairman and CEO of Fisher House Foundation. “Their sacrifice will never be ignored. On behalf of the Foundation and those we serve, we thank you Samsung for your generosity.”
To support the mission of Fisher House Foundation to foster a ‘home away from home’ environment for those undergoing stressful circumstances, all donated tablets are secured by Samsung’s KNOX security and equipped with a curated suite of apps tailored to the unique needs of these families, in the categories of family, health, employment, financial, employment, and a general category for family-friendly needs. Samsung also collaborated with the Veterans Health Administration’s Office of Connected Care to identify key VA-developed apps designed with military members and veterans in mind, and we have bookmarked several of these for your convenience.
The Samsung U.S. Public Affairs team in Washington, DC is overseeing the deliveries at large, and other local employees will help demonstrate the app and device functions to FHF managers.

Samsung Electronics is making the support of veterans and military family initiatives a major part of its social responsibility and citizenship efforts in the United States. Several of its efforts – such as Samsung’s 20 year, $5 million partnership American Legion which has provided more than 1,900 college scholarships to descendants of American Korean War Veterans, and its $1 Million donation this past year in support of the Korean War Veterans Memorial Foundation Maintenance Fund – are rooted in the company’s recognition of the importance of the U.S. military role in South Korea’s history.

Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $310 million in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation.
Fisher House Foundation also operates the Hero Miles Program, using donated frequent flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members as well as the Hotels for Heroes program using donated hotel points to allow family members to stay at hotels near medical centers without charge.
